3 weeks post op and depressed.

You could just have described me! I am almost 2 weeks post op and other than the acid reflux (doc said to take Prilosec for 3 months to keep acid down and the stomach heals). I lost 7#'s the first week after surgery. I am getting in at least 60g of Protein. I'm drinking 60+ oz of Water. I eat soup (tomato mainly) - and I can eat the entire can - I didn't think I would be able to. I haven't lost any #'s the last week. I feel like I didn't even have surgery! I'm hoping when I get to the pureed stage that I will fill up with small amounts. I'm not depressed - I'm just concerned that I'm not doing enough of something or too much of another; I know about the 3 week stall but I haven't heard of a less than 2 week stall! :/ I'm also 3-wks post op and not loving life. I have very little discomfort unless I take too big a swallow of something (my own fault). My biggest frustration is that I'm not losing weight. I lost 10 lbs the first 7 days and since then nothing. Here I am 3wks post op and I've only lost 10 lbs. I hear other people at 3wks lost 20+ lbs. I try not to compare myself but jeeze I'm bumbed. I'm logging every bite (range between 800 - 900 calories/day) and every sip of water (40-60 oz/day) and every bit of exercise (walking about 2 miles every other day). Oh, another crazy thing is the lovely acid reflux I have every time I eat (never had that before - yummy!). And, when I drink water, soup, or any liquid, my internal plumbing likes to grunt, groan, and gurgle until air bubbles come up as burps. I can stifle the burps but I can't control the other noises and my co-workers are noticing and giving looks. Yup, so I'm there with ya on the frustration platform.

  3. My program make us lose about 5-10% of our weight before surgery so the liver would be smaller on the day of operation. But I've seen other programs are different. But absolutely, tall to your doctor. If the nurse didn't help much, Doctor it is.

    Needing Sleeve Buddies

I had surgery 10/10. Initially I felt fine with little pain. I went through the 10-day pre-op diet (Clear liquids, nothing greater than 5 Cal/serving, outside of the 1/2 stength gatorade). But I was weak. Surgar free Jello was my saving grace, thought I was eating gold. I''m in week 3 (2 weeks post op) I was progressed to soft - thin cream of chicken and potato Soups were my best friends. I am now on modified regular and doing well with the diet. One hiccough was the melon mix-up. The list said melon, so I went with my favorite fruit - watermelon. I had 2 bouts of explosive diarrhea, thought I had the flu. Next day it dawned on me that it could be the watermelon. I tried it again, smaller amount and had a bout of diarrhea within 30 min. I know now that watermelon is not for me yet. I wish I had joined a support goup before surgery, but at least earlier than I did, as many questions arose and I felt foolish calling the doctor. But I know I shouldn't have. I have only lost 1 lb in the last 3 weeks and it's making me crazy. My doctor says, don't worry about the weight, just stick to the plan and all will be well. But I am still worried sick that I'm doing something wrong. I haven't exercised as much as I should have, as I felt weak. About 2 weeks ago, on Tuesday I woke up full of energy and have been moving a lot every since, but still no weight loss. Any advice - I promise not to be so long-winded next time.

    Aceves Question

I just got back home from surgery last night. We flew into San Diego and the driver picked us up there and brought us back there when it was time to fly back out. We did need spending money for our last meal which is about $25-$30 a person depending on what you eat and I also bought my meds there because I wasn't sure if I could get the specific medication here in the states that I needed and for 5 boxes of Nexium Mumps and 2 boxes of Supra doll pain meds it was about $150.00. Other than tiping dirver and buying a drink at the airport for traveling home thats all that I needed other than meds. Now if someone comes along with you they will have to buy their meals. My husband ate his meals at the hospital cafeteria and loved the food, plus it was very affordable. Nothing he ate was over $10 bucks and they were very large portions as well. He made 2 meals out of some of the meals. So it all depends on how much you want to take. They do take credit cards so that is helpful too. I hope this helps.
  6. OMG 40/10! I've never seen a blood pressure that low. I hope they find out what's going on. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

    BMI

And with that, I really don't need to say much more... Hahaa!! Anyway, I've said a million times that I'll never be in the healthy range according to my BMI. I really don't plan to lose more than 10 or 15 more Lbs at this point. If that keeps me in "overweight" ... oh well. I know I'm healthier today than I have ever been in my life and I can do more physically than folks 10 years younger than me!!! I'm totally ok with that.

