6 weeks post-op ... what did YOU eat?

At 6 weeks my surgeon released me to everything. There was nothing that I could not try and I did. If it didn't go well I tried another time.
  2. You have to be creative to get your prrotein. My NUT always said don't eat if you are not hungry and you should never be too tight and not be able to eat real food. She also was not worried about getting 60g of Protein once healed. She reminded me that if we ate like we were supposed too, even with real food, you may not get 60g every day. I have followed her word to the tee, had blood work done every 3 months and have not had any problems. I do not drink any protein and didn't after three months. It took a while for my brain to listen!

    Carbs

I read quite a bit about low carbs, and people usually mention 20-30 carbs. Does anyone know if it is bad to have fewer than 20 carbs daily? I usually work out an hour daily, as much as two hours and as few as 45 minutes. It is at a moderate intensity. My diet is often only and egg, a quarter cup of shredded cheese, meat and a Protein Drink or 1 1/2 Protein Drinks. I can only have 1 1/2 ounces of meat for a meal, so it isn't possible to fit much more in. I sometimes get extra carbs if I have chili, or I VERY occasionally have a wasa cracker with Peanut Butter. I get 500-600 calories daily. I am 10 weeks out. Thanks for any advice!

  5. I just got out of the dreaded 3 week stall and it was brutal. I was almost at tears most of the time and it took its toll on me but when I broke it I realized that I was being pretty silly about the whole thing. I would of never lost even close to this much weight without the surgery so I was worried about losing what? ....Three maybe four pounds? If you are truly concerned about it though. Which I was I went back to basics. I went back on the liquid diet. Made sure if anything I got in 50g of protein and 90% of my water. If you choose to eat the pureed stuff just watch for sodium in foods it can tend to hold the water and also vamp up your work out a lil. I broke my stall in about 2 days of doing this. Good luck and don't worry your body does need time for adjustments and you will start to lose again real soon. Good luck!

    Not having success (pre op)

I've been on my pre op diet for 40 days and I haven't been able to control my eating habits. I feel like a failure [emoji24] I did good for the first week I lost 10 pounds and after that I put the 7 back on and haven't lost anything since. The struggle is real I have one more visit before I've met my insurance requirements (total of three dietitian visits) and I feel like I must not be ready for my gastric bypass. I feel horrible. Question do you think I should voluntarily wait another 90 days? Hw 310 Cw 307 Gw 135

    Recovering alone?

I would make it work. Start now with your son making him do alot more to help you. Him climb unto your lap. Maybe let him not sleep in his baby bed that week maybe he can sleep with you or. Maybe it's time for a toddler bed. I know my children were very independent 1 year olds and you have weeks to work at it. Your mom can still help you. I mean a week out I went back to work and work with special needs children and adults and I was fine. I just didn't lift them.

    One year out

I've heard/read that the average is 50 to 60 lbs./year. Or 1-2 lbs. per week. Could be a lot more--or a lot less depending on a lot of different factors.

Please!! I need help with this!!

Thanks so much for your responce!! This is what I am doing keeping a handle on the problem. I go again next week for a follow up. Guess I just thought with all of these bands in this site maybe someone else might have run into this. Thanks for the time to respond!!

    Lifting and calorie intake

Here is my 2 cents worth: I work out 6 days a week, 3 days 1 hr. cardio (HIIT and Medium mixed), and 3 days weights with 30 min moderate cardio. I eat about 1900 cals a day and it breaks out to about 30% carbs, 50% carbs and 20% fats. I found that this is a 40% deficit in cals, based on my activity levels, and have been at same scale weight for 30+ days. I have seen lower fat levels and slow muscle growth, so I am not too concerned. I have 15 lbs. of fat left to lose, and plan on cycling my calories/carbs soon and I feel my scale stall is partially associated to some metabolism slowing. (Been in big calorie deficit for 9 months now) My revision seems to be much looser and allows me to eat much more than many with RNY do, so getting this much food in is only a little challenging with 5 meals a day. I mostly focus on getting in proper protein, and making carbs fibrous, except right after training, so I am not too concerned with the totals values. My fats come from clean sources only, mostly coconut, flax and olive oils, and lean meats, and I feel high fat levels of the right fats is OK, if we can handle it. It has taken me a while to get to this point and a lot of trial and error to get the right fit, and I am sure you will need to do the same. I suggest tracking your diet and any changes and measure the affect every week or so and adjust again as needed. No trainer know you like you. Best on your journey. . .

