  1. I'll be five weeks post op tomorrow and I have to say I've been doing well. No food problems whatsoever. I was feeling pretty 'normal', like nothing had changed. Until this week... All this week I've been in training for our system upgrade. Monday was good - we went out for lunch and I had some great tilapia. Tuesday I brown-bagged it. I brought a few crackers, one of those envelopes of tuna (2 1/2oz), and a square of cheddar. After eating 1 1/2 crackers and half of the tuna I started to feel pain just below my breasts, which was quickly followed by nausea. I ran for the ladies room but nothing would come up. It was horrible! It felt like it was stuck. Terrible pain and wave after wave of nausea. I felt that if it would only come up I'd feel better so I tried sticking my fingers down my throat but all I got each time was gobs of foamy saliva. It was terrible! The only other time I felt that bad was when I had a gallbladder attack, but this had nausea on top of the pain. I spent almost TWO hours in that ladies room, pacing or bent over a toilet, waiting for it to subside. I missed half of an afternoon's training and I was embarrassed. I've had tuna before, no problem. But this time I didn't have mayo in it. I ate it right from the package. I thought being packed in Water it would be moist enough but I was SO WRONG!!!! So, when my instructions say soft, moist foods, it means soft, MOIST foods! Lesson learned...

    I need a secretary!

go to cozi.com. This is a shared calendar, shopping list, etc.....My husband and I share it, so we both get set up reminders for appts and such. You can set a reminder for yourself or go to all family members. Every Sunday it sends me a list of all the appointments for the week. It has a grocery list that you can add to it while the other person is at the store. I even have my husband trained to put on his doctor appts as soon as they are made. I love it.

    Firecrackers Week of July 18

I'm a firecracker this week! My surgery is scheduled for July 21st and while I'm really excited for it...I'm still kinda scared and nervous. Thanks for all the well wishes and please add me to your prayer/happy thoughts lists!

    On the fence

Hey everyone, I haven't posted much, but I lurk here quite often. I'm sitting in front of my laptop with a manometry tube down my nose, an uncomfortable lump in my throat, pain from gallstones, and anxiety because my pre-op is a week away. I was so motivated, exercising, changing my diet, doing everything they told me to. I'm strong, I'm smart, I know I can do anything I set my mind to, except lose weight on my own. And that, the fact that I can do anything but lose weight, is what is terrifying me about going through with this. The what if's. What if I go through with loosing over 70% of my stomach forever, with nothing to show? What if I subject myself to all this pain, torture, medical tests, a lifetime of not being "normal" to lose only 30 pounds? I know I'm in that pre-game jitter phase, and I recognize the crazy, self-doubting talk, but its starting to win and I need a little help.

    So tired

I was really super tired the first two weeks. Then I could feel myself slowly getting stronger. Everyone is different, but take it easy as you can and let your body heal. Sorry hubby is annoyed. Did you expect to heal faster? If there is a support group near you, perhaps you could get hubby to attend one with you? There he will meet other people who've had the surgery and now have more energy than ever before. And they can say how long it took them to get back to full-time normal life. If that's not an option, then maybe just a sit down where you explain you simply can't do it all right now and you guys work out what you can do that would be most helpful. Like maybe he really hates changing diapers, but is OK making dinner? Only you know your situation at home. If he's just being Jerky, then maybe you need to push back. One thing to keep telling yourself is that is does get better, and in a fairly rapid time frame! Lynda

Sleeveme2011 and Lillee - I am so glad that you guys are very close to me. This seems to me to be part I am most worried about...to see if I can do this for 2 weeks! It's nice to have support.

