Kinda Feeling Down About My Weight Loss
cab0ad posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know everyone is differnt and will lose at a different pace. yada yada yada.... But here I am 10 days post op and I'm seeing everyone is postin losses well into the double digits! I have only lost 2 stinking pounds from my pre-op weight! 2 pounds, in 10 days right out of surgery? That seems so abnormally slow. It worries me knowing that everyone seems to hit a stall at 3 weeks. at my rate I will only lose 3 pounds before that stall happens. I feel like this surgery has not been a success. How can I have lost only 2 pounds? I eat 3 times a day. My meal is one of the following: 1 ounce string cheese, 1/2-1 egg, 1/4-1/2 cup cottage cheese, 3 ounces yogurt. I get around 60 grams of Protein a day. I'm not up to 64 ounces of liquid a day but i always get at least 40 ounces. sometimes 50. I eat my 3 Vitamins a day. what am I doing wrong? I'm very happy everyone else is being so successful but I'm worried at the slowness of my weight loss. This should be the time I'm losing a lot. -
I was going to suggest Quest protein bars as a replacement for cookies, but I see the above post from Therealmeishere beat me to it. Like anything else moderation is the key. Maybe consider 3 oz of plain Greek yogurt mixed with chocolate or strawberry protein powder which will be like a pudding. Gotta stay away from the real cookies, you have done too much hard work to move backwards now. FYI your after pic us beautiful, but then again your before pic is beautiful too

I was sleeved may 19th. I don't know how long I'm out. I think I'm starting my fourth week on Monday. Anyway, I got approved to move to puréed foods at my last visit. I've been having baby food, eggs, tuna with mayo and mash potatoes- well very little of it maybe an oz or so. Comfortable with these but not easy. This weekend I decided to cook my family a middle eastern influenced dinner. I smashed the hell out of some so I can eat it, but holy moly!!!! I thought death came for me. I had this tight feeling in my chest. I couldn't breathe. All of a sudden I also got bubble guts. I thought it was the end of me. I laid down, sat up, walked around and got through it. I drank a sip of Water after 20 minutes and even started to feel better. You would think I learned my lesson. NO! The next day, I started thinking maybe I ate too fast, didn't chew enough or I ate too big of a serving and decided to redo it. Well how else I'm I going to learn? Huh! Omg!!!!!! I did it to myself again., really bad. This time praying I didn't hurt my insides. Yea, I know. It was stupid!!! But here is the thing... I keep reading all of the different eating phases people have post surgery. So many surgeons differ in eating plans that I thought maybe mine could be different. Lesson learned staying on smooth foods, baby foods and yogurt for at least another 3.5 weeks. Don't think I'll be ready before then. No longer want to experiment! Anyone else try something similarly stupid? Lorri

My doc says at day 3 I can try Greek Yogurt, etc. with my small sips if Water going well, I still have some discomfort and am a little gunshy about moving to yogurt. At the same time, my body needs nutrients. How soon did you all start in yogurt? Is it really just trial and error? Thanks all!!

So I started my antibiotics for the H-Pylori today and there's 3 different pills I have to take twice daily. The pharmacist said that I need to eat something the equivelant to 3 slices of bread with my pills or else they won't be absorbed and I will throw up. I ate a granola bar and some greek yogurt and still felt a little queasy. So I ate a peice of french bread. I was doing so well on my diet and losing weight before surgery and I feel like now I don't know what to do. Does anybody have any ideas or has anyone been through this? :/

I loved all my cream soup options, but other things I drank were drinkable yogurt, diluted and pureed split pea soup, protein shakes doctored with Mio and Dasani flavor drops, PB2, pureed peaches and mangos, and Torani syrups (nearly unlimited flavor options) . I also added unflavored protein powder to..... French onion soup base, miso soup, egg drop soup, lobster bisque, beef broth, chicken broth, Swansons tortilla soup base, hot and sour soup base.

Preparing For Gastric Sleeve Surgery
Thomas CPA replied to waterlover's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
women's one a day has Iron, you want to get about 18 mg/day (at least for men presume same for women). Forget cleanses, that will happen if you change diet. You want to reduce fat to make liver smaller so they can move it to get to stomach. At least use 2% milk or fat free, same with cottage cheese and there is even fat free cheese but at least change to low fat dairy. Wheat bread instead of white bread. More chicken, fish, turkey (white meats less in fat) keep some red for iron and other benefits. Vitamins - B12 is also important for anemia, do not get B complex very little if any B in them and you want B12 and B1. Cut down on juices and sugar in coffee in fact you should reduce caffeine so you can get used to it after surgery when you will initially be on herbal tea. You will be able to go back to coffee but surgeons usually want stomach to heal and best to reduce to lower risk of ulcers - smaller stomach you have to protect it. Find a Protein mix you like for shakes, you can use milk instead of Water and putting in half banana gives the vanilla some flavor and body. Protein important after surgery as rapid weight loss will cause you to lose protein and muscle mass as well as the fat. Exercise - do some resistance (weight) training to build muscle, you will need it. building muscle will help fill arms to reduce sagging skin. Biotin is supposed to be good for hair loss, usually comes in around month 3 postop. Beware of buying lots of clothes, just buy a little at at time as you will undergrow them quickly and have to keep replacing - may want to shop at goodwill and save money. I leveled off at month 4-5. Don't fret over stalls, they will happen and remember you will only lose 50% of excess over course of year. If you weigh 200 ideal for you height is 120, you can expect to lose 50% of 80 pound excess or 40 pounds. Walking good, took about 3 weeks to get back to gym and 3 weeks after that to get stamina/endurance back to last for an hour or so training. You mentioned yogurt - use either low fat or switch to greek which is higher in protein. Again, probiotic and cleanses probably not necessary but talk with doctor. After surgery for about 6 weeks you will need to avoid things with seeds, like strawberries and things that could lodge into open wound inside of stomach until it heals, after that period you are pretty much open to eat normally. I was on solids in week three, just chewed a lot. Learn to eat slowly over a longer period, yes your food will get cold but you are going to have to get used to that also. -

