September surgery buddies!!
Hope4NewMe replied to Slwhurst's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats!! Sorry that you are still having headaches but 11 pounds in just a week is awesome. How have you dealt with having to cook food you want to eat? Lots of positive vibes for a safe and successful surgery and a fast recovery! -
I use powdered collagen every day with no dangers. I think it does help with skin elasticity -- I did it more as a preventive measure to avoid losing hair or having brittle nails. My go-to breakfast is: 8 oz of black cold brew 1 scoop of collagen 1 scoop of unflavored whey protein powder 2-3 squirts of skinny syrup Blend all of that together, then pour in a 12 oz premade vanilla protein shake

Beware The Coffee Creamer Pipeline
Summermoose replied to Kukubari's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Hi fellow ADHDer! 😊 I personally would not stop caffeine if it works for you, even if meds work. We need ALL the tools we can get, maybe not all the time, but I would definitely not limit myself like that. I personally need caffeine every single day, but I try to approach it like I would exercise or medication. I need it at a certain time to get stuff done and it doesn’t need to be yummy, I know it is serving me, my body and my mind. 😊 To keep it ‘reasonable’ I drink filter coffee without any type of milk or creamer. Before I always had coffee with creamer and loads of sugar, and quite frankly hated black coffee, but I make it strong and gulp it down just to get the caffeine I need. I’ve gotten kind of used to it now. I have started treating myself to a flat white twice a week, and I look forward to it every time 😊 -
2 weeks out from surgery and I'm starting my pre-op liquid diet today. 3-4 shakes per day, plus clear liquids. Also allowed one cucumber or pickle per day if I need something to crunch. Concerned, but hopeful...

Beware The Coffee Creamer Pipeline
Queen ApisM replied to Kukubari's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
This is why I have not started back on coffee. It's crazy sounding, but it is better for me to plan on special coffee treats from Starbucks (lower calorie options) 1-2x a week than to let myself fall down the coffee rabbit hole. I hate skim milk in drip coffee, which means I want to use other items that are very calorie dense. At least if I plan the coffees, I can track them and program them into my week. The Protein shake option is my back up, for when I decide I want a drip coffee with the husband. -
I drank coffee a week after surgery or so... It didn't upset my stomach at all. I used to drink it black, but decided to start doing a half protein shake in my coffee now.

My Doctor said to increase calories a bit and it would end, I did that, and lost 3 lbs in 2 days.

So glad you are feeling better. I had my surgery last week also. Lets learn together. PS. The Co2 gas was a killer. I put some music on and did a dance party sitting on my hospital bed (moving my upper body and then legs) to try and get it out. It helped. I had pain on the top of my shoulder (left) for several days. I heard this can be from gas. I used my TENS machine to help that - glad it is gone now.

Stall with water retention
catwoman7 replied to hellohalo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
10 days on a stall is normal. They normally last 1-3 weeks (although I've heard of them lasting even longer). The bloating combined with infrequent urination sounds like you're retaining water. I agree with summerseeker - may be due to salt intake. -
New here, 3yrs post op, hoping to connect w others who are struggling nutrionally

Welcome to the forums! Do you exercise and use a tracking app to monitor your macros? For me, I find that when I religiously workout five days a week and track my food, it helps me to make better food choices. In my mind I'm like... "Why kill yourself at the gym everyday only to undo it all with sh*tty food choices that sabotage your efforts" so that's what helps me. Also, does your surgeon have a virtual support group? That's another option. I'm only 7 weeks post op revision, so I'm not in the maintenance stage yet. I hope you find the help that you're looking for. Best wishes! -
Beware The Coffee Creamer Pipeline

Pre weight loss surgery I drank the International Delight creamers, and went through a phase of using half and half. Then when I began my weight loss surgery journey 9 years ago, I swapped out those types of creamers for cashew milk and always sugar free sweeteners like Stevia. To me it was creamier than almond milk. Now that I'm 7 weeks post op revision, I've switched yet again. Now I make 4 oz of strong coffee with a full reusable Keurig pod and add it to a Fairlife protein shake. I make them both hot and iced. Then I add complimenting sugar free coffee syrups to that if I want. I can't recommend these syrups enough! https://www.skinnymixes.com/ (I also add these to Greek yogurt, SF tea, SF lemonade, and I've read that some people add them to oatmeal, but I've not tried that, I don't eat oats very often) I'm sure you could switch to half caffeine and half decaf for a while if you want to slowly eliminate the caffeine from your diet. If you truly enjoy the benefits from a warm beverage, maybe eventually you can go straight decaf and use a protein shake so that a warm cup of coffee is beneficial to your diet and you ensure you reach your daily protein goals. That's what I do. I have two cups a day one in the morning and one in the afternoon, so that's 60 grams of easy protein a day for me. Best wishes! -

