    IM SO PISSED!

I am on Day 9 or 10 of my pre-op diet & IM GAINING WEIGHT! Why on this green earth would I be gaining weight?! My Fluid intake is phenomenal, I'm hitting every last calorie and macronutrient goal you can think of, yet, I'm gaining. I'm friggin gaining! I tried implementing exercise, I've tried not exercising and just focusing on the diet. Just why! This is so incredibly discouraging because I'm literally over here STARVING from the lack of calories and gaining, when I can easily eat whatever I want and gain! I'm following the plan to a T just so I don't have any complications post surgery. But I'm starting to lose hope. I keep telling myself to stay off the scale, but how else will I know what's working?! Just. Someone. Anyone. Please tell me what could possibly be happening or how I can fix this!! I'm trying everything I can to NOT cheat, but things like this is what's pushing me closer to the edge. *Also, I'm aware of Water retention, etc. But I lost 7 lbs the first week. Now, it's steadily going back up. It started going up by .4, then a pound, now a few pounds. * Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  2. I had mine on 10/3 as well, just wondering what you have been eating, need some ideas thanks
  3. Hi all - I just got my surgery date today and it is July 21st. I have to start an all liquid diet 10 days before the surgery. I hate Slimfast and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for things that are better tasting, more variety, etc. I would rather not have 10 days of choking things down and trying not to heave it up again! All suggestions, ideas, etc would be appreciated - thanks!!:biggrin2:

    Lapband or Vertical Sleeve

Follow-up visits with a band are more numerous during the first year post-op. Every surgical patient will have some post-op visits. I'll be three years next February. I had a tiny fill in early September of this year, and an upper GI just before that to check that all is well (it is). Prior to that, I had not seen my band surgeon for a year. Prior to that it had been about 9 or 10 months. Unless you have complications, the band does not have much more follow-up than other procedures after you get proper restriction. My surgeon wants me to check in once a year. If I did not have insurance, the upper GI would have been costly, I am sure. It could be a consideration, depending on your circumstances. I believe long-term (2-3 years, that is) weight loss rates for both procedures is about the same. I lost 100% of my excess body weight with the band in about 2 years. Show some skin?

I have a collage that shows my before in a swimsuit, my after in a swimsuit and my after plastics in a swimsuit. I looked fine in my bikini before plastics, but after is even better. I have to say that I lost another 10 pounds after the second bikini shot in the blue bikini was taken. I looked even better in it, except it got too big. I had plastics three weeks ago so now its better than ever. I didnt HAVE to have plastics done to wear a bikini, thats the point Im trying to make here. Good luck to you!
  8. Hi guys...I had my gastric bypass surgery 10 days ago, and I am having such a hard time! There isn't a day that's gone by that I don't regret this! Having the surgery was the worst decision I've ever made! I am mortified about what I've done to my body, how I feel physically, emotionally, everything. I feel so alone and so lost and so hopeless...this stupid surgery has taken everything from me! I've struggled with depression before, but now I feel like I have nothing to live for... Btw, I'm going to call my doctor in the morning, but what can he do? It's not like he can reverse it... Did any of you guys go through this? I feel so alone.... :-(
  9. I had read on here that some doctors said not to chew gum - mine never did or if he had I did not hear him lol Needless to say I thought what is the big deal and picked up a piece while riding in the car with my husband and chomped on it for the ride for about 10 to 15 min no big deal right? WRONG! I got out of the car after spitting out the gum and got REALLY BAD PRESSURE gas/air in my stomach that went up into my shoulders. Then I grabbed the Gas-X strips with no real relief. Took a few hours to get rid of the pain and pressure so I LEARNED MY LESSON! :w00t:
  10. I have been doing pre-op for a week now and I am just not hungry. I have been replacing my meals with the shakes and have a small healthy meal in the evening. I am still nursing my shake from lunch and it is now 5:45!:wink2: I have lost about 10 pounds since I started but I am concerned if I should still force myself to eat ( or drink) when I am not hungry.

I am self pay and i agree the process def went a lot quicker. My time was just 2 weeks. I do wish that i had been more prepared.I think the consult with the Nutrionist and the Counselor is a good ideal no matter what payment type. I think the Great thing about this site is that although we are all surrounded by people who dont get it. Thank God we have a place to go to where people do. Good luck, i'm just 10 days out and i feel better already!1
  14. Hey all, I am new to this site and have found the information and discussions extremely interesting/helpful. I have recently decided that I want to be banded. I have been considering/researching for about 10 mnths and am now ready to begin my weight loss journey. Imagine my disappointment when I found out that my insurance will not pay for it so I will be a self-pay. There is a place in Oklahoma City called WeightWise that offer surgery starting at $9,995. Has anyone used them and if so can you tell me about your experience? Thanks in advance for any help or advice you may be able to offer

    Solid food progression

I'm almost 3 years out. Here's what my day looks like: Breakfast - shake with 1 cup of Fairlife Skim Milk, protein powder and frozen fruit of my choice and coffee (35-ish grams of protein) Morning snack - Skyr Icelandic provision yogurt and a piece of fruit (10g protein) Lunch - Mixed green salad with 4 ounces of chicken and 1 tb of balsamic vinaigrette (31g protein) Afternoon snack - cheese (1.5 ounces) and grapes or another small fruit (10 g) Dinner - 3-5 ounces protein, small salad and small veg (asparagus, broccoli, etc.) 20+ grams of protein depending on the meat at dinner. I usually add another shake in and some carbs, but that's because I work out for about 1.5 hours each day burning anywhere from 700-1000 calories in a workout and I can't go into that much of a deficit or my body will eat muscle instead of fat. I'm training for a major competition. Hope this helps.