The scale did not move today boo hooo! I did really well yesterday too and ate less than 900 calories plus exercised. Oh well I guess its just making up for the days I ate ice cream and still lost a pound. Or maybe I need to eat more calories to lose? Ive read some ppls posts about that, the 'starving body' syndrome or something. :cry Hmm well Im going to keep on with eating healthy today at a reduced calorie level and exercise and see what happens tomorrow. And no Sugar today!! 8:00 am Breakfast: Atkins shake + 1 scoop Unjury. 10:00 am Snack: SF choc. pudding (chocolotaholic). 12:30 pm Lunch: 1 1/2 peices stone ground whole wheat/grain toasted crustless bread, 2/3 cup sloppy joe meat, 1 activa blueberry yogurt. 6:00 pm Supper: 2 instant Cream of wheat, SF choc. pudding Water: 80 oz. Vitamins: 2 Tbs. Liquid multi, 1 calcium chew, 1500 mcg biotin Exercise: cleaned my entire house Goal: I purposely ate more carbs today, I want to see what effect it has on my losing weight tomorrow. Exercise tomorrow on the treadmil. Stick to my no sugar challenge for 3 more days!

I'm post op 4 weeks. I've lost 23 pounds since surgery. Over the last week and a half my stomach has grown more and more sensitive. There are very few things that I can eat without throwing up. I'm basically back on full liquids and even then, I throw up. Today I was only able to keep down 2 oz of cream Soup and 1 oz of yogurt. I'm also having trouble taking my Vitamins. I'm taking Zofran for nausea but it only helps a little. I've called the doctor's office twice and the nurse says that this is normal, but I'm not sure it is. This morning, I had to pull over three times during my commute to work and all I had consumed was a few sips of Water. Thoughts?

I drink at least 1 glass of skim milk a day. As far as the sugar I try to stay with sugar free stuff and you have to watch the more refined sugars that are in desserts. I eat greek yogurts that have sugar in them and that hasn't bothered me at all. but when I tried a spoonful of icing that was a totally different story. Let's just say I won't be doing that ever again.

10days post surgery- Tips on soft foods needed!
abordenster replied to Hayesc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery January 22nd. The third day I was tired and cried about what did I do, I can't eat pizza again. I think when I didn't feel good is when I would eat comfort food. So of course I didn't feel good after surgery and couldn't eat to feel better. So my sleeve likes nonfat yogurt, refried beans with a bit of low fat mozzarella, soups, mashed potatoes and shakes. I tried salmon that was soft it didn't like it. If it's mushy it seems ok. Everything on the nutritionists list for week 2 and 3 works but if I jump ahead it definitely doesn't work. So nonfat Greek yogurt may be my new comfort food. -
Post Sleeve Recipes & Support (1+ year out)
Domika03 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi eveyyone, I'm post sleeve (almost 3 years out). I'd love to hear from post sleevers & find out what everyone is eating these days. There seems to be a lot of focus on pre surgery & immediately thereafter as you feel that's when you need the most support. I beg to differ. At this point, most of us know what we're supposed to do, what we're supposed to be eating, how much, etc... BUT, we don't talk much about how those lousy bad habits creep back in during the most stressful times of our lives, and how we can handle it. I was laid off 6 weeks ago. Yup, right before the holidays. By now I understand that stress is my trigger for making bad choices. Isn't it for most of us? :-( Nonetheless, I've made many. I now find myself with an additional 10 pds & I can feel it & see it. I still remember after I had lost all the weight, how I "swore" I would never let myself go up more than 2 or 3 pds. Humm, what happened? Let's focus on the positive & talk about going back to basics. What is everyone eating to maintain their weight loss? What's a day in your life look like? Do you have a favorite recipe? Do you have restrictions on what you can eat? I find that I am now much more lactose intolerant, so my original "go-to" foods like greek yogurt is now not such a good idea Come on, share your favorite foods / recipes.. And gooo.........- 4 replies