    11 days post op

I am... Let's see 18 days post op now, and YES! I'm finally seeing the light at the end of the long liquid tunnel, but I was pretty miserable for the past week or so about only having liquids. It does get better, and honestly it inspired me to start adding random things to my protein shakes to make them better. Today I am very proud, I got 70 grams of protein and 500 calories with only 12 carbs which is way more than previous days. The problem in currently having is very difficult/hard BMs which is not very fun. Finally moving on from liquids only on Wednesday and the first item up is Eggface's Ricotta bake!

    Mushy vs. liquid

Hey all, 9.5 days post op and fealing prety good. 19 lbs lost already! Here is my question for all of you; I started to introduce mushy foods today i.e. mashed potatos, pureed scrambled eggs, thinned out oatmeal ect. I am supposed to be on a liquid diet for three weeks but i sure am enjoying the mushies. What diets did your doctors have you guys on? when did you start eating pureed and mushy foods? When did you start eating solid foods? Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Mushy vs. liquid

Hi, I had my surgery on 5/22. I had to do clear liquids for the first week. I am now on the second week and I can have full liquids. Next week I can have soft foods for 1 week and then the next week I can eat whatever I want. I am eating a lot of the same foods as you and I feel fine as long as I don't eat too fast. I think you should be ok. Congrats on the 19 pounds!!
  14. Are you taking liquid Tylenol? I only had perscription pain meds in the hospital. At home I took liquid Tylenol every 4 hours for probably a week to stay ahead of the pain.
  15. Hello everyone, I am so glad that I have joined the losers bench as of Dec 3. When i first came out of surgery I was in so much pain, I had a H hernia repaired and with that and the surgery I was in severe pain. It ses like it ook forever for them to hook up the morphine pump. I had woke up before they got me to recovery. I was screaming and saying what have I done, I should have never done this, will somebodyplease help me. I can look back on it and laugh now but in the beginning it was not funny at all. When we got in the recovery room, there was about ten more people out of whatever type of surgery they had but they laid there quietly. Finally one nurse said, Your room is ready are you ready to go to it I said yes!!!. Another nicer and understanding nurse bent over my bed as she was injecting the pain killer said, madame, I know you is in a lot of pain, you just had major surgery. Not only was you sleeved but your h hernia was repaired, the incision is very close to the heart but small. She said, she had the lapband ( she was slim) and that I chose the best option because the sleeve was better and she wish she was sleeved. That each day will get better, I calm down then and she was right. I went into surgery at 7 and remember it was about 10 when I got to my room. My husband was already in there. MY mom and others visit I slept most of the day. Around 2 the nurse walked me and again around 5. I walked alone at 8 and felt so much better. Sore but better. The more I walk and sit up in bed the better I felt so the gas could pass. I went home the next day. Take my advice presleevers, walk and sit on the side of bed much as posssible so the gas pain want hurt so bad. AS of today Dec8, I still have one incision on my right side that hurts but I HAVE NOT HAD NO PAIN MEDS TODAY SO FAR AND ONLY TWICE YESTERDAY. Everyone heals different. The key is getting fluids and proteins in.. It is a challenge but I try to sip throughout the day. Since I had no pain meds feel okay, I am driving today alone.. Need to do some shopping. Chicken broth feels good to the stomach. I was taking off all my meds but one high blood pressure meds. That will be soon. I am not buying a scale because I am not going to be on the scale daily. I will wait until my two weeks check up and then buy one lol. I am so excited!!! Best of luck to you all. Got to get moving too much energy to sit around the house To God be the Glory. I thank everyone that prayed and thought of me on my surgery date!!!
  16. I'm two weeks post op (Monday) and I still have meds to take for the h pylori bacteria (I think that's how it's spelled). I haven't been taking them as regularly because I have to crush them and open the capsule and take the powder. I need suggestions. I've contacted the dr just about every day since I've gotten my meds and they say I have to suck it up. Has anyone had this problem? Did you take the pill whole and felt fine after? 17. So, I keep hearing how when we are not losing wt, we are losing inches...I dont understand how we lose inches, when we are not losing weight??....I also dont understand how we dont lose weight when we are not eating calories, it seems to defy everything I know about losing weight...calories in and calories out...Know I hear sugar alchohols can stall weight loss?? How, if we are only eating 800 calories a day...I dont get it....Can someone please clarify this for me if you understand it...thanks so much...
  18. How we lose inches when we are not losing weight - muscle vs. fat. Rapid weight loss is the result of your body metabolizing fat - body measurements are shrinking. High Protein diet promotes the addition of lean muscle - one pound of muscle is considerably smaller (less volume) than one pound of fat. So you can reach a point where the "weight" of the fat being metabolized by the body is equal to the "weight" of the muscle being added by the body = no weight loss. But one pound of muscle has less "volume" than one pound of fat = inches are being lost even though weight is stable. Sugar alcohol - I know that stalls are sometimes attributed to consumption of sugar alcohol. There are some that believe a more likely cause is the higher amount of carbohydrates commonly found in foods that contain sugar alcohol. Here is a link to one of the better articles that I've read on sugar alcohol. It does a good job of explaining what sugar alcohols are and their pros and cons. http://www.ynhh.org/about-us/sugar_alcohol.aspx I'm off to jury duty. You guys have a great day!

