Left side pain
IrishKatieKat replied to Amanda Purser's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Strong pain should have let up by now. Most people only have strong pain till week 3 or 4. I would definitely go to the ER and have a CT scan. Sent from my SM-G973U1 using BariatricPal mobile app -

Why is my PPI not working?
liveaboard15 replied to hellohalo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Guessing you had the sleeve? Typically those with heartburn history are told to get bypass instead. but i had the sleeve and the acid reflux was bad for the first couple weeks. even with that same medication you are taking i was taking. but it eventually got better and have not had it since. I hope that is the case for you because the reflux was so painful a couple weeks after surgery that it was driving me crazy -
Pre op diet weight loss
Sleeve_Me_Alone replied to KimA-GA's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had a 2 week long liquid only pre-op diet. I lost 9lbs, for a total of 20lbs pre-op. The most immediate goal of the pre-op diet is to reduce your liver size to make for a safe operation, but it sure is nice to see that number go down! Sounds like you're doing a great job! -
We're almost exactly the same starting/current weight but I'm a couple weeks ahead of you. I only weigh once a week for my own mental health but I'm going on 3 weeks at the same weight. It's normal. Just keep doing what you're doing, search for "stall" in posts here, you're doing great! With a lower BMI to start we aren't going to see the type of numbers others will post. I do wonder if you are consuming enough. 300 kcal sounds very low, but your team should be able to advise on it.

I am pre op and will be starting my pre op diet officially in September. (3 weeks with 50 carb limit a day) Just curious about how much, if any, people lost during their pre op diet - and what their plan entailed…. (As of today 8/10/222, i have already lost 61 lbs from my highest weight last year just through changing my lifestyle and dealing with my binging and emotional eating - am excited for every ounce lost that gains my ability to actually live life)

June 2022 surgery buddies
Mariann812 replied to Jessica1024's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My bypass was 6/8/22. Here’s a quick update. I went into surgery at 208 lbs. I had started the liquid pre-op at 222. I came home from surgery on 6/10 at 223… IV FLUIDS from the hospital caused that. On 6/30, I weighed 192. It was my 3 wk visit with the surgeon. We talked about stalls and not weighing every day. Today is 8/10, 2 months 2 days post op and I weigh 178. Historically I am a slow loser, so I’m over the moon at how this is going. I’m averaging about 1/2 lb loss a day. I found meeting my hydration and protein goals challenging and I had to focus to meet them. It took me a few weeks, possibly 5 weeks even. I made sure I made hydration goals first and then I focused on protein. I found that large amounts of anything with artificial sweeteners (crystal light, etc) stalled my weight loss. Except for 2 s/f ice pops per day, I steer clear of artificial sweeteners. I stopped drinking protein shakes when I made the connection between stalls and artificial sweeteners. I put PRO-T (17 G protein) in a bottle of water a few times a day to meet my protein goals. I buy it on Amazon and I used it after cosmetic surgery a few years ago with great results. I was slow (intentionally) to progress through food stages by choice. I have not been hungry, I have to remind myself to eat (I’m thrilled), and I eat what I feel like eating if it’s something allowed I go through phases: cucumbers, hummus, soup, zucchini, pickles, egg salad, tuna, peanut butter. A couple of bites and I’m full. I walk 3 miles a day, 4-5 times a week. I take vitamins my surgeon has prescribed. I am always drinking water. I have one cup of coffee a day and have essentially lost my love of it. UNPLEASANT: I’ve had 3 vomiting episodes. All my fault because I ate too fast. They were basically uneventful and I was immediately fine. One dumping episode. I didn’t realize buttermilk has sugar in it and I made a dressing for zucchini spirals. I never needed pain meds in the hospital post op probably because I was given a 3 day nerve block in the abdomen by the anesthesiologist. I NEVER had a single gas pain. Ask me any questions: I will try to organize this info and perhaps make it easier to follow. In no particular order, my go-to foods are: ricotta cheese, lettuce with skinny girl dressing, tomatoes, zucchini, chicken-crust pizza (recipe from Sugar Free Mom-Google it-its TDF), many recipes from Bariatric Kitchen on fb. There are SO many recipes…more than I could ever hope to prepare in my lifetime. LOL My attitude has reverted to what it had been most of my life: eat to live. The emotional eating is an issue I have dealt with personally and I dealt with it by removing myself from the kitchen and drinking a bottle of water. When you are sipping, it takes awhile to drink a bottle of water and that’s a good thing. Good luck and feel free to ask me any questions. -
Hi guys, It's me again. I'm 6 days post op and I'm realizing more and more that my symptoms are reflux. I take 40 mg of pantoprazol every morning since the day after the surgery yet I cough like crazy, have food stuck in my throat feeling and almost feel the acid bubbles circulating. Not to mention the crazy hunger feeling I get even right after eating. Are these symptoms normal the first weeks of sleeve? Or is it really possible to get reflux this early stage while on a high dose of ppi? I'm not looking forward to eating real food!

