September 2009 Band Date

I haven't had the refried beans do you know why they said no? I had scrambled eggs w/ cheese; flounder sauteed in lemon and a teaspoon of butter, yogurt (greek). On Tuesday when you go to mushy you still can't have refried beans? I am trying the ricotta recipe tomorrow. -
Okay I'm back home surgery went pretty well they ended up taking my gallbladder because I found a small polyp in it. Painless pretty intense the first day at the surgery and then it hit its peak at 3 a.m. I guess technically the morning after the surgery it was really bad. I had severe shortness of breath and my heart was all over the place so they ended up ordering at CAT scan of my chest and ultrasounds of my legs to look for blood clots and then an upper GI to make sure everything was in order. I'm glad to say that all of those tests came back normal and my shortness of breath is still here but obviously getting much better. They kept me in hospital for 2 days technically three because I wasn't released until 8 last night. The nurses were phenomenal at my hospital I felt very good and taking care of I walked a grand total of 50 laps around the nurses station and every time I went at least one nurse and look at how good your doing. When they release me my heart was still a little bit all over the place but the doctor felt confident that I'd be okay going home. So here I am I got up this morning and did walk the length of my house 8 times I had my first breakfast which was super runny yogurt took my Prilosec and crushed at my potassium and hid it in the yogurt. I also got to take the bandages off today and take a nice warm shower that I'm very tired after all the activity and will be in bed for the next hour to hour and a half. How did everybody else do you had surgery on the 9th 10th or 11th

Anyone else banded on the 9th and how are you feeling? __________________ I was banded on the 9th. I'm feeling pretty good. It hurts to get up and down and I'm trying very hard to relax but I notice when I don't do much the gas builds up and hurts, So basically it's off and on with the gas but I'm absolutely not eating enough. All I had today was water (which I need to gulp but can't) 1/2 of the cream of wheat that the instant package holds. 1/2 a yogurt, 1/2 protein shake (nasty) and that's it. Were you also banded on the 9th and how are you doing with it?

Any November 2009 Bandsters??
SharonG replied to 120inside's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded November 3rd, and I think I am doing very well. The first two days were not the best, my back hurt from laying around so much. Every day has gotten better and I feel pretty good now. I just have a little tightness and pain in the area but I am able to get around just fine. I work from home, so I work a few hours and rest. I am walking and climbing stairs and everything. My incisions are doing great, the "superglue" has held on all of them except the one in my bra area. I just slapped a bandaid on that one. I think my surgeon must have done a very good job with pushing the gas out of me, because I did not have any of the gas pains in my arms, neck, whatever. I was lost 8.5 lbs post-surgery, and I have stuck totally to the 2 oz of yogurt, applesauce, cream of wheat. I have not been hungry one time. Can anyone tell me how to get that ticker? -
Any June Bandsters???
gwenyth replied to candy rain's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
:thumbup:Hi Im from Perth Australia and when I read your messages am not quite sure what I am doing. I was banded on June 2nd and it has been fine so far with shoulder tip pain and feeling tired at the end of the day. I have been following the book given to me by the surgeon re Lap bands and that is all I have done so far. A week of fluids initially clear and now thicker things like soups and yogurt seem to go down well. It is a bit less tight than it was a week ago as I have not had a fill.Is that correct? Any advice would be good. Also how long did people have off work as I am a nurse and am due to go back this Sunday 11 days post op? -
Good job! Everybody is different and everybody's body reacts differently. I bet in addition to different doctors having different treatment plans, they probably have a different plan for each of their patients based on what they learned about them pre-op! So, I think the most important thing is to be open and honest with your doctor (and yourself) about what you are and are not doing in regards to eating and exercise. I think in addition to watching portion size, it’s also important to count calories. If I didn’t start counting calories, I would have had no idea that the food I typically ate, even in small portions, was horrible and there were just as satisfying alternatives that are better. For instance, for breakfast, I would gear towards maybe a Sausage McMuffin with egg. One of those is not huge, even for those with restriction could probably go down ok with some good chewing. But that sucker has 450 calories, 30g carbs, and only 21g protein! A better choice with what I've found to be just as satisfying, a ham and cheese omelet on low carb tortilla - 235 calories, 12g carbs, and 25g protein! Even other things as simple as yogurt, Yoplait light vs. Yoplait thick and creamy or regular pudding vs sugar free pudding, both the same amount of food, but a difference of almost 100 calories. That’s the main reason I do keep track of what I eat, it just helps me to make better choices. I'm not melting away, but I'm ok with that now because I know I'm doing the best I can making good food choices and better eating habits. The weight will come off in time. I've already lost over 20lbs in 2 months when it took me 30 months to lose 80lbs on my own, so I think I'm doing pretty darn good with my band!

