When will I get skinny?
SanDiegoPhotog replied to sdgirl25's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am apparently in "bandster hell" right now where my swelling has gone down, but I have just about no fill (2ccs in a 10 cc band), so I'm hungry and pretty much have a wide-open band. Well, it put me into a plateau because I was losing weight like mad on liquids. So . . . I decided to get aggressive on my own. I decided to log my calories on thedailyplate.com, log my exercise, step up the cardio a bit, and increase my protein/water intakes. No, the scale still hasn't moved . . . but I'm determined. Yeah, I could sit around and wait for the fill in 2 weeks, then another 4, then another 4 or whatever it will take to get me to my sweet spot . . . . but I don't have patience. I just don't. So, in my downtime, I have to use it to my advantage and just know that the hunger will only be for a short time until I to proper restriction. That knowledge (a forseeable future) is the only thing that is helping me to not scarf up anything and everything in my presence. So, I guess you're like me . . . kind of at a crossroads and trying to decide how much work you're going to put into it or how much you are going to rely on the band. I decided to put in the work because I know the waiting would kill me . . . HTH -
I have started my self in soft diet today,, 1/2 cup oatmeal,, with diced, dates and 1/2 scoop soy protein ,, eating slowly,, going down nicely,, haven't had any nausea to date

Goal Weights - Predictions, Setting, Surgeons Input?
RickM replied to CelticBeautyEvolving's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I set my goal by body composition, as BMI (as others have noted) is a flakey measure that applies more to population studies than to individuals. I aimed for a mid teens body fat percentage - on the lean side of normal for guys (mid twenties for the ladies) and started with an initial goal weight based upon the (very gross) assumption that all my loss would be fat mass, and then corrected that as I got closer and saw how the BF% was shaking out. As it turned out, I adjusted goal down another 10 lb (to 190 from 200 lb) to reflect about 10 lb loss of muscle mass - we can minimize that, but next to impossible to avoid altogether. I am "overweight" on a BMI basis at 26-27, but lean - ish by body composition. There has been some discussion within the ASMBS ranks that over-emphasis on BMI can lead to excessive loss of muscle mass, particularly amongst those starting in the higher BMI range, so it is something of an individual judgement thing. -
I desperately love Aerosmith too. I was 15 and my mom and dad got me the greatest hits cd to go with my new cd player (was a big deal 10 years ago). Steven Tyler spoke to me and I've been in this love affair ever since, can I say it was one particular song? I doubt it, as soon as I type one in, I will think of another. I have lost boyfriends because they couldn't handle my devotion for Aerosmith (it's a five-guy band, intimidating for a lesser man, i suppose). Anyways, my now-husband was a then-supporter of my infatuation. Since I have been married, my love for Aerosmith has evolved enough to allow other bands and men in, Johnny Cash, anyone? But it took a good manly husband's "whatever floats your boat" attitude. I love Eric with all my heart now, but Steven will always be my first crush.

I was banded on the east coast and I have been provided with a plan from my nutritionist. Stage 1 - Full Liquid: fruit juices (dilute 1/2 with water), pre-made yogurt drinks, cow's milk, soy milk, Lactaid milk, tomato or V8 juice. hot cereals made very runny - oatmeal, cream of wheat or grits. Soups, broth, strained cream Soup, tomato soup, thicker soups would have to be put into the blender to make them smooth. Protein drinks, EAS Advantage, Atkins Advantage, Permalean, nectar, Designer whey, Any Whey, Isopure. I drink Isopure.....it comes in a 20 oz bottle, but I feel like I am over stretching my stomach when I drink the entire bottle to get the 40g of protein. Jello, popsicles, pudding - sugar free yogurt - dannon light and carb countdown Phase 2 - pureed diet - weeks 3 & 4 consistency of smooth applesauce, baby food Applesauce, instant mashed potatoes, saltines or oyster crackers, soft scrambled egg or soft boiled egg, low fat cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, sliced cheese, creamy Peanut Butter, mashed cooked Beans or refried beans, creamy tuna (use chuck light in water) or egg salad. During stage 2, eat only 1/4 cup at a time, every 4 hours. And no drinking 30 minutes before or after eating. Phase 3 - after week 4 cut up foods into small pieces and use good judgement. I hope this helps! I still don't know how many ounces of liquid to take in at a time during the first phase. I think I over did it last night with drinking 10 oz of hot cider and then about 30 minutes later, 6 spoons of cream soup. I was not comfortable!

The doctor said I should of stopped loosing weight and lost 10 more pounds since he told me that. I don't have energy to exercise. I don't want to loose anymore weight. Weight loss in feet
DirtyyMelodies replied to 2bsleeved26's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Losing weight in my feet would be AMAZING. I wear a size 11, and most stores here only carry up to a 10. I doubt it'll happen, though. My feet aren't really fat... Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Hello Sleeve Friends, Exactly 2 weeks post op I will be driving 10 hours to get together with close family and friends for my mother's memorial service. I'm wondering what I should anticipate in terms of pain/discomfort? Will I still have a bloated belly 2 weeks out? Will I have any noticable weight loss by then? What was your experience 2 weeks out?

