  1. For either the clear liquid or full liquid part of the diet. I make home made chicken broth with water, chicken, onion, carrot, parsnip, dill, and a pinch of salt. If I strained all of the chunks out I'm assuming I could use it for my clear liquid diet. Then for full liquid just purée up the veggies and chicken in the broth. Would that count for protein? Calories? How much?

    Do you count vitamin calories?

I am three weeks out and I am lucky if I consume 300 calories per day. I feel satisfied with 200-300 calories. I don't count my vitamins either. It's amazing how different I feel about food now. It's like night and day! I had a stall during week two and didn't lose anything for 6 days. So far I have lost 27 pounds.

5 days Post op and cheated

There was a lady on here that ate 5 flaming Cheetos only 9 days post op so it happens. The thing is, you know it was a slip so just don’t do it again. The biggest reason isn’t really calories, it’s the fact that your new stomach is healing. Don’t want to accidentally mess cause a medical issue ya know? I know the protein shakes suck. Could you thin out yogurt with milk maybe? I’d talk to my doctor to see what I could do instead. Good luck!

    totally math baffled!

At three months I was averaging about 1000 calories (that's where I am now, too, at 4 months). I can't remember where I was at 6 weeks, sorry. However, I was hitting my Protein. I had trouble with working out if I didn't have protein before I worked out and a snack after. I would get dizzy. My nutritionist and the exercise physiologist both said if you don't have time to eat properly yet have time to work out like a fiend, you're out of balance: 80% nutrition and 20% working out. So, are you hitting your protein and Fluid goals? That will make as much difference as the workout. Unless you're craving the workout. I'm working out about three times a week, doing cross-training/circuit type stuff (cardio and weights in the same workout) and have been doing OK with the weight loss. I'm sort of stalled now, but I'm not tracking my food and that's the bigger issue. Kathy
  5. I'm 6 weeks out, exercising regularly, drinking all of my Water, 600-700 calories/day, 80+ grams/protein, and I'm down 16 pounds since the day of surgery (about 20 lbs for the 6-month weight loss program prior to surgery). I would love to be down 70 lbs by next week, but I don't think that it is going to happen! :-) Or even 56 pounds in 3 months. Both of you who posted about being concerned about your rate of weight loss are doing awesome--congratulations! I have always been a slow loser due to hypothyroidism, but it is funny how some posters feel like you are losing slowly when for others, the rate would be really fast! I guess it's all relative. We do all lose differently and we have to have a "good" that is good for us personally. I think it's the poem Desidirata that says: "Do not compare yourselves to others, for there will always be greater or lesser people [rates of weight loss], and you will become bitter or vain." LOL! But it's easier said than done.
  6. Hey all im in a weird head space after being in whats called a stalled state and gaining. Sleeved 7/13/16 weight 275.0 1st Week follow up 7/21/16 wt 255.0 6 Week check up 8/24 wt 245.0 I have stayed here in the 242.2 To 247.0 Range 8/24. I walk 2 miles a day and burn off between 150-200 calories. im without a doubt not over eating maybe even under eating..... Not getting the 64oz of fluids in and pretty sure the Protein is not 40-60gm either im off track mentally and I can't digest the multi Vitamin makes me hurl even on a full stomach the smell alone makes me gag. so I don't take it either. I've tried every Protein shake know to man don't like any of them but im pretty sure I should be drinking them less and less by now and learning how to eat normal food correctly again and finding my protein in food. feel like I need a support partner terribly to push me and help me I've short of given up and I know mu body has the potential to still loose another 50lbs. Please NO judgement I didn't join the group to be beat up on. Just need to know what others did or are doing because I can't be the only one that has been through this. What did others do or are doing to push through Find what to eat How much of it And Alternatives to Vitamins Can anyone offer me a template of what you are eating daily? Breakfast lunch dinner and Snacks? Im looking for ppl who have done this and success with it. I Need Help!!!! Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App
  7. @@AJP1243 I had my surgery the same day as you! I have 3 incisions and all have staples. I have my post-op follow up tomorrow and I thought I read that they will take out my staples then, but I could be wrong. How are you doing otherwise? I am so sick of these sweet Protein drinks I can't stand it anymore! I hope they move me to pureed tomorrow after my appointment. I am def not getting in enough protein or calories. Good luck with everything!
  8. You may feel great now, but that won't last! You can not survive off 400 calories a day with or without excersice! Remember that your goal is to be healthier. Thinner is the result! You have to have a balanced diet to be healthy! I agree with both of the ladies above! You are missing EVERY food group except protien! And a healthy body needs more than just protien to survive! Good luck! Eat a balanced diet!
  9. That doesn't sound like too much to me. In fact, it may be too little pretty soon. My daily calories hover between 700-1000, my Protein 70-100 grams, and my fluids 70-100 ounces. (Wow, I just noticed that all my ranges look the same!) It seems to be working. I feel good and have lost 80 pounds in four months. Good luck, you'll figure it out.
  10. I can eat a whole egg with a sprinkle of cheese for Breakfast. lunch is a Protein shake. And dinner say half a can of salmon with mayo and a slice of avocado. I'm sure this is between 500-600 calories a day. During the liquid phase I was having 320 calories a day and felt faint a few times. Some people say they are stuffed after 2-3 bites or want to vomit. But I dont. We do need some calories...right?

