  1. I just had my RNY gastric bypass on 9/17/15. I would really like a buddy to share journeys with. The more the merrier!!

    Revision Sugery?

What did they have to do for your revision?
  3. I'm in the hospital overnight as we speak after my revision. I had to stay overnight for my 1st surgery as well. Good luck with your revision.
  4. Washington is ridiculous. That's why I'm going to Denver. I saved 7000.00 by doing that when I had my band done. I will be going to Dr. Weaver for my revision if things work out. He charges a fraction of what you've listed here.

    Revision

Any news on your revision nikki2524? Are you feeling any better? That's strange, that nurse telling you since your body wouldn't use the calories to go ahead and eat anything. Doesn't sound like any Bariatric nurse I've ever met. Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app

    Severe Side Effect

I did. That's why I had to have a revision. What side effects are you having? What surgery did you have?
  7. I was considering the sleeve or rny and through my research I also decided on the bypass. I only know one person personally who had a sleeve to rny revision (my cousin). It's just not for me... I strongly believe any of them will work if you work em' and what's right for me may not be right for you. I do hear a lot about the reflux problems so if you already have heartburn that would really put me off. Goodluck on whatever you decide.
  8. One night for me! band to sleeve revision. had my Lap Band for 12 years! I also feel like I can't wake up from surgery. I had surgery at 1030am and finally was awake around 430pm same day, I got up walked about 20 feet and went back to the bed for a nap, that went on for quite a while, up walk a bit and right back to bed, i couldn't hold my eyes open. I finally asked for them to completely stop my pain meds, and then I was able to keep my eyes open. The next day I was up and walking much better!! Doctor came in at 11 am said you can go home and I openly said NO. I don't think I can. He gave me 2 shots, one was a steroid the other I am not sure, and he said I bet when I call back at 3pm you will be ready to go home. I thought he was nuts!!! Well guess what, I went home at 5 that day. I wanted my bed, and he was right I felt so much better! I was afraid to go home so soon and I was fine, there was no reason to be afraid, I went home , i followed directions and I was fine. My BFF had the same thing band to sleeve the year before she stayed in hospital 2 days, and she said she could have went home the next day as well. with all that being said, I am glad i stayed 1 night. Because of the pain meds. I couldn't stay awake or listen to directions. That is the other thing, the pain was very manageable! and I have NO pain tolerance! I am a cry baby I wont lie! Good Luck!!

When did food stop grossing you out?

Eating food is still a struggle for me. I'm 5 months post RNY gastric bypass surgery. Eating anything seems to hurt my stomach, and it seems like I can't even stand to smell food. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App
  10. Ok so you did not get weight loss surgery for the weight loss. It was due to this tumor on your stomach. Ok now i get ya. You may need to end up getting revised to bypass if your reflux is getting this bad. Its always a fear for most that get the sleeve on having to revise it to bypass and its something i fear because my insurance does not cover these surgeries. Maybe talk to your doctor about other PPI medications. There are better ones than Omeprazole.

    My internist opened my eyes

Good luck in your journey - I haven't had the sleeve yet so can't answer most questions. Call your insurance to see if they cover the sleeve. As for weight loss, I have heard it can be comparable to gastric bypass.

Port Flips, Surgery, and Recovery. Questions!

Congrats on the weight loss! I didn't make it quite that far before I had major problems with him accessing the port. I had my port revised last month. I was in WAY less pain than the first surgery. It was mostly localized to the site where he put the port in. I was able to get out of bed on my own and do most things, just a little more slowly and no bending or lifting, of course. I took it easy for about 3 days, then back to work. I barely had to take the pain meds at all. The incision actually healed better than the last one! I wish you luck with everything! I was really nervous about it, almost more nervous than with the first surgery because I had lost hope with everything, but now I am super excited for a fresh start!

    Can I do this?

I received a packet from the WMT* yesterday... my 4-hour appt. is coming up on Aug 7... this just explained where to go and reminded me to do my food journal for 3 days... Got that started... : ) Every meal I have now, I think about how it is going to change... We had steaks from the grill the other night and I told Dick I'd never be able to eat this again... now I realize I'm wrong.. I will be able to eat it, just not the WHOLE blessed thing! "Big Medicine" was on last night... A Father/Son doctor team doing bypass surgeries on 500-600 pound men and their sister/daughter had to fly in due to problems with her lap band. She needed an "unfill" and the doctors in Ohio didn't know what to do or how to do it. 30 sec. with her brother, and it was done! Like she really needed it... he high weight was 185 and she's now 135... cute as a button! They didn't show "before" pictures, but I wish they had. I'd be DELIGHTED to weight 175!!!! Another show about a bariatric center with bed-ridden folks weighing in at 700 pounds! Now, I didn't need to see that! Or maybe I did... maybe that's the kick in the butt I needed to get this in gear, going the downward direction! I worry about being able to do this... and can't wait at the same time! *Weight Management Team

    Old Story, Preop Gal

Think it has to do with being revision and "lower" BMI. I've asked my doc twice and he has said no pre op diet necessary. I put myself on one anyway because I'm just paranoid .

Did you have any complications with the bypass? How much did you lose? How long ago was it?

