Sleeve revision to RNY or Bypass reason
dorkyfaerie replied to AchieveGoals's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am likely revising to RNY from sleeve in May or June 2020 (I would do it right away, but have too many prior commitments between now and May that I can’t). I have constant GERD that has not responded well to any treatments and did have controlled GERD prior to sleeve. -

Jacsmith01 replied to Lisa821's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Hello, I had gastric bypass in October 2019, it’s now December 2019. I had labs recently and my potassium was low. I am exhausted. I work, exercise take my vitamins, Eat properly, 2 protein drinks a day yuck! But I do it. When I get home from work I’m in the bed. No energy what so ever. I walked at least 15, 000 steps or more a day. I have a job that requires me to walk, I’m loosing weight but I’m exhausted! HELP! -
Shorter menstrual cycles, lighter flow, Endometriosis, constipation, fertility
Darktowerdream replied to LondonSleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’m not much good for fertility pointers since I’d had a hysterectomy in 2010 due to excessive fibroid growths, they were rapid growing along with nodules and cysts everywhere. then just before my gastric bypass surgery I had pelvic floor surgery and had to have one ovary removed it was covered in endometriosis. Years ago a doctor said I had endometriosis but the only way he could diagnose was to put me in medical menopause but I didn’t want that. It took finding this doctor and having this surgery to correct post hysterectomy problems to finally get diagnosis for endometriosis. recently I needed one of the pelvic floor surgeries corrected and the other ovary removed and endometriosis implants removed as well as ended up diagnosed officially with interstitial cystitis. That diagnosis also took too many years to happen. I’m sorry I’m no help. but what I can say is that with rapid weight loss it floods your body with hormones that will trigger the endometriosis worse. As for constipation I suggest asking your doctor about linzess. I can’t take laxatives. Most make me sick. I hope that this works out for you. -
Trouble getting approved for revision

Find another dr. If you are able to find one that does revision to ds/Sadi/sips it may be your best bet. Do t give up on the word of just one dr. -
Trouble getting approved for revision
follmerpa posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I was sleeved about 4 years ago since then I have been on a different antidepressant and gaining weight back. Starting weight 368 lost 114 pounds now I’m back to 302. Doctor says revision is not an option because of meds. Has anyone else had trouble getting doctor to do revision? thank you -
I'm also having surgery on 12/31. But for a gastric bypass. Hopefully it will be uneventful and you will heal quickly. I've been on a liquid diet since the 24th. Seeing my family eat while I had chicken broth really sucked. Only thing I wished different is being able to talk my surgeon into a Dilatatal switch instead of a Gastric bypass. He said I didn't weigh enough. Long term results are better. It's going to suck around holidays but better than having weight related health problems. Hang in there. I have lost 57lbs since July. I think second thoughts are normal and expected at some stage preop. How much do you need to lose? 30 pounds is a terrific start. It is really hard but not impossible to lose a significant amount of weight and keep it off without surgery. I'd like to encourage you to keep going and not have cold feet. I have lost 101 pounds toral, and about 85 pounds in 9 months post bypass. I am cured of diabetes and high blood pressure and can do many things I was too heavy to do before. This is the best decision I ever made! Best wishes to you! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Chest ache 5 weeks post op
Losingit2018 replied to Beaconkitty's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So sorry to hear this. Please keep us posted on the diagnosis. Wishing you the best outcome. I had a revision to bypass 5 weeks ago. I ate too much by maybe a tablespoon Christmas Eve. I experienced the same as you but after getting sick with foamies, it did go away. -
I’ll be the crazy one and admit I miss most of all Celery. I’m never hungry now at all, and have to set a timer to eat or I don’t get all my protein for the day. I’m 16 days post op of RNY bypass and just now allowed stage 3 purées soft foods. For the past 3 weeks tho I’ve wanted Celery and I can’t say Celery has ever been my big go to food just a snack I’d eat with chicken wings or dip in spinich dip. Nutritionist says it’s because I’m missing the crunch of food, which makes sense. I tried making Celery soup thinking it would cure me of this infatuation I’m having but I was quite disappointed and upset as not only did it not taste like Celery to me but I wasn’t able to eat it as it just wasn’t what I wanted so I chose to protein shake that meal instead. I’ve thought of pureeing some celery but a lil voice in my head tells me it will disappoint me too.😪

I don't have a DS I have a bypass. I'm a vegetarian, NOT a vegan (I use dairy and eggs). So far nothing has bothered me. You probably are already taking B12 supplements, multivitamins and calcium? Getting enough protein might be a challenge for you, especially if you won't use whey isolate. I eat tofu, beans, lentils, eggs, cheese and peanut butter for my protein source. My dietician knows about my food choices and says it can be easily done for a vegetarian. Hopes this helps some.

