The really great thing about the sleeve is it has freed me from the control of food. I have had a really bad week and not once did I turn to food for comfort. It was the farthest thing from my mind, heck I even skipped dinner a couple nights, (ya that kind of bad). Don't get too sad about food, you will eat pretty much anything you want again, just not in the quantity you do now.

I just got back from a 5+ mile hike with my husband. The elevation change was only 700 feet BUT IT WAS EASY!!! I could of done a lot more and was able to hold a conversation all the way through when we were on our way back I felt so good, I felt like a could have jogged part of the trail! That's all Update: I should say that my husband wore a 40 pound pack because he's getting ready to hike slot canyon next week and we just got home he's dropping me off so he can go to the gym and work his upper body... But I still feel good even though I'm married to superman

The fills take a couple of weeks to fully take effect. Just monitor your hunger level and see if it decreases. For me, I had my first fill of 5.5ccs, I felt about the same, then a few weeks later my hunger was gone, almost completely. Also if you had a really small fill.. like 1 or 2ccs you may not feel anything.. but it takes a while for your body to figure it all out.

Love this topic! For me, like the rest of you, 2011 was a banner year. January to February I spent going through the motions and various required visits for insurance to cover VSG. This included various freak outs as to what I was doing and if I would ever eat normal again. March 1st became an icon date in my life when I had surgery. I literally feel my life should be measured pre and post VSG. I lost weight very quickly- more than 50 lbs. in two months. As I dropped weight I found a level of confidence that I am not sure I have ever possessed previously. In June, I applied for a position on a lark that seemed waaaayyyy out of the realm of possibility. Well, the confidence came through and they hired me! In July, I decided it was time to pursue a goal that I secretly thought unattainable and signed up for a 1/2 marathone training program even though I could barely run a mile. Two weeks ago, I ran 14!!! Over the course of this year I have lost 111 lbs, and gone from a tight 24 to a solid 14 (and sometimes 12). Heck, I even lost a shoe size! This year has been equal parts amazing and terrifying. I am not sure I ever realized how scary it would be facing food demons and embracing all that I have to offer the world. Have you guys noticed that too or is it just me? Regardless, yay for us!! Amanda

Your not alone I am real sorry. I had mine done in Mexico and went to have fill. After three people trying no good. Found out one side of port came loose and the needle just pushed it away. I was very bummed and decided not to get a fill for two years. I can't do it I have not lost any weight and I fell bad. I am going to mexico on 9th to have fixed and finally a fill. Hope every thing is still ok. Any find out what is going on and get a fill you did the lap band for a reason use it. I wish you lots of luck -
Horrible day,had first fill or shall I say attempt
2009LB replied to 2009LB's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
They said they are going to do an xray next time then attempt again next week. Hopefully it will work or I will be really pissed off. Yeah I am kind of upset with their service because they are like call us if we don't call you by friday. Seriously? I totally agree about what was said above, they placed it there. They should know. This next time I am only going to let the surgeon attempt the fill, and no one else. It's like I know I got over the major part...surgery, but this is aggravating. -
Wondering if anyone could help me figure this out?
Foxbins replied to GonnaLoseIt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would count all of the Protein grams and guess at the carbs. If you eat 1/4 of the veggies, then count 6 carbs--1/3 of the veggies would be 8. If you want something quick to eat when you are pressed for time, what about steaming or boiling some shrimp? They are good cold with a squirt of lemon and a drizzle of olive oil. Or hard-boiled eggs--I used to boil a bunch at the beginning of the week and make egg salad or just eat them with salt and pepper. They were ready-made no matter what I decided. Also, you could make some turkey chili on the weekend and eat that during the week. As someone who used to live on frozen prepared meals, the food I fix from scratch tastes so much better to me, and I'm not getting all that sodium from the boxed meals. Just a thought! -
Your not even a week out. How you feel is normal. I will be 3 weeks out tomorrow and I still get tired easily. I feel a nap coming on soon....LOL The pains are normal too. It could be from gas or your incisions. Take the pain meds that will help you sleep. Take it easy and take care of yourself.

