  1. I have a band and my wife a sleeve. One day, I will revise to the sleeve. It is so much easier, so much less worry, and long term so much cheaper. This is a no brainer for anyone that can get the sleeve, they should get it. For people who have insurance that won't pay for the sleeve, but will pay for the band.....I would tell them, to figure out a way to self pay for the sleeve....it is that much better and worth that much more.
  2. So your weight is at about 200 lbs now? Why do you believe that you can't back to where you were and stay there? If you think that it's too soon for revision, then well... it's too soon for a revision! No, seriously... if you're not experiencing symptoms like e .g. serious reflux it's really hard to decide when it's time for a revision or if a revision makes any sense at all. There is always the risk of another surgery and results regarding additional weight loss or losing regained weight can be quite poor depending on the procedure.

Do you see your surgeon annually?

Yes. Every year after my vsg surgery, I did two things: Full blood test and have a check up visit with my team including a barium swallow to check my sleeve. I was always paranoid I had stretched it. I will probably do the same now with my revision. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Are you happy?

I revised from the Lapband to the DS two years ago. Since that time, I have lost 80 pounds. Besides there being a whole lot less of me, yes, I am happy and would do it again. I can eat pretty much what I want and have maintained my weight loss due to the malabsorption component of my surgery. You will find that many sleevers have regain issues. As far as the bathroom goes, no one's poop smells good. I have more gas in the evening and looser stool than I used to, but this is a small side effect and not a deal breaker to me. I went from a size 2x to a medium top. A size 18 pant to a size 8. No one eating next to me would know I had weight loss surgery because I can eat a normal portion. Protein first, veggies next. Drinking lots of water. My joints and feet don't hurt like they used to either. I wouldn't let a little more gas deter you from considering the DS. It's a good, solid, data-proven weight loss intervention. Out of all of the weight loss surgeries, the DS has the best proven track record for keeping the weight off, even over bypass surgery. Ask your surgeon. My short answer: Yes, I'm happy.
  5. Man that stinks. I would be interested to see what a study of easy breezy vs post -op from hell. It can't be age, because I'm no spring chicken. I really don't understand your doctor not wanting to prescribe a PPI. Mine put me on one prophylactically. Hopefully the new doctor can resolve you issue. There's another poster here who has worse acid than yours. She is considering a revision to RNY.

    Are you happy?

Maybe you could get some other surgical opinions. There seem to be a lot of folks here that have revised from sleeve to bypass. Check out their posts and see what has worked for them. Best wishes,

    Are you happy?

Ohhhh @azhiker I love your excitement!!! Haha so fun. @losingit2018 my surgeon said the DS is the way to go he doesn’t revise to the bypass and since I have the sleeve already i can see advantages to the DS. I’m not confident another surgery will be the answer since it seems like I have been gaining weight so easily w the sleeve after 2 years. I don’t want to redo my insides and have bathroom issues for the rest of my life and still be fat. Sigh
  8. WLS, take 3 Well, the word came down today, and I am now scheduled for VSG surgery Oct 21. The insurance company is picking up about half the tab because of the lap-band removal; the rest of the procedure comes out of my pocket. This looks to be an interesting and different path than the one I've been on, and hopefully ends up in a much better place. I still think the lap-band is a great procedure for those who can cope with it, but my body simply insisted on being in that 2%. (Lap-band 05/2007, high 292, low 178, slip, revision, slip, current 220 and headed up)

    Im new here

Welcome Aboard MT! Glad you decided on the sleeve. I started out looking at the band too. After reading all the revision to sleeve I decided that was the better course. Nice to see you take charge of your life at an early age. Good luck and keep us posted!
  10. Mine is on the 28th at 12:30. I'm right there with you. I think I was hyperventilating last night. I'm better today, but only because I made myself stay busy. I'm scared out of my mind, but I know we both do great. I've been researching and researching this. I have found tons of people regret having the band and having to have revision, but I haven't really found very many people regreting the sleeve. I know it is newer, but still even though most stats are only a few years old....If it was bad you'd still have some people regret it, but none.......That's a good sign to me. Let us know how it goes, and I'll keep you up to date as well.....Good luck
  11. I've had my lap band since 2015, and I HATE it. It does what it should do, stops food from going into my stomach. But I get stuck a lot and it hurts, I end up vomiting it up, and anything unhealthy slips right through the band without a problem. I can eat gobs of cake, cookies, chocolates, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, casseroles, the works but it is painful to eat fruits, lean proteins, vegetables, etc. due to them getting stuck. It's like it's doing the opposite of what I want. When the food stays in the pouch, all I need to do is burp a couple times and boom, pouch is emptied. In short, It. Just. Does. Not. Work. I want a revision but I'm not sure what to do. I need to talk to a doctor, I realize, but I'm nervous. I thought the lap band would be the ticket out of fatness but it's absolutely not. I'm scared if I try something else, that won't work either. I love to eat and I can't stop. I've tried all kinds of diets. It just sucks, my appetite is insatiable and I need to do something about it. I'd love to hear from people who have had revisions and share what's different about their new procedure (whether sleeve or bypass). Sleeve makes me nervous because I've heard a lot about GERD. My spouse's grandfather died of esophageal cancer, due to years of GERD. But bypass makes me nervous because it seems like such a severe surgery... and I don't want to look like a skeleton in a bag of skin 😕 Any shared experiences would be appreciated!

