  1. WoW, Thanks for sharing your story, I had lap band 4 years ago and have had nothing but complications. Therefore, I am having a revision and removing the band and having the sleeve done I am much more nervous almost scared yet excited for the surgery and the adventure I think I amostly afraid of failing and the biggest my addiction with food!!!Fighting "Head Hunger" LOVE...1 is too many 1000x . Also, reading the horror stories on the complications thread lol. Of course there is always risk, I'm still moving forward. I to want the best out of life for me and my future with my other half and family, life is way to short to be miserable and my first surgery was cash pay, but "You know money comes and goes no regrets just do it" a friend said as I though I would have to cash pay again lol...Great story look forward to following more post! Congratulations!!!!! Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

    April Update from everyone

Where do I start I was sleeved on April 20th took 8 hrs due to many issues found while removing my lapband, on road to recovery and it's been a great 4 weeks post op, loosing weight so fast and walking 4 miles a day now, I'm 57 pounds down now since pre op weigh in. I started out at 447 on first consult in Feb and we decided my band was to tight so in April tried to unfill it but port had fliped so Dr requested urgent repair/revision with insurance company got approval the next day and booked in 6 days later. I didn't get a chance to think about worrying it happened so fast. After 12 years of my band which worked for me for about 7 of them I was now free from it and sleeved and enjoying my new life every day so much more now as those pounds I gained come off and my new body comes to life once again. Cheers Mal and Aussie Up Over is Fremont CA
  3. I was originally denied the revision to the sips but my doc talked to the doc at aetna and approved it after I go through the 3 month follow up with a nutritionist like I did when I was sleeved.
  4. I just had revision surgery on the 12th of this month. I'm so happy I had it, already down 20lbs. I was only on pain meds for 2 days and can tell you that I had more pain when I had my gallbladder removed. I wouldn't worry about the pain what you need to be concerned with is nausea however, the nursing staff does a fine job giving you everything necessary to combat this.
  5. Well the sleeve wasn't really available back then.. It started becoming a more popular option I would say 2-3 years ago and now the Plication procedure is available which you may want to research as well. I have had friends that have had the Buypass and my best friend has the Lap-Band. She spent about 15k to have it done here in the US and that was about 2 years ago. She has spent another 2 grand just in fills to maintain it.. ahhhhhh... no... NOT for me!! Plus, Dr. Ortiz actually performs a lot of revision surgeries where patients get their bands out and get a sleeve. Lori Wrights, one of his coordinators had that done. She had her revision surgery the same day as me. I researched the plication procedure and I didn't feel that it was the right fit for me.. but that was just me. It's a newer procedure and depending on the amount of weight you need to lose it may be a good fit for you.. Have you talked to one of his coordinators yet?? Either Carolyn or Lori??
  6. How do you measure your food without the scale? Girl I take it everywhere esp when I go to my parents house for dinner. They laugh at me but I don't care. I'm serious I seen too many ppl do revisions.

Can't get enough calories to exercise...

I have a lap band but am revising to bypass. I had to see the nut and she instructed me to make my menu plans with a Protein and a energy. as she called it. like fruit would be the energy. look at the menu plans your nut gave you to see what is listed. if you are only getting in protein you may feel fatigue.

    Flying to Tijuana in April

Alex, what made you choose the mini-bypass over regular gastric bypass? But back on topic: I had sleeve surgery in Tijuana with Dr. Garcia of Tijuana Bariatrics. I liked him, and had no complications, but I have not been wildly successful losing weight. I considering a revision surgery.
  9. I was banded in 2010. I did really great on the diet and lost around 30 lbs. I was going to the gym at least 3x per week until my knees started Killing me! I couldn't take my prescription anti-inflammatories because of the band. Once they were out of my system (I stopped them just prior to my band placement - I didn't realize how much knee pain they were conceling), I could hardly walk up & down stairs. It was awful. Of course I couldn't exercise so I started gaining some of the weight back. I went to an Ortopedic surgeon who tried shots in the knees to no avail. This surgeon did not want to do replacement surgery & told me I'd needed to lose weight! I'm in my 50's, so not being able to even do my housework tasks helped me gain the weight back. About a month ago I got something stuck in my band (it was something I'd been able to eat before) and violently vomited. It was a Sunday so I couldn't go to my Bariatric Surgeon's office. I suffered all night long to the point of pucking up my own saliva. The stuck food was NOT moving. I went in the next day and had a doc remove all the fluid. I found out on a later visit with my Surgeon that my band has slipped.I'm so done with the band! I'm having it taken out & am considering the sleeve (my surgeon encouraged me to switch; he answered all my questions) - I just want to make the right decision. I feel like I've failed at every "diet" possible to man & now I've failed at the LapBand...am worried I'll fail yet again on the sleeve. No matter how much you tell yourself you have to change your diet and exercise, those old temptations come back. I could eat the "bad" things with the band, but not always the "good" things I wanted, like scrambled eggs. I could eat a wafle, but not scrambled eggs??? Ridiculous! Sometimes I could eat granola, sometimes I couldn't! It drove me crazy! I feel that having the band was a big mistake for me. Now I'm just hoping my insurance will pay to remove the band; it has to come out, & approve a switch to the sleeve. I just am not certain about having that revision????
  10. Her pouches stretched so they made it smaller again. She never got "skinny" she's 5'10 and she's 160 looks great. She was 360 before surgery 215 before revision.
  11. I hope some of the others pop in here. I've chosen to stay on my Prilosec, and not wean off of it. The long term side effects are truly minimal, and I'm not willing to feel like crap just to avoid popping a Prilosec. I know there's a few around here that have had success getting off the PPI. I am not willing to deal with rebound acid, or any of the other symptoms of acid reflux. I didn't have reflux before my revision, and I don't plan on suffering from it now. My surgeon agrees that me staying on it is not an issue. I won't even test the waters to get off of it. Some patient's reflux improves, or is resolved, and others have it worsen. It's kind of "luck of the draw" on this one in my opinion.
  12. i'm being revised tomorrow and I'm a nervous wreck!!! Unsure why - been anxious for a few days.. I was so ready in March, then April, and here I am and nervous!