I am getting a little bored with my post op diet, any suggestions? I am eating things like turkey breast, cottage cheese, eggs, tomatoes, slices of low-fat cheese, light yogurt. Im scared to try anything else. -
Hey February 2010 Bandsters!

Had my pre-op appointment yesterday. Everything went well. Still scheduled for Wed, Feb 3rd. I recieved the doctors "book" on what to expect and what to eat after. For three weeks after surgery I can only have; protein shakes, yogurt, milk, pureed fruits, and liquids. All low-fat/low sugar. Then I get to add softer-solid foods after that. I guess that is about the norm from what I have seen on here. I already have my post-op appoinment and another appoinment after that for 3/3 check up but not necessarily a fill. The problem I am finding with my docs office is that the majority of his patients use the Realize band and once they get the band the go to that website and never post here. I have a hard time finding people from his office on here. -
Betty, we don't want that plane turning around because someone is foaming at the mouth! LOL How long is the flight? I probably wouldn't eat on there either, unless it was soup or yogurt. Tpagern, I had to do the sleep study too. Who can sleep all wired up with wires hanging and stuff stuck in your hair, cords stretched to a bedside table, EGADS!!!! You just have to wad up, lay on it and try to pretend nothing is going to mess it up and then go to sleep. I was helping strip sheets at 4:40 a.m. Left by 5:00 a.m.! Oh, getting up to go to the bathroom was an experience in itself. lol

I think I am going to be sick....I so blew it on Friday (and over the weekend) So on Friday...I was starving.....starving....starving....my monthly friend is here and I'm totally on a roller coaster. I can't believe everything I ate: Protein Shake Yogurt Soup at hand drink Tator Tot Casserole And then I walked over to the coffee shoppe...I totally forgot about my band...and I ordered a loaded hot chocolate AND a blueberry danish. If I needed proof that I have no restriction and the band won't stop me---I ate/drank them both. I felt so sick to my tummy after that...I didn't need to throw up I just felt ill from the sugar overload. We went to the beach this weekend and I tried to be good but I snacked quite a bit. My husband pointed out last night that I was stress eating. I wanted to cry-- I didn't even realize what I was doing. I have an appt tomorrow morning and I am going to beg beg beg for my second fill. I Can anyone else feel their port? When I sit for too long ot after I eat I swear I can feel it---it's almost like it's buldging out and poking my ribs........ Sorry for my babbling confession.....any tips of getting back on the right track???

February Bandsters?
myluv2drive replied to mrsmyers2010's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Went for my 4 month checkup yesterday. Doctor says I am losing right on schedule and that I am doing great. Got .5cc fill for a total of 6cc's. He says my band will hold approx 12cc's but most people that he has seen reach their green zone between 6cc & 9cc. So I hope I am getting close to mine. I have been tight since fill yesterday so we will see. Only doing protein shakes and greek yogurt for today. Hope everyone else from Feb is doing good. -
February Bandsters?
Sojourner replied to mrsmyers2010's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Survived my first day on "mushies"...but just barely. I followed the protein rules (egg, tuna, had some pureed fruit, yogurt) and felt so lethargic. I could not even gather enough energy to do any exercise that I had intended to do this afternoon. I got enough protein, but only felt better after a protein shake for dinner. Has anyone else experienced this lack of energy when transitioning back to "real" food? -
October 2012 Bandsters
Janahamrick replied to NYTeacher's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just saw this thread! I was banded on 10/26/12. I am so looking forward to tomorrow to start my protien shakes and yogurts. I have not cheated but yesterday and today I am really wanting something other than broth, Popsicles, Jello, low cal gatorade, and water! Reading all these posts is really encouraging. I am glad I found this thread. I have no real pain and I have had no pain med since day after surgery. My port is u der my arm and was sore for a few day, but feels much better now. -
That sounds great Kelly. I would love to join you on the low carb bandwagon as that was always my plan. Right now, I'm back to my protein shakes which include the greek yogurt and fruit and I will be eating a reg. meal for lunch. I've already strayed so far from what I'm supposed to be eating. I want to at least be down a good solid 20-25lbs when I go for my 1st fill so my surgeon can see I am trying. What do you plan to do when you have a fill and have to go back to protein shakes and yogurt for a couple of days? You don't sound vain for wanting to be down by next Sept. as I said before I wanted to reach goal by my year surgiversary too that would bring me to next August. I'm beginning to doubt that the way I feel now but I'm hoping it gets better after my fill. I just did my Leslie Sansone 2 mile walk so I feel good about that. I'm hoping to build on that every day and eventually work up to doing something 2x a day to get me to my goal. Dee

