Not all pre op diets are liquids only. Mine was 2 Protein shakes, 1 serving if Greek yogurt/cottage cheese, 3-4 cups of vegetables, and 3-4 ounces of lean protein. If your dr wants liquids only that's what you should do. But know that it's not a universal recommendation and if your dinner is small and healthy you likely have done no harm. Overwhelmed on what to stick my cabinets with
Inner Surfer Girl replied to LisaOle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The first few weeks I lived on Premier Protein, ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates, ProtiDiet tomato basil and creamy chicken Soups, Syntrax nectar (fuzzy navel is my favorite), GNC Lean 25 orange cream, V8, sugar free Popsicles, and sugar free Jello. I added Danon Light & Fit Greek yogurt, cottage cheese. Refried Beans, no sugar added diced peaches, and no sugar added applesauce for the transition from full liquids to soft foods. Just keep in mind that you won't be able to consume a large volume. Getting in all of your protein and fluids will be your priority. -
Protein & Water Concerns
AnA92212 replied to christinems4280's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I used to think "how am I ever going to get all this in". Here's my eating routine: 8oz coffee on my ride into work. Protein shake and turkey sausage patty when I get to work (or sugar free oatmeal, eggs, etc) at 9 am. 10 am I start Water in take. I drink 16 oz of water. Sometime between 11 and 12 I have a snack. usually a piece of turkey deli meat and a piece of cheese or greek yogurt, etc. Then more water. Around 2 or 3 I have my lunch. Then more water. Then at 4-ish I have a snack before I go work out at 5. During work out I drink water. When I get home I drink water. Then around 8 we eat dinner. So, yeah, it pretty much revolves around food and water. -
4 days post op...well, HELLO hunger!
Glennda replied to Seraphina Valentina's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had my surgery yesterday, and I was a little hungry. I ate some Jello and that filled me up. I get to eat cream Soups and yogurt tomorrow. Looking forward to the next phase of my life! Did you lose 28 pounds in a month? That is incredible! -
I'm going to give the Protein powder in the broth thing another try tomorrow - I'm way turned off by trying to drink it earlier when I messed it up! haha. I'm in my kitchen today prepping for full liquids that I get to start this weekend and I thought I would offer to teach anyone who might think it helpful how my make your own plain greek yogurt. I know those containers at the store get pretty pricey week after week. I've been making my own for about 3 years now and its crazy easy - usually only costs me the price of 1 gallon of milk so around here its about $2.59 a gallon. Making it the first time you'd spend another $1 for a starter plain greek yogurt. Anyway, a batch lasts me nearly 6 weeks and I share it with my wife and 4 year old. So if anyone is interested I can post the "how to" later this weekend. Cheers I hope you are all getting your fluids in!!! 38oz so far for me ~K