2 1/2 weeks out from surgery. Food ideas please!
Band07 replied to ChattyChatterton's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had mini bypass 4/23. Right now I pretty much hate all food. Nothing sounds good and I'm struggling to get anything in. I tried 1 scrambled egg with some cheese for the first time tonight. Besides that I eat yogurt, cottage cheese, peanut butter and my favorite right now is blended chicken noodle soup. Iv also had mashed potatoes and steamed carrots that were good. I'm thinking I'll try to add some runny refried beans later in the week. I had a few saltine crackers today with butter and just more less turned them into paste in my mouth to keep from throwing up and they helped a lot. I'm on antibiotics for pneumonia that I developed in both lungs after surgery and they make me very sick which is making everything much harder for me. -
Help...I I'mnot losing weight..What have I done wrong?
medicine1girl posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the gastric sleeve done June 5, 2013. I seem to be at a stand still and can't seem to lose anymore weight. I have been at the same weight now for a couple months. I know stress can sometimes play into it but... I watch a coworker lose weight so easy but I haven't been able to. I can't hardly eat more than a few bites at a time, I graze most of the time. I have a hard time getting all the Vitamins and supplements in as well as the Water. I do use unflavored Protein powder with yogurt smoothies and Protein Bars. Can anyone help me figure out what I am doing wrong? -
Those items were suggested to me by my bariatric team. They specify it can be either regular, 98% fat free, or Healthy Request. The drinkable yogurt is Dannon Light n' Fit Carb and Sugar Control. And the sugar-free carnation instant breakfast is used for making "power milk" with dry milk and skim milk. My daily protein goal is 60-80g. Thank you for reminding me of the fiber supplement. That was listed on the next stage.

I used to eat such good things...now I feel like I'm living on scrambled eggs, deli meats, cheese, and yogurt! I was doing great at 6 weeks out, now at almost 10 weeks my poor stomach is having such issues. I had an endoscopy almost 2 weeks ago that showed severe gastritis (irritation) and so many things just don't sit well anymore. A lot of the foods I depended on make me sick now. I'm really hoping this will resolve over time because I'm getting really frustrated. I'm down 46 pounds since my surgery, and 70 from my high, so that's the good news. I just hope I don't have to deal with this part much longer...

Which fruits to have?
kyleebean replied to Lindsayellen93's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't had a problem with any fruit. Early on I ate applesauce, bananas, canned peaches and pears that were canned in Water and not syrup~ so no added sugar. Now I can eat almost anything. I eat blueberries and strawberries daily (with yogurt, almonds, flax and chia seeds) I had watermelon the past couple of days and it was fine. Apples can sometimes be tricky for me I don't chew them enough. Soft fruit like peaches, pears, plums are all good! I haven't had any adverse reactions (Ie. dumping) with fruit. BUT, I have had candy that didn't work out so great! -
Feeling paranoid about feeling hungry
darnlochnessmonster posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today I am 6 days post-op. For the previous 5 days I haven't had any real desire to eat or drink anything. No real appeal in eating, and in some cases, thinking about foods made me feel a little queasy. Today - I feel hungry. I had a 5.3oz yogurt for breakfast (took about 90 minutes to eat, I think from about 7:30 to 9am). It is not just after 10:30 and my tummy and mouth say "eat!" Logically, I know that I have only consumed 120 calories today and I need to continue to eat and sip small amounts to heal but a part of me is thinking "This is how it starts all over again. You're hungry all the time. You won't stop eating. You'll gain every ounce back and THIS WAS FOR NOTHING." This paranoia is compounded by the fact that I had, what I believe, was my first case of extremely mild dumping syndrome. I had been having trouble finding any drinks appealing and thought a very watered down bit of pineapple juice would do the trick - I was right. I had about 1/2 cup pineapple juice to 2 cups water over the course of a few hours. FOr those who don't know, a serving of pineapple juice can exceed 30 grams of sugar. I expect I may have had about 10. I've now become obsessed with the idea that my pineapple juice has reawakened the sugar demon and all is lost. I know that sounds incredibly dramatic, but I've noticed over the last few days that these kinds of fears keep sprouting up. I can't shake this fear that this isn't a fresh start, just a pit stop on the same ol', same ol. Ugh. Anyone else dealing with similar feelings? How did you cope? -
Hi. I was moved up to stage 3 diet on Wednesday which is creamed soups, puréed chicken (barf) and other stuff that makes me feel sick just thinking about. This has got to be the hardest stage because I don't know who the F could possibly purée a chicken and actually eat it, and if you have I have much respect for you. As for my premier protein shakes those make me gag now too. All I really intake is a yogurt and an isopure or two and lots of water. I am down 30lbs in 2 weeks so I'm not complaining about that it's just... this sucks. Next week I believe is tuna and chicken salad thank god. You know it's bad when your dying for a nice big salad lol. Sometimes when my head hunger is out of control I think to myself that I could have just died fat and happy. Ugh end rant. Ps. Please no lectures.

I love Greek yogurt, also I buy the tuna packets that are only 2.5oz perfect for me. I but the target brand white albacore and it is like 75 cents cheaper for each packet. What kind of food do you like? I am a Mexican food junky, which is great because I can make a ton of quick, easy, small meals for myself that are super high in protein, low in carbs and so yummy. If you like Mexican food let me know and I will give you some super yummy recipes. Good luck
