Looking for alternatives to Tijuana!
DarlaG replied to biginjapan's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Hello, I had gastric bypass in Puerto Vallarta On Feb 12, 2012. I weighed 256 and I am still 100 lbs down. I was down to 126 at one time, but have gained over the years. Dr Joya did my surgery. After I had it done. If I could have picked any dr in the US I still would have chosen Dr Joya. I think his name is Dr. Armando Joya... I would highly recommend him.. I went back about 2-3 years later and had a face lift. I don't remember that Dr's name but I went back to see Dr Joya. He was just as nice and came out to see and visit me. So glad that is who I went to. I have a friend who had it done here in MO. she gained most of her weight back within 3 years. Im happy with mine. -
My psychiatrist and I are unsure of whether to change meds or not. There are other stabilizers as an option but i really like this medication (lurasidone). The only problem is that if you don't take it with at least 350 calories, it gives me a horrible stomach ache. So I was wondering if any of you take it and managed to bypass the nausea, and maintain stability.

I was watching a video by a weight loss surgeon from Perth, Western Australia. I found a point he made quite interesting. After doing a review of the number of revisions he had done on his patients, he thought that he was using a too large a bougie size for them, now he goes smaller and the revisions have reduced substantially.

Lap band revision- how long did you wait?
SorryNameTaken replied to Byrd0315's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
My doctor told me if my band was slipped, he would take it out, I'd wait 3 months, and then he'd do my bypass. If it wasn't slipped, he would do it all at once. My testing didn't show I was slipped, so I went through the 7 months of weigh-ins for insurance. Well, when they got in there, my band was actually slipped, and slipped bad. My surgeon (which ended up being my original doctor's partner) took my band out and did my bypass all at once. I'm so thankful he did it all at once, especially due to anesthesia complications and changes in insurance. -

Lap band revision- how long did you wait?
Byrd0315 replied to Byrd0315's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Good luck Loridee11. Please keep us updated on how your bypass goes. Same here with no fluid but continuing to have issues. I think just having it put would be better but would like to only go under once If possible -
Lap band revision- how long did you wait?
loridee11 replied to Byrd0315's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
My surgeon wanted the band out for at least 3 months before they would do bypass. I had the band out in August and feel SO much better - I was completely unfilled for the last 2 years but still had heartburn and days where I could barely swallow water. Other days I was fine and all of that is now gone. My RNY is scheduled for Dec 31. -
Lap band revision- how long did you wait?
Byrd0315 replied to Byrd0315's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I’m just wondering if they will maybe take the band out separately since it is causing problems and then have me wait for the revision -
Lap band revision- how long did you wait?
lvidacovich replied to Byrd0315's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
For a revision to sleeve or bypass? I don't see why you wouldn't have to go the whole 6 month waiting period that most insurance companies have unless you're self-pay. Even then most GOOD WLS clinics have a protocol you must go through that can take a while. -

I’m having significant issues with the band and am wondering if I will have yo wait 4 months for the revision or if they are likely to do it sooner since I am having problems? -

Stool Hardening and Uncontrolled Bowel Movements
elcee replied to James S's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Generally looser bowel motions are quite a normal consequence of gastric bypass. It is all to do with the different absorption post op. The first thing you should look at is what you are eating. Too much fat/sugar are going to cause problems.Lactose also causes issues for a lot of people postop If you have checked your diet and there is no obvious cause then you should speak to your Dr. There are drugs they can give you that slow down the rate of gastric emptying. You should also consider how bad the problem is. If you are passing loose motions all day long then yes you probably need help. However if it is just that they are unformed and more than previously but at a certain time of day you may be able to adjust your lifestyle to accomodate it. I have accepted that looser bowel motions are part of my new normal. They tend to be mainly in the early morning which means that it is best to be at home at this time. I don’t really have issues the rest of the time. -

Why don't more people get the MGB? I love mine!
Dances with Carbs replied to UnderTheCaliSun's topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
My insurance also wouldn't pay for it. I did look into it but the cost was about 18000. I didnt even have to pay half that for regular bypass after my insurance got a hold of it. All in all I have no complaints though. I've had no issues so far. -
Having a very hard time. I’m on day 3 and I’m moody and very emotional, extremely constipated and tired. I am hoping it gets a little easier. RNY bypass scheduled for Dec 5. I’m struggling today.