Diarrhea and constipation
agreen67 replied to robynbyrd's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm almost 4 months out and I have this issue off and on and I'm still trying to manage it. What usually happens is that I will be constipated for several days, then I'll eat something with high Fiber and will have diarrhea for an entire day. Then I won't go for several days and it starts all over again. I eat yogurt every day and get in at least 64 oz. of Water daily. I do try to incorporate natural applesauce or drink 50/50 diluted apple juice to help things stay regular. Most weeks are okay, but I go through the constipation/diarrhea thing about 2-3 times per month. I am seeing my surgeon and nutritionist next Thursday and will be bringing this up. But like @@Daisee68 mentioned, a high Protein diet (coupled with taking high doses of iron) can constipate you. -
Wondering if I'll be successful
GoldenFemale replied to lovemyself86's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi I too had surgery 14th January in the UK. I've lost 23lbs as of today (in one month) so I'm happy with that. I have been sticking to mainly protien, mushy vegetables ensuring I chew well and I've been fine. I also have low sugar Cereal like bran flakes or weetabix with 1% milk or fat free yoghurt/Greek yogurt and puréed fruit. I also eat banana now well chewed or course. I notice if I focus on drinking more I lose more. It's difficult sometimes but trying. Exercise I walk at the on my treadmill maybe two-four times a week. Only started this 2 weeks ago. Walking now uphill and a bit for faster for about 30 mins. I would love to start Zumba sometime soon, just wanted to be a little lighter before I go as I am a little shy. You all seem to be doing really well so well done! -
Wondering if I'll be successful
Athenyx replied to lovemyself86's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hey there! Congrats on the weight loss so far! I had my surgery the day before you, so I can tell you a little of what I've been eating or drinking if that helps. Though I am British so some of the suggestions and instructions given to me will probably differ to what you've been told I'm on a blended diet for weeks 2-5/6, which means the consistency of baby food! I make myself blended meals in my nutribullet for savoury food and there's always enough for four or more meals - mostly fresh salmon flakes or chicken chunks or ham chunks or tuna fish mixed with things like vegetable ratatouille or mashed carrot and swede (both of these are cooked first and then blended with the ready to eat meat, or occasionally a little homemade mashed potato with skimmed milk and some gravy (thin made from good stock just to blend it better). I eat fromage frais yogurts, low fat mousses, these high protein low cal (100kcal 125g) vanilla puddings that have 15g of protein, ready brek, and greek yogurt with blended fruit (strawberries, raspberries, peaches, pears). I drink a cup of coffee first thing in the morning (no sugar, skimmed milk) and throughout the day I mostly have water with a little light fruit juice mixed in (I prefer red grape juice as it tastes like Ribena when mixed with water). It's also easier to put that in a 500ml bottle so I know how much water I've drunk. I also have high protein milk, milkshakes, and mocha mix to add to my protein at the end of the day if I feel like I haven't had very much. I would most definitely stay away from cheeto puffs and ice cream, and maybe blend the broccoli when soft if you're going to eat that. But there are plenty of veg that are mashable, so it might be worth just taking the time to wander around the supermarket and see what you could make In terms of exercise - have you thought about swimming? I hate walking (I know thats pretty weird, but when I'm doing it for the sake of walking and not to say shop or get somewhere I hate it) so I've started going to the local pool every other day to do lengths for 30 minutes and it's a great, relaxing workout! (plus, i burn about 326 calories each time). Let me know if there's anything else you're a little unsure on at this stage - and is it okay to add you as a friend? I think you're literally the only person I've found that's really close to my circumstances - same age and nearly the same surgery date and weight! -
Calling all February 1st Sleevers!

I am on full liquids now which includes sugar free pudding, blended yogurt and low fat creamed Soups strained. So I skip the food at breakfast now and only have shake. Ah! Ok!!! Makes sense! Those aren't even options in my "full liquids"! I would love some Greek yogurt! -
You have to get that Protein up. Protein helps with healing among other things. What shakes have you tried? Have you tried Premier Protein ready made shakes? Only 11 oz and 30g protein. Highly recommend them. Are you able to eat yogurt? I buy Greek Yogurt (I like Dannon Light & Fit Greek Yogurt - strawberry Cheesecake and Key Lime flavors) and then I mix 1/2 a scoop of vanilla Protein powder (I love the Precision Engineering whey Protein Isolate). That bumps up the protein a lot. Also, if you can have pudding, I sugar free Fat Free chocolate pudding snack and mix 1/2 scoop Of Chocolate Protein Powder. (Again, the Precision Engineering Whey Protein Isolate.) If you can at least eat pureed or soft foods, then there are other options other than shakes.

What kind of foods are ok as soft foods sleeve post-op?
Pescador replied to Johndoe's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
As much as I love potatoes I have learned no potatoes, pasta or bread in my house as I cannot resist. I craved things spIcy, so refried beans with a little taco sauce or salsa was great. My husband cured his cravings with broth. I needed more substantial things like yogurt and cottage cheese. It is well over two years since we were sleeved, and his loss has been much more than mine. He refuses to eat any carbs. Good luck!!! -
Go slow, I know there is a real feeling of seeing what you can tolerate early. I know everyone's plan is different, and that some people tolerate things better than others. However, you only get one chance to heal right. No reason to rush it and even chance that something may not go right. If your not supposed to be on soft foods yet, don't test it... Stick with the basics and the first few weeks of restrictions will be past. My other suggestion was to maybe try some yogurts.

