I like to make things with ground turkey, chicken, or beef. It seems to be easier for me to eat ground meat, even at 7.5 months out. I like chili, ground turkey stroganoff (no pasta!), spicy chicken lettuce wraps without the lettuce (I still can't eat lettuce), taco meat with shredded cheese and greek yogurt instead of sour cream, refried beans (also with yogurt and cheese), low-carb tortillas filled with 2% shredded cheese and chorizo refried beans fried in a pan with spray as a quesadilla served with ff plain greek yogurt...

protein shakes
lizonaplane replied to liveaboard15's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The trick to the protein powder (I used Isopure) is DON'T heat it up!!! It clumps and is gross. If you want to put it in soup, heat the soup, then mix the powder with a small amount of cool water THEN add it to hot soup. Try it in a spicy or strongly flavored soup. I found it was better with cream based soup like lobster bisque. It wasn't as noticeable. You can also use high protein milk (like Fairlife brand) or sugar free greek yogurt as sources of protein. Some people thin out the protein drinks with water and find it more tolerable then. Some people like the protein waters, but they tasted "thick" to me. Good luck! take it like medicine if you have too. Sometimes I am someplace where I can't get a brand of protein shake I like and I'll just drink one I hate with my nose closed, as quickly as I can without being in pain. -

I agree that six weeks would be very hard to sustain if it is all liquid or very strict. Mine was not super strict. I was allowed egg whites and meat as well as low starch veggies plus yogurt and sugar free popsicles or jello. I was also allowed free foods like lettuce and pickles. There were a few other free foods but I can only remember making a lot of pickle salads. lol. Those foods were limited quantities too so I was hungry for those pickle salads. You may be able to handle doing something like that for 6 weeks if you wanted to?? It’s basically just low carb which most of have done but with stricter portion sizes than I had ever done. -
I decided to talk with my husband and children about it, my mother and my brother. Some online friends I have met through my business . I lost 30 in the first 2 months of my 6 month program. My mom, brother and husband are on board, but all asked me to reconsider and loose it naturally. I was a skinny person with crazy high metabolism until 30, received medical attention for anxiety and severe depression and poof, weight gain constantly since. I am 41 now. Always was active and was labeled medically induced morbidly obese. I have been to ‘diet doctors’ nutritionists, doctors, tried getting off the medication and gain plus all the time. I was literally doing one meal at dinner and ‘testing’ shakes and purée phase foods for the other meals. Because honestly I am terribly anxious for the liquid diet. Which I happened to start yesterday. I in total lost 50, but gained back 5-10 in a nervous dip and adding back to 3 meals. Trying the yogurt recipes (I gain with yogurt 😢) My doctors still want me to stick with the yogurt. I do know that carbs are my gains. I have my RNY scheduled May 10 and can’t wait. It’s not a secret, but I am not trying to tell anyone because it’s my body and my decision. Judgements are always made and sometimes (always) my family (aunts uncles cousins) can be completely rude. All in all, I am doing this for myself and my children, I want to live and annoy them for a long time and love the families they ave. So don’t worry about anyone else. Immediate support group small~ All I need 🥰

Food Before and After Photos
ms.sss replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Breakfast! Like actual, REAL breakfast at an ACTUAL breakfast-y TIME with breakfast-y FOOD! I have always admired those smoothie/yogurt bowls people come up with on Instagram (an example of one at the very bottom of this post…NOT MINE, just one i aspire to, lol). Here was my attempt at it this morning. Obviously i need more varied ingredients, and better plating skills…🤷🏻♀️ Still good though, ate it all for 312 cals. MINE: NOT MINE: -
I know it seems like it would be a standard easy answer but the rule of thumb is to ask your team because so many places have so many different plans. I would try to work out the protein for the soups and see if you are close to your teams goal (your yogurt should have quite a bit too, especially if it’s Greek yogurt). If not and you don’t want to do protein shakes you could always add plain protein powder to your soups. I haven’t done it but I have read on here that there is a trick to it. The soup can’t be too hot when you mix it in I think.

Hi there totally new here and just looking for peoples experience, I am post op 10 days post gastric bypass, just wondering if I am eating too much or too little, just scared I am messing thing up ; so currently I am eating around 4- 5 yoghurts a day and around 2-3 cups of coffee with almond milk and 2 soups a day. All the yogurts are low sugar and low fat ie when I look at the calories for everything except my soups I get around 600-700 calories a day this is without counting the soups as they are home made with carrots, chicken etc. Pre surgery I was 131 kg - 288.8 pounds , and day of surgery I was 124 kg - 273.4 pounds and now I am 117 kg - 257.9 pounds (10 days post op). (I am 184 cm height - 6.03 feet) I have not eaten any additional protein as I getting that with the soups , and will call my dietician for follow up to make sure I am doing things right, and also I feel hungry a lot however I think its just because I am dead bored with the food, not sure if this is normal or not. Looking forward to hear other peoples experience. Many thanks

