    December Surgery dates???

Oh no I hope my taste buds don’t change I’m all about the foods they say we are aloud to have. I’m not a junk food eater just have a non existent metabolism with a lot of health problems that I hope will be resolved once the weight comes off. I’ve got a lot of hope and positive energy and feeling good about all this. My starting weight was 296 and I’m at 255 now hoping to get to 250 in the next 7 days. Do you mind if I ask what surgery are you getting I’m getting the RNY bypass.
  2. Following i do know that we are not supposed to take b12 unless confirmed low for non bariatric patients. I wAs only taking it once a week or so with sleeve. I feel sure that when I see my dr for first time after revision to bypass he is going to tell me to take it daily. It can build up and cause issues if not needed. I plan to talk to him about that.
  3. Is a drain typical? I didn't have one. Last minute I was changed from a mini bypass to a sleeve. Chapstick helped a ton. I'm feeling human today and sipping tea with collagen proteins. Yum!

    30 months p/o - painful gas

I’m 10 years post op rxy bypass and still have severe gas pains. It’s so bad right now that I couldn’t go to work. The pain comes and goes in time clusters. I’ll be fine for a couple of months and then I’ll suffer every day for a few weeks and then it’ll go away again for a few months. There’s no rhyme or reason to the occurrence and no patterns I can detect. I’m desperate to figure out a solution.

    I NEED THIS SURGERY

I would love the mini bypass but, I'm thinking price wise in mexico the sleeve is my best option! I'm glad you're doing awesome... KEEP IT UP

    Update and question...oh the pain

I’m surprised with all that’s going on that the doctor would suggest laxatives Rather than further testing. It’s concerning that a part of the bowel isn’t functioning as it should. And that you have inflammation. Ileus is where the portion of bowel isn’t moving things along the way it should. Maybe the doctor feels it will get better on its own as the bowel wakes up. Maybe moving around more to get your gut motility moving. Bladder spasms are probably connected they are all connected. I’ve had a lot on my plate, some from surgery some not. I had another surgery before my gastric bypass surgery, also had my gallbladder removed along with the RNY, and then another surgery last month. I do have stricture. I’ve had difficulty with thinner liquids, and couldn’t tolerate purée. I’m slowly trying to add things late in the game. Trying moving around. Try some gentle things like massaging your stomach in a circular motion starting from the lower right up and around to the colon, is that counter clockwise? Also if you can tolerate it try sipping Smooth Move tea. I don’t use anything long term but used liquid cascara sagrada (it tastes like a strong licorice) I didn’t mix it in anything but you could. everything is backed up for you including gas, you don’t want to end up dehydrated or with other complications. Post op pain meds also slow the gut down. If you are still taking it the doctor can prescribe Relistor to help get things moving. i Got frustrated with trying to get answers from my gastroenterologist and asked for a prescription for linzess. But give things a little time. It is painful but just keep trying to get Protein first look for protein shots so it’s small doses, and hopefully at the next appointment the doctor will order testing if it’s not improved. They might order a barium enema. My answers are scattered and hopefully make sense my memory is terrible and my sense of timeline is worse. As long as you get answers and solutions to this that’s what matters most. Thank you your answers make perfect since. I appreciate everyone taking the time to post on this I too didn’t realize this post would elicit such passionate responses. I’m on my way now to see my doctor to see what he’s going to recommend. I’d rather not go the laxative way either but something has to help somewhere. The older remedies I know work in a traditional sense but I’d rather not introduce anything else into my system because I don’t know what it will do. Unfortunately that means pain and wait and see but I’m hoping he’ll have more to say.

    Update and question...oh the pain

I looked “healthy and vertical based” post op, and yet had aspiration pneumonia due to neurological dysfunction of the epiglottis (dysphasia) I also have lifelong chronic illness and disability but you don’t visually see it. the CT showed partial blockage, do I trust CT’s um not so much. My CT’s showed narrowing of the colon, colon wall thickening and possible colitis yet a colonoscopy yielded no answers except diverticulitis. (Sorry I’ll get to the point) if the ct showed partial blockage with a combination of aspiration issues due to GERd than it’s not as simple as castor oil. I have intestinal problems at first post op i had bloody diarrhea, ended up in the Er, then i was lucky if I went Once every two weeks. Something just gets stuck in transit in my gut. I can’t rely on laxatives I have too much muscle weakness and damage due to chronic illness. And the more you take the more dependent your body becomes. Plus I’m allergic to glycols. For some reason the magnesium citrate drink made me severely ill. As did MOM. each person has their own things they just can’t do. Or that works but it seems This is a sensitive problem and needs the right approach. I would be concerned about laxatives at this point. I had the sleeve

Can you keep protein shakes down? What does your doctor say? Have you contacted them? Its a fabulous weight loss. You say you are pre op. Are you having a revision due to this problem?
  12. Hello, I am having revision surgery tomorrow. 12/4/191; RNY to SADI. I saw some research mentioning that this was a better surgery than distalization for weightloss. My surgeon seems hyped about its ability to cause better weightloss. I would like to at least get down to 200 lbs which is where I was before my weight regain. I gained 75 lbs due to living with someone (my mom) who had all kinds of carbs in her house. Luckily, I found a place near her and did not have to live with her carbs anymore about two years ago. Since then I have been trying to lose the weight. I lost about 25 lbs; basically 1 lb a month. I am 57 years old and thought I would be lying on my death bed in my eighties having just made my goal weight. lol Now I have this second chance for quicker weightloss. Wish me luck tomorrow and thank you for your camaraderie! Woohoo!