    Exercise questions

Hi, I think that is a bit excessive too. I have been losing weight steadily for the past 2 1/2 months (still very new) as I have been losing I have gained oodles of energy. I workout about 5 times a week now but not for an hour each time. The days when I am really busy I try to do higher intensity exercise and on the weekends I do longer walks. I think you should just try and do as much as you can and you will see that you will soon feel like doing more.

    The Journey Begins

I have such a similar story. Also put on major pounds after stopping the smoking. Also have a very bad right knee due to arthritis and all the extra weight. I'm 54 and have three grandchildren who I cannot keep up with between the extra weight and the knee pain. I also have hypertension and my first 'intervention' was at the age of 13 with my first attempt at Weight Watchers. I also got control of my weight at certain times in my life but could never keep it off. I came close in the early '90s but a bad second marriage sent me right back to eating badly and it's been downhill ever since. Now for the good news....I was banded on January 14th and as of today (I weight in once a week each Sunday) I'm down 51 lbs. My knee is still giving me trouble, it may be beyond rehab at this point but even if I get a replacement, the lower weight will help me have a successful outcome. As far as the hypertension, I went from 90 mgs. of nifedipine and 300/25 mgs. of Avalide to only 1 med daily....20 mgs. of lisinopril. Good luck on your journey, I know you will be a success.
  21. I met my fist goal. I am thrilled. I have lost 50 lbs so far. I am 2 weeks post op and done 30 lbs since that morning. So excitrd

    Gastric sleeve to bypass

I'm very disappointed in your doctors. My center stressed, at each and every informational meeting, that if you have even mild regular heartburn bypass is the best route to take. They should have you taking omeprazole (maybe not til your 3 week check up) - that may help. It's taken for six months to prevent ulcers. If it helps, stay on it. That's what I was on pre-RNY for my reflux. Hopefully you're on the mend soon
  23. So yesterday I got my first fill. Really not that big of a deal...it didn't hurt all that bad I think it was more of the mental part of it. (I had no clue what to expect next time I know ) So I had to be poked three times the surgeon couldn't get the needle into the port because it isn't sitting flat and because of scarring. I have a bit a bruise but I don't notice much. I was liquids yesterday and puree today and regular food starting tomorrow. The injected 3cc's and I go back in two weeks to have another 1-2cc's put in. I can't wait for this to all really start. I have only lost one more pound since my follow-up after surgery...I'm super disappointed with that fact considering I have not eaten anything bad since and I am eating a lot less.

    first fill - 3 pokes

How are you both doing a few days after the first fill? How are you feeling? How is your restriction? I had my first fill on Thurs, 9/18 as well. I am actually only about 4 weeks post-op, so I am lucky that he did it. He had no trouble getting the needle in, which was also lucky given the fact that he said scar tissue is the main reason the first fill is usually not until about 6 weeks post-op. I must say that this is definitely a roller coaster as far as emotions go. And also definitely trial-and-error. I get hungry easily about 2 hours after 1 full cup of soft foods, but if I eat more solid foods I throw up. I also noticed that I think I am more emotionally attached to food than I thought. I am a bit depressed about not being able to consume a whole meal and enjoy the foods that I used to, even though I know this is the best choice I could have made for myself. I guess you can never know what this is going to be like until you actually experience it. It is definitely going to take time to be able to gauge my body/hunger and also get my head straight and deal with the fact that my whole life has changed and thus my habits need to as well! Hope you are feeling well and enjoying the weekend! =)

    first fill - 3 pokes

Yes, I have noticed that I am quite sore over my port area. But I wasn't sore at all when I got the fill. I sure hope the soreness goes away soon. It feels like I pulled a muscle. The fill was just over a week ago, but I didn't get very much restriction at all. Luckily, from reading these boards, I didn't have my hopes up that the first fill would give me much. So I am still trying to behave myself with the eating and keeping my fingers crossed for the next fill.