Isn't it the very best feeling. Congratulations. I had a week of walking taller when I hit 100lbs gone forever.

I was diabetic controlled by Metformin pre- surgery. I stopped taking my Metformin when I started my pre- surgery diet. I'm 9 weeks post op and haven't had to go back on it. I feel good and have good energy. I've lost 63lbs so far.

Some ideas here perhaps, but a lot depends on tolerance to certain foods at this stage, but if she can't tolerate now, she may in another week or so or even a month down the track. https://www.upmc.com/services/bariatrics/surgery-process/post-surgery/diet/pureed https://www.taylorbariatric.com/bariatric-surgery-guide/first-few-weeks-after-surgery/diet-stage-3-pureed-foods

Hello Everyone, My partner had a Gastric bypass on 2022 July 25 and she is struggling with eating. She is now in phase 3 (Pureed food only) and she can't even look at chocolate/sugary food types. Yesterday passed without eating anything. Any ideas about salty type of foods she can eat? Thank you for answering! Also let me know if any other info is needed.

September surgery buddies!!
EGRAHAM66 replied to Slwhurst's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Surgery date scheduled for September 13. Meet with the surgeon and the nutritionist on August 18. Begin the liver shrinking diet 2 week prior to surgery. Been following the diet since my last meeting with the nutritionist to get my body adapted to the change that’s coming. Started ordering the items I going to need after the surgery. When I talk to the surgeon on the 18th and find out the multi-vitamin I going to need since I’m currently on iron pills due to me be anemic, I will start ordering my vitamins and calcium. -
My doctor isn't making me stop vaping, but I've read enough to know that smoking and vaping can cause ulcers after surgery. So I'm doing what was suggested above - just ordered some zero mg eliquid in my favorite flavor (Earl Grey Tea with a hint of peach) and I'll start mixing that with my 3 mg, then move down to the zero. I'd love to quit completely by my surgery date in October.

But now I'm not. I was super pissed about being in yet another stall, pissed I haven't lost any more weight. Extremely pissed about the amount of pain I am in. Pissed that I ran into coworkers and friends, one of which accused me of lying about getting the surgery. (sigh) Then in today's true fashion I open up Facebook and find out a close relative just passed. There went my opportunity to see her again. There went opportunity to hang out and do some fun stuff and spend quality time with her. We always think there is plenty of time left but sometimes there's not. I decided my petty issues were just that...petty. Time to focus on what's in front of me and having this surgery is allowing me to do things I couldn't a year ago.