    What Made You Decide

I've been overweight my entire life. Done the merry-go-round of yo-yo dieting. And I struggled with bulimia starting at the age of 13. 4 months before my 20th birthday, I sought out counseling for my eating disorder, and came clean to my husband and my family. After months of counseling I realized my body wasn't getting any healthier, and the warped mindset I had/have from my years of distorted eating were making it impossible for me to adopt a healthy eating style, all I would do is diet for a couple of weeks and fall back into old habits. On top of all of that my husband and I had been trying to conceive since we got married (2 years ago) and were having no luck.( I am thankful now that I wasn't able to conceive because my mind was not in the right place.) Anyways I had gone to talk to my OB/GYN about our difficulty conceiving and she assured me that it was because of my weight, and that is how I got put on the pathway in February of this year. On August 26th 2011 my life was forever changed. This year I celebrated my 21st Birthday (Nov 18th) 53lbs lighter than I was on my last bday. My sleeve has given me so much. It's helped me (well that and counseling) to realize that I don't need food to comfort me and the detrimental cycle of binging and purging is absolutely worthless. I feel good about being able to nourish my body. Something I have never seen in what I eat. I eat food for it's nutritional value to my body, not because I have a hole inside that I am trying to fill. This was my first Thanksgiving where I was truly able to enjoy the company of my loved ones and not be focused on having to empty out my stomach so I can fill it again 3 more times. I'm no longer self conscious about eating in front of others, and I just feel like the whole world has opened to me. I never would have been to this point without the support of my husband either. I'm not saying that the sleeve "cured" my bulimia, because I still hear that nasty little voice in the back of my head on occasion (particularly lately since my weight loss progress has slowed a bit). But I am saying that it has given me the self restraint to not give into my defeatist alter ego. I will forever be grateful that I was given this chance, because for the first time in the last 8 years I have been able to live my life without fear of food. And that to me is absolutely priceless. Sorry for the book lol.
  10. I know it took me 6 weeks before I could sleep on my side again. It about drove me crazy! I agree it's always best to check with your surgeon though. Hope you're feeling better soon. The worst part is behind you - it gets WAY better, I promise!
  11. I did a bit of searching about mushie foods and found some really good things. I picked up some stuff today! I got stuff for the fat free refried Beans, and the pastaless lasagne! I'm excited to try them. I also saw some people mention tuna salad and chicken salad. (I picked up a food processor haha.) Those things are okay to eat 2 weeks post op? Should I wait until my 2nd week of mushies? I also picked up cream Soups (cream of broccoli, cream of cheddar, cream of potato). These are okay too, right? What about beans? I picked up some bushes baked beans. Are these okay? Do I have you puree those as well? Just looking for some ideas so I can make some stuff for lunches during the week!
  12. I had my lap band "installed" last month in Austin, Texas. My family is on the last year of a three year ex-pat assignment in Germany and we live south of Munich. I'm returning to the Texas tomorrow to get my first fill, but really need to find a local Dr. for the next few fills. My Texas Dr. is helping me look for a local Dr, but so far they have not heard back from Allergan. Does anyone have any recomendations of Dr's they've had a good experience with? I'd be willing to travel a bit in order to get a good Dr. Thanks for all you help!
  13. I waited six weeks from diagnosis to having my gallbladder out. During the six week period, my diet became more and more restricted. At the end, I was only eating milk toast, buttered noodles, and potatoe Soup. By five and 1/2 weeks out, I was in coninuous pain from the gallbladder, whether I was eating or not. The doctor wanted to move up the surgeon, but I didn't want to as I was having a second unrelated surgery at the same time as the gallbladder surgery. I made it to have my gallbladder out as scheduled, but the doctor who did the surgery told me, after looking at my gallbladder, that it would have ruptured if I waited another 24 hours. Ask your doctor / whoever is reading your labs there recommendation. It depends on how easy your surgery is going to be and how quickly you recover if you will be well enough to travel.
  14. Hi y'all!!! I'm Kristey, and yes, I currently reside in Tucson, AZ- but my hubby and I are hoping his temporary assignment there in San Antonio becomes permanent. WOOT! (We dearly want to get back to the great state of TEXAS! I miss it there!!!) In the meantime, I am planning on spending a week with him over Thanksgiving. He's staying in a hotel near the Riverview Center. (I think that's the name of the mall there on the Riverwalk.) So...I NEED YOUR HELP! Are there ANY sleeve friendly restaurants near there? As much as I want to go pig out on some good ole Texas BBQ, I need to be realistic about how much weight I will gain if I do that. LOL. Thanks for your help!!! (And please send out some good thoughts about this Texas girl being able to move back! )

    One week post op.

