    Help! Pre-op liquid diet

I'm on day 9 of my liquid diet and I did fine on the first 2 days but days 3 and 4 were a bit rough...I was feeling very weak. I'm happy to say that only lasted those 2 days. At this point I am pretty much used to it but my question to you is how much protein are you taking in each day? My dietician wants me to have 80-120 grams a day and I tend to end up with around 100 or so. I think everyone tolerates it differently - maybe I'm lucky but I haven't had too much trouble with the diet for the most part....
  2. I had the same thing. The yellow bruising is a bruise that is healing. My bruises weren't all gone until about 2 1/2 weeks post op.

1st Workout- 15 Days Post Op

Yes I was told 6 weeks too ! No strenuous workout !
  4. Hey guys, today is my first day on this app. My surgery is Wednesday the 24th. I am so nervous about feeling pain, also this 14 day diet is such a busttt, i don’t try hard enough, i am so weak to food it’s really sad. I was going so well, but i cooked for my family and i had to taste the food and have the texture of the food in my mouth. I feel so disgusted with myself. So i have to start all over again.... any suggestions for this 2 week(well 7 days left now) to go smooth?

    7 month slowdown/stall ?

I hit numerous stalls! Surgery was June 2015 so I don't remember all the details but I was 20lbs down at one month, 50lbs down at 6 months, and I stayed there for a while, give or take five pounds, then was down 65 pounds at my one year. I gained 15ish back after putting my dog to sleep (I would have put on 40 pre surgery) and now I'm working on taking it off before my two year appointment. After that I'd like to lose another ten but will be ok if I don't. I try to focus on how far I've come, live with the plateaus, stay positive and not beat myself up. I feel better physically and emotionally when I'm doing the right things, and lousy when I don't. The subsequent weight loss or gain is secondary. I hope this helps!

    Weight Loss

Many bandsters don't lose weight the first month or three. Two weeks of not losing weight isn't really considered a plateau. Maybe 6 weeks or more would qualify but two weeks is nothing. If you're only eating 600 calories a day your body is most likely in a starvation mode and will hold onto weight till you ramp up your intake. We all have to find our green zone of calories in and calories burned. Some people lose more if they eat 1200 calories and there are others who lose on 800-1000. 600/day can make your body's metabolism slow down to nada. But, again, two weeks means nothing in the grand scheme. And, you really shouldn't be worrying about losing weight just yet? Once you start getting fills and find some restriction you can work on the fat loss. But right now is a time to heal. Don't worry about it. I didn't start losing weight till my 3rd fill and that was 3.5 months out from surgery. tmf

I'm 4 1/2 months post op. You are eating way less food now, so you are not pooping so much. The first week post-op I did not poop then it was back to regular poop schedule i would talk to your doctor about this or eat some prunes or drink prune juice

    Pureed protein?

I shuddered, too---until I was hungry, post-op, and realized that ground beef = ground beef, whether pureed or not. Pureed Protein doesn't look appetizing, but it tastes fine. bariatriceating.com has LOTS of good recipes, but I didn't really have much interest in following recipes 3 days postop, so I just usually threw chicken or beef or whatever in the Magic Bullet with whatever seasoning sounded good at the moment.

    Carbonated Beverages

Hey! My doctor told me that I can't have soda or those drinks again. The reason he gave me is because the bubbles in it have air and when they pop the air can expand the pouch. I was a Pepsi addict. However, I am three weeks banded and haven't had one. I am in love with Crystal light! lol. I don't really miss it. However, if I were you I wouldnt let the fact that I couldn't have diet Coke be the determing factor for WLS... Much love!

    Taking Pills?

Citrical makes a calcium citrate and offers it in new petite sizes (read the packaging as they also offer regular sizes/got it at Wal-mart.) It is about half of a regular calium and I have been taking that since banding one week ago and things are fine.

    Gallbladder Stones

First week I could not choke down pills. After that I forced them down because I didn't want another surgery. Have you used a pill cutter? Crushed pills into applesauce? Over 33% of VSG patients eventually need gallbladder out. Happy I took them. Two years out and still have my gallbladder. Best wishes & congrats on being sleeved!

    Dissapointment in others....