Lost about revision
CarleneD replied to RachelShepherd's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I don't think you should be at all concerned with doctor shopping - we look at different cars/dealerships, different realtors when we buy a home. A doctor should be no different. But it looks like you have made your way through and yay for getting a revision! I had the Lapband in 2011. I never really felt restriction after my pouch healed (2 weeks or so) and I lost 60 lbs. I've kept it off but every time I try to lose more weight I end up gaining it right back. I've gone vegan for 2 years, then went keto and promptly had to have my gallbladder removed last summer - doc said it was directly related to keto. I've lost 40 lbs on my own and gained it right back. So in July I decided that since my insurance now covers bariatric I'd see what could be done. Boy have things moved fast. I went to my PCP (also a NP and I love her) and she referred me to a bariatric surgeon. I had my first consult with him on July 12th and he scheduled me for all the tests. I got them done in record time, sometimes two doctor appointments a day, and got done last week. Had my 30 day follow up today and although they're just submitting to insurance now, he's confident they're going to approve so I have my surgery date for October 24th. Here's to revision and another chance! -
August surgery buddies!

Oh no … I’m sorry to hear you are struggling. Just finishing up my day two. I woke up with a horrible headache (probably from lack of sleep) & dry mouth, no idea how, with all I’m drinking … and a little nauseous come to think of it but as soon as I started drinking the headache went away. I hope day 3 is better! -

I’m on day 2 (of 8) of mine. I can honestly say I haven’t felt physically hungry but the head hunger (wanting to taste textures and or certain foods) showed it’s self today. It wasn’t bad… but it was there. I’m full liquids (no solid food) - so taking in 123+ ounces a day (between the protein shakes, water and juice requirements), and that’s kept my tummy full. Last night was rough - I felt like I woke up constantly to run to the potty. Despite all the fluids, I woke up with a dry mouth and a dehydration headache (don’t ask me how). It went away as soon as I started drinking again. Today I tried getting all my fluids in by 7pm to prevent the constant waking. I’m a little tired today from waking up and probably from the the reduced calories (around 870) I think, but I’m hoping my body will adjust and my energy will perk back up toward the end of the week. Best of luck! It really isn’t that bad… so far. I’ll see how I feel on day 6. Lol -
Holy weight loss, Batman!!!!!!

I've had 2 stalls already, and my weight loss has slowed considerably. I've had to train myself that if I see ANY loss when I do my official weigh ins each Tuesday, it's a win and to celebrate it. Keeping it off is also a HUGE win. I'm so excited to get under 300. I can't wait!!! -

Oh man! I am preparing everything right now for my liquid diet start date on the 15th. I left my house messy so I can hulk clean during my two weeks LOL. We have a huge wedding coming up, my aunts wedding in September, and everyone is super interested in my liquid diet regimen. I tell them they won't be able to do it because they have never tasted a protein meal replacement in their life. Reading everyone's post who is currently on the liquid diet right now is giving me relief that it is not THAT bad! Mind over matter. -
Hey guys!!! I'm new here, honesty had no idea that Bariatric Pal had a Forum haha. I am 6 weeks post-op, RNY on 6/27/02022. I am down 33lbs since the surgery date and am in an awful stall!! is anyone else going through a stall?
-
Thank you for posting. I was just searching the forum for a post about the 3 week stall. I am currently 6 weeks post-op and have been stalled from week 3- the current. I know all the FB support groups etc warn you about the 3-week stall, but I have been so discouraged watching the scale not move for 2.5 weeks. I keep my net carbs at below 35 a day, my calorie intake is usually between 550-700 calories a day. My protein is always between 70-90 grams a day. And for the most part, I reach 64+ oz of water. i don't know what else to do to break the stall. I did lose 1.3lbs in the last 24 hours, so I'm hoping that's a sign I'm back in the game and will see the scale changing again.

This seems too easy...
ThinIce replied to simplysmile's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine has been very smooth as well. I was ready to go home about 6 hours post op and had to wait what seemed like forever to get out of there the next day and get on with it! I'm almost 5 weeks post op now and those first few days feel like ages ago. I've had no issues with getting my fluids or protein in from the get go. I've stopped having any incisional pain and hopefully will get the clear soon to work out harder (more weight, planks, core exercises etc). Still taking that part easy until follow up next week. -