    The surgery journey begins

THREE DAYS UNTIL SURGERY!!! Let me tell you (and myself in case I forget or get feeling sorry for myself later) that the excitement IS REAL! After today, it’s only the Optifast shakes for 24 hours. No more protein bars or soups or anything. But I can do this. I’m a little discouraged by the past couple days. I’ve been drinking over 100oz of water a day with 5 Optifast products and 2 servings of jello. The first 6 days, I dropped a pound a day. But now, I’m stalled. Is it the water? I’m not peeing nearly as much as I was in the first week despite drinking more water now than I was then. I feel like my hormones are all out of whack now. I have the worst period I’ve had since my early 20’s. Heavy, crampy and nonstop for 5 days now. I have the Nexplanon implant in my arm, which I’ve had since January 2017. After 4 months I had completely stopped having periods and it was a magnificently glorious time in my life. Now it’s like all those missed periods are getting together for one giant party. It’s awful. They also brought 5 nice pimples with them. They weren’t there yesterday, but I looked in the mirror this morning and BAM! Say hello to my little friends! I’m just feeling really down. Have I done something wrong? Why can’t I lose those few extra pounds? Am I bloated? Too much water? Too much protein? Just crazy hormones? WTH? My surgeon doesn’t have a weight loss requirement for me before surgery Thursday since I’ve already lost 53 pounds on my own, but I feel like I’m a failure before I’ve even really started. Is this foretelling my future? Am I going to be a mess who can’t even lose weight after having a sleeve? I’m excited by the surgery getting closer, but the overwhelming feeling now is that I’m disappointing everyone but myself most of all. HW: 311 CW: 257 SW: We’ll see on May 10! 11. Hi. I had my surgery Nov 4 2010. I've lost 69 pounds and feel great.... But, I want to to lose the last 40 and it will not come off. I've been working out with a trainer and eatting 1200-1500 calories a day. My Protein is 60 - 80g per day. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I love my sleeve and so happy I did this but just wish this last 40 would go away . I eat 5 small meals a day. Usually about 6oz servings. I'm worried I've lost all I will lose. I've been stuck at the same weight for 10 months. sw- 256 cw-187 gw-140 Thank you! Katie

    Diabetic Newbie

I know you didn't ask me but i'm volunteering the information. I am on a medication called Trulicity. I haven't lost a significant amount of weight (10 lbs) but it has helped my A1C. Before my last A1c of 5.9, it was 6.6. However, I have made significant diet changes..no fast food and limiting the carbs so I am sure that has contributed to the low A1c. I think Victozia has to be taken daily and Trulicity is only once a week. My endocrinologist told me that after about 6 months, the weight you lose from these medications always comes back
  14. So, I know people will have different answers to this. i am curious what different people did, or experienced with relation to diet and activity and work. I am pre-op, sleeve to be done late Oct or early Nov. I'm looking for your post-op experience, in weeks, like maybe.... week 1 liquids--felt tired but ok, not hungry Week 2 went back to work on day 9 after surgery Week 2-4 purees and liquid --craving real food but not truly hungry week 4-5---still working, but more tired than I thought I'd be.... week 5 ---started solids, 5-6 tablespoons So, if you would, please give me your simplified first 6-8-10 weeks, and what was going on for you in terms of post-op foods, work activity, hunger, feelings, whatever you'd like to share. I just get overwhelmed by the massive amount of info online, I am readin and watching videos (Dr Weiner on You tube!!!) But, I'd love to see some real-live-post-op VSG people break it down in a really basic form. Thanks!!