Greetings all, I'm seeking some guidance. Here are my stats: Pre-op weight: 269, SW: 255.8, CW: 245.8 Sleeve date: 3/31/22 I want to make sure I am consuming the right amount of food in the right way. After surgery, the protein shakes (Fairlife & Premier) caused diarrhea so I stopped drinking the shakes. Instead, my typical day is: Yogurt 25g protein Tuna/Chicken Salad 12-15g protein Pork or chicken 12-15g protein Water or zero-calorie drink I don't consume more than 1/4 - 1/3 of a cup at a time. It takes me 2 "meals" to finish the yogurt. As you can see from my stats I'm losing very slowly; which is fine as long as I know I'm doing the right thing. Can you please share a typical day of meals? I want to make sure I'm doing the right thing. Thanks in advance

1. Make sure you're eating solids. Things like yogurt and whatnot will just liquify in your stomach and flush through, thus leaving you hungry again. 2. Going along with point #1, don't drink anything during or after meals. Again, liquids will just push any food you eat through. 3. Are you eating a lot of fat? Doesn't take much oil, butter, cream, cheese, etc to get you up to 1400 in a hurry. 4. Follow your plan to a T. Three 25 minute meals, broken down nutritionally with solid foods without liquid. If you're doing this perfectly and your stomach's growling, then call your doctor's office. If your stomach doesn't feel empty, then you're not physically hungry. You're mentally hungry. Surgery's going to get rid of that for some, but for many, it won't. Try to distract yourself, and if you need to, find a therapist to talk to.

Feeling like blah unmotivated impatient this lap band crap is confusing
Shey Ronix posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi everyone! I'm a bandster and got my surgery in Jan 2022. I just got a fill today it's my third one I'm now at 6cc in a 10cc band. My doctor told me because I am tight I need to go on a liquid diet. Can anyone tell me is it normal to feel freaking hungry? I've had soup fat free yogurt water idk if it's more mental hunger or what does this mean the fill didn't do a damn thing this just sucks my son's baptism is in July and I want to loose another 15 pounds by then but I feel this fill isn't gonna do it ? But then I figure of course I'm hungry liquids just go right through and that I will really know if it's tight or not once I start solids..... Any advice suggestions thanks guys Sent from my BE2025 using BariatricPal mobile app -
April 2022 Surgery Buddies

I completely understand. Day 4 through 7 were the most difficult abd emotional days for me, it was hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I made dinner for my family for the 1st time last night (I had done precooking and freezing for them) and that was rough for me. Managed not to cry but its not easy. Listen to your body and rest, you need it. We are healing and not eating. My surgery was 4/14 and I can say it does get better. All I can think about is wanting cream of wheat and cottage cheese but I'm trying to stay greatful that I could add yogurt and v8. You so got this, just take comfort in the fact that you are not alone and we are all here and going through it and ready to support eachother -
protein shakes
liveaboard15 replied to liveaboard15's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
its fine if i add it to greek yogurt and milk but i only add like half a scoop if that. Just doing anything to increase protein amount. But to stuff like broths its disgusting. -
How much calcium??
canadianpopcycle replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hello! My requirement is 1200; however, I have to factor in any calcium I get as well. So I always have a Decaf Earl Grey Latte in the morning (1 cup of Milk), I have 2/3 cup of fairlife milk at breakfast making my oatmeal, plus I have yogurt and cheese at lunch. So I only ever take 1 300mg Tablet because I get so much during the day. Just make sure you take it 2 hour before or after your multivitamin....Calcium and Iron don't get along Hope that helps! -
I started carb counting and restricting the amount of carbs I ate after I went to a Drs appt and only lost barely a half pound. I journal everyday and have My Fitness Pal app. I have lost 10 lbs since 4/8 last Drs appt. I do really well with restricting my carbs when Im disciplined. Ive just started my pre op diet so I am hoping to lose alittle more before surgery day. I was eating low carb, low fat and high protein diet. I eat mostly fish and baby spinach, baked or boiled chicken breasts, salads sometimes. broc and Ill eat alittle cheese at times. I have been now switched over to the preop diet oh and I was previously eating the Ratio Protein yogurt to bump up my protein.

Interesting, I just had to go look at my paperwork again to see if I had a stage 1 and I skipped it lol, I was actually told by my nutritionist to have sips of protein drinks in the hospital and I couldn’t keep it down which I’m not surprised now knowing that some of have protein drinks in stage 2 mine was very a lax transition where it was when you can have protein drinks drink them and if you can handle soups drink them with no timeline until the puréed stage which I’m so hyped for! Glad your having yogurt! -

I'm on stage 2 of liquids which allowed me to add in protein shakes, v8 and yogurt. I'm on that until the 2 week mark. -

