Birth Control/pregnancy/vaca temptations!
Frankie replied to greeneyes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I laughed when I read you were going crazy without a scale while on vacation. I can so relate!! We spent a week at the beach this summer and I was going nuts. I finally made my husband go with me to a Walmart one evening (it was close by but I would never shop at a Walmart!) because I knew they would have some scales and I could weigh myself. I surprised myself and lost weight while we were at the beach. Hope you have a great time! Frankie VSG 3/22/10 -
First visit to surgeon!
because replied to RobynTurner's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was in the same boat. I took a loan from my retirement. My thoughts, if I don't take care of this there will not be a retirement. Plus it is a loan so it gets paid back. I just made my first $5,600 payment. The second will be next Tuesday, the day of my surgery. If you want it you will find it! I pray the universe moves aside and presents a way for you too. Plus side of self pay. Three weeks from the first visit and I'm having surgery. ???? -
Doc Appointment Tomorrow
Yvette 83 replied to DrSayrahK's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In Tijuana, right across the border. I attend to Mi Doctor hospital, my Dr. Is Savalsa. He was recommended through a friend and he is fabulous. My situation is more complicated because this would be the second time I have a weight lose procedure done. I had the gastric band about 4 yrs ago. Worked wonderful but developed complication with my band, nothing complicated but a one in a million type of a situation. So in a week or so he is removing my lap band, since I have a huge fear of returning to my original weight of 300 pound, in November I get the sleeve. some family members think Im crazy for doing it a second time. But no one but u or I can know what it feels to be unhappy with our weights. Only u can know why you do it. To me it was a life changer, I always thought I was happy but when I changed my life with the lap band I realized how unhappy I really was. I'm excites to do it all over again and even reach a new weight goal. Just remember this changes your life for the better don't let kissing weight become an obsecionl because u will not your process. Take plenty of pictures of before to motivate u during your process, and weekly ones to view your process. I made a scrap book so u can view your rebirth to a new life. Hope to hear more from u and wish u all the amazing luck in the world during your process. Yvette! -

Hi All. So i met with my PCP yeaterday and he was very supportive of my decision. I told him that my insurance requires at least 3 months of supervised diet an he said to just start logging my meals and weight. What i really want to know is how will the insurance co. Interpret the results of this diet? Should one really strive to loose as much weight as possible or is that a bad move? I am afraid the insurance co. (cigna) might take it as " hey he can loose on his own NOT APPROVED" should i just loose a few pounds? Just to prove i tried and it didnt work? I know that if i stick with a diet and exercise for 3months i will loose weight but my problem is staying the course . I want to make sure i do this perfect and not give them any chance to question the approval. I would appreciate any advice i can get. Thank you

Hi. I have recently just been sleeved 1/16/17 and I have a couple of concerns. I am in no pain, but when I drink fluids I get a sharp pain in my mid chest area until the Fluid subsides. Does that make sense? Has anyone experienced that. It has only been three days so I am praying that it is just has build up. Hoping someone has an answer. Chest pains 3 days post op
MrsPenguin replied to mpike62's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had that too. I am 6 weeks out and that feeling is much better, but I still get it a little bit, especially when I try to eat too fast. I burp a liitle too. -
Hi and welcome! Just a thought about the stimuli bothering you-could very well be a side effect of the anesthesia, it really stays in your system for awhile. I'm sure things will get better now that you're home. My hospital stay pretty much sucked as well...and I am a nurse, so the ambivalence you described really irked me as well. The only good thing I can say about my stay is that thankfully, it was short, just one night and that was more than enough for me. Like you, I am crazy about my surgeon and his team. Super supportive and helpful during all parts of this journey. (My surgery was 12/13/12.) I have my 6 month appointment coming up next week, am anxious to see how all my labs look, etc.

