    Are you Sleeve to RNY?

Went from sleeve to bypass early April. Lost the 50 lbs I gained on steroids and my GERD is cured (that’s why I got it plus gastroparesis). I’m at my original goal weight so time for a new one! 💪🏼

    Alcohol

I have 1-2 drinks maybe 3-5 days a week. Some days I have 1 daily. Occasionally I have more like when I went to Vegas. I just make sure I’m not driving because how it hits me is unpredictable and I make sure I use low calorie mixers and include it in my daily macros. I found FitVine and it’s damn good wine for lower carbs and keeps the alcohol content like normal wines. After my sleeve my first drink was about 3 months out (had 1 for thanksgiving). After sleeve revision I waited a couple months. I’ve had a complication that’s either ulcers or something else (getting my cat scanned Thursday). So for now I’ve put away all coffee, alcohol and most caffeine but I’m a slave to Diet Coke so I have one every other day. I’m secretly hoping it’s some easy to fix complication vs ulcers because I desperately need to start using my topical NSAID for a double shoulder repair. No pain meds and I’m suffering!
  3. I needed revision. NEEDED. I make the distinction for anyone who is in my shoes and contemplating revision. I did regain 50 lbs but it was purely because of high dose steroids for 5 months. The journey is different when it’s weight regain revision vs medical revision.
  4. I think this question is not easy to answer in many cases. Reflux is a common reason people are getting bypassed after having been sleeved or banded. Lack of weight loss or weight regain is another. However, I don't know what the most common reason is. Anyway, it's always a question of "What does the patient want and what does the patient want to live with forever and what risks is the patient going to take by having another surgery or by not having another surgery". So decision to get a revision can for sure take its time. I'm still on the fence if I should take the risk of another surgery (hiatoplastic, gastropexia, maybe even changing the anastomosis, depending on what they see during surgery) or if I should live with it the way it is and get control gastroscopies yearly. Since there is no guarantee that everything will be fine and dandy after another surgery, I'm very hesitant and regardless of what I will choose in the end, I won't rush it (luckily there doesn't seem to be a need to) and nothing will happen before January or February anyway regarding another surgery. I simply need time to come to terms with all of this. "The process of a revision". I'm not sure what you mean here. Insurance issues? If so, it seems to depend on insurance and the reason for revision if that is a major hurdle or not. I can't contribute anything useful to this since insurance system in Germany is quite different from that e. g. in the US. However, everything revision starts with a visit at the surgeon's office and then you go from there.
  5. Very interesting how the sleeve is gaining momentum. Also interesting that as the band % goes down, the revision rate goes up. The band just didn't measure up over time. I wonder what the actual revisions are: band to RNY, sleeve to RNY, Band to sleeve?
  6. I got my surgery in 2016 and lost 60 pounds but then I lost my oldest brother my oldest granddaughter and my twin brother in a nine month period And then I lost my mother the next year whom I have taken care of for years, unfortunately I picked up some of my bad eating habits and I really have only gained 15 pounds back, I’m sure I just need to get back on track. How do you tell if you need a revision?

    Whole Food Plant Based Eating

Update on Whole Foods Plant Based diet. I continue to lose weight - I think 3 pounds in the past couple of weeks. I am not yet 100% plant based (still using some Greek yogurt, whey protein, and occasional egg in chaffles), but 90 % plant based. This means a lot more legumes, nuts, seeds and whole cooked grains. I am getting plenty of protein - no issues with that. A lot more carbs, which is so counter intuitive with weight loss, but it is still coming off. This morning before my bike ride I had a bowl of Old Fashioned oats, cooked with quinoa, teff, and amaranth. Added some hemp hearts, flaxseed meal, and barrel cactus seeds (like chia). Sweetened with raisins, and a little banana, with soy milk. Very yummy and filling. I ate this 2 hours before my ride. For lunch I had split pea/lentil soup with carrots, celery, onions. Also some fruit (cantalope and berries.) I added half a scoop of pea protein to the soup. Also had a spoon of peanut butter after my ride. Dinner will be a "Budda" bowl with shredded Brussels sprouts, red cabbage, romaine, spinach, cucumber, tomato, avacado. Cashew nut/nutritional yeast "cheese" mixed with apple cider vinegar for a dressing. Topped with slivered almonds, hazel nuts, dried edamame, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, barrel cactus seeds, and hazel nuts. Cooked beans, butternut squash, and cooked buckwheat on the side. If I have room, I will steam some squash and beans from the garden, along with some broccoli. I may also have a couple mini corn tortillas with refried beans and salsa. Evening snack is soy (or Greek) yogurt with mixed berries, mandarin orange, slivered almonds, and homemade granola. Sometimes I have a square of 80% cacao chocolate. I eat about 2 pounds of vegetables/fruit per day (mostly veggies). Legumes every day, seeds/nuts every day, whole grains every day. I am completely full all the time - never hungry. With prepped veggies always in the fridge, there is always something to grab if I feel the need for a munchie. I feel good - mentally alert, physically strong, sleeping well (better, in fact). I don't feel as "heavy" inside as when I was eating more meat. However, I do have to be careful for bloating and smelly gas. I found this to be a problem with raw broccoli and beans that I cooked without draining the soaking water. Even Beano did not help. Canned beans do not do this. It can be a problem with bypass patients, as our gut biome changes, and it is harder to digest and break down those particular foods. I just have to cook the broccoli and be careful with the home cooked beans. So far, so good. My fear about inadequate protein is completely dismissed. I am getting so much good nutrition and I hope inflammatory markers will be way down with my next lab draw in Feb.
  9. I'd say your rate of absorption by your meds is being affected by your bypass. Hopefully your doctor can help you through this...reach out to your friends and family don't try to hide your feelings. And this may sound a bit dramatic but if you feel overwhelmed you can probably find some sort of hotline to get help from...good luck--You CAN get through this and we're pulling for you!
  10. Im scheduled for revision surgery 25 nov. For weightloss purpose, i really hope that i can drop about 20 to 25kg Sent from my SM-A530F using BariatricPal mobile app
  11. I’m sure my male friend who is not here would not mind me posting this. He started at 500 lbs. got sleeved, and got down to 400. He still ate a lot of really fattening food. He stalled. He and a doctor decided he should get a revision to bypass so he might be able to lose more. I’m afraid he will hurt himself with food, but I’ll support him in whatever he does. His revision was about a month ago.