August Rush in bandland!
Khloe24 replied to AmberK's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone! I'm joining August Rush  I was banded on Monday. So far, feeling a lot better but still incredibly sore around my belly button. chicken broth was absolutely amazing for about a day and already I'm bored. Looking to move onto better Soups. Gas is still killing me ... gas x strips (after 2 boxes in 2 days -- bad i know) is not helping any longer. can we take tums? Another Question: anyone do any sugar free frozen yogurt or sorbet? Is chocolate flavor off limits? Nice to join the August-ers!! -
tired of being lectured on here

I was able to have yogurt and pudding during my liquids phase along with creamed soup. Eggs are DELICIOUS but they didn't go down so well with cheese. My best advice? Don't plan too much because your "steel sleeve" may just turn to butter when you try something new. I'm not a big sweet eater, either. I found that adding NF dried milk to my shakes toned down the sweet a LOT and made them much more tolerable. -
Anyone having surgery in Oct ?
Daisydawn34 replied to Jenaenae84's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 8 days post op I was progressed to full liquids. I lost 14 lb since surgery. I know it's completley irrational i am worried about the calories I'm taking in from full liquids. I've tried a yogurt cream of wheat and butternut squash soup as that is allowed. In my head I don't want to eat them because I'm afraid I won't lose weight. It's crazy cause I know I need new nutrition. It doesn't help that I have no appetite -
September 2009 Band Date
Ready4a2ndChance replied to ashleysara's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There were several reasons; excess gas, empty calories, high in sodium and carbohydrates.........I definately don't need any more gas hahahahaha. QUESTION: I haven't had a fill yet, i'm 2wks out almost, should I feel alot of restriction????????? I feel like I'm too hungry........typical day 4oz of V8juice/4oz cottage cheese for breakfast.........2boiled mushed up eggs and some light mayo.......and mushy tuna or tomato soup for dinner and maybe a small smoothie or some yogurt for a snack (I get up at 6am and go to bed at like midnight/1am)...............should I be so hungry inbetween meals. I have 1cc in my band. -
Ok guys I have a really strange phenomenom (sp?) going on with my band, I can eat meat just fine, but I cannot eat yogurt, mashed pot. , or soft foods. Now is that weird or what?? Even in the evening. But I haven't had a problem with any meats so I can't be overfilled. This is so weird!!!!

Any February 2014 Sleevers?
sammyblingss replied to honeyg317's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congrats and welcome !!!! I'm on pureed but I have been eating fish with my dinner. I'm slowly adding new items but not all at once. My nut said that was ok as long as I am able to tolerate it. I found that the easiest way tot get my protein is scrambled egg for breakfast and protein shake throughout the day --I make mine with frozen fruit or fresh mango, a piece of banana, non fat Greek yogurt, some unsweetened almond milk and a scoop of vanilla cream protein powder. It has so much protein and its smooth enough and counts towards the liquid intake. I am in love with this smoothie. That's the easiest way for me to get close to my mark. Good luck!! -
Had a conversation with my husband about my diet. I haven't had one these last 2 weeks and it has to be very unhealthy. I have to have times to eat, what to eat, a plan. So this morning I ate 2oz of Greek yogurt. Still got that horrible pain at the bottom of my breatbone. I'm guessing that's the stuck thing I dunno. Then terrible cramping. I can't live on water alone...

Well I made it through day 1 and I lost 3lbs, so that gives some motivation at least. Also I realized I can blend my shakes with nonfat yogurt, which has changed my world! haha. Also, blending it with coffee is delicious.
