Sorry this happened to you, the lap band has caused respiratory issues in MANY lap banders when acid reflux gets so bad, the acid reflux can get very dangerous if not treated with removing saline and medications, timely, and as you can see cause respiratory issues, many have also reported aspiration pneumonia from long term reflux and band slippage. Please be advised the Sleeve CAN cause horrible reflux as well and MANY now are having to revise to the Bypass if the reflux get really bad with the Sleeve, since there is no turning back after you get your stomach removed. I hope you can find relief and answers, good luck.

Able to eat almost anything
Kathy Rozas replied to carmenlw3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the bypass in 2003. I did not follow directions , lost only half the weight I needed to. Gained every lb back. Got disgusted and did not do anything about it until this year. They scoped me and then told me that my pouch was relatively normal but my anastomoses was dilated greater that 10 cm. That's bigger than a new born baby's head. I was able to eat everything and anything. Not large portions because of the pouch , but I became a bottomless pit. I had a revision done 3 months ago. I've lost 50 lbs and am now in a plateau. But I can shake it off. I am very careful to pay attention to how I feel when eating. I try very hard not to eat things that aren't going to injure my pouch, soft food. I know it's never too late to make fresh starts and no giving up this time. Take care of yourself as if you were your own child. Follow instructions to the best of your ability. Your body underwent great trauma to make yourself healthy. Don't damage your operation results , talk to your doctor and tell him/her what's been going on and seek instructions to help undo any damage you may have done. You have gone through a lot, way too much to get nothing for your efforts. Good luck to you and remember that You Can Not eat anything and everything. Good luck to you and also to me. Teri, So the twisted port, it is okay now? Will it go back to normal? If they revise it, that means they go back in? I still look like I have a third boob. I swear I thought it would be hidden. Even so where the swelling is turns out the port is lower. If I try I can even feel it. But I do worry, which is why no sit ups. Teri, really, my stomach hangs so low anyway, will it really do any good. I have a Turkey Neck - gobble gobble gobble Hanging Turkey Arms Hanging tummy But my but and thighs are getting firm from walking. Hey I am over 50, I don't need a tight butt, I would like a less saggy neck though. Everyone tries to be helpful and they say, Oh you can take care of that. WHAT ANOTHER SURGERY. No way, I guess I will come to love the extra skin. Don't they have that squishy undies that sucks you in??? Besides, as down as I might get, when I see as I was told by my Band Buddy - two wet tube socks hanging from your chest, I remember my real reason for the band. To get healthy. I just have to keep my eye on the ball - a healthy heart. Sorry for being down, bad day, terrible day, shitty day, you pick the word. Debbie:blush:

My port also flipped. I think the first day home after having the band placed. I felt it. I had the port revision and fill of 2cc. I went to doc yesterday and gained 1lb. I am so frustrated. I started exercising as told and I gained. I do not understand.

Revision RNY to distal RNY vs DS
kikie1973 replied to kikie1973's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had my RNY in 2002 and lost 220 pounds...2006 was a stressful year because I got married, moved 1000 miles away from family at my husband's request...I started eating sweets again which is like a drug to me...by 2009 I had only gained back about 40 so I wasn't too worried about it...then my dad got sick and almost died and that threw me into a deep depression as we'll as denial about my slow weight regain...over the next 8 years I ended up weighing 388 (not my highest) and decided to look into a revision...the surgeon I am seeing is the third opinion I've gotten...he supposed to be one of the best revisionists in the country...I am more determined to make this revision work then I was for the original surgery...back then I was in denial that I could gain it back...I'm also active in therapy where my eating is a topic. I've also done a lot of research about the DS and am aware of the high complication rate but since there is not much on success with a distal revision I was aiming toward that...so I was looking here for possible successes to help me decide to stay with this surgeon or travel far distances to hopefully find one that will do the DS on me. Oh and I'm now down to 360 bmi 59.9 because I've completed one of three consecutive months in my supervised diet...a pre-op requirement. Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App -
Revision RNY to distal RNY vs DS
kikie1973 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I have a decision to make that I hope some of you can help me with...I had RNY in 2002...I'm looking to get a revision...the surgeon I have seen will only revise me to a distal RNY...I am more interested in the DS...should I trust him or look for another surgeon...this type of revision is only done by a handful of surgeons in the USA due to it's complexity Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App -
You should be just fine. I've been fighting the OPM for many months over a revision. In what they've written to me it's pretty much a done deal with a BMI 40+. They've even indicated if I gain to 40 they'll change their minds bout my revision (grrr). I don't think you'll have any problems at all. Britt

