Anyone else loosing extremely slow after revision? I'm 15 days post op and I'm only 8lbs down!!!! -
14 lbs...31 lbs... 24lbs... what's wrong with me?
Leena replied to HYCIERRA's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Im 11 days post op and 10 pounds from surgery day weight. In the hospital I gained 23 pounds of Water weight. So I lost that 23 pounds of water and 10 pounds of my actual weight. Im 5'5" tall. I was 198.2 and am now 188. I'm also a revision so I expect a slower loss. Im also a lower BMI patient and have less to loose. If I lost 20 pounds in 10 days I'd worry. You really have to go by your body, bmi and where you're loosing the weight. -
Ya know I had that feeling! My doctors office told me on day 1 it was covered now by them as of just a few months ago but something is just not sitting right with me. I had a feeling it wasn't. I don't want the bypass. Now I'm really bummed ???? So did you pay for your sleeve out of pocket? I may end up just doing just that myself. Thanks for your information Hello Cladd, my husband is active duty Navy. As you know, we have Tricare prime. I had the sleeve done Dec 30, 2013. And BC of almost 2yrs of a stricture and acid reflux, I had to have a revision to GBP on Dec 4, 2015. Unless something changed recently, they pay for the sleeve. Hope this helps and sorry if this is a repeat answer, I didn't read the entire posts. Good luck:)

Hello everyone - I am a newbie to this site and am looking for some help with Aetna Question for those of you with Aetna seeking revision from LB to VSG - how did you get Aetna to pay? My band has a severe prolapse (documented with GI, showing that barium just sits on my espohagus causing reflux and spasms. Originally had lost 130 lbs and have regained 30. When I got banded in 4/2010 Aetna approved the proceedure in 48 hours. And I was very happy with the band and my weight loss. Flash forward to 5/2012 when I began being unable to eat solid Protein, but could eat things like saltines with out any problem! Made an appt for a my first ever fill 3cc and have been so unhappy since. The doc removed the fill completely in 6/2012 and then sent me for an GI in 7/2012 and called me last week and doctor is suggesting revision to sleeve. Think it would be best for me as I have battled nausea and reflux, for quite sometime now. Thinking that he must feel that my case is valid and Aetna will approve, but I am worried. So - those of you with Aetna who were able to revise, please tell me your experience and what your approval process looked like. Did Aetna treat the revision from LB to VSG as a new surgery? Meaning did you have to requalify for the surgery or were you able to just get the revision to VSG approved with proof of the problem? Hoping that they will approve soon as I have pain and the doctor is concerned about my needing the procedure done as an emergency. Also, were you able to have the LB removed and the VSG done at the same time? How long were you in the hospital for? Appreciate any feedback or advice from those of you who have been there and done that! Hoping for the best and preparing for the worst when it comes to dealing with Aetna!! Tori

Yep, I'm doing great and the revision went very smoothly! When they got in there they found that my stomach had herniated up into my chest cavity which is obviously very abnormal and could have been the source for some of my pain. Surgery was supposed to be about an hour and a half and it took them a total of four hours to get my stomach pulled back down to the right place and then of course do the bypass. When I got out of surgery I was in a lot of pain and the next day was in tons of pain but ever since that third day things have gotten better and better. I have no pain with swallowing anymore and I'm eating more solid food now then I have in 2 years!! I feel great, have tons of energy, am doing great in class and my whole future looks 100x brighter now. I can't even begin to describe how happy I am that I did this, it's already drastically changed my life and it's only been a month! I've also lost 20 pounds since pre-op so that's a cool bonus! I'm progressing well and was just cleared for exercise which is exciting since I actually have the energy to go to the gym they keep telling me this is the part of recovery where you have the least energy but I think that I was in so much pain before that this feels great and if it really gets EVEN better I just don't know what I'll do with myself lol I'm back to the old straight A kickin butt student that I was before I had surgery I keep acing quizzes and exams, doing great in my lab (even though it's 3 hours with no air conditioning, sitting down, eating, or drinking allowed!) and am finishing all the homework early, heck I'm even back to having time to re-org all my notes..I don't sleep all the time so I just have all this extra time, it's CRAZY! My mom asked me why I think I'm doing so well in my classes because she's seen me struggle for my B's over these last few years and I could honestly tell her it's because I feel so good, we both cried. I just never thought this was possible, it amazes me every single day. YAY!!!!!

I posted a few days ago in post-op fourm and got the suggestion to post here as well. Here is the link to my original post http://www.verticals...ss/#entry710830 Basically, has anyone else suffered from gastroparesis as a result of surgery? My doctor's seem to think that it will only last for a few months. Hopefully, my stomach is just taking longer to "wake up". There is a small chance that it may be permanent and have to revise to gastric bypass. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Please let me know. Thanks -Paige

Hi. What do you mean revision from your bypass? What did they do ? -
Well the time has come, pre op diet starts tomorrow for 2 weeks, surgery is on 29th May. This is a sleeve revised to Omega loop Bypass (otherwise none as mini gastric bypass). The emotions have kicked in and started to feel very nervous.