No weight loss 5 days posts op

You are not doing anything wrong, it's completely normal! They pumped your abdomen full of gas for the surgery and you most likely had an IV. It will take a little time for that to go away. And depending on your weight lost prior to surgery, your body could be holding onto all calories. Be patient, the scale will move! Best of luck to you!
  12. 199.8 this morning. LOL scales definitely aren't "flying" downward like I hear with some new sleevers, but that's (mostly) ok. I think we all want to lose weight as quickly as possible, even when it's not realistic. If I weren't still trying to stick to full liquids/puree (essentially the same thing with my docs office), I wouldn't feel like I had a sleeve at all. No difficulty drinking, haven't had trouble with anything that I've tried, no nausea, soreness, etc. I'm hungry, too, but I'm hoping that will change once I start eating solids. On the NSV side of things, my pants have definitely gotten looser! I worked a big bike race yesterday and although it sucked to be in full police uniform directing traffic for 12 hrs, it was nice to have loose pants while doing it. No complaints (so far and knock on wood!) about the sleeve! I didn't weigh at home before going to MX, but I'm guessing I've lost 12-15 lbs since surgery (2 weeks ago). I've NEVER lost an average of 6 lbs in one week before and now, the scales will be going back in the closet! LOL I'll weigh again in 2 weeks, maybe a month, or, if I can stand it , 6 weeks. Until then, I'll try to make the best choices I can with soft foods (start those tomorrow) and keeping the calories down, but emotionally, I do better without those scale numbers. Cindy

    In need of veteran advice!

Struggle to get in "enough calories". enough per? Possible the band is working with nothing in it? Yes, there are some VERY successful people on here who have never had a fill postop. Some just don't seem to need it. Getting a fill later? My surgeon would. Why get one now if you think everything is working good and you're losing weight......thats really the only goal. Congrats! Sounds like you're off to a great start!