My Biggest FEAR is not the Operation but....
mezanne1401 replied to JMS's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What you are feeling is completely normal. I was concerned also that I would still want to eat as much as I did before surgery, but after surgery was a whole different story. I have very little desire to eat most of the time. I do not have near as many cravings as I did before surgery. That for me is the best part in that I am not craving unhealthy foods. The day of my surgery, I went into the operating room starving to death. I had been on a two shake a day diet for two weeks and was ready to gnaw my own arm off to satisfy the hunger. Thankfully, I restrained and still have both of my limbs. When I was back in my room after surgery, I realized quickly that I wasn't hungry. For the rest of the day, I expected to be hungry as I normally would be, and I never was. The next day, same thing. I had my surgery on November 12, and even now I am not hungry most of the time. Sometimes, when I do feel hunger, it is strangely enough heartburn. I take some Gaviscon liquid and the hunger goes anyway. Many days, I have to force myself to eat something. There are days however when I do feel hungry quite a bit. I will take a couple of bites of a protein of some sort, and the hunger will go away and usually will stay away with the more protein that I eat. So, what you are feeling is a normal fear. Keep your head up and good luck with your surgery at the end of the month. -
Weight myself down 5lbs in 2days that's 50lbs since surgery 8/28 still. No appetite but I'm working on it!!!!!!!" Mz Shay

Recovery Period Weight Loss/gain?
MissManda85 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery 3/29/2012. I dropped down 17lbs before surgery (258 to 241). Afterward, I gained 8lbs right after surgery, then dropped down to 239lbs a couple days after surgery. I was 241lbs when I went to my 1 week post op check in. I get my first fill this Thursday, and my weight is up to 248lbs =/ anyone else yo-yo like this? I drink plenty of Water, get walking in, eat 3 meals a day. I have my menstrual cycle starting now, so I account for a couple of the pounds being water weight because I always "gain" around this time of the month. I just don't want to go in for the fill and wonder if gaining 7lbs since my last weigh in will be a bad thing or if anyone else has experienced it. Inch wise, I'm smaller. Eating hasn't been too bad. I eat slow and chew well, some things go down better than others. But with the fill coming up, I have no idea what to expect! Thanks for any input =) Manda -

I've been bouncing back between 190-192 for 2 weeks. Last night I was PMSing and decided to have some red wine. 4 ozs led to 8ozs which led to dark chocolate and peanut butter which led to tortilla chips which led to candied pecans!!!!! A mini binge yes, seeing as though they weren't large quantities, but a binge no less. I woke up this morning at 188!!!! So is this how you break a stall? Break all the rules and go nuts for a day??? Btw I'm almost 4 months out and as if today down 50 lbs!!

I am super excited to be posting this and I made this thread to not only see everyone's nsv's but for people who aren't loosing to come to this thread to get encouragement! Lately my weight loss has slowed down I loose about 1-2 lbs a week here lately before I was loosing anywhere between 5-6 lbs a week.....anyways to make a long story short I've been in a size 16 for over a month now and I went and bought a size 13 before I was even in the 16's because I knew eventually I would get there well 2 days ago I was able to put on those 13's, granted they were tight and made my flabby stomach poke out at the top I was still able to get them on and button and zip them!!! I won't be wearing them out in public for awhile until I can more comfortably fit in them but I just had to share this experience with all of you!

Hello all of you seasoned post-op people! I'm wondering if any of you has a tempurpedic mattress, and if so, did you have trouble getting in and out of it post-op? If you have one you know they are amazing, but not exactly easy to get in and out of. There is no "bounce" to give you leverage. You just kindof sink, and I'm wondering if the effort to get up would be too much strain on new sutures internally and externally. We are making preparations this week so I appreciate any experiences you can share!

