Oh my God I hope that’s not the case for me! 10 and a half grand I paid for this surgery, I’d be mortified if I found out my surgeon did my sleeve purposely large!! I think if I was seeing the scale move the calorie amount wouldn’t bother me, but because I’ve seen no movement in 2 weeks it’s getting me down but I’ll take ur word for it being normal and just keep plodding along, hopefully it’s a stall that will break soon! If not I will contact my practice

1200 calories is not a lot, but it depends on 1200 calories OF WHAT FOOD. Are you eating protein and veggies, or are you eating cakes, sweets, and chips? You will not feel restriction if you are eating sugary or salty snacks because they dissolve into nothing, but if you eat lean protein, you will likely feel restriction. For example, I went out to sushi last night, but didn't eat the rice, so I essentially just ate raw fish - pure protein. I was stuffed! But then after I got back to my hotel I found a rice krispy treat and was able to eat half of it with no issues... oh well. I also have been hungry since day one! I was put on metformin and topamax (topirimate) by my medical team, and it definitely helps the hunger. So does tea and coffee, and drinking enough in general. Also, two weeks of not losing weight is totally normal. As far as exercise... gentle walking likely won't make you hungry (except if you're "expecting" it to). It is good for your mood and while it is unlikely to help you lose weight (you can't out-exercise a bad diet!), it is excellent for health and it is good for keeping weight off long term. Good luck!

I travel for work and was told not to fly for four weeks. I started flying (cross-country) on week five, with no issues. Get up to move around on the flight to prevent any chance of blood clots, but you should be fine (check with your surgery center of course - we're not doctors!). I didn't notice feeling any better, more energy, etc after surgery. I walk faster, but I still get tired feet if I stand on concrete all day, and I feel tired at the end of my day just as much as before surgery. I can walk more hours and I feel restless if I don't exercise. -
Anyone not need iron after bypass?
ShoppGirl replied to mrsjo's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Well I think that the good news is that they should be doing labs every three months for the first couple months so even if you do get a little behind it shouldn’t be too far behind I wouldn’t think. But Splenda makes a good point that if it’s Related to an issue that may resolve with weight loss then it may be safer to just take them. -

So far so good. 5 months post op and realized that I need to hit a minimum 1200-1400 calories a day to lose. Any less absolutely results in stalled weight. Down 125 lbs so far though! -

Yes- at 6 weeks out I can already tell a difference! For example, my feet don't hurt nearly as much when I am up a long time. My knees don't make grinding sounds as bad if at all with my right knee. -
I think I was at 1000-1200 calories at 3 months out and that was encouraged by my practice. My point is to say, if you are losing weight, it's not necessarily bad to be taking in 1200 calories. If you aren't losing weight, it could just be a stall - even at 1200 calories, you are probably in a calorie deficit unless you are really close to your goal weight, which is unlikely given you are only 3 months from surgery.

Any Tips to speed up fat loss?
Tony B - NJ replied to BeachBeauty's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think at this point I started exercising more and it did the trick. When I go into a stall or slowdown I notice I still lost inches due to the exercise then I see step changes in weight loss. -
I do not agree with this at all. Exercise to me is critical to getting the weight loss to continue. If I take a few days off I notice it slows down and I get into a stall. Not to mention, you have to exercise for health as well. Finally, by exercising, you are also trimming your body down and losing inches in the right places. I think you Doctor would agree with exercise and no Doctor would say not to exercise...atleast walking.

Exercise has very little to do with how much weight you lose, or how quickly. The only exercise I did for nearly a year was walking and my weight loss was very successful. Stalls at about the 12-week mark are very common, as you will see when you read the posts here. It's nothing to worry about. As long as you are sticking with the program recommended by your doctor and nutritionist, the weight loss will come. Just be patient. (Easier said than done, I know.)

