October Surgery Roll Call
Lizzziee replied to Panda333's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I knew i was not a great candidate for sleeve because of reflux but I was thinking RNY because I didn't understand what MGB was. My surgeon suggested Mini Gastric bypass. I believe he prefers it because there is only one anastamosis and I'm thinking any time you can do a simpler surgery there is less risk of complications and that seemed like a good thing to me. After I researched it a bit, I was happy with his recommendation. -
October Surgery Roll Call

I am getting a Mini Gastric Bypass with Dr. Jalil Illan Fraijo at Bariatric Pal MX On October 1st -
no - RNY is different. It's a gastric (i.e., stomach) bypass - although a small part of the small intestine is bypassed with the RNY, too. The DS has a sleeve stomach + most of the small intestine bypassed. converting from VSG (sleeve) to DS is very straightforward. VSG is essentially phase 1 of the DS - so you already have that. They'd just add the intestinal bypass part of it (phase 2) to do your DS. conversion from RNY to DS is very complicated. They have to take down the RNY, then do a sleeve stomach, and then do the intestinal bypass. Not many surgeons do this surgery.

Fight, fight, fight and fight
SeattleLady replied to SeattleLady's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
The latest, my GERD is getting better by my change in eating habits. Most days, I feel like a perpetual science experiment! I am afraid to eat. I don't want to have acid. My first visit to the nutritionalist is this week. I will have a clear plan at that point. If I am revised? It will occur in late March. Time will surely tell! I've lost 83 pounds, but can eat more and seem to be losing very slow. I told my PA I would reevaluate at my 1 year post-op appt. I'm almost 7 months post-op and close to going below a 40 BMI, so not sure if that could interfere with having a revision. I still have diabetes and take BP medicine.

Hi Mike, im Sarah, 11 days out of RNY gastric bypass in New York
-
^^ what he (she?) said. And yes - a sleeve-to-DS conversion is easy, since you already have a sleeved stomach (DS'ers have a sleeved stomach plus an intestinal bypass). It's a pretty straightforward conversion - they just add the intestinal part since you've already had the VSG part. An RNY-to-DS conversion is much more complicated.

I'm not hungry... I want food.
JnGalt52 replied to NagathaChristie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm over 8 1/2 years out from my Gastric Bypass. lost over 100 lbs and have kept it off. Along with the handfuls of medications I use to take daily. I'm rarely hungry now. Food smells and tastes good. The trick is to share meals... buy meals you can save and nuke later. Eat small amounts and STOP eating once your fill the least bit full. Find what works for you and keep to that regimen. -
Check this picture out. (https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/treatment-tests-and-therapies/bpdds-weightloss-surgery) 1. The stomach is sleeved. 2. The small intestine is mostly bypassed to the larger intestine which causes less of the food you eat to be absorbed. (Malabsorption) You are forced to eat less due to the size of the stomach. What you can eat, not much is able to be used by the body. I'm not a surgeon, but I would think its possible to switch from a sleeve to a DS as you've done step 1 already. Just need to do step 2. I'm sure others will help explain things more and cover what I missed here.

Revision from Gastric Sleeve to. ?
catwoman7 replied to Fluffymom67's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
people with acid reflux usually revise to RNY. It usually improves - if not outright cures - reflux. -
No problems. Just want to make sure that I communicated that from what I have been told and personal experience there is no dumping syndrome with DS surgery. I did an experiment after my RNY to DS revision, I ate something that would have put me down garunteed for a half hour with dumping syndrome. Didn't happen. I don't miss dumping syndrome. For me it was like an intense flu that came on hard and fast. Sweating, nausea, the works. Lasted for me about half and hour to a hour depending on what I ate and how much. Now it just hurts to eat too much and the bowl thing is something I'm re-evaluating my diet and supplements to help with. If OP is experiencing something similar to dumping syndrome, then probably should go talk to the surgeon asap.

Any emergency NHS treatment would be free whether you had the band done privately or not. For example, I was transferred via ambulance from my private hospital to the local NHS one for emergency bypass after I had immediate post-op problems with my sleeve. You would not be charged for any treatment, so go and get seen to and sorted you cannot wait 3 weeks if something has come loose!! I am also an NHS nurse and have worked in A&E so know this is the case with everything.

Revision from Gastric Sleeve to. ?
Fluffymom67 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had the sleeve in March 2018 with hernia repair. The hernia failed and my stomach is in chest . I have acid reflux really bad, has anybody been through this and what revision surgery would be best. Thanks -
Duodenal Switch does not get the dumping syndrome. I had a RNY in 2001, revision this last June to Duodenal Switch . I know what Dumping syndrome feels like and how it was easy to get used to. Only things I have found that the Duodenal Switch gets is the limitation of food intake and the pain that accompanies it when eating too much as well as the bowl movement issues. Hope this helps.

I am from Australia but don't mind talking to girls all over the world looking for friends or more I use whatsapp to msg people overseas. who knows maybe one day I'll travel but if I'm being picky I'll say my age range is 18-25 I'm 6ft0 & my highest weight was 322 I'm currently 285 aiming for end goal of 200 or BELOW if you're looking for a friend or companion feel free to send me a private msg!! (If we both happen to be preop and going for RNY even better) Regards MIKE.

