    So impatient!!!

    Yep, sit on your proverbial hands until you're physically cleared, otherwise you'll injure yourself and set yourself back even longer. Even though I was patient, at 4 months out I started the None 2 Run program and screwed up my knee, which is still giving me grief at almost 8 months out. And I weighed less this time than I did when I did the same program way back before surgery when I last lost weight the old-fashioned way. So I was not only nursing an injured knee, but confused as hell as to why a lighter me couldn't nail the program like I did when I was heavier! But the answer is easy - I lost a lot of strength in the pre-surgery months when I was at my absolute heaviest. Everything hurt, so my activity was almost non-existent). Post-surgery recovery took a long time, and I lost even more tone during those weeks. So I bruised the bone jogging on weak leg muscles. So now I concentrate on the gym, doing low impact cardio and weight training to build strength. My partner and I had to run the other night to catch a show we were running a little late for. The run was fine on the night, but the next day, my knee was tender again. I want desperately to run, but may have to accept that it's going to take some time with physio to do it. So small steady steps. Enjoy the other small victories as they come. The process is a long-haul.

    Regret and Depression

    I think you are just nervous about the future, it happens, also because the surgery your organism can have huge stress, so don't worry you will be back on the good state and all will be fine, it often happens when you re changing too much in your life, also you mentioned that you were fantasizing about the operation, so this one of the bad parts what dream is live, missing the subject of fantasizing, you better to think about future not about that was done before.     May Surgery Buddies

    I totally get that! They’ll give you something to relax you, just focus on that (easy for me to say). My date is 6/8. I wasn’t the least bit nervous until my insurance company approved me…since then (2 weeks ago), I’m anxious and jumpy. I’ve been coming here to read good post surgery experiences…so please post yours. ❤️ I’ll be thinking of you and sending you good vibes. You are going to do great! ❤️

    Travel after surgery

    I've never heard of a restricted diet lasting that long. Usually regular diet starts at about six weeks post-op, and pureed/soft (solid) foods start weeks before that. The chief focus should be on hydration, not nutrition.

    May 2022 surgery?

    That's awesome. I had mine the 13. I gained weight because I was so swollen. It's is starting to come off. I gained 6 lbs and now I am down those 6. Can't wait for next week and walking more to see how much I will use.
  7. Chrissy, Same here with the coffee!! Thought I was going to really miss it but it doesn't even taste good. I am 3 weeks out and down 26 lbs. I am sorry about your complications. I cant imagine since I have had none and I am still so weak and tired, no energy at all! I am 66 years old so it may take a bit I guess. My blood pressure has dropped significantly and could be part of the problem. Hope you are feeling better soon. Regina

    May 2022 surgery?

    I had my sleeve done on the 12th and will be one week post op tomorrow. I am already down 10lbs from surgery day.

    How long were you off work after surgery?

    It just depends on how you recover & how your body reacts to the changes. My friends & I had desk jobs too - quite mentally demanding & reactionary. One was back after a week, another took three weeks & I needed four (I always take longer to recover from everything). Best advice is to have a contingency plan in place with your employer - ability to take more time if needed, to return part time or with reduced hours. Just don’t push yourself to do more than you physically (& mentally) are able.
  10. Your rate of loss always slows as you get closer to your goal weight. You can always depend on that. The heady high rates of loss you experience at the beginning don’t last. You can also stall any number of times along the way. The small weight gain you are seeing at the moment could be related to your health issues or it could be your natural weight fluctuation becoming more noticeable as you get closer to your goal. It could also be your body resettling after your holiday loss & getting you back to where you would have been without the holiday. I’d go for option D - stop panicking & let your body catch up & I’d also add wait for your health to improve. Doesn’t hurt to do a check of your food choices, portion sizes, calories, protein & fluid intake, etc. Though you may be currently struggling with food, there may be something you are missing or could tweak to keep you closer to your plan.     Eating every 3 hours....

    Ok, so I thought I was eating soooo much each meal because I can eat about 2 tbsp each time (maybe 2 1/2 depending on what it is). So I decided to look it up. How many ounces are in 1 tbsp. It's 1/2 an ounce, ya'll LOL I'm seeing people eating like 2-4 ounces each time they eat and I thought I was doing horrible because of 2 tbsp each time I eat. Now, I'm also on kind of a combination of mushy/chunky mushy food right now, so definitely not solids yet. But somehow I still had it in my head I was eating way too much. And I called my surgeon's office and they said I'm to eat every 3 hours 5x a day UNTIL I hit solids at 6 weeks. Then I go to 3 meals a day and a very small snack or 2 IF needed. So that explains why I need to eat every 3 hours right now.

