  1. Yeah, that's why I wanted to go with a sleeve too. Although I just met with the surgeon for the first time yesterday and he wants to do a bypass! I just don't know if I should insist on a sleeve or not 😓

    Pains after surgery

Bypass yesterday and the left sided pain is excruciating. Doc says it due the the added muscles he had to go through. Sure hope it eases up soon as it’s scaring me. Nothing near this bad after VSG in 2014.

    Just got the call!

Why are you being revised??? Sent from my LM-Q710(FGN) using BariatricPal mobile app
  4. I have sleep apnea and hypothyroidism. I had gastric bypass surgery and I’m a little concerned that not much weight is coming off now. I am two weeks out
  5. How tall are you. More info please about the first surgery. Why do you think that eating cereal and milk is a recipe for anything other than regain (and then some) and hellah GERD? I had RNY and before and after surgery, if I ate a meal like that I have hellah GERD. Just asking cuz there are no magic surgeries. And typically revision surgery doesn't imbue the type of weight loss you see in virgin surgeries--especially if there are emotional food eating behaviors that have contributed to the regain. Regardless of which surgery you choose, the main question should really be--where can I find the best RD and best bariatric counselor to work with on my eating program? Welcome! And I wish you all the best.
  6. So I had my sleeve done in 2014. Day of surgery I was 210 pounds. Lowest I dropped to was 174. I maintained my weight between 180-190 for a couple of years. With in the past year gained back all the weight I lost and then some. I’m currently at 212 pounds. I think I have some sort of hernia, and HELLA MEGA BAD reflux. I take Zantac everyday, like even cereal with milk gives me bad heartburn. So now here I am, thinking I should get some revision surgery. I already made an appt for a consult. But I’d also like y’alls opinions or suggestions. -What’s better post sleeve, Roux en Y or bypass? Also, what are some things y’all wish you would have known with revision???

    ❤My Revision Story❤

Hoping that all goes well for you now. My revision is scheduled for tomorrow at 11am. The info that you have shared is invaluable to me. Thanks so much!
  8. I will be having my gastric sleeve converted to the RNY hopefully, in December. I was told by my provider that they never had to get the authorization up front with Medicare. She said they submitted the letter of medical necessity with the claim when they filed and they never had any problems. I believe that Medicare has guidelines you must follow in order for them to cover my procedure. The problem is I'm not overweight, but I'm being revised due to spontaneous reflux. Everything I eat the majority of it comes back up. I definitely have the medical necessity. In my doctor's notes he states that I am malnourished and not receiving the nutrients I need to sustain life. So, basically if I don't have the procedure I'm not going to live a lot longer. My BC/BS of AL will not cover it because I had the original procedure out of the country and didn't follow insurance guidelines that are typical for WLS. I had other insurance at the time I had the surgery. The surgery was done probably 10 years before I became effective with BC/BS of AL. I've contacted Medicare to see if they would cover and was told yes if medically necessary. Since the self pay is a lot, I want to feel warm and cozy on the idea of the surgery being covered by Medicare. Has anyone had the revision due to complications only and Medicare cover? Thanks!