  16. I'd like to second (or third) the motion for coffee. I had not gone for ~9 - 10 days and I was dying for a cup of coffee. My husband had brewed his usual morning coffee and I asked for just a little demitasse cup, with splenda and powdered creamer. It was literally under 2 ounces of coffee. I was thinking I probably didn't need to "go" much as I haven't had solid foods. Well let me tell you the coffee worked magic and the amount was astonishing. Sorry for being graphic, but I hope you find some magic to give you relief. It does take time for the bowel to recover from surgery, anesthesia and narcotics. Take care. ~Jane
  17. I feel the same was sleeved 10/4/17 also. First sip of water when I came home I had dry heaves... horrible. I still have quite a bit of pain & am trying not to use the pain medication. When I sip anything I can feel the pain in my stomach as it goes down. Nervous to drink too much or too little. Anyone have suggestions? Sent from my XT1635-01 using BariatricPal mobile app

  19. Welcome from Texas to you all. You will love this site and your band. I will be a month out tomorrow and have dropped 19 pounds and 20 inches. Can't believe it will be a month. My surgery went very smoothly in and out in about four hours. I am sorry about you not knowing about the shoulder gas pain. Mine has finally all went away. Best of luck to you all. If I can help you further just PM me.

I was banded on 10-13. I thought that the heating pad really helped, as did taking gas-X under the tongue strips. I feel much better today than I did yesterday.

Hi Tamika, That's exciting ! I just had my done last Friday 10/10. I didn't have any heavy nausea but very uncomfortable for the first few days. A few things I wish I knew ahead of time were that the scale went up 9lbs ( just from the fluids we're given during/after surgery). It came right off within a few days but I didn't know what is was from. The best advice I can give you is to follow you doc's instructions as closely as you can. What hospital are you going to? I live in RI now but originally from the Boston area and wish I lived up that way so I could have gone to a MA hospital and used the docs up there. My doc is good but I just always preferred Boston/ MA hospitals since I grew up there. Everything will be fine just know that you'll have a few slow moving / uncomfortable days. Make sure to walk and ask the doc what to take for constipation as you can expect that. Good Luck ... I'll watch for more of you're postings next week ....

    4cc Band anyone?

    1) Although I never chose the cc capacity of my band, I was wondering why I had a 4cc as opposed to most people who have 10 or 14cc. 2) Also, I read that in the end, when filled to the max, all bands (regardless of cc #) all have the same diameter. Is this true?