On soft foods I was able to do canned tuna, refried beans, eggs, yogurt and such. I never had any trouble tolerating food. -
What kind of foods are ok as soft foods sleeve post-op?
JamieLogical replied to Johndoe's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
any kind of seasoning is allowed as long as your stomach can tolerate it. I had no issues with spices almost immediately post-op. Others do experience some sensitivity, so make sure you go easy on the spices until you are sure they don't disagree with you. Also, I would advise against mashed potatoes. There's no protein in potatoes. You should instead eat things like cottage cheese, eggs, refried beans, and yogurt. Those are all high protein foods and getting in your protein as you are healing is critical. -
@@Adtrx3 I started to get some energy back once I was on solid foods and could get more calories in. I pushed hard to try to get above 800 calories a day ASAP. I also pushed hard to get up to 100 grams of protein a day. Had to use protein shakes, greek yogurt, string cheese, eggs, and meat (once I was allowed ground or shredded meat) to do that. It was a challenge for sure!

Protein shakes, Protein Bars, adding unflavored Protein Powder to everything. Or use protein powder of your choice to flavor plain Greek yogurt. That easily gives you 20g in just 1/2 cup. And like Jess, at over 2 years out I still supplement with shakes and bars. 1 shake + 1 Quest bar = 40-50g. Getting another 30-40g from food is easy.

when I have days I struggle, I am 6 months out, I use GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder and add it to yogurt usually, and that helps t get in the protein for the day. 1 scoop of the genepro has 30gms of protein

Do bananas cause you to dump?/leg cramps
bugsy72 replied to bugsy72's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@DDN Yes, my nutritionist said i could try 1/2 a banana at that time because i was having leg cramps, but it didn't go so well, made me sick. But now, 10 weeks out, I can happily enjoy 1/2 banana without a problem. Maybe even work up to a whole banana at some point...i do love them. I have some blueberries in the fridge that i've been wanting to try, but a little fearful. I'm in that "trial and error" stage (maybe it never ends?) where I'm able to try other foods now other than soups and yogurt and cottage cheese. -
Mediterranean Style Eating
Afrikanaaa replied to JupiterinVirgo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was a vegan for about 2 years and vegetarian for a year after that, all leading up to my WLS. (Btw-- I am not a moral veg-eater. I used to eat meat, then got sick, and couldn't eat it anymore.) In getting my sleeve done, my nutritionist and I devised a plan on how I'd be able to get my Protein in / keep the carbs low. I stuck vegetarian. I get my protein from Protein shakes , meatless ground beef (I swear this actually tastes pretty good), Beans, eggs, cheese and Greek yogurt (which I had to build up a tolerance to). I'm getting about 70-80g of protein in daily right now. My nutritionist also has me taking B12 and Vitamin D every other day (so I'm not missing nutrients with my intake). Oddly enough I was willing to attempt red meat / whatever to get my protein in, because I want to be very successful post-op, but when I tried it still made me really sick. ???? -

prettyCali916 replied to arenea's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey Arenea! What syntrax are you taking? I have the plain and it is meh too but I think Adina might've had the chocolate truffle and she swears by it. Maybe try that?I have the Caribbean Cooler, it smells great as a powder, but when I mix it with water I can't stand it. It's just weird. So today I bought the Campbell's soup on the go chicken noodle flavor and that worked. I didn't eat the little noodles or carrots although they were very soft, but I did drink the broth. I saw they have chicken tortilla in the drinkable on the go soups too. I saw someone asking, but I'm sure it's not as good as homemade. That's so funny! I bought Campbell's chicken noodle and cooked a whole can, completely drained the broth and had that yesterday. My sweet 16 month old daughter ate most of the noodles, carrots and pieces of chicken. She loved it lol!!! That was the best broth/soup ever!!!! On another note - I am SO over these sickly sweet protein drinks! I am a sweet tooth usually but this is too much! I can't wait for Monday!! I have such great plans for next week involving eggs, Greek yogurt, thick blended soups with chicken! Omg! Grocery shopping on Sunday! -
