Moms With Young Children....
Avillias replied to gingersnap's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh wow that's a great Question, I was wondering the same thing as I have 5 kids 10, 5, 3, and two 1 year olds and all I have is my husband for about 7 days because my family members don't know yet and don't live near me. Just praying I will be fine after the 7 days so I can take over, which means taking kids to dance, gymnastics, Catechism and everything else around the house. -

That is awesome for you ! This is what I've had done so far : Ok here is what I've had so far: 3/13 dr suggested seminar 3/28 seminar 4/15 mental health (cleared) 4/16 gynecologist (cleared) 4/19 my dr (referred) 4/19 nutritional group seminar (make diary of food) 4/25 mammogram (physician required) 4/27 I had physical and history. Then on may 20 I have a 1 on 1 with a dietician. I have BCBSIL. I called my insurance early on and they didn't say I needed anything other than what my physician and Dr. O 'Malley require so hopefully that means I'll get a date soon too. Oh and I was smoking, so I have to be 6 weeks smoke free ( next week!!) then I take the blood test. I can't wait I'm getting impatient! Lol! -

6 weeks after bypass and have only lost 18 pounds still!
catwoman7 replied to GiGi 1970's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
P.S. if you're expecting to drop like 30 lbs a month, you need to adjust your expectations. Almost no one loses that much that quickly unless they're the size of someone on "My 600 lb Life". Unfortunately, I think shows like that give people unrealistic ideas and expectations about weight loss surgery. Us "normal" WLS patients, with very few exceptions, just don't lose that fast. After the first month, many of us settle into about a 10-lb a month (give or take) rate...and the further out you get, the slower the loss. -
I have tried the Muscle Milk Lite in chocolate in the past, and just bought some today because I'm going back to work tomorrow. I got my band on 12/31/10. I've not found any protein drink that I will say that I LIKE however MM lite is drinkable for me.

Hi Linda, Thanks for the welcome. So far I went to the seminar on 3/11/14. Then I just had my meeting with the patient advocate 3/17/14. I have my first meeting with Dr. Uchal on 3/27/14. My choice is for the sleeve. I am excited and a little nervous too. So far it looks like my surgery might be in July. I would love to keep in touch, if that is ok. I am trying to find people to talk with that understand. Right now the support of 4 of my doctors, and my husband is supportive. Others that I have tried to talk to about this and why I am choosing this, well, they care and are not really in agreement or support of this choice.... plus they start to plant 'doubts' in my head... to make me feel like I will not be disciplined enough etc. I know they mean well, but it really starts to hurt. I know my parents would have been supportive, but sadly my mom passed away 14 years ago,and my dad passed away Sept.2013. Anyway, I thank you for your reply. Hope I didn't say too much...lol Sincerely, Angi Tomorrow I am headed out of town for a week. I am going to friend you and send you a personal message. Advice to you: My husband and I told no one of the surgery except daughter, nurse and cousin who had WLS. The more people you tell, the more chatter you will get. Seems like you are talking to a lot of people and see it already. Spend your time on here talking to the experts who have had the sleeve and know what it is about. Have your husband read with you. I feel like a million dollars 4 months post op, and Dr. Uchal and his staff has us from hello. We went to seminars for 10 years.....so we researched well before we did the sleeve. Would love to guide you Angi, as it was scary for us also. We had a lot of health issues. Linda Hello again. I agree with you. The first time I considered surgery, I talked to quite a bit of people that i knew... looking back I know it was because I was not quite ready and sure in my decision. This time, I knew deep down I am ready, it is for the right reasons... so I have told very few. The hard part is a 2 of the few are not happy with me and my choice, and they seem to be freezing me out... but I just have to move forward... I look forward to days ahead and I would love your guidance and friendship... I appreciate that very much. I look forward to having a better quality of life... Talk to you soon...

Hello everyone my name is Tywoana, I live in Phenix City Al. I am a 41 year oldwife and mother of 3 son's. My oldest was killed in 2011. I was always overweight but once my son was killed I gained over 100 lbs. I tried to lose the weight knowing that it wasnt healthy for me but the more I lost the more I gained. I decided last year that I would look into having the sleeve and the job I had at the time excluded WLS from their coverage. I then made a life changing decision to go to a job that would cover so in September of 2013 I left my job of 10 years to start over at Wellpoint. I tried to start the process in 2013 but was misquoted on the coverage and the discouraged. I pulled myself together and did my research found out the info I had received was wrong. I had my first visit with my surgeon at the end of February. I was provided a list of what I would need to do. I completed it all in March and was given my approval at the end of March. My surgery date in the 28th and I have been staying busy to avoid the jitters. People that I would tell about my plans always say something dumb to rock my confidence so at this point I only confide here and with my husband and 2 sons. I want to say thank each of you for being so informative and welcoming!

