Surgery is one week from tomorrow! I can't get over the fear of the drain! The whole idea of it sticking out where I can see it and the thought of it being painful when in and when being pulled out scares the crap out of me! I know I stay two days in hospital and it will come out day 2.
-
I had three drains and while they were in it wasn't painful. I was just very paranoid they would get hung on something and the little bulbs on the end of them were cumbersome. When they pulled them out, 2 of them didn't hurt, the last one (was so glad it was last) hurt, but it was more of an odd feeling as I guess it was really deep. Hardly any pain after. This was the first time I had drains in any surgery. Having a catheriter in was more bothersome. Hopefully you won't have them in long.

I typically lose 1-3 pounds per week. I lost 11 pounds on my pre-op diet and I've lost 70 pounds since being banded in mid April of this year. I will tell you that the first 50 pounds came off really quickly but the last 20 have taken more time.

My steristrips stayed on for 2 whole weeks and when I went to the doctor the nurse said "I dont know why they tell you not to take these things off before 2 weeks...they harbor so much bacteria!" and they pulled them off and I was healed. I had one nurse tell me to leave them on until they fall off and the other to tell me when they start peeling up at the edges to go ahead and take them off.

I'm 3 weeks out and I have eaten salad and done fine with it. It was nice to be able to eat salad. I had the band before I converted to the sleeve and with the band I could not eat lettuce. So far no problems with it now.

hi all, I am now 6 months post op and have been stuck at the same weight now for about a month, i have had a couple of pounds loss then its gone back on, i am getting a little desperate here now , things have been going so well up to this point, i never had any complications after the surgery, can get plenty of liquids down and hardly any trouble eating, it has been really great, i have lost about 80lbs so far, which i feel so pleased about, i know i was going to hit a stall at some point but next week i am going to the dietician and i feel that she will be really disappointed that i haven't lost much since i last saw her, i don't really know what to do, should i cancel my appoint and hope that i have lost some weight by the time i get another appointment or should i just go and accept this is all i have been able to so far. thanks for listening viv

Day 2 Of Pre-Op And Hungry!
wallflower replied to prinxs's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It gets better. The first 2 days I was weak and had a headache but then those symptoms resolved. I'm not gonna lie and say you won't be hungry at all, but if u keep busy and drink ur shakes its doable! I like the Bariatric fusion chocolate mousse shakes the best. And sugar free jello really helped when I felt starving, because the solidness felt good in my tummy. Sometimes a drink won't cut it. Good luck to you. Don't give up or cheat! I thought I would break down but honestly have not cheated once in 3 weeks. Pretty proud of myself! -
Shoud I or should I not

Lap Band surgery was the best thing I ever did for myself. For once in my life, I put myself ahead of everyone else and went for it! In five months, I've lost 83 lbs. and feel like a new person. Is it easy? No. For anyone that may think that the band is a "quick fix", they are sadly mistaken. Being banded is a life changing experience. Your entire lifestyle must change for the band to be successful. It is only to be used as a tool. The surgery is not that bad. In my opinion, the two week pre-op diet was the worst part of the entire procedure. The pain level from the surgery was the same as when I had my gallbladder removed and ten times easier than the three C-Sections I've had. About two days after surgery, I had an anxiety attack. It was around 6:30 in the morning and my husband had just left for work. The kids were still in the bed. I stood in my kitchen and thought to myself, "What in the he** have I done to myself?!?!". Then, I remembered that the worst thing I did to myself was let myself get to 343 lbs. and completely unhealthy. By having the surgery, I had made an attempt to save my life! -
It shouldn't, seven days post op I was so bored I decided to go back to work, the night before we had a snow storm that dumped over a foot of snow. Well, like I said I wanted to go to work, so I shoveled my car out. Probably not the best idea, but I did it and I was kind of worried. 3 weeks or so later I had a barium swallow (my doc does it within the first month) and everything was fine

Wow, I so needed to read this today. I went n for my 3 mo appointment today(a few weeks late) and my doctor mentioned the same thing about sweets. Recently I have started allowing some sweets to my diet. A few cookies here a little too much fruit there, a bite of cake ect. I feel awful about it. I am so worried about gaining the 40 pounds I have lost but have started to see old patterns again. As I left my doctor visit today I thought about my initial motivation to get the surgery. I wanted to avoid getting diabetes like my mom but I also wanted something else... To be noticed . It sounds awful to say it but it's true. My family has congratulated me on my progress and cheer me on but not much else has changed. Now when I look in the mirror I'm just a less fat , fat person. Pity party for one your table is ready! Anyway , I just wanted to say that I understand your worry and frustration regarding old "bad habits".