My nut had said that when we are ready for bread, that we should toast it first to see how we tolerate it. As I am learning, this is such an individual journey. But did I listen? NO..I had some graham crackers dipped in skim mild and that went down wonderfully, so I bought those little whole wheat "slider" buns, and had 3 oz of ground beef on it...It tasted so good the first few bites and then when I was about 3/4 of the way through this "mini burger" it hit me...OUCH! my little pouch was screamin! that is the first experience I have had like that. I guess I am kind of glad that I see how this little thing in me works, I could be a bit of a slow learner, and sometimes do not listen as I should, but that experience taught me life is never going to be the same again, and it is time to realize why I had this done and get with the program. Not trying to say this will be true for everyone, but for me, I guess bread and pasta, are out. Some have said that "flat bread" is different. Why would that be? And what does "toasting" do?

HELP!!! I am being banded on jan 2/09 and started my pre-op diet 5 days ago. It wasn't going too bad - I'm restricted to 600 calories per day - that's 3 boost and some veggies. I haven't been perfect on it, but have definitely cut down my calories by at least 2/3 and have not given in to any seasonal goodies - until today. I overate tonight, feel physically uncomfortable and totally ashamed and scared that now I won't be able to get the surgery because my liver won't have shrunk enough. I was just so damn tired of being hungry and not being able to eat. And I suppose emotionally, I felt empty too. Has anyone else cheated like this on their pre-op? I'm scared that if I cheat now, I'm going to fail at losing weight later too. I'm feeling really low and defeated - questioning my ability to succeed at losing weight even with the band.

Nervous about being approved - need sleep study
mst replied to Lisa in NJ's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The 3 month diet plan wasn't too bad. I can't say I stuck with it 100 %, but i did try. I lost about 11 lbs, not great, but that is the reason I want the lap band cause I am not great on doing it on my own. -
Nervous about being approved - need sleep study
mst replied to Lisa in NJ's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm in the same boat. I too have Aetna and a starting BMI of 35. I have done the sleep study. I had a mild case, not "bad" enough for a cpap machine, but I still had several "episodes" during my sleep study. I have just finished the 3 month diet/excercise/nutrition program and am currently waiting to hear from Aetna. i have no other co - morbidities other than asthma, joint problems and back problems. -

NEW Central Texas Army Wife here.
girl55 replied to Amanda B's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
amanda and silver You should go for it. I've had a weight problem all my llife. Hey I was 10 lbs, 5 ozs. when I was born. so there you are - all my life. Anyway, i can't remember in jr. high being under 165 and high school 195. I made it up to 265 when I finally said enough is enough. i had the same feelings you are having. right up until the time of surgery. the night before, i was thinking, maybe i shouldn't. But i thought, I've got to do something, and this is it. Had the surgery March 16. in 5 days i was feeling normal again except i couldn't eat as much. after 2 and half weeks the doctor told me to eat solids and get ready for my first fill on may 6. I've lost 26 lbs and have no restriction. Just think what i will accomplish when i get a fill. I'm happy i've done it and look forward to a thin me. Keep me posted on your decisions. -
lower left belly pain.
kris74745 replied to allana's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know it is difficult. It is going to take some time. In order to use the restroom, I had to wait and let the urine just come out. I could not use the muscles. My surgeon did prescribe one more fill of Lortab. I think you should call again about the pain, and explain that you just need it to help sleep and until the pain starts going away. I get my first fill next week, and my left side is still achy. The ripping or burning feeling is gone. The nurse explained that when they perform the surgery, your legs are actually up and not in the best position. The liver retractor can cause pain. The fact that the shot was on the same side of my surgery worsened my pain. The shot left a bruise about 3 inches in diameter. Anyway, you aren't alone. I would try to call again for pain medication this week. Nothing else would work for me. Gradually, the nerve pain will go away. You will be happy and almost normal before too long. You will just be losing weight!!!! Good luck and let me know what the doc says about it. Kris -
This thread is a God sent. I was banded on 11 Jul, I figured I could go back to work in 5 days. No way, the pain with pulling and burning in my side makes it so sensitive I can't stand to feel the elastic from my underwear on my stomach, I have pain medication and take it when I can't stand it anymore. But I need to get back to work. I started a new job and while I have sick leave if I knew I was going to be down this long I would have put the surgery off for a couple of months. I hope it goes away. I am going to give the compression undergarments a try and hope it works. I want this to be a new day for me without the pain and side effects of obesity, Not just a horrible experience with pain for the next 4 weeks.

