I know this doesn't technically count because its breakfast & not dinner, but I had 1.5 eggs and a meatless sausage patty with a few ounces of Trop50 OJ. Felt like a real meal!! First "meal" I've eaten since surgery that wasn't just some chicken breast or yogurt, etc. it's the small victories -
Tracy, So glad to hear he's feeling better. I can't imagine the stress you were having not knowing what was happening and trying to do your best. You deserve a stiff drink for that one. And a long nights rest. Do make sure he walks around every now and then. Don't let it settle in his lungs. Take care of both of you. Working on my fourth round of 20 ounces of water. Haven't even started any of the cooking so I'm doing good food wise. Can it be bad to have to much yogurt in one day? I've had 2 yoplaits already and was just wondering. I'll check in later.

Any April surgery buddies
Miss_Tee replied to Relle2190's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved April 3rd, the taste buds changes quickly. I use to like the shakes and after surgery the vanilla was sickly sweet. Then they started to make me sick so I switched to powder...again sick. My doctor told me to switch to unflavored powder and sprinkle the protein in my greek yogurt, egg whites, and applesauce. So I get as close as I can to my protein intake daily. Monday I'm graduating to soft and squishy foods. I can find foods high in protein and meet my intake. Bye bye liquids -

I;ve been packing my lunch. Lots of lunchmeats and chicken salad. Green beans too. Cottage cheese or yogurt for mid-day snack. I bought some of the reusable things you freeze to keep things cold. Works great! Rubbermaid has 1/2 cup containers that I use - perfect was to measure - without measuring Going out to lunch with co-workers for the first time on Friday. We're going to a cajun seafood place so I know I can get boiled shrimp and asparagus. Yum Yum! -

My tastes really have changed also. Some other proteins I eat are hummus, different beans, i like veggie burgers. I also make "sandwiches" with low fat cold cuts and cheeses and use lettuce in place of bread. I am sort of hooked on those right now. I don't know if you like tofu or not, I think it tastes like what ever you cook it in. Shrimp is one of my favorites because you can make it so many ways. I also make cheesburgers on th george forman grill with lean ground beef. A lot of of the extra grease drips out and again I replace buns with lettuce. You can also add some nuts to salads. Just watch serving size. I also have a natural peanut butter that I use with apples or bananas. Just measure it accurately. Greek yogurt is high in protein, not a fan of yogurt since surgery though. Also I tried Quest bars, very high in protein. They have a weird chewy texture, come in tons of flavors, maybe you could find one you like. -

How far out are you MrsNellieC? I am SO jealous! What kind of meat did you have in the fajita? Heck, I am at 4 weeks on Monday and still have trouble/pain swallowing applesauce sometimes. Yesterday had a major puking episode after only 3 bites of scrambled egg and yogurt. I WANT FAJITAS!!!! -

Bean soup? Yeah, me neither. It will be a full month before I'm on "regular" food. I have two weeks of full-liquids, then a week of pureed...baby food, then a week of soft foods and then on to regular foods, but slowly, one at a time. Also, the BACK PAIN! Yikes, me too. It is just now getting better...I agree, must be how they positioned me on the table. But for whatever reason, it still hurts and I'm on day 9 post-op. I will tell you this though, if I get in 3 Protein shakes a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and some creamy soup or yogurt in between and at least 2-3 (mostdays I can only manage 2) 20 oz bottles of Water, I feel pretty good. I still cannot bend to pick something off the floor...my middle still hurts. But if the floor could meet me half way, then it would be fine. And not to be gross or overshare, but did anyone else have diahrrea for the first week-ish? I know that gas they pump you full of has to get out somehow. However, I didn't expect it to bring friends with it. Especially given the clear liquid diet I was on pre-op. I can say that as of two days ago, it finally stopped. Thankfully, cause those first few days you cannot move really fast and that situation was making me need to move rather quickly. As for pain meds, yeah I stopped taking those during the day about 4 days ago and was only taking them at night. I went back to work the day after I got home from the hospital (no freaking out, I work from home), but was having loads of trouble talking to clients and trying to be coherent. Thankfully the pain started to diminish quickly and this week I only take some at night to make sleeping more comfortable. Although, they kinda stick with me. Think they get stored in your fat stores and as you are losing weight, the meds get released, built in time-release so-to-speak. But they do help with making moving more comfortable at night. Now, I'm moving on to intentional exercise. I like the 10 minutes 3 times a day. I think that would be perfect right now. And in a week-ish, I'm going to add strength training...light strength training, mind you. Not interested in pulling incisions open. -

Thank you! I also said the same thing about cheese... i will change anything! ... except the cheese that's one part of me i will hold on too [emoji23][emoji23]. I'm sacrificing alot more for a healthy life. I also dont care about yogurt so i'm not going to include it in my diet at all... i prefer to save those calories for cheese when i'm able to eat it. When you say plant based.. what exactly did you buy that's plant based? -
I am absolutely being tortured. My pre-op diet is: Meal 1-eggs, oatmeal, yogurt, fruit, ect. any two. Meal 2-Protien Shake Meal 3-Lean meat, and green vegetable Meal 4-Protien Shake I am at work, this week they are ordering food in all week. I have to smell their food for two hours before I take my lunch break. I am drinking a ton of water and am still starving. It sucks. By lunch time I am so hungry I could eat anything. Yes I know I am a big whiner and I know in the end it will all be worth it. But right now my stomach doesnt understand or care about all of that. If I had this much willpower I wouldnt be in this situation to begin with. Sorry, I needed to have a pitty party.