    Gastric Bypass complications

I had a complication from anesthesia, not from the bypass itself. Anesthesia caused my heart rate to shoot up and not come back down. Slowly over the past few weeks it is lowering on it's own. It is likely nothing to worry about, but it's being checked out anyway. I was a revision, so my risk of complications is higher and I still had a very successful surgery. My pain was minimal, my food tolerance has been incredible, and I feel more normal than I ever have!

Eating out after Gastric bypass surgery

I made the same choice after I was sleeved in 2012 absolutions no buffets it’s truly a waste of money for me. If it’s any other restaurant I just ask for a two go box upfront and keep on the plate the amount I may eat. Sometimes I’m adding that to the box. The other option is to meal share. Some places charge for doing so, but most do not. With having bypass 11/21 I’ll be incorporating the same practice.

    Gastric Bypass complications

I think you should be asking about gastric bypass successes, and focus on the positive! If you adk about complications you're going to hear from the minority, myself included. I hesitate to tell you, but just 5 weeks out from bypass I developed pain when drinking or eating, and couldn't keep anything down. It felt like I had eaten a whole pizza! Turns out I had the most severe stricture the surgeon had ever seen, and lots of ulcers. It took months. And 6 dilations to fix the problem. I'm 8 months post bypass now. And am fine. I was totally unprepared for this. But had a great attitude, and just went with the flow. It's really the only thing you can do when faced with a setback. Now, I'm praying you don't have any complications at all. I was a very rare case!! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Day 10 of pre-op liquid diet

I am post op from revision and can’t tolerate the shakes either. I am using bone broth, unjury chicken broth and fat free fairlife milk instead. I also drink the clear protein 2o drinks.

    Bypass Surgery March 2020

I too am new to this Gastric Bypass journey. Throughout Thanksgiving I watched the quantity of what I ate, but it included the usual holiday carbs: potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, all the things I will never eat again after Bypass surgery next March or April. Thinking about WHAT I ate and how much I enjoyed it, scared the crap out of me. I found myself having mini-panic attacks about my decision and whether or not I will be disciplined about WHAT I eat and WHY I eat. I KNOW that I am making the RIGHT decision, but I'm really scared. I read some of the forum threads of people who are on the same path and it helped especially learning about the pre-surgery diet. I ordered some protein shakes and I am going to start to transition to the post-surgery liquid diet that will be necessary. If I can master it now not only will I lose weight but I hope it will make it easier after surgery. Threads about cravings and appetites returning with a vengeance after surgery REALLY CONCERNED me. I thought that having the majority of the stomach bypassed and the Ghrelin hormone removed from the hunger equation would end those issues COMPLETELY and eternally?? Now it seems like that's not the case? This surgery gives obese patients, like me, a new lease on life...it's a life changing metamorphosis. I need to come to terms with how important this is for me (healthwise) and find a level of discipline regarding food that I have only ever tapped into two times in my 60 years of life. How do you tap into your own confidence in your ability to make a lifelong commitment? And, do people who have GPS put the weight back on 24 months out or longer?

    Update and question...oh the pain

Additional notes: Gastric bypass changes are noted. Several loops of small bowel appear decompressed in the mid to left hemiabdomen. There are additional gas-filled loops of mildly edematous small bowel left hemiabdomen. Moderate amount retained fecal material is noted through the colon. There is a small amount of free fluid in the pelvis. No free air is demonstrated.

    Update and question...oh the pain

Nope no at all. Here’s the impression from the CT: 1.Noting some decompressed loops of small bowel and gaseous distention of the adjacent nondependent small bowel, postoperative ileus is favored over partial small bowel obstruction. Follow-up is suggested. 2. Gastric bypass changes and a small amount of free fluid in the pelvis without evidence for free air. 3. Small dependent right pleural effusion.

What percent of your stomach do they take out?

that's for the sleeve. They don't remove any of the stomach with the bypass - they just section it off with surgical staples.

    ❄DEC 2019 CHALLENGE❄

I feel like I'm cheating on a self-care thread 'cause I'm on vacation! (And currently sipping my tea on the balcony of my hotel room!) 1. My personal goal is to get back down to 150. 2. I had VSG in Feb 2018, revised to RnY Oct 2018. 3. my weight before I left on vacay was 153 Lbs. 4. My favorite winter activity is arts/crafts or maybe vacay to somewhere tropical? 😁
  25. Stumbled across this app at just the right time. Have my Sleeve surgery in 9 hours. This is my first post. I'm 34/M/NJ SW 347 DOS 318 CW GW 215 I had Lap-band installed in 2013, it slipped had it removed in 2016, was supposed to do revision a few months later, but chickened out. Then after yo-yoing the last 3 years, and increasingly worsening back pain, finally decided to go through with it. Was kinda here reading through here psyching myself out a bit. But know the benefits outweigh the fear. Anyone else out there a 12/2 sleever? Or December at all? Best of luck to all of ya! -Steve Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app