Why don't more people get the MGB? I love mine!
UnderTheCaliSun replied to UnderTheCaliSun's topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
With RNY, you bypass the stomach and reattach at two different places. With MGB, you bypass the stomach but reattach at only 1 place. There is less intestinal re-routing and it takes less time in the operating room. The MGB has much less chance for dumping and is generally safer. It does pose the risk of bile reflux but there are ways to help avoid or minimize that with the anti-reflux stitch and watching portion sizes. RNY has less chance of bile reflux but a greater chance of dumping. There is no perfect surgery. You can get bile reflux after having a gallbladder out. It happens more than people realize but you don't see the medical profession against removing a gallbladder. I don't know why some won't recommend the MGB for that reason. Overall, it is a safer surgery than RNY. -
Eating out after Gastric bypass surgery
Darktowerdream replied to Darktowerdream's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Well ok. I just wanted to share in my perspective with autism spectrum, very limited calories and diet and that I think it’s good to face “temptation” and say no. As well as figure workarounds for my restrictions due to chronic illness. my metabolism is slower than a sloth. And sometimes an actual nibble of something won’t hurt. If it’s a nibble or two. BUT Nibbles can add up. If you are not mindful. and I worked on that. Mostly I wanted to mention the medical card. I have no family. It’s just my mother and I and her friends. I had gastric bypass surgery. I eat as little carbs as possible out of necessity and very little to no sugar. I understand it’s your opinion about buffet. My pouch is very small. Aside from the salmon sashimi and two small shrimp the rest was nibbles. And the desert I nibbled with chopsticks was the least sweet there and less sugar than fruit. im sorry your comment makes me feel I need to justify my post. Close after surgery I wanted to treat a good friend of my mother’s to Father’s Day dinner. I went and just had a drink and a few nibbles of sweet potato. I am trying to go with my mom and her friends once in a while. They love eating out. Last time I had a couple shrimp. Just 4 ounces. You can get appetizers during happy hour. Which we missed I just took a few of my mother’s she eats less too. But for now I know to have protein first and make sure to have extra protein with less calories if I might eat out. But I’d never really tested it and it’s hard for me since I rarely go. I figured a buffet was a big test and I knew the place might have what I wanted. And I resisted all my old favorites from many years ago. I’d never been a buffer person ever but figured there’s way more options to get simple protein than ordering a meal. And it was where my company wanted to go. it wasnt an expensive buffet and would have been less had my company listened to me and asked for the children’s portion price with my medical card. But I am not very good with people and had a hard time adapting to the situation more than I was the food nor was I tempted that I couldn’t resist. Soup to me is empty calories and not enough protein. I thought about it looked at it and told myself no. buffet doesn’t mean eat it all. They had nice healthy protein options too. I only nibbled the fresh cooked fish since it didn’t sit too well. And I can still only manage soft foods. (My personal medical issues) Maybe nibbling from plates and eating carbs or ordering “healthier option meals” works for you after sleeve. That’s great. I’m sorry your response came of condescending and assuming I overate or wanted to. I just thought my mom would like me to join in. They planned to go and I decided to try to go along. Just because my company ate a lot did not mean I had to and for years I’ve been working on not eating something just because someone I’m with eats it ... It’s not always about just food. -
I must not have hit submit on Thursday on the post above. I had my revision done robotically onFriday. I also had two IV.

Gastric Bypass Medication Absorption Issues
Briswife15 replied to Migz's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Liquid meds are effective, too after bypass. I switched from time release, to regular pills 3 times a day, and STILL had a problem absorbing the med. Had to switch to liquid. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
What does this mean? You revised from a sleeve with another sleeve?

Briachioplasty & full thigh lift
Darktowerdream replied to Ruth1ess's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Thank you so much for sharing this. I was in a dark place after my gastric bypass surgery. My body went into sensory overload and I was bed bound because of its impact on my chronic illness. I want thigh tuck so bad at some point and maybe some other things. I’d definitely have to go to Mexico probably would do BariatricPal Mx hospital. I do worry about those first days after even though I have high pain tolerance it takes its toll body and mind. I am sorry your first days were hellish and hope that each day of recovery gets better (and it will) I’m glad you shared an open honest story since that’s what I look for. And the result is already looking great.