    Over The Shaming

    OMG I feel this in my soul!!!!! That's why I only told my mom (and of course my husband and kids) and they were all very supportive. And still are. Once I hit 2 weeks post op, I told others. And I detailed the pain, the appointments, the dietary restrictions, the exercise requirements, the "testing new food to see what you like or what hurts to eat", etc... I basically did a word vomit on them and they were like "oh wow, I had no idea it was so painful and involved!" Well, duh. Of course you didn't. You're a size 6 and can eat anything you want and not gain weight lol If you aren't me, and if you haven't walked in my shoes, then of course you wouldn't know. That's why I just educated you AFTER the fact, because I don't need unsolicited advice or platitudes or negativity. I said what I said, I did what I did, and now it is what it is.

    Keto Diet

    Not imo. It works for some people but I think you need a certain psychology around food I just don't have...not to mention guts of steel haha I did keto like 2 years ago in one of my many pursuits to lose weight. I had diarrhea every single day all the time. I did lose 10 lbs in 3 weeks but when I stopped, I gained it all back plus more! Not my proudest moment.     Over The Shaming

    I’m over society shaming people for being overweight and then when they decide to do something about it that isn’t diet an exercise, shaming them for their decision to “take the easy way out” and have surgery. I am tired of the average Joe or Jane suddenly becoming a nutritionist and a medical provider doling out useless advice we have all heard a million times before. “Just eat less!” “ Exercise more!” “Do Keto!” “Cut carbs!” THANKS NEVER THOUGHT OF IT. The amount of men going in on Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit cover model calling her obese is ridiculous. Dad bods are celebrated but a woman that doesn’t fit the classic American beauty standards are “disgusting.” And it’s always under the guise of “bUt It’S uNhEaLtHy.” No, you just can’t handle a different body type. Don’t sit there and pretend you care about health. And then the “surgery is the east way out.” Uh no. No it’s not. Not with the amount of consultations and evaluations and testing i needed to undergo. This also was my last resort; i tried for years to lose on my own and couldn’t-not with the over 100 lbs i needed to lose. Add in pre diabetes, PCOS, depression/anxiety and it feels insurmountable. If the general public thinks surgery is the easy way out or thinks it only works for people on My 600 LB Life, they should do the liquid liver shrinking diet for a week and see how long they last. They should undergo the evaluations. They could google the requirements before saying it’s the easy way out. But it’s easier to sit there and judge because fatphobia is more than acceptable, especially when it comes to women.

    Keto Diet

    Years before I had VSG, I tried the keto diet. Gained 7 lbs. in one week, so I went off it. I am almost 2 years post-op and do not use the word “diet” for myself, as diets have always failed me. I eat intuitively and so far, it seems to be working for me.

    Went to my 1 week post op appt. Everything went well. Egg drop soup was now put on my liquids list, so that’s what I’m having now. Ordered a large so it can last me all week.. Mmmm Good soup..

    How long were you off work after surgery?

    3 weeks off for a medium demanding job. On my feet back and forth a decent amount. Going back 5/30 with lifting restrictions of no more than 15lbs for one month. My surgeons office states 3-4 weeks for gastric bypass (me) and 2-3 weeks sleeve.

    How long were you off work after surgery?

    I may be an outlier on this, My team put me out for 7 weeks, as I have a physically demanding job, I am a long haul covid person and have MCAS as a result. I never used my sick time in the 25 years I have been with the district so I had around 1000 hours of sick time to use. I would do what feels best for you, my surgeon says most people are out two weeks, but again everyone is different.

    I had surgery Tuesday and was back to work the following Monday. Pain was fine but I was super tired. I had to take breaks frequently and took a nap after work every single day the first week back.

    Kinda annoyed and confused

    The rule of thumb for almost all bariatric patients is three meals a day with no snacking in between. This is because snacking allows you to overeat and exceed calories. We are supposed to be drinking fluids between the three meals. I have never heard of a plan that has you eat every 3 hours. Recommended serving size is 1/2 cup per meal. After six weeks, you can increase to 1 cup per meal. It should only take you 20 to 30 minutes to consume your meal. If it’s taking you an hour, then something is wrong. The food is too dense or not diluted enough or too high in fat content and causing restriction.

    Super happy but a bit confused

    Its a tough one, but at least for me, I am 5 1/2 months post gastic bypass, so we are around the same time I think I am loosing some of mu build, I was doing some weight lifting before surgery and now train twice a week, and I can lift soo much less than before surgery. Granted I lost 122 pounds, but it means a lot of it was muscle. Also you have skin that stretched and now weight at least 7-8 pounds more than before. So a 210 can be more like a 200 of the old you before your skin ever stretched, I hope this makes any sense !! Good luck!

    I never thought about a trainer!!! I will definitely look into that once I hit 6 weeks and I'm off all exercise restrictions. For now I'll just keep walking and doing the bike and maybe add those 1 pound wrist weights and 3 pound ankle weights from Walmart or Target while walking.

    I was actually thinking about getting those 1 pound wrist weights and 3 pound ankle weights from Walmart or Target and using those when I walk. I'm not allowed to lift any weights or run until after I hit 6 weeks, but I'm wondering if wearing those would be ok just for walking. I definitely am not looking to do any damage by jumping the gun on what my surgeon said is ok, but I want to keep making progress and get in the healthiest shape I can.