    Hi! New here!

Hey y'all! I am so glad to hear your stories. I was banded October 2013, the too loose/ too tight yo-yo for over a year, emptied March 2015 for 6 weeks for a concentric slip, refilled, too loose/ too tight again yo-yo for another year, then the emergency room in distress April 2016. Thankfully un-filling was enough to relieve the distress, but in testing they found again, my band has slipped. My insurance has approved the sleeve revision for 2 June, this Thursday. I am currently on my day 8 of 10 days of pre-op liquids and looking forward to what my future holds. The band gave me restriction of portions, but I was always hungry. I am happy with the loss of weight I was able to keep off with my band, but my excitement has been renewed because I am sure I can get off a considerable amount more. I keep checking back to this site for all the information I can get. It is really good to hear stories that I can relate to. Thank you for posting about yours!

    leg press machine

My port stuck out so far from all the weight that I lost, it bumped into everything and was pretty painful so last year I had a port revision surgery and my doctor put a smaller port in under my stomach muscle and it is so much better. It no longer hurts during workouts and it doesn't get banged around anymore.
  15. I don't think you'll be disappointed with your decision. I had the revision from the Band to MGB in Dec of last year and couldn't be happier. I had the band for 12 years and never lost any weight. Now, since having the MGB I've lost 83 lbs in 7 months. I always hated how the band felt when I ate, now I just feel full. It's not painful or aggravating like that band was. Good Luck to you!
  16. Hi, Had my band in 2010 and my revision to a sleeve 1/23/17. I can tell you so far so good. Surgery went well per the doc. Was in the hosptial over night & home the next afternoon. I'm allergic to pretty much all narcordics so i was in a bit more pain than probably should've been. Still it wasn't that unbearable. Biggest thing i've learned this time around is that i'm truly not hungry, even before the surgery. I think it was the premeir Protein shakes, they did their job. I realized though that we just eat out of habit at home. My biggest struggle right now is getting the 64 oz fluids in and i believe that's because i wasn't taking my time sipping. I've slowed down and things have gotten better. On the pureed food as of yesterday. I down 26 lbs as of this morning and plan on getting back into the gym next week and on full gym routine by the start of March.

    Dr. Kelly vs. Dr. Aceves

Like everyone else, I am thrilled w/my experience w/Dr. Aceves....my revision couldn't have gone better

    Dr. Kelly vs. Dr. Aceves

I had my revision with Dr. Aceves - and never have anything but rave reviews for him, the hospital and his staff. That said, I've not come across any bad information about Dr. Kelly except one time. I've also never seen an actual account of that incidence either, it was just hearsay IMO. I KNOW for a fact based on my own personal experience that Dr. Aceves is an excellent choice. Good luck!!
  21. What We know what living obese is like. We know the lost opportunities of obesity. We know the rush of gluttony ... of sugar racing thru the veins of finally feeling full. We know fat prejudice. We know the health challenges. What we forget: The courage it takes to make a change. The power of self love to commit to body altering surgery The commitment. To this new life... We’ve been fat longer. We’ve eaten badly longer. We’ve eaten our emotions longer. We are naturally better at obesity then at being post surgery. It’s easy, comfortable even to fall back into familiar stinking thinking and food. What are you doing for your new way of life that supports staying on track? How are you retraining your mind? Be mindful of the favorite foods that helped to keep you fat. They will sing their siren song and woo you back if you do not change your thinking. Is there a revision surgery in your future? Is food going to win....again? I’m wishing everyone a safe and wonderful Christmas where the food gremlins don’t pull you back into their seductive arms. Be vigilant. Be courageous. Be full of self love and stay the course! (Can you hear me struggling[emoji8])
  22. The main difference is since my sleeve did not get revised, I don't have the tightness when food hits my sleeve like before. Also you heal much faster at 2.5 weeks I can eat anything I've tried so far. This week I've had chicken and even meatloaf. I still chew forever because I don't know how long it takes my small intestines to heal. I've lost 16lbs since surgery. Weight loss is slower the second time around, but I expected that. 23. I am looking for Boston people that love their surgeon. Specifically to do either a DS or a SIPS procedure. It’s ok if you don’t know if they do or not I will call around thanks!!
  24. Hi there. I work for DOE too. I however, have the HIP prime. I Am having a revision. You aren’t going to die. The medical field has made great stride. What surgeon are you meeting with? Each program require a different things. Emblem health who covers ghi and hip doesn’t require the 6 months visits anymore (stopped last year) that is what certain programs want. They want to be able to see that you are committed to this. also if you’re afraid of acid reflux I will highly consider doing your research on the sleeve and GERD. I know of a few people at my program who revised from the sleeve to RNY due to developing gerd after the sleeve.
  25. My surgeon broke his foot and does not have the stamina to do a long revision surgery so I am rescheduled for Sept 17. I really love my surgeon & want him to be at his best! So.. Looking for Sept. Bypass buddies, esp revision!