I had the same and I am now a week and 6 day. It took me ten days to feel better. Now everyone's body react different but it took me ten days. Hang in there and congratulations to u!
  16. Hi There! I'm Jes. I'm twenty four.. from Baltimore, Maryland. I had my sleeve on December 20th, 2010. So I will be ten months out in just three dates. I started my journey at 317 pounds, day of surgery I was 292. And, today I'm at 175 pounds. To date the brings me to a total f 142 pounds lost. My original goal weight was 150 pounds. But, even then at 5'5 my BMI would be considered over weight. So at my last visit my surgeon and I jokingly agreed my new goal weight was 147. So either way you look at it I have 25lbs or 27 lbs. I started wearing a 24/26 and a 2/3 x top. I'm now in a 12/14 and a Medium top. SUPER excited. My personal goal was a 14 because I couldn't ever remember fitting into a 14. And, now they're starting to be too big.... AMAZING! I've noticed lately the only time I lose weight is when it's TOM! I was hoping to reach goal by my 1 year mark. But, at this point I'll be happy with just meeting goal in general!
  17. I have had my band for 4 years and with great success. For the past few weeks, I have been overeating and know that I shouldn't have. Three days ago I ate too much and had the normal discomfort under left ribs like always. The pain/discomfort usually subsides but I have had this now for three days. At times it's difficult to take deep breaths and is tender upon pressing on area. I am afraid to eat now because I tried and have had terrible heartburn. I can however consume liquids. Anyone experience the same thing so far after banding? Any suggestions?

    Welcome!

Intro - My name is Edie and I'm 54. I've been waiting for this surgery since 2008. FINALLY BCBS North Carolina stopped calling it investigational. I've finished all my pre-op testing and the doctor's office submitted it to the insurance company. Now I wait in suspense. I think it could happen pretty quickly once they get approval. I had to have a colonoscopy and upper endoscopy and some samples were sent for biopsy so that could take a couple weeks - I don't know if they will wait for those results before scheduling me. The GI doc said everything looked good and that he was going to clear me for surgery. After waiting all these years, it doesn't even seem real. My surgeon has done MANY bariatric surgeries, but only about a dozen sleeves. He seems very comfortable with it though and I am comfortable with him and the reputation of the practice. I was tested up one side and down the other!

is my band filled too much?

I've been at 7.5cc a couple weeks now. Good weight loss, but now it seems I can eat more and more. I might need to go up to 7.75cc.

    Port Dislocated??

I had my lapband surgery on June 18 and my first fill with xray 4 weeks later. It was difficult to find and the Dr. said it had migrated. It took many tries even with the contrast and xray to find it. I'm slightly nervous about my second fill next week (again with contrast and xray assist) Janet

    Lap Band Diet Questions?

I think I'd schedule an appt with the nutritionist that works with your doctor, because that IS confusing to not be allowed milk, yet non fat cottage cheese is allowed? The only thing I can think of is that perhaps the doctor is trying to steer you away from liquid calories. Yet a serving or two of non fat milk per day is often OK with other doctors to help us get our Calcium in. Every single bariatric doctor is going to have slightly different ideas on how their patients should eat post-op. And not all plans will work with all patients. Seriously I'd go back and get clarification. Good Luck. Glad you're getting to move to more solid food soon. I was back on regular food by two weeks. I can't imagine doing liquids for a month.
  22. I'm so sorry that this is happening to you, but take heart, it will move! I was in a major stall not so long ago for 3 1/2 MONTHS. . . not weeks, but months! Now if that isn't depressing i don't what is. . .but you know what, i dealt with it and the scale did move finally. . . now it's just clicking away. . . you have to be patient and not get down on yourself like that. . . it didn't take you overnight to get fat, so it won't take you overnight to lose weight either. . . good luck!

    Time Between Fills

That is dependent entirely on your surgeon and his fill schedule and rules. I see my surgeon every 4 weeks and get a fill if needed.
  25. honk

    Time Between Fills

It can take up to 2 weeks for a fill to take affect. Being as this is your first fill it probably isn't going to do much for you. In general my doctor says you need to wait 3 weeks between fills. While I understand it's hard to hear this right now but it is always better to be loose then to be to tight.