Hi everyone. I am so Happy I found this website a week ago!!!! I am from Lynn, but now for the past 10 years now, I have lived in Northampton, MA. About 7 miles away from UMASS AMherst. I would love to join this support group. I had mmy surgery on 6/25/13 at Baystate Hospital in Springfield, MA. Bad experience with thia hospital. I haad Dr. Kuhn. I found him to be little ion the mean side. I have BMC and Mashealth. So here were my requirements: 3 group meetings 6 NUT meetings, and she was tough. Her nick name was the nutrition natzi, lol 2 visits with the lab doctor 2 phyic visits 1 sleep clinic 2 meetings with Dr. Kuhn (WL Doctor) I started with a huge seminar on 9/23/12. I got the 3 group mmeetings out of the way quickly. By November I had all 3 done. I had my frist appt. with the lab Docotr the day hurricane Sandy hit. It was October 29, 2012. My appt. was the last one that day (1:00 p.m.) Cause they closed the hospital after that appt. I will never forget it cause when I went in I was 264 (down from 301 earlier in that year). But my weight to start was 264. We were told in the beggining that the weight from the seminar was the weight which we could NOT gain from. So I got ion the scaale and I was 262.4. I started crying. Because the rules at Baystate nd the insurance ere as such: If you gained from your started weight, your surgery would be an additional 6 months post poned. That was your warning. Secound time you gained weight you were suspended for a year and the doctor had the right to "suggest" you go elsewere. So needless to say when I saw the 4 ounce weight gain, I cried. The nurse looked at me and said that the doctor might refuse me. So when I went into her office I was till crying. She came in and asked me why was I crying. I told her I didn't want to get kicked out. She told me scales vary from one office to the next and that I had to worry bout the scale in Dr. Kuns office. She said she would change my weight to the 264.4 but that was IT. No more weight gain, period. I aslo had to quit smoking as well. I did that on October 23, 2012. I did have lot of breakdowns cause they expect you to loose weight AND quit smoking, not easy but |I did it. They told me "the story" abut how a woman was actually getting preped for surgery, she smelled of smoke. So they gave her a drug test. It came back poitive for nicotine. They post poned her surgery for 3 months. They said she a actually in her hiospital gown. I thought this was nuts, but I did as they required and quit. I had to meet with the NUT once a month and she was tough. I finally jumped through ALL the hoops and in March of 2013 I meet Dr. Kuhn. He tried to talk me into the sleeve, bt I wanted the gastic bypass. My insurance has a once in a lifetime policy. So I wanted the one that would give me the best results. Lucky my husband was there cause he almost talked me into it. I got upset and my husband looked at me and asked what did I want. I told him the GB. He looked at the doctor and said, "if that's what she wants and you can do it, that's whaat she should get". I am so glad he was there. SO I got the bypass. I got approveed in April. He was so far behind I got a 66/25/13 date. I was in the hospital for 4 days. It took 2 months before I could even drink 12 oz of water. It is 22 months out and I still have a problem eating. I had always had an eeating disorder and now it has showed it's ugly head , again. I am in theropy, but \i am grateful that |I found this site. I would love to talk to people who have walked in my shoes. I have lost a few friend who I guess wern't true friends caue of this. I would love to find anyone in my area to maybe go for walks with on the bike path. Thanks for taking the time to read this long story. I am not a VIP so my email is kimerick2008@gmail.com. I am looking forward to heaqring from you all. Everyone keep up the great work!!!!!!1 Thanks again, Kim

  19. I'm a few weeks short of four months post op. I have never progressed to full food as I have a twisted sleeve. I noticed this when I was transitioning to puréed And soft foods that I would get an intense pain and backed up saliva. I also would feel a pain when I drank anything hot and then it Sounds like a clogged drain that the liquid finally passes through. At two months post op I had a swallow test and was told I had strictures. When the dr went in to stretch them out my stomach was twisted like a cork screw with five turns. The dr has straightened it out twice since and said she can do it one more time and then I have to look into a stent or bypass. Has anyone had an experience like this?
  20. I am 54 and post-menopausal. I am wondering if anyone has recommended supplements regimens with dosage amounts. Want to make sure I getting the right stuff.

Why did you choose the band over GB?

And so do I. Tell me where I have been nonsupportive of the band? My band did it's job-my body didn't want it in me. I explained why *I* revised to a DS. I don't think I've ever been called aggressive...and I still recommend the band. Like you said~my choice isn't a personal statement about me or anyone else. So don't take it personal, OK? Why shouldn't I tell my story? Should I not be here because I no longer have a band? You don't have to answer. I can probably guess what your answers are. At any rate, I wish you the best with your surgery.

Why did you choose the band over GB?

Can someone tell me the difference between gastric bypass and a DS? They sound like they are basically the same surgery. I am pre-banding and have really appreciated all the different views I have seen on this forum. I too am fearful of band complications, ie erosion, sliding, etc. But....... the issue of malabsorbtion, and the risks of BP surgery scares me more. To me it's all about choices, thank God we all have them. You know what they say,... different strokes for different folks

Nice to see a MA thread. I'm having gastric bypass on March 12th with Dr. Schneider at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. So excited! Started the process in November can't believe it's almost here!

    Newbie To Website...

The bypass is too drastic for me. Two family members had it done. One changed her life style and eating habits and has done very well. The other didn't and has gained back half of the weight she lost. Thanks for the kind words.
  25. If I forget and drink too close to eating, I get very very sick. It has only happened a few times. I was researching caffeine after surgery and read this in one of the health articles. Caffeine causes dehydration and acts as an appetite stimulant. Carbonation can cause increased bloating and discomfort, especially after gastric bypass surgery. Drinking too soon before or after a meal will cause fullness and may lead to dumping syndrome.