Weight Gain 5 weeks post surgery

None of us lose at a constant or steady rate. We all experience fluctuations and periodic stall. It is a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight. We all stall and almost everyone experiences a stall about three weeks after surgery. Follow your program. Focus on getting in ALL of your Protein and AT LEAST 64 oz of Fluid. It also sounds like you need more calories. Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall
  15. I decided to post this so we can all remember the basic rules to succeed with vsg. I have noticed my weightloss has slowed down allot mostly due to eating too many carbs. Im in the calorie range my doc wants to be in but my carbs are high. according to his book if you stall or plateau its either 3 things:too much carbs, not enough exercise, or your building muscle. For me i think its the first 2. Here we go! 1. I will exercise 5 times a week for 30-45 minutes. 2.I will watch my carbohydrate intake 3.I will try to eat 3-5 meals per day with no unhealthy snacking in between 4.I will drink 8 glasses of Water per day 5.I will eat a minimum of 60-70 grams of Protein daily 6.I will honor my commitment to good health and healthy choices 7.I will have follow up care appointments with my doc as needed 8.I will always take my Vitamins 9.I will weight my self once a week 10.I will remember that this is my own journey and not compare my self to others 11.I will always keep in mind that practicing my new habits will make me healthier happier stronger and more energetic. This is what I turn to when I fall off the wagon sort of speak. I need to drink more water, eat more protein, exercise more, and drink more water. Gotta keep my head in the game. Thanks to my Dr.Alvarez for his awesome book about vsg. Hope this helps others
  16. A stall at week 2 or 3 happens to everyone. If you just keep following the instructions for Protein, exercise and Water, it will pass. I know how frustrated you feel, I was going crazy too. Keep your chin up! My doctor said a way to get over a stall is to increase your calories significantly for 2-3 days (say, 1100-1200) then drop them back down to 800.

    Breastfeeding 2 years post op

When my babies were being breastfed, I did notice that my appetite remained at pregnancy levels. (This was many years ago and long before my VSG. ) I think you do need a few extra calories while lactating. Do you have a lactation consultant or nurse at your ob/gyn's office? If so, ask her/him. They may not be familiar with our post op diets, but they can tell how many extra calories lactation takes.
  18. Well you can think all the bad stuff you want!!! :-) All ot that is low calorie and fat free!
  19. Did anything change in your diet at the same time ? New food types introduced? I think a lot of us are losing during pre & post op weeks at a great rate due to being in calorie deficit as well as in a state of ketosis. Then we go and add pureed stuff that maybe takes us out of ketosis.....depending what it is we add to the diet. Our bodies fuel type changes....things occur.
  20. I felt really tired all the time until I was on soft foods and was able to get in more calories. If you are going to try to be physically active, I encourage you to try to get your protein and calories in. I didn't do anything more intense than "brisk walking" until I was over 850 calories a day. Then I stepped it up to 1100-ish calories a day as soon as I could from there. I would say, for me, that was about two months post-op?

    Second Round of Restriction???

The nerves that were severed in your stomach have finally knitted back together. This is why you feel the full restriction now. Mine was about 4 months too. I still have a big restriction {whoop whoop } so I have 5 or 6 tiny meals a day. Otherwise my calories are too low to keep up with my busy new life
  22. catfish87

    Almost 4 weeks post op

Do I think you should try? Of course! Is it going to be easy...no way! I dare say, 99% of banded folks have felt exactly as you are right now. Hence the name bandster HELL. Every single thing you do as far as exercise will help. If your doc wants 1000 calories and you feel you youre giving your best effort and are closer to 12-1500, thats your best effort. Thats all anyone can ask of us, our best effort. Until you get to that restriction level that will help DRASTICALLY, it really is just a diet. You can do it though, one day at a time.
  23. I was banded 1/29/13, I did the 2 week pre op liquid diet and as of today I have lost 26 lbs. I can't seem to get enough calories or protein in. I am getting around 400 calories a day and maybe 40 grams of protein. I work out 5 days a week. I have plenty of energy and I feel great but I'm worried this isn't enough. Here is an example of my daily food: 3 oz of eggs in the morning 3 oz of tuna with low cal mayo for lunch 3-4 oz of chicken for dinner I don't fee like eating much more. Does anyone have suggestions?
  24. During the soft food stage I struggled with same issue. I sliced up bananas and froze them. I could then use one frozen banana with peanut butter in a blender with skim milk. The frozen banana will give you the texture of a shake and you end up with fruit, dairy and protein plus some needed calories. Speaking with nutritionist is a must!
  25. Carbonation doesn't stretch your sleeve. It might make you feel bloated, gassy and uncomfortable but it doesn't stretch your sleeve. Beer has a lot of carbs and empty calories so it is certainly not a wise choice, but it's a choice that you are free to make. I drink a beer or two every week and simply log in the calories. I'e been maintaining for over a year so I know it's OK for ME to do it. Only YOU can determine what's ok for YOU.