Plus Size Fashionistas...
TBodmer71 replied to Blondiee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just hit the mother-load of all clearance sales at JC Penneys. They had racks and racks of clothes for only $1.97, plus the sale was take an additional 25% off. On top of all that they had a coupon for $10 off a $25 purchase. I had 2 rewards coupons for $10 off any purchase. I bought $25 worth times 2. I now have a full wardrobe in a 2x and a 1X for my total out of pocket price of only $10. Woohoo for me! By my surgery date I was already down 2 sizes. In the last 5 weeks since my surgery I have gone down another 2 sizes. I went to work Sunday morning at 5 am to swap out one of the machines. Thank goodness I was the only person in the plant because as I am walking while holding this huge metal tray full of parts my once tight fitting stretch jeans started falling. I couldn't just set the tray down because it was covered with liquid plastic resin. So, I had to walk through the lab and into the cleaning room with my feet apart trying to prevent my pants from completely falling. By the time I was able to set the tray down my pants were below my butt. Luckily they never made it to my ankles. That Sunday afternoon is when I hit JC Penneys. I went forma size 24 jeans and now wear a tight 16 or a loose 18. WOOHOO! -
sleeved 10 days ago and I still feel horrible
Momofbell posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! I was sleeved 10 days ago and I still feel horrible. I have already been back to the hospital for dehydration. I just seem to ache everywhere. I hate the taste of protein shakes. I drink one sip of water and immediately have gas. I'm wondering if I have a leak. I also have a high heart rate (115-125) everytime I move. Any suggestions? -

Hi, I'm 10 days post op and doing great. Day of surgery weighed 319 now I'm 289. Hard to believe but 30 lbs in 10 days. Most of it was water weight. My legs and feet were always swollen. Now I can see my ankle bones and calves are smaller. Also the first week it's hard to get much down. My dr had me on clear diet for 2 days and I couldn't stand broth so I lived on jello, apple juice, protein waters. And lots of water. The 3rd day I could have protein shakes, sf chocolate pudding, and Greek yogurt. I still only eat about 3 bites. Or can only get a half of the shake down but I drink lots of water. I'm getting about 400 or less calories. Oikos triple zero Greek yogurt is my go to for meals at this point. I have sf popcicles and organic tomato juice with seasalt found at publix it's a nice change from all the sweet stuff. Publix also has a protein milk called Rockin refuel that has 30 grams protein taste just like real chocolate milk and it's lactose free. I love it. The first 5 days were hard for me nausea was really bad. And smells really bothered me. It's gotten better. The pain was not near as bad as I imagined. Protein, water, and walking is the key. Also as soon as you fill full stop. Even if I have 2 bites and feel full I quit. I hate to vomit and haven't so far. Listen to your body and you will do great. It's hard and you will have days better than others. I literally just walk it off. That helps. Good luck to you. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using BariatricPal mobile app -

my husband has a lot more tact and self preservation than to say that kind of thing, but I think for a long time he really did think it was that simple because he has never struggled with his weight. to loose 10 pounds he just cuts back on his potato chip habit. seriously. not eliminate them, cuts back. it took him quite a while to accept and see that my body is different and it wasn't going to happen for me without serious medical intervention. I hope your husband can come around and see what you need, and be willing to do whatever it takes to get you to good health. -
Drinking liquids= fulltime job
ScoutCR replied to EsoKev's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi TeeJay! Thanks! I can relate, if I only drink water it goes down hard and gags me, but if I put in AW Root Beer flavor (SF of course) I can do the 16.9 oz in about 20 minutes. Some people here say do not use flavors because of the artificial sweetener but that has been a godsend for me. Today Friday is 10 weeks exactly since my surgery. Nobody said it would be easy and for those people who think this is an easy way to go, well they are mistaken. But I feel good most days and if I don't it is usually my own fault. What part of MD? -
I feel for you. I purposely didn't go out to eat or to the movies to avoid just those kinds of foods. I don't know if I could have held out if popcorn was held right under my nose like that. Fortunately for me, I couldn't stand the thought of eating anything at 10 days post-op. Hang in there and Keep Pimpin' that Sleeve!

Still Under 30# To Goal- 23 Months Out
feedyoureye replied to feedyoureye's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Stalls are normal for many. I did eventually lose my weight, now gained a little back, but all in all doing ok after 4+ years out. about 10 pounds up from goal. Best advice is use MFP, and write down what you eat every day, even if its crap. Get back onto Protein first, lower carbs (I never went to really low carbs), move, drink your Water, but not with meals... I keep it off by doing a semi fast one or two days a week. That is also how I got the last weight off after a very long stall. I used 5:2... find info on the vets forum. Best of luck... you are not even one year out, so expect to slowly lose the last part over the next year if you stay on track. It took me 3 years to get it all off. -