Hi Guys - Just wanted to check in. I was banded on Monday and I gotta tell you, this surgery kicked my ass! I've had several laproscopic surgeries before, always came through just fine, no gas, no pain. Not this time! Tuesday and Wednesday were the worst, with the pain and nausea. Feeling better now, just have a very low energy level. Got out of the house for a few hours today and almost passed out in Eddie Bauer! Hunger is minimal. I've been living on yogurt, soup, thinned mashed potatoes and water. It's so weird to me to not be hungry, or to be full before I'm even done eating! I'll start back on some protien shakes next week. My best to everyone, pre and post banding!

I am eating more mushies than I am supposed to. I just hate to drink all those liquids and not feel full. I have been chewing so much that the food is liquid before it goes down. What do you all think about yogurt? Does it add to the gas problems? That is what my nurse said, but I had not heard that. I am headed to fitday.com to see how much I have had today, LOL!

Hello restriction! You are back my old friend! Since my re-fill on Friday I have played it pretty safe with yogurt, oatmeal, tomotoe bisque ....... I had a couple reduced fat wheat thins with cheese earlier today. Tonight I heated up some chili (my old stand-by protein food) and didn't even eat as much as I thought would be a serving. I got that full signal and took one more bite of maybe 2 beans. My nose started running and I had a sneeze attack. That is my you-took-one-bite-too-many signal. -

I'm back! I had to go to south Texas for a software training class for work. It was a 6 hour drive there on Sunday afternoon and training from 9-4 and home at 11 pm. I ate 1/4 of a Reuben sandwich, 1 french fry, and a chocolate chip cookie on Sunday and Monday I had a greek yogurt that I had brought then we ate at a Tex-Mex resturant and I had a crispy taco and 5 chips with hot sauce and on the way home a bowl of loaded potato soup. I was sick as hell when I got home. Now that I rarely eat out it really affects me when I do. I forced my 15 year old son to go with me. It was nice to have just him around, it was like we were before he became a teen and had better things to do than hang out with mom. Of course, he was on the laptop and texting his girlfriend but I did get some conversation from him. Remeber when you just had to ride with no entertainment? I did lose a pound, it took 11 days this time. I am exactly equal to the absolute lowest weight since I got pregnant with my son, when I lose 1 more pound I will offically be thinner than I have been in 16 years. :smile2: -

Leigha and Karen, I hear you! Though I am only on my third fill, I am HUNGRY! I know I will need more fills (Fourth fill: May 20th, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon!) I spent yesterday being stark, raving hungry! I ate egg whites, cheese, and turkey sausage at 10:30, ate some chicken at 11:30 and was barely able to make it to my cottage cheese at 2:30, and again was ravenous for yogurt at 5:30 and then AGAIN couldn't wait for dinner at 8:30. Man! I just keep telling myself I'm biding my time and that 27 pounds is an awesome amount in 13 weeks. It also helps that I keep having to pull up my new jeans because they're too loose. -
Really wanting to go Vegetarian (still eat eggs and cheese)
catwoman7 replied to CherokeeGirl's topic in Vegetarian or Vegan Eating
I eat almost no meat (I can go days in a row without it). I've done fine with Protein. I eat a lot eggs, cheese (string cheese and cottage cheese are especially high in protein), and Greek yogurt. Although I'm only three months out so I'm still drinking a Protein shake every day, too. -
You seem to be doing great , I am on day 6 and not really eating to much at all . Spoonful of yogurt here and there . I could not agree more with you about the planning around food . The past week has been really different from previous Friday night dinner out at our fav Italian restraunt.

I was able to transition to puréed -soft food and I'm very happy about that! Never thought I'd be excited to eat cottage cheese but it tasted wonderful. So meals have been Greek yogurt, hard boiled eggs and cottage cheese. Usually full after about 1/4-1/3 cup but it's such a nice change from liquids. The dietitian said the brain fog would fully lift as I got more carbs. Still have some residual blurred vision from the meds- but that should clear up soon. Bonus, don't have to go to the dry cleaner this week. My closet full of "shrinking" clothes ar now fitting again.