Ugh...I was told yesterday, absolutely, positively the nurse would be calling me back to give me a date on my surgery. By 4 pm I was nervous, so I called them. The nurse for the 3rd day in a row "forgot" to put my file in front of the dr. to get final ok. Now I have to wait for her to remember to do it tommorw and get a call next week. I know good things come to those who wait, but I do not do well with incompetence. She giggled and didn't even apologize, like it is funny.....grrrrrr..... :help:
  16. Hi Guys, I am about 7 weeks out from gastric bypass surgery and I have some questions regarding how much I should be able to eat. I have been cleared to eat normal food since week 4 and since then I have been sticking to three meals a day of high protein homemade meals like chili, tilapia baked in salsa, an egg baked in lentil stew, or chicken cooked in crushed tomatoes. I had my surgery in Mexico so my aftercare from my surgeon has been essentially nonexistent even when I called early on with some issues I was having. Additionally, my health insurance here will not cover any weight loss attempts whether it's surgical or non-surgical so I can't afford to see a bariatric surgeon or nutritionist so I am relying on you guy's experience to guide me in terms of what a normal volume of food is at 7 weeks post-op I weight out all of my food and food prep so I know exactly what and how much I am eating at any one time. I am worried that at 7 weeks post-op I can eat anywhere from 4 oz to 6 oz of dense protein mixed with a sauce at a time. This is almost always at dinner time. So my usual breakfast is one container of Siggi's yogurt which is 5.3 ounces. That usually takes me an hour to finish. I feel no restriction when I eat the yoghurt but I feel no need to eat until lunch after having it. My lunches are usually chilli or chicken in some sort of tomato sauce. There I can consume between 2 oz to 5 oz of food. How much I can handle before I feel full varies day to day. Now the biggest issue comes at dinner. I can and have in the last week eaten up to 6 ounces of dense protein and sauce in one sitting within 30 mins. Now usually there will be 4 oz of dense protein 1 ounce of beans or other vegetables and then the remaining ounces will be sauce. Now I make sure to not drink water 30 mins before, during, or after my meals so I know the issue isn't that. And I am eating dense protein like ground beef, fish, or chicken so I should feel more restriction. I read posts from other people and they talk about how they can barely handle 1 ounce of meat at 7 weeks out. But it seems I have an iron stomach. I haven't eaten a thing so far that bothers my stomach or gives me any pain. So I am wondering if the issue is the fact that I am eating my protein with sauce? I have tried dry chicken and even with that I could eat 3 oz at only 4 weeks out with few problems. This seems like way too much food. I know stews like chili are considered sliders but the fact that I can consume 3 oz of dry chicken seems like way too much. Maybe I should limit the amount of sauce I use with my food. Mind you I make my sauces from scratch using canned tomatoes or so I am not using high carb premade sauces. What thoughts do you guys have? What has your experience been? Is my capacity way out of line? Am I pushing things too far? I am really starting to worry that my surgeon may have made my pouch super big and that will hinder my weight loss. To date I have lost 27 pounds since surgery and 42 since my 2 week pre-op diet. Sorry if this super long post it's been weighing on my mind.

    Hair Loss

I have heard that it is typical to start losing hair between 3 to 9 months post op. I have read that nothing will really stop the loss, but that the Biotin helps with regrowth. The theory is that it is not only from the stress of the surgery, but also the anesthesia, in addition to the change in nutrition. My hair also started coming out a lot more at about 4 months. No bald spots, though, just a lot of hair in the brush, on my pillow and in the shower. And I know I'm getting enough nutrition so I know it is not that. Do not worry. It WILL grow back and stop falling out, but it might take a few more months. I have read that hair starts falling out about 3 months after any stressful time in someone's life. It will get better. Hang in there.

    Hair Loss

Hi, Well I had my plication for 7 months. They removed it 7 weeks ago, But till this day I'm still loosing my hair I have huge bold spots that I can't hide no more only if I wear a hat, I started loosing it about 4 months after I had the plication done The Dr.told me it would stop. But it did not, and now that I don't have plication any more it still comes out like crazy. I’m taking Biotin, B12 Vitamins, and using Biotin Shampoo and conditioner but nothing seems to help. My Dr. told me to go to a Dermatologist so I can get Hormones shots on my scalp for hair growth. I think it was because of so much stress with plication complications .I will wait a little more on the Dermatologist maybe. Don’t know what to do

Am I Eating Too Much at 7 Weeks Out?