Feeling depressed/hopeless on liquid diet
hottdiva27 replied to Vivis's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Drink more fluids. On my liquid preop I was able to have pudding, can you? You need to increase your calories. Broths, jello, pudding, popsicles, melted creamy peanut butter, protein shakes, milk (if you can handle it). I ate up to about 1000 cal. This liquid diet is only meant to help shrink your liver. It’s not to make you lose weight. I know it’s hard. I’m on post op liquid diet. I want food so bad. I don’t know how much more pudding, jello and Greek yogurt I can do but I’m gonna keep doing it because it’s to help me heal safely. Question- if you’re able to lose weight eating healthy and exercising, why are you getting this surgery? Most people, like myself, have been unsuccessful doing that but you seem to have been enjoying it? If it was making you happy why surgery? No judgment I promise, just curious. -
I use fat free Greek yogurt in place of sour cream. I eat a ton of FF Greek yogurt!
-
I tried but I cannot do fat free mayo....I would rather eat none. I tried this succesfully....I use real mayo and some greek yogurt. So in a can of tuna, I put about 1/2 mayo and 1/2 greek yogurt and it tastes pretty good. Much better than the fat free mayo which to me does not taste like mayo at all.

1. Like many people, I weighed more when I left the hospital than when I checked in, due to the IV fluids. The number on the scale is meaningless for at least the first couple of weeks. I see people here all the time who are freaking out that they haven’t lost weight in the first week, but you need to have patience. The first few weeks are all about getting your protein and water. Don’t even look at the scale if it’s going to make you anxious. I lost 70 pounds before surgery. Nobody seemed to notice until I had lost over 100 pounds total (about 2 months after surgery), which was also about the time I had to buy new pants. But I started out really big (BMI over 60), so it might be noticeable more quickly if you have less to lose. 2. I was on liquids for the first week, so options were limited. I mainly had protein shakes, protein soups, sugar free Jello, and sugar free popsicles. In the puréed stage, I ate a lot of triple zero Greek yogurt and puréed refried beans with enchilada sauce (both with protein powder mixed in). 3. I went back to work 11 days after surgery and I felt good. As I lost more weight, I felt great, full of energy even though I was eating very little. Unfortunately, that started to change about a year post-op, and now I feel weak and tired all the time. 4. I went from not really exercising at all to working out every day. My recommendation for starting out is Leslie Sansone videos on YouTube (someone here recommended them to me). I started with 15-minute videos and now I do about an hour every day. I also got a Fitbit and have over 1 year of 10,000 steps per day. It is hard to stay motivated because sometimes I just don’t wanna, but at the same time, it gets easier the more weight you lose and the better shape you get into. This might be controversial, but it’s what works for me: I exercise every day. No days off. At least 30 minutes of cardio. To me, it’s easier keep it up when I tell myself I have to do it every day. Also, I used to work out when I got home from work. Now I work out first thing in the morning to get it out of the way and that’s a game changer. I wear my workout clothes to bed and put my pre-workout supplement on my nightstand. As soon as I wake up, I drink my pre-workout and start exercising.

Today we’re road tripping to NY to pick up my dad’s belongings. Will be on the road a few days so I packed kid, adult, and grandma snacks. Lemon Blueberry cheesecake tarts, spinach ricotta rugelach, chocolate chip cookies, fruit salad, lemon poppyseed muffins, 6lbs of strawberries (because we won’t be home to use them), 3 clams of raspberries, Chex mix, chocolate covered granola bars, clementines, tuna packets, a skyr (for breakfast) 2 Greek yogurt bars, 8 protein shakes, individual salads, turkey, chicken breast, eggs, croutons, applesauce and yogurt pouches, and homemade pickles, zucchini chips and beef jerky. Kids also managed to sneak Reese’s pieces, Reese’s cups, gummy worms, airheads and Cadbury eggs into their luggage. 🤦♀️ I’ll eat again when we stop but today I’ve managed a protein shake, a rugelach a strip of jerky and about half the bag of zucchini chips (so about 2 zucchini!) Thank you all for the condolences, they’re much appreciated. -
Tips & tricks for the pre-op ALL LIQUID DIET!
blackcatsandbaddecisions replied to Vivis's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Totally agree with a few of the suggestions in here- broth soups are vital to get some “savory” in as well. Minute miso and V8 were my friends, and I couldn’t find as many broth based soups as I wanted so I got a little hand held strainer and made my own. That hand held strainer was a godsend for post op as well. I just gave it away to a friend who had surgery last week- felt like passing the baton. 😂 Sugar free popsicles helped as well. The “two good” yogurt was good as well. And finally I tried to stay busy after work! Distracted myself with going shopping, home projects, taking kids to the park, etc. anything to avoid sitting around and craving food. -
I just came across these online from Walmart (has to be shipped) and in my opinion they are EXPENSIVE for what they are but if you're having a hard time getting the protein in its an option I guess if you are unable to do the other suggestions by all the other posters. If you have a Kroger store near you they also have them there but they are in bulk (36 count) and only 1 flavor that I saw. They are called ProSouce Gelatein and there are several flavors besides these two listed below at Walmart online. The Ratio Protein yogurt is much cheaper priced at Walmart and has several flavors, it has 25g of protein. Also at Walmart online BariWise gelatin. Not sure of the other stats on this one but it has 15g of protein