  13. back when I had RNY, is was required of the potential sleeve patients but not the bypass patients. I don't know what they're requiring now as that was 4.5 years ago
  14. I'm a week out from revision, sleeve to bypass due to reflux. I'm an emotional mess....every moment I want to cry for no reason. I don't know if some of my meds are not being absorbed correctly. But I can't take this..I'm normally pretty upbeat, but someone can look at me and I start to cry. Feel like I can't catch my breath, depressed, I'm going to call my family dr on Monday to see if my meds are they should be...but man I'm a mess...any suggestions?

    Nyquil.

Also, liquid NyQuil contains alcohol, so it would take effect quicker in a bypass patient. Just a FYI.

    Nyquil.

I have had the bypass. Can I take Nyquil
  17. Hi everyone! So in July I was revised from the sleeve to the bypass. Fast forward 3 months and starting later this week I've started experiencing pins and needles and slight numbness in my abdomen through my legs on both sides. I got my lab work completed today by my surgeon. Have any of you ever experienced this? Please help. I'm a little on edge over what's going on.

    🍂 Nov 2019 Challenge🍂

    1. My personal goal for this month is to get back to regular exercise, even though it's not part of the challenge. Also, to clean up my diet. I've been having a self-indulgent little pity party going on since August and it needs to stop, 2. I had the sleeve Feb, 2018. Revision to Rny last Halloween. Maintaining 3. 151#, 24 bmi 4. Besides my family (given!) I'm most grateful for getting a "reset" button for my health and the possibilities that opens up for me.

    Bizarre... BCBS Federal

I have BCBS Federal as well and got several pre-approval letters, did you save those? My initial letter was an approval for the sleeve on a date a month out from the approval date, then it was for the bypass because I have severe GERD on the date I chose for surgery, then yet another one for the bypass on the surgery date with the 2 days I stayed in the hospital. I saved all of them for this reason alone. If I were you, I'd call your surgeon and let them know because if they had to submit all of that info for the pre-approval then they should still have it and it shouldn't be an issue. I had problems with insurance covering protonix and my surgeon was all over them to get it approved. I'm currently fighting with the hospital and insurance because the insurance company has had to fix my copay twice for the hospital stay because the hospital has decided to add another line item to the original bill. It's a mess but I think I have it figured out, finally.

    🍂 Nov 2019 Challenge🍂

Day 1! 1. Avoid impulse foods and stick to the pre-planned foods I have with me each day (so far so good, despite our treat table being LOADED with goodies today...) 2. Gastric bypass, ~5 months post-op, still losing 3. CW 245.4, BMI 39.6 4. Today's question: What are you most grateful for today? Today I'm feeling grateful for a lot of things, but since I'm in the midwestern US, I'm going to have to say I'm especially grateful for warm sweaters and blankets, because it's been COLD this week! Brrrrr.

    Alcohol

It is especially bad where there is an anastomosis, as in bypass. These are where I have seen the worst ulcers. Look up "gastric sleeve and ulcers" and see what you find.

    Fish & chips?

Now I know fish and chips aren't considered healthy. I've done keto for about 4-5 months now, had Gastric bypass 10/21, looking forward to getting back to keto because I do like that lifestyle (when I can eat normal again), but i wanted to treat myself for once, does anybody know if fish and chips will digest properly 4 weeks post op(soft food stage)? 🍂 Nov 2019 Challenge🍂

I'm hoping I can manage this! I really need the extra motivation this time of year in particular... 1. My personal goal is to generally avoid impulse foods and stick to the pre-planned foods I have with me each day. 2. Gastric bypass, ~5 months post-op, still losing 3. CW 245.6, BMI 39.6 (just crossed out of morbid obesity - so proud of myself!) 4. I realize the challenge doesn't start until tomorrow, so for today I'll just say I'm grateful for this challenge! 😄

    November Surgery

Hello All, I'm Monday November 11th. Revision from RNY (10 years and 1 month ago) to Long Limb Bypass RNY.
  25. Hello All, First Post! Found this forum very recently, had WLS 10 years and one month ago. Lost 200 pounds but gained back 100 of it. Now I'm 11 days away from having a revision to my RNY to something called a "Long Limb Bypass." Has anyone here had that done and how did it go for you? Thank you!