Pre Op 2 week liquid diet
orionburn replied to msjessy323's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started my 2 week on Jan 11 and am down at least 12 pounds now. What used to be my comfy jeans (weren't too tight on the waist) are now getting way too big. The stress/fears of the pre-op diet aren't near as bad now after seeing the results. It's got me excited now and am feeling the difference. -
Lack of energy
LindafromFlorida replied to carolync's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At 67 I had lots of energy 2 weeks post sleeve and shopped for hours. I do not know if it was mental or what. I do take a great multivitamin, B-12 shots, have had a knee replacement, and have followed the guidelines of the surgeon. Do you have a Nutritionist you can talk to? You should get lots of advice here. Best of luck! -
Have completed 2 weeks of the shakes, veggies and water. Down 11 and am feeling great. These boards have given me lots of info on what to hand on hand during and after surgery. Not looking forward to having to fly home 2 days after but will follow all the surgeon's advice. I watched the procedure on Youtube so I know what is going to happen. I'm sure everyone else fears (like me) being out under and not coming out of it alive. Lol I have done lots of roasting for getting the veggies in: kale "chips", broccoli and cauliflower chunks that I bake and then dip in salsa. Nummy! I do however, think I've had my fill of squash and zucchini now. Good luck, we can do this!

My surgery was originally scheduled for March 17. I did the 2 week pre-op diet which was miserable. Like everyone, I had my doubts if I was doing the right thing. Then 2 days before I was positive for Covid and the surgery was postponed. Though I wanted to continue on a good path, I was not ablet to and before long I was eating like my old self. Every difficult thing I encountered due to my weight depressed me because I knew I should've been X weeks past the surgery by now. Most of the doubts I had disappeared. I realized how depressed I was it was postponed. Maybe it turned out to be for the best, because as the new date approached, I had almost no doubts. I was ready. The surgery was June 21, it went very well and I'm on the road to recovery. The postponement may have been a blessing in disguise. I don't know anyone that wasn't nervous, it's a part of the process.

Hello again all. I have been extremely frustrated with my weight loss. I had my surgery on Feb 5 2014 so I am a little over 2 months po. The first month from the time the Dr recorded my weight until he seen me 1 month po I dropped 34 lbs. I was ecstatic. When I went in for my 2 month check I only lost 7 lbs taking me down to 226. That was on April 7. Since then I have dropped 8 lbs in the last 2 weeks. I work out at least 5 days a week doing 45 mins on my elliptical and then lifting 10 lb weights on top of it to get my arms in shape hoping some of the skin will stretch back. I eat healthy getting 60 grams of protein daily and plenty of water though sometimes I may be a few grams short on my protein and a little short on fluids. Why am I not losing more weight then I am? It just doesn't make sense to me. My Dr was upset with my at my last visit for not dropping enough weight. I see so many people hitting the 100lb mark before a year and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I plan to start tomorrow walking 4 miles a day like I was before I got the elliptical a couple weeks ago on top of everything else I'm doing. Can someone please help me or guide me so I can increase my weight loss?

Pre-op liquid diet starts tomorrow and I am scared....
laurierrt posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Tomorrow begins my 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Not gonna lie.... I am scared. Not of surgery, but of how well I will tolerate this next phase. I'm scared I will fail. I'd appreciate any insight on what to expect and how to cope with challenges from those who have been there already. Thank you in advance! -
Meat was not allowed until after 7 weeks at one month only flaky fish ! I could only eat half an egg

Wow I was three days in the hospital and they really wanted to keep me one extra!!! Was sleeved on 8/17/15 I was dry heaving for 2 days couldn't imagine going home that same day. But I'm sure mine was triple the cost!! Good luck take it easy rest and walk drinking 1 ounce every 15 min set and alarm if need be.

Oh wow your four weeks out? Are you on the mushy food phase? I have been on the liquid diet for two weeks before surgery and I have been so emotionally hungry! Thanks for the kind words Yes, I'm on limited soft foods: cottage cheese, refried Beans, mushed veggies, oatmeal/cream of wheat, greek yogurt. I get to go to the next phase in 10 days. I was on a 2 week pre-packaged food diet pre-op. Don't worry, your hunger will disappear after surgery; at least, MINE did. Now I eat because I HAVE to...or because I WANT to.

4 weeks post op and have pain on my right side around my waist it hurts when I'm standing or when I'm bending down I'm so mad idk what's wrong
-
KateBruin - so sorry to hear about this! I hope they get you fixed up soon! Sleeved 8 weeks ago and no complications so far here. I'm feeling very blessed.

I was sleeved on June 20th and I 'think' I am hungry all the time! I don't really know what full feels like? Does chest discomfort mean your sleeve is full??? I get those feelings but my stomach is always growling. I am getting a minimum of 60 grams of protein and 50 ounces of water a day. I am still on liquids so I also eat jello, broth, and popsicles. I have even tried pudding and yogurt! I just feel confused because everyone told me they didn't even want to eat the first week!

I was so weak for the first two weeks and all I could drink was really warm liquid. Everything youre feeling, I went through.. 6 months later, im at goal.. Normal bmi, size 4 or 6, eating like a normal thin person, and running 5 miles a day, 5 days a week. Eventually everything you are going through will all be soooo worth it. One day at a time, everyday it gets better and better. Knowing that is what kept me going