    Complete lap band failure

Gastric band - been there, done that. Stopped working and I never felt full. So last year after my weight went back up I decided to have the revision and get the sleeve bit due to the build up of scar tissue (surgery was May 2010), surgeon ran out of time to do the VSG safely. So had to wait until 11/30/20 and finally all was completed. I was told he might have to do the bypass and I prayed so hard that didn't happen. I'm 65 and glad I did it. Complete lap band failure

I believe the issue here is the fact that your band is not filled. You have got to get the follow up care in order for it to work. You stated that you had twins and your saline was taken out. Why didn't you have it put back in after six weeks or so from giving birth? After care is the most important part of any wls, especially the band. I had restriction only because I did eat what I was supposed to and when I lost weight and felt I could eat more, I made me an appointment and had myself checked. Sure enough I would need a fill to take up the space from losing weight. Unfortunately 8 1/2 years later, I began having problems with it. It slipped, I lost restriction, gained almost all of the weight I lost, and now I'm sleeved. I don't get stuck anymore thank God. I still have restriction after I eat. What has changed for me is my taste buds. I can't eat or drink anything with a lot of sugar and I AM SOOOO HAPPY [emoji846]. Sugar was my addiction/problem and since I've been sleeved for almost two months now, I don't have that problem anymore. My suggestion is to get a fill so that you can get back on track. If you're mind is absolutely made up on having revision surgery, then good luck to you and best wishes. Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Why am I soooooo hungry??

You said you're revision? Sleeve to SIPS did you say? Were you hungry after your sleeve as well? Did they touch your sleeve this time? Sorry for these questions. Just asking because I'm a revision as well (MGB to RNY) and have a really hard time battling the cravings this time.
  15. I am hopefully going to be approved for the lap band soon. I meet the NHI requirements, plus I have some of the co-morborbidities. Unfortunately, my insurance doesn't consider co-morborbidities, they go strictly by weight. According to them, I need to be 270 pounds (5'4) and right now I'm 225. But, I have newly diagnosed high blood pressure, asthma, sleep apnea, orthopedic issues, but they won't consider them. However, my HR director informed me that they are going to be revising their guidelines for the lap band (which were equalled to gastric bypass)..dumb! Right now, I'm trying (AGAIN) weight watchers and I've just started Alli. I am too young (43) to have this much trouble. I also have a 2 year old granddaughter plus a beautiful 14 year old daughter and I want to be able to play with the grandbaby without problems.I also want my daughters (21, 14) to be proud of me:o Vicki
  16. I was going to go with the sleeve but got RNY ....first longer history with the rny, sleeve is still considered a newer procedure as far as long term results... revisions, in my year of classes and research I have talked to a lot of people who got the band or sleeve and still ended up getting RNY including the friend that told me about the sleeve. I only wanted to have it done once... I am a food addict and wanted the most restrictions and limitations on my eating as possible, I have sleeved friends on my fitness pal that eat junk, yes it's their choice not to change their food habits but I didn't want that option of being able to eat a lot of greasy, sugary foods and although many of them have lost great they are very strict on themselves as not to backslide...I am 5 months out and I haven't dumped, I have had no issues with any foods, my blood work is good. I am down 78 lbs and feel great... if you have no medical issues that require one over the other the choice is up to you. Recommended reading The Big Book of Gastric Bypass and there is also one for the Sleeve and Band very detailed pre op, the surgery itself and first few months post... good luck!!
  17. Hi Sarah, and welcome to VST. We're all here for you throughout your journey, and I wish you the very best. I had the band and it was a nightmare. Luckily, I was able to revise to the sleeve, and I'm living a very normal, healthy life. If you have any questions, or concerns, feel free to post away. Someone will have an answer for you ! ! !

    Revision?