Sounds like you are making your foods slide. The sauce will have a very different effect on your system when combined with the protein than if you were eating drier protein sources alone. Try reducing the sauce amount or eliminating it completely to test how much dense protein you can eat by itself. Since you have no guide lines of your own I will share what my team provided, take whatever you want from it, toss what you don't need. Eating: Only eat within a 30 min window, 1/8-1/4 cup food (1- 6 months), 1/4-1/2 cup (6 months+) of dense protein first Vegetables: As tolerated Mechanics: Do not drink for 30 mins before it after meals, do not eat prior to 30 mins after drinking No straws No grazing, only defined meal times Water: Bare minimum of 64 oz of liquids primarily water Protein: 60-80 g daily (work up to this goal by 3 months out) Dense protein: 1oz by weight 1-6 months goals 4 oz by weight 6+ months goals Primarily through food, stop supplements as soon as possible Eat a variety of protein sources to prevent aversion Carbs: Vary depending on tolerance, but no rice bread or pasta for the first 6 months- only whole grain variety sparingly there after Sugar: Less than 5g of sugar per serving, avoid anything with more than 5 g added sugars in ingredients list Fats: Limit to health oils from food sources like cheese, nuts, olives, seeds and some oils as needed Vitamins: Daily multi w/ iron, calcium citrate, B vitamins, D vitamin Hope that helps Safe Journey!
  20. Tried a new recipe tonight and wasn't sure how it would turn out. When I did the calculations I figured there were some elements that were too high (sodium, for sure). But because the rest of the day was a relatively low content one, this finish didn't even come close to taking me over my other daily limits. So, I gave it a shot. Bite 1...hmm, this is definitely not pizza and I'm not sure I like it. Bite 3...wow, these flavors are really good together. Last bite...really? I'm already done? Yes, I liked it! 1 Mission multigrain tortilla 1 T Pace Picante Sauce 1/8 cup mixed peppers (frozen) 17 slices Hormel Turkey Pepperoni 1/4 cup Kraft low-moisture part-skim mozzarella Bake at 400 for 10 minutes, really just long enough to warm things up and melt the cheese. 21. HI everyone! I start my pre op diet in 2 weeks, and I'm a little worried about what Protein shakes I should have. My Dr. says 2 Protein Shakes daily and a salad with light dressing and chicken. Can you all give me some examples or share some of your pre op diet meals. What shakes are tasty? Help! Thanks all Stephanie

    Pre-surgery depression?

Absolutely normal. I am one month out and even though I burp after EVERYTHING I eat, I am sooooo happy. I had major anxiety, depression, and even a week after the surgery I was questioning what I had done. This website seriously gave me so much support and lots of answers along with my doctor. I know the burping will also go away within the next couple of months and I will always have this wonderful feeling of being satisfied from less than a quarter of what I used to eat. Not to mention I am almost down 30 pounds already! Don't worry, go with it. I think everyone has had some kine of post or pre-op depression.
  23. So excited to begin this journey. I've been on pre-op diet for a week now & it's been a breeze! They said to take a Metamucil if I got hungry. That worked well the one time I needed it. I appreciate everyone's comments & suggestions.

    Pain Week 3

I was picking up laundry on the floor yesterday n felt like I pulled something on my right side n luckily today was my 2 week check up n he told me that I had a stitch in the muscle right there n that is what is causing the pain. Its not a constant pain its just occasional.

    Pain Week 3

I just searched for "right side pain" and found this string. I'm having intermittent pain on the right side and am about 4 weeks post-op on Monday. I'm going to try massaging to see if that helps. When I asked the doctor she said that she anchored the new sleeve to my abdominal wall and this is the incision where they pulled the old stomach out. I, too, was getting worried that this was unique to me...glad I found that others have had similar situations and eventually it goes away. It makes it very difficult to exercise as that seems to make it worse. I'll just have patience and see if massage will work. Thank you.