Can You Get Approved For Lap Band Surgery If You Have No Health Problems?
Shellyac replied to myownjourney's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The decision of what procedure to get is up to you and your doctor. The most important thing is that you get the procedure you are more comfortable with, for most people with the band the fact that you're not cutting your stomach and not rearranging your digestive system was a major reason for choosing the band, at least it was for me. You should also consider what life will be like after surgery. For sleeve and bypass patients, you don't have to follow up with your doctor as often as band patients. Also the process of getting to optimal restriction is often not easy and can take several months and for some people who had to revise from the band never found that green zone. You should also consider how your eating habits will have to change for each procedure, each procedure has it's own set of issues. Also keep in mind that if you want to have the sleeve you will need to make sure that your insurance company will cover it for your BMI, some companies only cover it for patients with a BMI of 50 or higher but this will probably change relatively soon. Finally there is a new procedure called plication where your stomach is folded in on itself and sutured in a sleeve instead of being removed. Initial results show similar weight loss to the sleeve but with fewer complications and this procedure should also be reversible. Since it is new it's not covered by insurance companies yet as a stand alone procedure but they will cover it if you are also having the band at the same time. The benefit of having the combo procedure is that plication seems to eliminate some of the common band complications like erosion and slippage and it should also help you to not be able to cheat the band because your stomach size is reduced. There aren't that may doctors preforming the procedure yet but it's starting to become more common. The main drawback is that there isn't that much long term data on the procedure. -

Stall - revision sleeve to bypass
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to ocdennise's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
How much have you lost since your revision? Sometimes during stalls, we don't lose pounds, but we are losing inches. I think it also depends on how much weight you have to lose. The less you have to lose, the slower weight loss can be. And stalls can happen all along the weight loss journey. I think they're a normal part of the process. It's our bodies/metabolisms adapting to the changes our bodies are going through. I'm only 6 weeks post op Band to Bypass revision. But I seem to be a slower loser than those with virgin bypasses. My restriction is there, depending on what I eat. Of course I feel it more with denser proteins. Compared to my Band, the Bypass seems to feel completely natural, unlike my Band. When I was able to start exercising, and increased my calories a bit, I noticed the scale started moving better. I hope to be released tomorrow to be able to lift weights again, I know that will also help me more. Best Wishes! -
Revision 12 years later? Band to...
Sherrie Scharbrough replied to twistedbarbieLA's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Personally I wouldn't go into a revision with the thought of having another surgery. If you are like me, I want it done right the 1st time. I know about the Band as my hubby had his for 13years and then all of the sudden he couldn't eat or drink. The plan was to revise the band to the RNY. When they got in there his band had eroded into his Liver. There was to much bleeding and damage that they backed out and told him in 3 months they would do another surgery to the RNY, he got deathly sick because he had Abcesses. He was so sick and it went on and on!! For 9 months and 2 extra surgeries and Wound Vac and daily removal of the black bandage that looked like a SOS pad. # months he doesn't even remember!! It was HORRIBLE to say the least!! Fast forward to 2015, we used my Kia Soul and got a loan. We went to Juarez, Mexico. Thats another story that I won't have you suffer thru. When they got in there his entire right side was solid scar tissue, once again they couldn't do the revision to a RNY!! They did do a SLEEVE on him and a year later he has lost 135#'s!! Also lost enough that they could do a ablasion on his kidney because he had Cancer. They couldn't do anything until he lost enough weight. So that was a huge relief for us all. Any how this has been a long post and I am sorry, but I just wanted to say we don't always get what we want done so I stick with my upper post as "Don't go into WLS thinking that later you can have another WLS done. Good Luck I look forward to following your journey!! -
Anyone from Northern Ontario on the Band Wagon?

they must have revised their prices then as when I was 'shopping around' for a band surgeon in June they were more expensive than TLBC. I hear good reports on both clinics -
Can anyone else eat a good amount of food at a month out??
Hip replied to Hip's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ive been staying below 60-70 carbs a day for 2 weeks. I have all my protien and almost all my water. I followed my food steps and am a month out where I am supposed to start introducing regular food. I eat under 1000 calories a day. Sorry if i make you mad by asking if other people can eat a lot. im just curious. My heaviest weight was 369....I weigh 247. Thats 122 pounds. Im no stranger to weight loss. I got rid of the band because of issues and got a revision. Not trying to cheat it but wondering if i am not alone in being able to eat more than anyone else. I was under 1000 calories yesterday and at 40 some carbs. -
Mermaiddeams, I'm in a similar situation. Can't wait to get this thing out and heal. Then, I will consider revision surgery. Not sure if I can handle all that comes with wls again. It has been tough! Also, I experience the heart pounding as well. What the heck is that from!?!? Do you know? I never had it prior to the band and have been wondering if it is related to this crappy device.