It's entirely possible. Have you tried the recommended "GASTRIC SLEEVE RESET"? Here is a cut 'n' paste: Complete Five-Day Bariatric Reset Diet The Five-Day Pouch Reset is a "reset" diet for people who have had gastric bypass surgery and might be starting to regain weight. Step 1 Drink only liquids for the first two days of the five-day diet. You'll need to drink at least two litres of water in addition to low-carb protein shakes. You can drink as many shakes as you want; the point of the first 48 hours is to take a break from your eating habits. By getting all of the nutritional needs from liquids, you'll be forced to pay attention to how often you were eating, snacking or simply grazing. Remember: The goal during this phase isn't weight loss, but mentally re-setting your habits. You can't make your pouch smaller through changes in diet, but you can learn portion control. Step 2 Eat only protein the next three days. On day three, you'll eat "soft protein" such as eggs and cottage cheese. On day four, you'll eat "ground meats" -- such as meatloaf and hamburger. On day five, you'll eat "solid proteins" such as chicken breast or a piece of fish. Limit condiments, such as salsa or mayonnaise. Foods should be as dry as possible -- which will help you gauge how full you are. You're allowed to eat as much as you'd like and as often as you like, but you must stop eating 15 minutes after you start. Do not sit and eat for longer than 15 minutes at any point during the final stage of the diet. Step 3 Do not drink any liquids 30 minutes before eating or with your meals. Liquids can help push foods more quickly through your pouch, allowing you to eat more than you should. Many facets of the five-day bariatric pouch reset diet are similar to the post-op diet followed right after surgery. Tips Plan ahead because the diet restricts the types of food you can eat. Make sure you have the foods you need on hand. The goal of this diet is to make you conscious of your food choices and stop mindless eating. Warnings According to the National Institutes of Health, "bypass surgery alone is not a solution to losing weight. It can train you to eat less, but you still have to do much of the work. You will need to follow the exercise and eating guidelines that your doctor and dietitian gave you."

    Supporting Cast

Kisha and Krimson Butterfly- Its the dog-honest thing. Now that I am 1/2 the size I once was , really-truly AM , down to 182 from HW of 365+, people are coming out of the WoodWork, "Oh I have been watching and supporting YOU all along!" I knew YOU could do it, should I have told YOU?" Yeah it sure would have been nice, especially when I had my PICC line in and didn't know how long That Might Be! Suddenly they want to support ME but where were they when I was scared to death to even undertake it at 72, with so many telling me "I was DESTROYING my health" Should be satisfied to do NOTHING and die OBESE" You'll die on the Operating Table Anyway!" I seem to recall only Tomkitten , my son, really cheering me ON. Even my PCP, the very one who forecast "Death Before 75 " and told me Surgeon #1 was right to drop me because I was over 70 and a BAD SURGICAL RISK! Incredibly he now is Peeved because I have lost weight so Fast, told me He only expected ME to drop 70% of my Excess Weight, That's a VSG amount- I'm an RNY Bypass- We Lose 75 to 85%- wouldn't YOU THINK a DOCTOR Should KNOW THAT? Perhaps I should smile sweetly but inside I AM SEETHING- Seems like it's "A Little Too Late To Do the RIGHT thing NOW!" See I Had convinced myself it was The Right Time- The Right Operation- Done in the Right Place- By the right surgeon- For the Right reasons- To the Right person- but from then on I should use every tool possible to ensure IT All Was Not in Vain. And I worked HARD, So Very HARD to prove I was just as good as people 1/2, even 1/3 MY Age . And Now Suddenly They WANT to join MY PARADE? I just can't fathom it All!

    WLS and Clothes

I assume you meant my original sleeve surgery, I managed to lose 45 lbs pre-op so I was at 375 on surgery date. As for my revision, I lost 30 lbs pre-op so was at 300 on 6/15/19.

Any August 2019 people out there?

Starting the day I got home after my bypass, all of my incisions were swollen and red (about an inch or so around the incisions), then I got a rash, that eventually spread from my neck to mid-thigh... it was hideous. I took pics and sent them to my doctor, and he called me within an hour to day — a small percentage of people are allergic to the surgical glue, looks like you’re one of them. We need to get that off of you! The pain issue from the hernia site was what put me back in the hospital, but while I was there, they were able to clear up the rash!

Sick for 2 hours? Is it normal?

This has happened to me SEVERAL times. I am 5 1/2 months past bypass and it is horrible and it usually happens when I'm at work and it lasts for hours! Yes we will get better!