    Surgery is today!

Thinking of you! Let us know how you are doing! I'm up on 6/19!
  17. I had the RNY on April 10. Highest weight was 220lbs which dropped to 206lbs on the day of surgery. My progression is as follows: Apr 10: 206lbs Apr 24: 196.4lbs May 10: 192lbs June 10: 176.2lbs July 10: 168lbs Aug 10: 161lbs Sep 10: 152.6 lbs Oct 10: 148.8lbs Today, Oct 19: 146.8lbs I am 5'4". As you can see, I initially lost weight slowly. I also had times where I lost rapidly and times where the scale barely moved. I tracked my progress with body measurements (lost 14inches off my waist!), dress sizes (size 18-6/8; size XL/XXL to S/XS), and body fat (39% to 23.4%). Don't rely on the scale! Good luck!

    Calorie intake

That is something you should work out with your doctor or NUT. Personally, I have never counted calories post op. I strive for a minimum of 64 oz lean Protein. I eat in this order protein first, then veggies, then fruit, then carbs. I've rarely made it to the fruit. I try to never eat anything that is over 10 grams of sugar, or fat, or carbs. There just isn't any room left really after the protein. That is something you should work out with your doctor or NUT. Personally, I have never counted calories post op. 21. I'm 5ft 10 and at 184, I was fat. Not obese yet, but well and truly chunky and not looking my best. Rolls round the belly, big boobs and not able to shop in a lot of normal stores - we're not quite so supersized clothing wise yet in Australia, but its coming. A BMI of 34 is obese! If you think that looks good, then that's YOUR choice. I've lost down from a BMI of 36 (they band from a BMI of 30 in Australia). The improvement in my physical health is remarkable, I needed to lose that weight. You're only comparing it and finding it an improvement from being much much heavier. That's not reality. Its still heavy enough to bring the beginnings of comorbidities. This is two issues and I dont really want to weigh into the illegal/cheating the taxpayer thing. Your medical system is just way too complicated. But I ask you this - How is gaining a few pounds to get the surgery any different from someone who gains right up to 300 lb and THEN gets the surgery? Costs the same either way only the 300 pounder has also probably racked up a bunch of costs for treatment of comorbidities of obesity as well. It actually SAVES the taxpayer money to treat obesity before it becomes serious. Everyone has a right to weigh in on how this affects them as taxpayers, of course they do, but saying you wouldnt have had surgery at 184 so therefore she shouldnt, well, that's pretty arrogant. Think about it. If it were somehow magically easier to lose the weight becuase you're 184lb and not 284, why didnt YOU do that when you were 184lb instead of having surgery? Why have YOU taken up someone else's opportunity for surgery (because of course, there's not enough for everyone is there?) when you could have just so easily lost the weight before you got heavier? Why do YOU deserve the surgery more because you've allowed yourself to get more out of control? How often did YOU lose 4lb and regain it? And how different might your life have been if you HAD actually acknowledged 184 as obese at your height and had the surgery back then before you got bigger? Its so hypocritical, it just drives me crazy.
  22. Hi Meggie, no I'm not going to repeat what everyone else here has already mentioned. Stalls suck and I hate them too. But guess what, I'm going on 9 months out and I've endured around 4 so far. Guess what else? I came right through them and I think I'm doing rather good. Does anyone disagree? Gawsh I hope not!!!! One last thing, I've lost about 80 Lbs in about 9 months now. That's less than 10 lbs per month at this point. I STILL think I'm doing good. Does anyone disagree with that too? Better not!!! I worked my butt off literally for that!!! My only advice: try to bump up your Water intake. 64 is the bare minimum. I get in about 120 oz per day. Now granted this might be impossible at 1 month out... it would have been for me, but slowly but surely try to bump it up a few more oz per day. Drinking tons of water will wash those fat cells right out. Also, when your scale is moving super slow, you are losing inches. Then you will see some good drops for a few more weeks. That is how the majority of us lose weight. Call it unlucky or whatever you want, but it is what it is. One last thing, it sounds like you are really on that workout bandwagon, and that's great! But your body is probably not real happy with the low calories you're feeding it. If you're doing a few hours per day like it sounds, you really need to up your calories by a few hundred. I usually do this by getting in an extra Protein shake. It helps and since it's Fluid its easy to get down. I personally think you're doing fantastic. Now get back out there and keep doing your thing!! xx

    It Takes Hard Work.....

People who say things like that are people who are just either stupid, ignorant, or (in this case I suspect) jealous. There's a growing body of scientific evidence that shows that for many people, it's almost impossible to lose weight the traditional way. Nobody would consider surgery just to get 10 or 15 pounds off, and I'm sure everyone here (yourself included) has a list of tried and failed "diets" a mile long. Do what you need to do, look fabulous doing it, and be proud of what you've done!

6month requirement. Gaining more than losing.

I have a thyroid issue and ended up gaining 19 pounds in the 6 months. Granted my Tsh was up to 43 (normal is 2) and I had a letter from my PCP stating that the thyroid at that level makes it impossible to lose. I was approved with no issue. I was scared to death of denial. Take it from me, a true worrier, not doing the work in these last few months is not worth the anxiety about getting approved. And of course it won be worth getting denied. GET IT TOGETHER, GIRL! You can do this!!!