Anyone have their gallbladder removed after their surgery?
SilviaCC replied to avm1014's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm so sorry you are not feeling well. The first advice that I can give you is call your doctor and go see him/her. Let them know how you are feeling. I had gastric bypass done 10 years ago and I remember that the first days were fine, but around 2 months after I couldn't even drink water. Your symptoms could be do to several possible causes. Some people just experience this normally a few months after surgery. Or it could be that the bile that was stores before in your gallbladder is working differently to help with digestion. Some people develop scar tissue around the incision from the gastric bypass surgery. It could be different things or just the body attempting to recover after two surgeries. I remember I could only drink Crystal Light for about 4 months after the surgery, as water would make me gag. I'd make an appointment with your doctor to make sure everything's working well. It's always good to check. Good luck on your road to recovery! Life will be normal again. It takes a while, but it gets better! -
Funny observation about clothes post-surgery
sixtus6 replied to gpmed's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was sleeved 5 months ago and have lost 70 pounds so far, going from a "tight" 18 to a 10 in 5 months!! I shop almost exclusively at thrift shops because I am losing weight so fast I can't justify the retail purchases (that will come later...when I am at goal). I am finding all kinds of great brands and I am having the best time and feel good about not breaking the bank!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Funny observation about clothes post-surgery
pr_pitbullgrl replied to gpmed's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
one other thing i will tell you. if you order a dress from china (which i did by accident) an XL is apparently a size 10 there. smh. and even then it's tight! also the quality sucks. like i literally brought a whole nother change of clothes just in case this dress ripped down the middle seam. just an fyi. -
I haven't been around in a while because I've been pre-occupied with my pregnancy. I called my band surgeon's office as soon as I found out I was pregnant and they suggested that I have an un-fill as soon as possible, due to the potential for slippage with morning sickness. (which, by the way I still have morning sickness, evening sickness...) My OB also wanted me to have an un-fill because she was concerned about getting proper nutrition. And of course, due to me having an un-fill at 6 weeks pregnant, I have now gained 12 lbs in only 10 weeks (I'm 16 weeks now).

Pregnant with the lap band!
mommy3boys replied to Frisky's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I got pregnant with my 3rd son shortly after having my first fill and 4 months after having band surgery. My ob/gyn and midwife both said that as long as a could eat to keep my fill since it was the only thing keeping from gaining an excessive amount of weight. I weight 270, developed hypertension, had a c-section and had a 10 lb with son #2. Son #3 has very fast, delivered by midwife 1 hour after I arrived at hospital, no c-section, he weighed 7 lbs and I weighed 210 when he was born. At my 6 six check up, he weighed 10 lbs and I weighed 180. Ana -

Couple of random questions..
Joe I replied to JessicaAnn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No c-section for me either my surgeon did the leak test durring the operation, the pain was not bad I took pain meds while in the hospital but none since I've home, 10 days post op. The best advice I can give you is to be in the best physical condition you can before you have the procedure it will make it all go so much better, at least it did for me, good luck -
I think the worst is over
djw6171 replied to djw6171's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks, all. I will continue to take care of myself. I have no choice about the long days but my boss knows what is going on so besides my actual teaching time (9-12 adn 6-9),I can take it easy. So far, I have lost 10 pounds as well! I know this pace won't stay but it sure is nice motivation and helps to not regret the decision during the pain!!! -
I have a desk job. Had surgurey on Thursday and back to work on Monday. It hurt but I was able to do it. Good Luck. Band 3/11/10

I honestly felt worse with root canals and having all 4 wisdom teeth extracted and then walking 2 miles in the ☔ rain. Why did I walk home in the rain? Couldn't find anyone to drive me, was about half the age I am now and like Travis Tritt, I was" 10 feet tall and bulletproof", Would I do it again? No way I have 2 artificial knees, too many years of playing catcher, I'm twice as old, smarter? Now that is debatable, and besides I developed dry sockets. Now THAT is a miserable occurance. But post-surgery pain? Somewhere between too many sit-ups and pist-partum pain, closer to the first. And that's at its worst, just remember while you were asleep someone was in with an eggbeayer but things do settle down soon. And a new better life start an and I know it is worth all the inconvenience for the gains you receive.

If you want to take them off now, you can. 10 days is enough time. It helps if you do it right after a shower or if you take a washcloth run under fairly hot Water and then dab it over the strips. It makes it easier to pull off. Also, Maggy's Mom had a good point about the black goo. I found that baby oil on a soft cloth works to get it off. Good luck with your new sleeve!

I am so sorry you are experiencing this but hope they can get to the bottom of your issue. (This is for the benefit of other people reading this later), but, why in the world did you wait until you were in the ER and 10 days after discharge to call your surgeon? Didn he or she not give you a 24-hour phone number to call if you were experiencing difficulties?