I journal everything except fulids cause Dr just want a to see food. I reach my goals I guess for fulid and protien. I don't have a NUT I just have the NP at my weight loss center. I keep every appt and I tell them everything. I take my meds/vitamins. I was discouraged and I gave up. But I also knew what I put in my mouth was wrong and I worked out harder to work those things off. And I know if I had a revision I would have to follow the rules cause I'd get dumping syndrome and get sick. Its just a thought. I haven't had a sweet in 2 days and before my scale broke I was still gaining. I exercise 5x a week. I hate it but I do it. 30-40 minutes. I journal my exercise as well. I don't know if its a stall or I just put on a lil weight for a lil while. Its been on for a week. I don't k ow how to get it off. And people may thing 48lbs is good but I do t think so. I have a friend d who had surgery the same day as me she does the same as me and she is down over 100lbs since pre op. That's what I expected but I got a dumb 48 pounds. I'm just not happy with that.
  20. I had gastric sleeve August 18th 2015. Currently I have already gained weight back and I wanted to know if a revision this early as possible.? I'm very upset with the weight gain I lost very slowly since August 18th. I had only lost about 48 pounds and then I started to gain. I'm considering making an emergency appointment with my nurse practitioner of my Weight Loss Center to discuss other options or to ask what could be wrong I know I'm doing everything right I'm eating great portions and great meals I have snuck a few sweet drinks in every now and then and honey bumn, yes don't reply with any bad messages please cuz I know I've done wrong but every time I had one of those sweets... I worked my ass off to get the calories worked off. I have accomplished over a mile of walking, I do Weight and I do spinning but no more weight is coming off its just gaining what do i do, what do you think?.

Not sure who I should tell!

The only people I told about my band to sleeve revision was my mom and aunt since I needed them to take me to the hospital and watch my son. I feel this is a very personal decision and it really isn't anyone's business. I've been starting to eat healthier and talking about my weight loss to a few people at work so they are aware that I'm working to get healthy. They do know that I had surgery but I told them I had a hernia repaired, I didn't lie just didn't tell them I also had a revision. You just need to do what you feel is best and if not telling anyone then don't. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  22. Hi all, Glad to be part of this section of BariatricPal since previously spending it on the Lap Band forum! To give a bit of background: My highest weight ever was 357 and I underwent lap band surgery on May 2013 - four days after I turned 21. I found great success with it for the first 18 months, losing 156 lbs before having a body lift (tummy tuck/butt & thigh lift) and arm lift in late February 2015 where an additional 11 lbs of excess skin was removed, making my total loss 167 lbs and my lowest weight to date being 190 lbs. Last summer, to put it as simply as possible, my band pretty much "stopped working" and I ended up gaining 30 lbs back. It was torturous and I worked tirelessly with my surgeon's office to resolve it (multiple fills which all did nothing, the highest being 6.75; anything above I couldn't swallow water) and even went on Phentermine for a few months - which helped me lose 10 of the 30 lbs I'd gained back - before my body became immune to it. After expressing for a long while that I felt helpless and would like to have my band removed/revised to a sleeve, my surgeon's office helped me apply for insurance approval which was a success! My weight pre-revision surgery was 209 lbs and I had the revision done just this past Wednesday, August 24th. I am recovering well although I'd forgotten how miserable the 2 week liquid diet is! Two questions I currently have are: 1) I am very bloated from having IV fluids for 3 days and saw my weight fluctuate to 214 and then back to 210. I don't plan to weigh myself knowing it will just upset me in the meantime - when can I expect for this to resolve itself? 2) My goal weight is 165 lbs (being 5'8 tall and 24 years old) but realize that I've already lost a large amount of weight; is this a realistic expectation? I've suffered so much heartache as a result of the past year that my fear (probably irrational) is that I won't lose any more weight or be able to see weekly progress. Thanks all for reading - any advice/comments are appreciated!

    Anyone with lower BMI 27.5.

It really depends upon your insurance company. If your doctor is able to convey how the band needs to be removed and your need for a tool to maintain a loss, you just may be able to get the sleeve. It's going to be really important for you to consult with your doctor and see if he/she is on board with a sleeve. You may have to jump through a few hoops, but it will be worth it if you are able to get the sleeve. By the way, I have read of people getting a revision with a low BMI if the lapband has to be removed for medical reasons.

    Revision for regain

I'd call the company and ask. Even if that insurance company covers more than one weight loss surgery per lifetime (and some don't...), your employer may not have wanted that coverage included in the policy they offer their employees. Also, even when places approve revisions, some of them will only approve them if there's a medical reason for it - something like severe GERD or some kind of malfunction. But I'd ask - you never know.
  25. When I met my husband of 8 years ago I already had RnY surgery...and was at my lowest adult weight at that time and looking and feeling fabulous! But about 4-5 years ago I started gaining weight and I can tell although he does not say anything he does not like the weight gain. I decided finally to seek a revision of my previous procedure and I am currently in the preop surgery process with all the tests and appts., we have talked about it and he is happy either way with my decision to do the revision surgery or to continue trying to lose it without surgery. People's inner self can manifest at any time,so for some the weightloss was their catalyst sadly!!