    WLS and Clothes

I cannot answer your question as I haven't bought anything but socks and underwear from WM in many years, I have to buy FR (Fire Retardant) clothes for my work so I just wear those jeans for everyday clothes as well, shorts, sweats, shirts, etc...I buy online. BUT, I just wanted to give you a huge congrats!!!! I know the feeling as we have almost the exact same stats. I was up to 420 in 2015, am 5' 10''. I was up to a 54 waist also. I am currently in a loose 40 and saving pennies for some 38s. I had a bunch of stuff, down to 36 because I had lost down to 190 but when I gained a bunch back (up to 330) I got pissed/depressed/whatever, and gave all my smaller clothes away....again. I had my revision from sleeve to bypass in June and now having to keep buying all these clothes all over again. Anyway, congrats on the amazing weight loss, keep it up.

    June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

Hello all, been a couple months since my last post. Down another 10 or so lbs since then. I have had a couple stalls and loss has slowed down but I am still not really exercising due to working so much, so in a way it is good to know that I am dropping weight just by eating healthy. I am on full solids now and I found out pretty quickly that I cannot do the regular Keto with this bypass like I did with the sleeve. The excess fats cause diarrhea. That kind of sucks because I can't stand ground Turkey so if I do foods with EXTRA lean ground beef I just have to take a chance on how I will react to it. I am glad it does that in a way, it tells me I won't be absorbing all that fat anymore. Another HUGE win is that for some odd reason, I am able to eat all kinds of lettuce again, even the iceberg....with the sleeve, any kind of lettuce would cause major stomach pain and I would throw it right back up but now it sits just fine so lots of salads for me!!! yippee!! LOL I know I need to supplement my protein though but that's not really a problem. I have been just sprinkling a scoop of Unjury unflavored powder in the salads. Problem solved. Hope everyone is doing well. Until next time.....✌️
  17. Had gastric bypass last month and I've been doing really well recovery wise. Warning - there is some TMI in this post, but I really need help... Background info: My BMs since surgery have been regular but...flaky? Not liquid diarrhea, but just - kinda powdery. Didn't think much of it since I figured well, I've been eating so much less and, blah blah. But then, the past couple of days I could "feel" the constipation was oncoming (I've had it my whole life, I know the feeling). I took some stool softeners, no bueno. Fast forward to last night - I was on the toilet all night off and on, crying out in pain, almost passing out and nauseated and feeling like I was gonna puke. I could "feel" this rock hard huge BM was right there at the edge, and even having to urinate was hell bc it would put pressure on it and I could feel it trying to come out but, it was NOT gonna come out. By 4am, I was close to having husband take me to urgent care bc I knew it was "impacted" in there. I tried a couple of enemas, as hellish as that was - absolutely no help. Finally later this morning I managed to pass the monster-brick-hard BM (TMI - this involved my awkward digital breakup attempts, also hell) that has probably been in there this whole time I thought the "flaky" BM's were "normal." 😨 And I felt relief, but then next time I tried to go to the bathroom, a couple of hours ago, I can tell there's more, and it hurts. 😰 Oh and I did call the doctor (first thing this morning) and he said to take Milk of Magnesia and drink lots of water. Done. But research on this wonderful site has given me all other kinds of good advice regarding routines and products, etc. etc. - . I will be using it. Where I need guidance/advice: So, I'm in the "soft/mushy" foods phase of the post-op regimen. I've been continuing with at least 1 Premier Protein shake a day, sometimes two - to help get in enough protein (it's so hard to reach my daily goal!). Then for dinner I've been having one of the following: Mushed up lowfat cottage cheese - OR - hard boiled egg blended up in my mini-blender with a tiny dollop of lite mayo and mustard - OR - also using my mini-blender, ground up moistened chicken breast with a tiny bit of lite mayo and celery salt (my version of "chicken salad" lol) - OR - watered down and mushed up refried beans with a bit of green salsa. I'm also meeting/ exceeding my 64oz fluid requirement daily (mostly water, some herbal teas) - and in fact usually surpass that. Are there any soft foods phase "meals" y'all can recommend that can - along with the other stuff like MOM, Colace, etc. - help prevent constipation or at least not actively contribute to it? Are my foods listed above not "ideal"? I'm going by doctor's list of recommendations - but admittedly only sticking to a very few of the choices. I try to keep things simple basically. I've had constipation issues my whole life, even as a young child - and nothing is more terrifying to me honestly - I even had to have a hemorrhoidectomy last year it got so bad - and if this crap continues (ha ha, get it) I know I'll be headed down that road again, which is a nightmare I never wish to repeat. 😩 ANY advice on what other soft foods that could help with avoiding constipation I should start including in my diet would be really helpful, thanks so much in advance!
  18. WTG! Sounds like a great plan! Be sure to contact them if your symptoms get worse!!! Make em document EVERY little thing. I've never ever ever heard of anyone being made to wait 6 months for a medically necessary revision. Especially one involving active GERD that could cause Barrett's or erosion or ulceration, etc...at any time. I'd be that darn squeaky wheel they want to move along in the process!!!! ((hugs))
  19. Okay, I want my sleeve revised or maybe not? I have to go through a 6 month process. I am beeing seen by one of the top bariatric surgeons. So here are some positives: (1) I have not gain all my weight back. (2) Having another procedure does not guarantee my GERD will be completely eliminated. (3) I will work with a specialist for WLS patients with GERD. (4) Following this lifestyle, I can get healthier and lose more weight. (5) I am willing to do this for at least 6 months. (6) My hernia will continue to be monitored. (7) I will increase my exercise. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using BariatricPal mobile app
  20. Not leaving the remnant stomach is an option (that is what is done when the surgery is for something like gastric cancer - you don't want it lying around in there, lol) but there are trade offs as usual. The main one that I can think of is that the stomach is no longer there producing acid to neutralize the bile being secreted just downstream of it, so there may be greater chances of bile reflux. AFAIK, there are ways to minimize that when the surgery is done, but these are things to discuss with the surgeon as to how best handle your individual problems. If I had revised my VSG ro an RNY a few years ago, that is how it would have been done - no remnant stomach.