    Alone

Gonna tell you a little story which I am sure a few of the readers have heard. I have struggled with weight loss ALL my life, weight watchers, full on liquid diets that were promoted from my local hospital, Jenny Craig, personal trainers with low fat diets. You know the whole up and down routine, not that I ate horrible food, but I liked to eat salad, meat/potato etc..Portion control was one of my biggest issues. I met my ex husband (YES EX) and I was a size 16, then due to a skiing accident where I had to have my knee reconstructed I put on some weight and ended up a size 18. We got married and I was back east not knowing anyone and he had to travel for work sometimes up to 3 months at a time. I put on more weight eventually at a size 24. However right after we got married I started to hear you need to exercise, you need to lose weight, you can diet eat this and that. I will show you how, (mind you he had a belly and looked pregnant) But I NEEDED to get down to what he deemed to be a good size for me about a size 2 and he would show me stick women (not making fun of anyone but Women that were 5ft8-5ft 10 with LONG legs.. very lean.. I am 5ft4 with short legs, and usually an hourglass shape even when down to a size 12. No way in hell I am going to be straight up and down and look more like a gymnast. When I finally decided to go for a consult, I got the same grief. That is the easy way out, you can do it on your own, you don't have enough will power, it is all in your head and the list goes on. I heard it will cost too much money, however it was going to be covered for the most part via insurance. I had lost my Father to Cardiac Arrest suddenly, knowing heart issues, diabetes, high blood pressure etc ran in my family which made me really decide. Then my Mother ended up being diagnosed with Colon Cancer, so we add another thing to the list. I made the decision, he kinda did the support coming to the hospital etc but sort of felt like he was my hall monitor. I had to tell him to really back the hell off and I had decided at that point that I did not trust his intentions. He had made comments such as when you lose weight are you going to leave me? During the pre op diet I was on full liquids only for 2 weeks. I was at home and what magically appears in the house but him with a couple of bags of nothing but junk food. Everything from tasty cakes, ice cream, chips, dip, chocolate bars (king size Hershey the MEGA ones which he sat and ate a whole one himself) It really drove it home that for someone to love you and to try to support you that would actually make a junk food stop intentionally when you cannot eat. If this was a normal thing that was done then it would have been far more acceptable, but it was not the normal thing done in the house. I got through surgery, it was interesting how as my ass started to get smaller and I was getting more curvy vs round that he couldn't keep his hands off me. His reactions and jealous behavior when I needed to be with my family through my Mothers Cancer struggle and then when she died, It was pretty much putting me in the middle of a Dying Mother, my sister who had a child under a year old, and him who was generally gone most of the time anyway. He wanted me home even though he wouldn't be there anyway. We did go through the motions of some Marriage counseling, but honestly I was flat out DONE at that point. I was getting my ducks in a row,a last ditch effort he actually canceled all my authorized credit cards that were with him THINKING that he could stop me from doing anything. I had backup credit cards he was not aware of, socked money aside, made my game plan, got storage and moved stuff out. Finally leaving, and filing for divorce the same day. I stayed with friends in a couple of different location before moving back to California. I did have some Fluid backed out because I was unsure when I could get my band checked. Move forward to now I am happily living with the most awesome/smart wonderful man. He never really paid much attention to me having the band there wasn't much restriction. I went May 24th and had another fill and have another Doc visit July 12th. He went in with me and got some of the lowdown on how the band works, came in, knows my weight, loves me anyway. He is 6ft3 with long ole legs, and a high metabolism. He loves my short roundish stuff, he fixes us Protein shakes in the morning, he cooks band friendly foods and keeps it at smaller quantities, smaller plates and I can talk to him about my kinky relationship with food. When I went through mourning again for it, when I had a few stuck episodes, he is supportive. We hit the pool together, and he just picked us up some yoga mats because I have expressed interest. I never hear anything about my weight, how I need to lose it to be this or that, we do not fight or argue. We are best of friends and there isn't anything I cannot tell him. He went out and researched gummy Vitamins so that I can keep up on them and not have to swallow all those pills and brought them home! I guess what I want to tell you is that you might love this guy, or you might think you do. Maybe he does Love you in his own way, however sometimes people settle to be with someone and it is not the right situation. Sometimes so called LOVE can be in a manner that is not healthy. People do really bizarre and weird stuff to people they supposedly love and want to be with. There is a REALLY good chance that as you go on with the program and you learn about yourself, get stronger and lose weight you might very well find out that he is not the guy for you. Hold onto your thoughts, dreams, and your own goal. There will be so called friends, relationships, even family members that will say negative things, that will try to sabotage you on your journey. I lost a few friends over the band, I did get a divorce, I did go skydiving and put my head back on straight! I got through all my changes and losses and had some doors close behind me. However I was lucky in taking those risks, that journey that I made and found something that I NEVER thought I would find, MYSELF! So you go and find that kick ass girl that I know you have inside, be strong, be truthful, love yourself! Good luck in your journey! Hugs
  24. I had losses, gains, and stalls but I averaged my weight loss by the formula...pounds lost divided by days out of surgery. Almost a pound a day at first then it went down to .3 pounds a day, then .1 pounds a day. But the thing is..on the average it still was going down. It got real slow right around my goal weight. Now I am 8-10 pounds under goal weight. I concentrated much more on exercise than I did on weight loss, turned myself into a lifelong athlete. I have quit working out now, my daily work with my nephew in the dock building business is far beyond workouts. I seldom weigh myself but I notice that my saggy skin appears to be tightening up a bit. My muscles are rock hard.