Acid reflux despite Prilosec?
revision in TX replied to kyleebean's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Kylebean, I had a revision from band to bypass in Nov 2012; I had had SEVERE reflux and esophogeal distention in my band prior to bypass surgery. During my surgery, the doctor "oversewed" my hiatal hernia (which I had for YEARS) and I still had heartburn immediately post-op. But, by about 3-4 weeks post-op, all heartburn was gone. I can't say I NEVER have heartburn now on occassion, but it is rare and it is usually my own fault because I overate. I am still on Protonix, but I am trying to go off it and/or only take it when I have heartburn for several days in a row....which, so far, I haven't. I don't know much about the "after-effects" of the sleeve, because I don't know anyone who has had it, but MOST people I know with a band have pretty bad reflux/heartburn; however, most bypass patients I know do NOT have it. I guess this isn't much help, but I think it shows that everyone is different and that, although you have it now, you may "get over it" as you heal from surgery. Five weeks out is not that far; you still will have a lot of healing between now and, say, 6 months or a year. Don't lose hope, but if you don't start seeing SOME improvement, definitely follow-up with your PCP or surgeon. You're doing GREAT!!! -

I was banded in 2008. For the revision was in the hospital for 2 nites. I had no issues. I'm a pain weenie but this was no problem. I have also been nervous that I will fail on this because I had such limited success with the band. But I am older and hopefully a little wiser now and I prepared for this one differently. I was too cavalier before. Now I'm much better prepared and committed to the changes required for success. -
Nana I've only lost 20 but my port flipped the week after surgery and didn't have the revision until december. So you're not in last place I must say that I have found my stride the past month though and the weight is finally coming off.

Hi Candle, Losing weight is hard and you absolutely deserve to claim every pound you have lost by any method. This is they way I would do it, but feel free to re-post if you don't feel this is appropriate: If you and everyone else agrees, I think we should use our absolute highest weight and weight on day of surgery as our benchmarks. Name: Frangipani Weight loss from day of surgery: 81 lbs Total weight loss: 87 lbs Name: Candle Weight loss from day of surgery: 81 lbs Total weight loss: 111 lbs Also, I realized that my total was off by one pound in my initial posting, so I have revised it. Stacy, welcome!! I am a revision, and the reason was I lost some weight with the band (through my own blood, sweat and tears - no help from the BAND) but just like any other diet that never worked once I stopped doing the right things the weight piled back on so fast I didn't know what happened! So I revised to the sleeve through lots of suggestions from some folks. Thanks to them I finally have a tool I know I can work with and keep the weight off. It's really hard to explain, you just have to be there, know what I mean? Do some searches here by "band vs. sleeve" or "revision". Also check out our Band to Sleeve revisions page. You will find a great deal many folks here who have once been banded and are now loving sleeved life. http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/forum/13-band-to-sleeve-revisions/ Good luck!!!

lachica39 replied to christasha's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi ladies, its been awhile since I last posted. I seen the doc. today and decided to have my band removed. I was scheduled for port revision in april and the week of surgery changed my mind. I should be having surgery in the next few weeks. I feel its the best choice. The past year and a half have been difficult, I was vomiting, burping excessively, coughing and basically unhappy with the whole thing. I'm still taking my Water aerobics class and have lost 10 pds. I'm getting stronger and now taking classes on saturday. they can vary from kickboxing, zumba, ect. ladies keep up the good work. Sandy -
Happy 2 Year Bandiversary Merry Losers!
sghatl replied to christasha's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Just an update. I had my band removed on April 6 and revised to a Gastric Bypass at the same time. This was the best thing I ever did for myself. I am so happy with the results and realize now that I should have done this a year ago. I had trouble with the band since day 1. I had a lot of scar tissue built up around the band and it was rubbing against my liver. I am enjoying life so much right now. I am sleeping through the night which I haven't done in over a year with the reflux and pb'ing every night. It even gave me pneumonia once. And I can EAT. I am having to be careful because I am od'ing on fruits and vegetables which I could not eat the entire time with the band with the exception of bananas and pureed veggies. I have been able to eat everything I have tired without any issues. I love my bypass. I haven't lost much since surgery (20 pounds) but I am near the end of my journey. It's been a long 3+ years but so worth it. -
They have solu-tabs, but my insurance gave me grief (they paid for the whole revision surgery but gave me grief about the ant-acid). ....So I asked the pharmacist what would be similar and comes in a tiny pill and he found something for me. It's been a life saver.

Revision denial by Anthem BCBS
dazedinks posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
After 4 months of crossing off requirements for my surgery center and my insurance company I was denied. The reason was one weight loss surgery per lifetime. That sounds pretty final to me. Has anyone else had this happen and then was approved after an appeal? My lapband kept tightening on me and then I would have to get an unfill then refill and repeat. The last time when i was getting refilled I developed GERD and could not get filled to proper restriction because the GERD was too awful. Thank you in advance with any info. Jen -
Revision denial by Anthem BCBS
CurvyCakes replied to dazedinks's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Jen I suggest having your surgeon do a peer to peer review with your insurance company. Many that were denied were able to get approved after the peer to peer. Sometimes coding is an issue too. Although bypass is a weight loss surgery revision most times isn't for weight loss but more so to fix a complication of surgery itself. Best of luck to you. Severe GERD is no joke!! I'm being revised from sleeve to RNY due to GERD. I have BCBS as well. -
I'm having a revision I had a sleeve 3 years ago. A week from now I'm getting bypassed. Is week good to stop smoking pot? I'm nervous because I smoked. I stopped as soon as I started my liquid and had to stop all herbs.

Arm Lift Revision
Threetimesacharm replied to shellbell125's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I personally have had an arm lift in January 2013 and had great results. I have had other plastic surgery where I feel like you that they did not remove enough skin in the first place. Having consulted with another PS he did say that with bariatric patients you really have to be aggressive when removing the skin. It looks like your PS was not aggressive enough. If you can go to someone else I would, otherwise definitely I would go for a revision.