Why I eat baked potatoes, brown rice and whole grain bread
MIZ60 replied to Creekimp13's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The average bariatric patient does not get a massive amount of anything. At almost 6 months out I use about 7 ounces of premiere protein shake daily in my coffee...you said before that you do this to. I do not eat protein bars, only an ounce or less of natural cheese a day, plain Greek yogurt maybe 3 times a month and have not had milk in over 6 months. I do take the recommended calcium citrate. Sorry but this particular rant is really crazy. Fat people are getting cancer because that eat massive amounts of dairy? Post a link to that study please, I would really like to see it and share with some of my friends at high risk for breast cancer due to family history. -
Why I eat baked potatoes, brown rice and whole grain bread
Creekimp13 replied to Creekimp13's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
We do practice calorie control. From week three until goal...my calorie goal was 1000-1200 calories per day. We are encouraged to move liberally. Lots of daily walking and 30 minutes of cardio or resistance training 3 times a week. My particular diet allowes 75 calories of "treats" per day that can be banked for special occasions. I do eat meat. When I do, it's mostly chicken and fish. I very occasionally eat fresh red meat. I get more than half of my daily require protein from plant/carb bases sources. I eat 60g of protein per day. Because research strongly links cancer to dairy and processed meats, I avoid any form of deli/luncheon meat, whey shakes, whey protein bars, yogurt, cheese, milk. I occasionally eat these things in small quantities. I know bariatric patients who are getting 30%+ of their calories from these sources...and it's worth reviewing the research for your own safety. -

New blog! Surgery on Wednesday!
Carole replied to AprilS's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Good luck on your surgery. I ate pizza the nigh before as I think I ate so many my stomach was the size of a pizzzzza:( It was my first love. Sick to say but I followed the pre op diet exactly; for three weeks no food only the shakes and bars. I only lost 18+ pounds and was to lose 30! But so many people that knew me from where I came from and here who had surgeries like this kept saying: Just follow the instructions the doc gives you and the book. You will be fine. So, in the beginning getting down the shakes and water were so funny because the amounts were so small but it allowed the stomach to heal and for me to forget about the old ways of eating.. I ate all of it. Tv as a problem when they show people drinking and eating food on every show. So, I felt like I wanted to join in like a subminimal sp? message. So: my eating was from over eating and living with animals. One dog and two cats. Not many humans to talk to. So: I learned alot about myself and remember the days when I was 8-10 and used to run and do the sit ups 200 a day. After the six weeks were up; I went to PT as the wt was too much for me the past two yrs I didn't lose wt. So, I got stronger/ hurt my back/ and flew off the side of the mower putting me back a month on real exercise at the Y. I may go today as my first day but do isometrics on the bed and they work. I'd try to get pt afterwards if your not an exerciser and are weak in your strength and it's good to strengthen our backs. I am doing great and went from 272 at fasting/ to 265 operation date April 11th, after that each month went to the doc office to get weighed on the 11th or around there and I am now 185 lbs or less. I go to him tomorrow and can't wait. I have 50more pounds to remoe but I feel better already; walk faster, and can do more or even feel like doing more. There are times I feel like eating pasta but only a little works/ and chew it thoroughly. I don't feel great aferwards if it's in soup so it's a waste of room something else could be in the stomach that's a protien not a carb. So, I am very careful to not eat sugar, I do have to get my water intake up as I am low still 24 to 48 oz sporatically and need to be at 64 fl oz. but I am still using the shake am's to give me 32protiens and try to eat protien lunch and dinner to make up for the rest. I got the vitimans ordered prior to surgery so I'd have all I needed at home to prepare the shakes ahead of time in a baggie and just add the amt of almond or coconut milk, frozen fruit as ice cubes and use walnuts with no salt for snacks which is more protien. At first it's good to just have the jellows, puddings, which I hate anyways, but it takes our mind set and puts it else where so we can know: it's what we need to heal our new stomach. And as we move on to the broths and peanut butter in the shakes etc. we drink a little slower. I use a yogurt senstations? from Food lion which has plain/5grams of fat. Half in one shake also helps us to get in what we need. It takes a while to get used to it but I loved not having all those dishes in the sink... I found making food to give away once in a while is satisfying to me as I can make what I want and it looks too heavy or reminds me of the past and I dont' have a desire for it. I can try a little and there is this feeling you get and you know; best to not try it at this time, down the road; more is accepted and tollerated but until a yr. I am doing the best I can to do what I am supposed to do staying away from salts and sugars. Fake sweetners etc. except for crystal lite... water used to go down so easy now I have to sweeten it up. I went into this as I'm brought to it; remove the part that has not worked well for me... and Healing will take place. Hope this gives you Hope and know: IF you eat when your supposed to and follow directions, things will fall into place as each phase of the program moves forward quickly and you can try new things. Moving on to Solids!
Inner Surfer Girl replied to wishful_thinking's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I started soft foods this week so I have tried Taco Bell pintos and cheese and scrambled egg, in addition to the yogurt and cottage cheese that counted for me under full liquids. After a grocery store run I want to try ricotta bake. I don't add tuna until next week.