* HELP HOW many days in hospital???
Bastian replied to New&Improved's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Honestly if you live alone do as many days in hospital as you can especially as you are so far away from it. In USA they do kick them out super early for everything. I think it's just because of their insurance style health care system and most on here are from USA. I had mine done in uk and they said 2-4 is normal for a sleeve and 4 or 5 for a bypass. So sounds the same. [emoji106] Sent from my SM-G935F using BariatricPal mobile app -
Stricture- How do you deal with the awful feeling you're going to throw up?
Bastian replied to Briswife15's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
yeah I saw that and told you to get your butt to A&E then noticed I was like 18 hours late haha! When I had the twisted gut the day after my bypass holy shysters the pain when I drank and there was a dr and nurse in with me and they were telling me to do 'stuff' god only knows what, but the pain hit me and I just ROARED the word PAIN at the poor dr haha It all came up after I yelled then I was like 'oh so sorry I am fine now thank you' BUT the point of my little story was that I imagined you were in the same kind of pain with your stuck food and I felt awful for you! But glad you are on the recovery road now REMEMBER what @FluffyChix always tells us, sip sip sip and chew chew chew. -
It's been a rough journey for you so far Bastian, it's not unexpected that after all the complications you've had and the revision surgery you will be feeling crap. Two surgeries which have radically altered your physiology have knocked you around a lot, it is just your body's way of saying that you need to rest and recoup. I can relate to you wanting to get on with it, but your body just isn't ready for that yet, give the poor thing a chance to catch up lol! From what I have read and researched it is going to be trial and error for quite some time with what you can not tolerate/makes you feel good/makes you feel crap etc you have to re-learn all over again what your new GI tract can take. Be kind to yourself and take it very easy until you do feel better. Hugs and best wishes hun.

Stricture- How do you deal with the awful feeling you're going to throw up?
Briswife15 replied to Briswife15's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi! I had 6 dilations, and the surgeon said I was the worst case he had ever seen! I am 6 months post bypass, and still not on a full "normal " diet, but I'm fine with that. I eat mostly soft and ground foods. I had a very scary, horrible incident of food stuck in my anastomosis this week and almost went to the ER, but after 4 hours it cleared itself. All and all, I'm doing well. Thanks for asking!! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
So for those that don't know I had a sleeve done on the 12th Aug and my stomach twisted from top to bottom (only happens in 0.2% of patients so don't panic if you are pre-op) so I couldn't even get water down, so on the 20th (after an OGD and failed dilation) I had a bypass which may or may not, in fact, be a duodenal switch (will ask when I see my surgeon on Sept 30th). I would quite like to know exactly what my anatomy now is lol Anyway, I went through some pretty horrendous pain got through it all finally and came home ready to move on from it all, but am still uncomfortable, tired, feeling sick, etc. It may well be from lactose intolerance which I finally figured out was a big issue for me this week, but after no lactose at all yesterday and finally a soft tummy this morning, rather than the solid painful one I had constantly the last week, I STILL feel like crap today OH! writing this down has made me wonder if some of my medication has lactose in it, right need to check it huh! It has just been 6 weeks of feeling unwell you know (since the 1st surgery) and whilst I am WAY better than I was; unlike lots of others on here getting back to work and their lives, if I had to go back to work now I actually wouldn't be able to and I am getting frustrated at not feeling 'almost normal' again ugh moany moany moan whinge and whine, sorry for moaning just having a fed up day

Teriffying experience blockage of food
Frustr8 replied to E.S's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
And I ate things that usually agree with me tonight, so why did I just wake up at 3 AM upchucking ,sad isn't it? Right about now I do wish I had my entire stomach, unrouted, too efficient at digesting calories and storing them on my body in case of famine. Surely I inherited that capability from some distant ancestor who did have to face such a thing, no real famines in Mid-America currently. And I did sleep through the night, not the " Am I through puking or not?" sensation. Maybe if I can go back to sleep get some good rest I will 💘 my RNY Bypass once again, but if my Surgeon was with i n Easy Grasp instead of over 50 miles away, I WOULD BE SINGING the song from the Little Abner Movie :" PUT ME BACK THE WAY I WAS!" Difficult, tedious , requiring an High Sill level, have to be done OPEN instead of laproscopically, if I DIE, I would at least Go to My Lord--- Whole Once Again.😪😦💦 -
Vomiting for days - can't even keep down water
Frustr8 replied to CanadianDreamer's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Had a scary thought- you're posting in the Sleeve forum- they're usually not as prone to strictures as Bypassers but I would think it is possible for your sleeve to twist. Hope by now you have been checked out and are safe and BETTER, nothing to fool around with- For all this IS Your Life and Future we are talking and worrying ABOUT. Better to get told it's nothing worrisome by trained personnel than to risk your health. -
Here is the side by side of 3 days post revision vs 2wks post revision. Tomorrow I'm going to track down that black tank top so I can wear the same shirt in every progress picture. Both shirts are an XL and the jeans on the right are a size smaller than what I've been wearing.