My surgery is Oct 8th!!
FeatherHen2010 replied to LindaFromKY's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, Linda! We share the same surgery date. I am experiencing similar emotions -- how did I allow myself to get to this point? Why couldn't I do this on my own? Hopefully in a couple of months I'll be saying "Why did I wait so long?" I've been on liquids since 9/24 and today was the first day I felt a little dizzy and confused. Thinking it was probably lack of sugar and calories. You're lucky you only have to do one week! Good luck to you! -
Lap band patients should only expect a 1 to 2lb weight loss per week. It's not a fast process. If you do have a ten cc band and are at 8, once you get to ten you wont be able to get any more fills. I would suggest you speak to your nutritionist and see where in your diet you are. Slow and steady wins the race the slower you lose the longer it will stay off.
-
2muchfun - thanks for the "wake-up"...you are absolutely right. If not for the band, I would be heavier than I started 7 months ago....I wouldn't be able to walk 2-3 miles a day - shoot 7 months ago I was in so much pain, I could barely make it from my car to my office....so thank you, all of you, for reminding me....it may be a slower weight loss, but it will also be easier to keep off in the long run. AND, I'm much better off today, than I ever was 7 months ago...Thank you...I don't know what I would do without you all...

Do you still feel hungry?
Makulafamy replied to anymouse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am at a pretty good restriction. I think I could use just a tad more...but... Here is a great example. Last night for dinner I had about 1/2 a cup of pork sirloin and 3/4 mashed potatoes. I was not hungry after I ate that. Like everyone else says, you dont get that "oh my gosh I am so full I am going to burst" feeling anymore, but once I have eaten the right amount with my restriction I am satisfied and not hungry. I am still physically hungry after Breakfast and lunch, but that's just bc I choose to eat small amounts to keep losing until I find my sweet spot. To answer the other question about when do you know to stop? Well, the other night I had this wonderful chicken breast with ham, cheese, and tomatoe on top. About halfway through my chicken I could feel my body telling me to give it a few minutes. I ignored. Then, with about 1/4 of the chicken breast left, I could feel that my pouch was full...there was a slight feeling of being uncomfy...not really a pain, but a pressure. I again just wanted to finish my chicken (must clean plate when meal is yummy mentality), so I forced it down. 5 minutes later my body forced it back up. Lesson learned. -
Do you still feel hungry?
ParrotheadCathy replied to anymouse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Relax, you haven't stretched your pouch out. The problem is simply (!) you have virtually no restriction with only 1.5cc so when you eat, it passes out of your pouch fairly quickly and (2) you are so eager to feel that mystical restriction that you're stressed out over not feeling it. Your description of a dinner isn't bad really...especially with no more restriction than you have. Maybe try changing up meals...for breakfast eat eggs instead of cereal. Change the type of exercise you are doing or increase it some. Make sure you are drinking at least 64 oz Water a day. And, as I posted on this same thread earlier: "I was told to eat the kind of meal I'd been instructed ... about 3/4 cup of food, Protein first (at least 20 grams), steamed veggies and if I was still hungry a small serving of carbs. Then I was told that if I got hungry between meals, to eat 1 oz of low fat cheese or a boiled egg (I only eat the whites because the yellow is where all the cholesterol and fat are located)." If you are so hungry, eat a snack .... but make it protein. Protein takes longer to digest than anything else you can put in your mouth, so it will stay in your pouch longer and hold off hunger longer. -