Absolutely you can do all these things. At 8 weeks post op, I flew to Mexico, went swimming, kayaking, bike riding and snorkeling. I think you can do a lot more than you think you can do at this stage. You are heavier starting out than I was, so you may have more limitations but flying and walking around are definitely doable. -
Anyone not need iron after bypass?
Flab-U-Less Forever replied to mrsjo's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I actually misunderstood my surgeon at my post op appointments. I bought iron but did not take it as I thought I was supposed to wait until my 3 month bloodwork to see if I needed iron. At week 6-7 I started to feel really tired so I reached out to my team to see if I should start taking iron. They told me I should have been taking it all along. My iron levels were slightly elevated prior to surgery. -

I am 6 weeks post op, no problems at all. Feel good and normal energy. -
Hi everyone! My surgery is projected to be in the first couple weeks of July (my last pre-op appointment is June 6th, and the coordinator of my bariatric center said the surgery is usually around a month later, barring limited issues with insurance). I currently live in Florida and am considering flying to Pittsburgh the week of Labor Day to attend a football game of my undergrad alma mater with friends and visit family. However, I’m hesitant to book the trip because I don’t know how I’ll feel 6-7 weeks after surgery. I know everyone is different but I would love to hear from you all about your recovery experiences. Would you have been able to fly, stay outside for 3+ hours, be social for a weekend (:D) approximately 2 months out? Thanks in advance!

No restriction , always hungry and haven’t lost any weight for 2 weeks. 13 weeks post op and I’m so fed up. I can eat upto 1200 calories in a day aswell at just over 3 months post op. what is going on? im not eating anything I shouldn’t always have protein first etc any advice ? I’m more depressed now than I was before surgery. My mum eats less than me and she’s not even had surgery

Hello. I am 6 weeks post op and I don't feel restriction either. I just weigh and measure my food and only eat the serving amounts on my list. So far I have been able to eat anything except solid beef. (ground beef is ok)

Hello everyone, I will have my surgery on the 25th of May. I am well prepared I think, the only thing that worries me at the moment is that 2 weeks after my operation I want to attend an important 3 day meeting. I will probably still be in the liquid phase. How do you gallantly get around questions from colleagues? Because you don't take anything at the buffet and you don't drink in the evening either. That's going to be really interesting, because I usually love eating and drinking with my colleagues and I'll probably have to think up some really good excuses. Thanks 😊 Greetings from Europe! Danijela

I know, the inconsistencies with food stages is ridiculous. It actually made me depressed last week when I read how quickly some people get to start eating puréed. I was feeling pretty sorry for myself and spent the entire day in my pajamas, LOL. It’s funny how the dumbest things can make me emotional. I can’t wait for my hormones to level out again.

Hi! I’m a week post gastric sleeve surgery. I am so uncomfortable with the painful gas. I can feel it bubble in my intestines, make noise, and then I get an intense heavy feeling in my sternum. What can I do about it? I got Gas X in pill form and it has not helped in any way, shape or form. I’ve been walking since my surgery day. I force myself to burp all day long. I can’t really pass gas but I sometimes do. Is there anything I can do to help this stop? I didn’t think it’d last so long but I’m miserable! Personally my gas pains are with me pretty much all day. Is this normal?

Any Tips to speed up fat loss?
Arabesque replied to BeachBeauty's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You can depend upon your rate of weight loss slowing as you get further out & closer to goal. Those heady days of huge losses don’t last. I was one single kilogram (2.2lbs) from my goal at month 5 & it took me an entire month to reach it. It was like a stall. So close so far. You are eating more, closer to what your body needs to maintain your weight so you are not eating in deficit which forces your body to burn fat for energy. If you decrease your caloric intake, you may lose more but at 6 months out focusing on a healthy diet & getting closer to your required nutrients & intake is more important. The other truth is not everyone reaches their goal which is just a number. And those who do, don’t do so to an arbitrary timeline. Many factors totally out of your control affect your rate of loss & the weight you end up at like age, gender, weight loss & gain history & the biggest one: genetics. Can’t change those. Losing 1-2lbs a week is a healthy rate of loss. Celebrate every pound you lose. -
45 day post op /day 2 Phase 4 -still not hungry -taste is off

I live alone & happily eat the same meal for 3 or 4 days. I don’t have to think about what I’m going to eat on those days. All I have to do is prep a few vegetables or a salad so I’m really only cooking twice a week. The freezer is my friend. I freeze all my leftovers in single serve portions. And I deliberately prep extra so I can freeze meals. If I don’t feel like cooking or eating what’s in the fridge, I have a huge choice of meals I just need to microwave ready in my freezer & add a side. Four minutes & dinner is ready. Quicker than a takeaway. Made chicken & barley soup Monday night. I’ll eat it for a few days & I froze three serves for future meals. No waste & more economical too. I do enjoy cooking though. And I prefer it because I have control over the ingredients & how they’re cooked? -

I was working from home at the time so I only took the 2 days I was in the hospital off. Lol, I had my reasons. I was fine to WFH. I’d say a week is enough for a sedentary office job- just no lifting for 30days. -