Drinking that much you will likely go through withdraws, I would wean yourself off if it. Maybe 3 cups a day for a week and then 2 cups for a few days and then 1 cup and then switch to decaf? You still have the creamer issue though, try flavored coffee and use milk or almond milk? I don't really drink coffee so I am just throwing my opinion out there without any real experience. Good luck! -
Stall with water retention
summerseeker replied to hellohalo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think the stalls you have read about are later stalls on the journey. This first stall is scary because you will not yet believe the process. My first stall was 2 weeks and my second 5 weeks. I didn't bother to count them after that. Ride it out, weigh yourself less. Keep doing what your surgeons team told you. Is your urine dark or light? If its dark increase your water intake if you can and contact your team if you are worried. Are you having salty drinks ? like homemade broths ? These make me retain water -
Hello Everyone I’m Back Post Op my Surgery date was August 31st I feel great my Surgeon was Amazing she is one of the Top Docs in NYC I didn’t need pain medication after I left I had a two day stay My only Issues is getting in my H20 so now I’m trying to do at least 3 oz every 15 minutes between meals. I have to take them twice Daily I am Severely Anemic not sure if that has anything to do with it but I hate needles and having to inject myself is NO BUENO other than that I have a lot of energy I have to stop myself from doing to much and let my body heal I’m used to always being on the go. also my Sleep pattern is off I have to get into a nighttime routine I only sis one weigh in I will step on the scale Wednesday it will be one full week

Hey guys, I know a lot of people here went through the stall but I read many people said they at least lost inches during that time. I'm on my 10th day of stalling and both the scale or the measuring tape hasn't moved since then. Besides that I drink around 80oz of water a day but I pee super little and in the morning wake up very bloated. Is all of these things normal?

How often do you guys weigh yourselves?
STLoser replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For the first year and a half I weighed every morning. My weight slowed down after that and for the last 6 months I've weighed once a week. I just started maintenance a month ago. I weigh in my underwear and pj top after I pee first thing in the morning. I like having a little clothing on so I don't weigh completely differently when I do weigh at the doctor's office. That kind of thing can mess with my head sometimes. Sent from my Pixel 5a using BariatricPal mobile app -
I finally did get fillers about 4 weeks ago. Found a cosmetic physician with almost 20yrs experience & had a long conversation about the concern with my allergy. I felt very confident with her so we went slowly - 1ml one week & a 2nd ml the next. She filled the two depressions in front of my ears which were almost void of fat. Happy with what she did. Very subtle. In fact no one has noticed except if I point it out which is what I wanted.

September surgery buddies!!
Sd14810 replied to Slwhurst's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was feeling that way, I did alot of research, and also looked up beriatric on Amazon just to get a feel for what was out there, they have alot of beriatric foods, and drinks that have protein in them, I ended up ordering some of the premier protein flavored water drinks, and the protein drinks and I like them both, I also got some of the soups as well, I wanted to try a few things out ahead of time because I know I have to do a week liquid preop diet, then 2 weeks full liquid post op then the 3rd week postop I can start to have things like pudding, and such, and they have alot of soft foods with protein in it to. It's been keeping me busy as well as making me feel prepared to deal with the diets because I've tried several things and found stuff I do like, now I don't feel like it's going to be horrible [emoji854] Sent from my SM-G996U using BariatricPal mobile app -

Gastric Sleeve and Depression
Sunnyway replied to Muffinman1119's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've mentioned in other posts that I had complications post-revision surgery. I became profoundly depressed while in hospital for weeks without knowing when I would be able to leave. My Wellbutrin was bumped from 150mg XR to 225mg daily and it helped tremendously. Once I was out of rehab and back home the extra dose was discontinued. You might talk to your doctor about adding a bit more during this slide you are in. -
Yes I have had some issues. Second week f pre liquid I had been working got dizzy a few time went in and almost went down. Second time was 4 days after surgery went to see my Dr. And told him I had bad tome with bloating night before. He told me to cut back on fluids a little went home went to house and fell face first into recliner and onto floor. Not hurt but did like Dr. Said and that day made sure to time 10 min. Between drinks! Next day felt mush better spreading things out 1 oz at a time over most entire day.

So many updates, so little time...
ShoppGirl replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow. You are incredibly busy. That’s awesome to get rid of some clothes. It’s like we are accepting that this actually is working this time unlike all the diets in the past and I’m so glad they went to some really good causes. I am sorry your in another stall but at least this time your not letting it freak you out. It will pass before you know it. I’m SO glad you have an appointment for your scope and I hope you get some answers really soon. Congrats on being down to the last two classes and it’s awesome that you have a goal but if you don’t reach it, don’t let it stop you from attending. I didn’t attend for my AA or my BA and I actually regret not attending. The AA was for legitimate reasons but the BA was because I was embarrassed of my size and didn’t want to be in the limelight. Such a shame because it’s hard work earning that degree and we deserve to be celebrated. What a cool mom letting your daughter play hookie and shop for her sweet 16. Those are the memories that we tend to remember as the years fly by. I hope you are enjoying your weekend as well. Keep up the good work!! -
4 Days Post Op - Protein, Fluids - Help!
SpartanMaker replied to Mebby's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
You need to stop thinking of the concept of "meals". It's too soon for that. Instead you should be doing 2 things: Drinking water or other clear fluids. Most docs want you to hit 64 oz or more, but this can be a challenge for some. Things like flavored water, herbal tea, broth, popsicles, sugar free jello, etc. all count as fluid. Get protein in liquid form or maybe pudding consistency depending on your program. (Some programs have you advance to yogurt and/or cottage cheese sometime between day 4-14.) Premade protein drinks, protein powders, etc. all count here. You should be targeting 60 grams of protein, which is basically 3 of the Fairlife Nutrition drinks you already have. At this point you should be sipping these and it may take 30-60 minutes to drink one. If you don't want to do those, you can also add unflavored protein powder to broth, or try a flavored protein water drink, though you'd generally have to drink more of these to get to 60 grams of protein a day. The good thing about the protein water is it would count toward both your protein and your water goals, unlike the shakes.