    RNY to SIPS/SADI

Revising the RNY to anything is difficult, which is why we don't see many revisions done; typically the most that is done is applying a band over bypass, or tightening the stoma to try to restore some restriction, but neither has a particularly good track record. I have seen a few revisions to the "traditional" BPD/DS performed which is very complex, and there are only a half dozen or so surgeons around capable doing that one. As the SIPS/SADI/SA-DS is being promoted as a simpler, more "accessible" procedure on a par with the RNY on a complexity basis, I wouldn't expect to see many surgeons with the skills yet to do a revision between the two. One doc to check into, who is in your neck of the woods, is Dr. Mitchell Roslin in NYC, who has done some of the RNY to DS revisons, and is a big promoter of the SIPS/SADI - if anyone could do it, he would be it, or he could tell you why it isn't such a good idea, if that is the case. Another possible in your neighborhood (just over the border in NJ is Dr. David Greenbaum who also does a lot of these complex revisions.
  22. This is the progress just from the first four days of seasoning(Seasoning your corset is the process of slowly breaking in your corset. It allows the steel bones of the fabric to slowly mold to your shape and will result in a longer lasting, more comfortable corset. The seasoning process also gives your body some time to adjust to the pressure of a corset.) 🤯 the corset isn’t even fully seasoned till the month mark. I’m just mad at myself for waiting this long to get one 😂. I definitely recommend it! I got mine from alteregoclothing.com.
  23. AFTER my sleeve i was starving then i had a revision to the mini bypass which is 1000 times better for me, I am not hungry and food tastes gross anyway so im losing super fast

    Stopping Omeprazole-

Hi! Thanks for replying and the well wishes. I actually had the bypass due to pre-surgery GERD that was pretty bad.