What are you eating?
katonaboat replied to PrettyGal27's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm on regular foods, surgery was June 12th. I'm still eating mostly protein, because once I get my protein in I don't have room for much else. For example, I made a low-carb meatloaf the other night and was able to eat 2.5 oz of meatloaf and less than a tablespoon of greenbeans. My husband had a couple of friends over to work on his boat last night (men's garage party) and I ordered pizzas. I pulled the toppings off 2 slices, but couldn't finish. My weight loss has slowed to 2-3lbs a week. It seems like those who were under orders to stay on liquids longer lose weight more quickly. I kind of wish I had been in that group, but once on solid food, I don't want to go back to full liquids! My favorite snack is a babybel cheese. I still have trouble getting my water in, but I have always struggled with fluid intake. I think I'm just not as thirsty as normal people! -
I made it 1/2 day thru the fast yesterday - I did good until last night. We had our book study, it was "goody night", and I caved. I ended up eating cookies, meatballs, chips, dip. You name it, I ate it. Okay, so today is back to the fast! Wt - 170.7 50 more days to reach my "mini goal" of 155. That means I need to lose 2.2 lbs per week in order to get to that goal by 1/18/07. Just to type 150's is almost unbelievable to me. I haven't weighed in the 150's in 20+ years. I would be soooo happy to get to 159! I'm ready NEVER to see the 170's again. I'm ready to be done with the 160's, I'm ready to move to the wonderful 150's! I was at 167 last month, but I bounced back up to the 170's for some reason, I think a lot has to do with the amount of water I'm holding because of my hospital stay, I'm hoping my fast will "flush" it out!

3 Weeks Post Op An I Am Itching All Over
slimthickens replied to shrinkinmama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did they use the clear glue to seal your incisions? They used it on mine and by the sencond week my abdomen itched so badly that I broke out into a rash! It didn't stop until the glue began to chip away after each shower. I guess it does not start to do this until your incisions are closed properly but it was maddening until it all flaked off at about 2 1/2 weeks. -

3 1/2 weeks post-op, vomiting every day
catwoman7 replied to Jennifer Jessmore Spaulding's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Like djmohr, one of my first thoughts was....stricture. I had two of them - one at 4 weeks out and one at 8 weeks out (they usually happen within the first 3 months after surgery) -
My sweetie and I both getting banded! Yea!
sadie11 replied to sadie11's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hello Ladies: The Lap Band journey has been an interesting one for both of us. I would say the Lap Band was an important step in recognizing our food addictions. We both lost about 40 pounds fairly quickly. And then stalled- we both got our bands tightened a lot. Then I realized I could hardly eat ANY normal food but sugar went down just fine. Same with my partner. We were still addicted to sugar. I read Eating Less by Gillian Riley (Amazon.com is the only place to find it) and faced my need for food to control my emotions. It is a book unlike ANY you have ever read about eating and diets. I still read it constantly- it has so much truth in it. We are still 40 pounds down but both had our bands loosened considerably. I can eat most anything except bread and some meats and can say the band does help me maintain my weight loss. We are both working on our compulsive eating and both going to Weight Watchers three years after getting the band. We are both eating much better but still have some lapses of overeating. I am eating so much better than I was pre-band and am much healthier than ever in my life. I have worked through most of my junk food issues and rarely eat badly now. So the band was a necessary step for both of us but not necessarily the complete answer for us. I simply cannot eat the extremely limited unhealthy menus that many LapBanders eat to lose 100 pounds in the first year. It feels very negative to me and a problem I have (in life) is the tendency to deprive myself of good things that I love. The LapBand is very punitive in essence but can teach you a lot about yourself and your motivations. The enjoyment of healthy food is something I will not give up for the rest of my life. I am trying to learn to eat GOOD healthy food in limited quantities. I am at peace (95% of the time) about food for the first time in my life and I have been dieting for 50 years!!! I feel good about my eating for the first time. So we have made good progress but like my wife's therapist said "You have a chronic health problem you will have to deal with for the rest of your life" and I believe this is true. The whole concept of "diet" is that it is temporary. It is not. Learn to eat for life. I hope this helps somebody and I still believe I would not have peace in my life about eating without going through the LapBand surgery. Your journey may vary from mine but I wish you love and peace. Sadie