This is interesting for those considering the sleeve....
Guest replied to a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Well, my surgeons do VBG revisions so they can be done, whether to sleeve or bypass, I don't know. But at least one was revised to a sleeve, because she told our LapSF Yahoo! group about it. But this VBG was done with a mesh band around the top, not mesh all over the stomach like WASa is describing. So the rest of the stomach was virgin. It was just top part that had the hole and the mesh band. Dr. J (who did the surgery) took hours, though, because it was such a delicate operation and the first surgeon she contacted said there was nothing that could be done for her so it's not something just anyone can do. But, as I said, she was very close to dying from complications from her VBG, so I think it was worth it to her to take a chance on a leak. This is one reason why people come to the VSG board and say their surgeon is going the sleeve this "new and improved" way where they put a band around the top like a VBG, I say  I just can't see why someone would willing do that, given what we know about the VBG and what happens when you push mesh around the stomach. __________________ Originally posted at www.lapbandtalk.com -

I think a VBG to VSG is a pretty natural operation. You would just be taking out the band and finishing the transection of the stomach. I'd think you could probably revise to a bypass as well, but I'm not sure about the band. That might be trickier because your stomach has a hole in it now. Both of the surgeons at LapSF (where I went) have done VBG to sleeve revisions including at least one I know about that was VERY HAIRY because the band was so embedded into the stomach. But this person was on a liquid diet for over a year beforehand due to problems with her VBG. So it was totally worth it for her. In fact, it probably saved her life. But if you aren't having big problems, I would guess your operation wouldn't be as hairy as hers was. You would still want to go to someone very experienced with revisions, even if you have to travel to find them. Revisions have higher risks so experience is even more important than it is when your stomach is a "virgin." If you do get a VBG to sleeve revision, the aftercare can be handled by your PCP so that shouldn't be an issue. __________________ Originally posted at www.lapbandtalk.com -
An infected port site would be red, swollen, and/or warm to touch, maybe with pain. In a new post-op, it would probably be caused by bacteria exposure during surgery and would be treated with antibiotics and careful wound care. In a later post-op, it's often a sign of band erosion - the bacteria travel from the band, along the tubing, to the port. The treatment for band erosion is removal of the band. Depending on the damage done to the stomach, the patient might eventually be able to revise to a different WLS procedure. Most surgeons want the stomach to heal completely before performing further surgery.

Band to Sleeve Revision Leaks?
joking188 replied to gigi14's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had my revision on August 6th and my surgeon did a drain that way if a leak occurred I would know right away. They should do a contrast before you drink anything. My only regret is that I waited this long for my revision. As of yesterday I am down 35 pounds. So much easier than lap band was for me. You will do great because we have the eat slow and chew our food slowly down pat! Good luck! -
I just had my band out a month ago and going for sleeve surgery on October 8th. My doctor said my stomach needs two months to heal before he could do the revision to the sleeve surgery. I've been nervous lately about leaks, has anyone had a revision to the sleeve and then had a leak?Tyia

Sleeve vs RNY
Sherrie Scharbrough replied to toby585's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Just a thought. Everyone says that the SLEEVE is less invasive but what about them removing up tp 80% of your stomach. Yes the RNY does have its issues but you will hear of so many having to get the revisions done. For some reasons like GERD etc. I think that if it is medically needed to revise that is one thing but so many times on different sites you hear them say my SLEEVE or Lap Band didn't work for me I stopped losing weight. Or whatever. I also don't think anyone should go into a WLS with intentions of revision surgery later on. Now I know that I will catch back lash on this but...each to their own!! I hope everything goes great for everyone. Take care -

Menopause
Sanders001 replied to Naughty Glitter Goddess's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had a mommy make-over (152 lbs 10 years after lap-band) and 6 months later started gaining weight really fast (gained 60 lbs within 4 months which is why I’m back on the Bariactric site), got tested and I was IN menopause at 48. I read that surgery can push you in to it. I having a revision done on Tuesday and I’m scared to death it won’t work as well thanks to the hormone/surgery thing.