How normal is it to pass out after some time after surgery?
Ninja-slash-nerd posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
this happened to a friend who had the sleeve and now I'm worried it will happen to me after bypass surgery. -
First time posting...and trying to calm myself down that I haven’t screwed this up already. I had my bypass 13 days ago, and have been feeling AMAZING. Today, though, I made two mistakes- I picked up the kitchenaid blender to put it away (waaay too heavy) and felt a little soreness. It went away after a while and then for dinner my family was having pizza. I had a very small portion of the ricotta cheese from a calzone, but there was a little mozzarella mixed in. I chewed super well but tummy didn’t like it. I threw up a little and have had a sore abdomen all evening. It’s been about 4 hours and my abdomen/stomach is still sore and tender to the left of my belly button, below the rib cage. I’ve googled every thing I can think of. Did I tear something? Is it leaking? Or is it common after a vomiting episode to still be sore hours later? I just feel disappointed in myself, and scared I’ve done real damage.

Lol, when I was young I always felt the cold so I have lived most of my adult life in the Mohave Desert. But as the years passed, the weight piled on, feeling cold was a thing of the distant past. I was 315 at my heaviest and 280 at the time of my surgery. Fortunately my best friend who had had gastric bypass a few years earlier, had warned me that I would be cold s the time. She wasn’t kidding. I keep a flannel throw in the living room to cover with, and I wear socks and slippers to keep my feet warm. For Christmas, my granddaughter made me a blanket (with bears on it because I collect bears) that will now join the throw on my chair. Lol, I also invested in a small ceramic heater that blows warmth directly on me while my polar bear of a husband can continue to sit in his desired frigid temperatures

Need help with food stuck in pouch
FluffyChix replied to Ninja-slash-nerd's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
We are all different. I was instructed when I have a food that I added and it did that to me, I was supposed to go back 1-2 stages for a day or two until the inflammation resided. Then try to progress again with ONPLAN foods. Carrots (raw) are NOT part of the puree stage. Well-steamed carrots? Would be ok to puree, BUT when you cook carrots to that point, they have a crap ton of available sugar in them and may spike your blood sugar and since you are a bypass pt. you might have an episode of dumping with sufficient quantity. So a better choice would be butternut squash, canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling), or even a bit of well-cooked sweet potato. Or even better, roasted smashed cauliflower. Glad you feel better today. -

Sleeve revision to mini vs full bypass
bikerchick519 replied to Missynik's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had the sleeve and after horrible reflux had the mini because I was told it would fix it. Reflux is worse than ever and now I need a full bypass. Super upset I have to have another surgery. I wish I would have just gotten the full bypass and not the mini but that's what my surgeon recommended. Waiting to see if insurance will pay for this revision, they denied me last time. -

I looked into the Lynx surgery. It's a magnetic ring around the sphincter but every surgeon he consulted said the full bypass is the way to go for me. -

bikerchick519 replied to Photo925's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had the sleeve and then had horrible acid reflux and found out the sleeve was stretched. I had the mini gastric bypass because I was told that would fix it. Well it didn't. I have even worse reflux and found out my esophageal sphincter is not closing. Medication does nothing. After extensive testing I'm being told I need a full gastric bypass. I'm waiting to see if insurance will pay this time. They refused to pay for a revision last time stating my bmi wasn't high enough and I had no co-morbidities. My surgeon is confident he can get it approved so now I'm just waiting to see if it's covered. My first 2 surgeries were in Mexico. -
Need help Weight gain
Healthy_life2 replied to Happily ever after's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I went back and read your past posts on the site. I'm sorry to hear about your brain and spine surgery in 2016. Was the Bypass in February a revision surgery? Your surgeons office ruled out medical issues, right? Did they give you any instructions on diet logging your food in an app? You posted this Posted April 19, 2016 Hi everyone, I am 3 1/2 out and I am gaining weight. I had lost 180lbs with 20 to go but now I have gained 30lbs. Over the passed 2 years I have had two major surgery that have lifted me not able to excise or eat right. I don't have a nut anymore because he retired. Can someone please tell me how I can get back on track. -

Hi all! Merry Xmas Eve if you celebrate. I had my gastric bypass on 12/20. My follow up material clearly states I can have sugar free pudding and yogurt 2-3 days after surgery. I am petrified to try anything other than the shakes water and broth. Can you provide insight on when you tried new foods and what was the worst reaction you had? All of my material seems to have not been cohesive and it seems all I talk to in my program have different guidelines to follow, so I’m nervous!

I need advice please. I’m going through the process with Rex Bariatric in Raleigh. I’m being railroaded into getting a colonoscopy I don’t need by a practice that’s charging too much for it (hundreds of dollars more than other providers within my network). I had low iron results and somehow the next damn step is a colonoscopy? I asked if I could get this done someone place else and they said no. I’m going through this alone and don’t have anyone to fight for/with me. I want to explore getting the bypass done overseas. This colonoscopy is going to delay things by several weeks and, even if it comes back negative, they told me they’re going to run a other test. This sounds like a cash cow situation because I have really good health I sure be. 1) does anyone living in Raleigh/dirham/chapel hill have a referral for a Bariatric center other than Rex? 2) Does anyone have great referral for someone in Mexico who can do this surgery by mid-late February? Please be kind. Im 41, black, tired of life and the hope for this surgery is all I have left. I’m spending Christmas alone and I’m determined for this not to be the case next year. I’m going to drop the weight ASAP, get a new job (because people can look past my fat and see my skills/credentials) and I’ll find someone to love (or at least tolerate me) me. Thank you.

Sleeve revision to RNY or Bypass reason
WOLVESFAN1 replied to AchieveGoals's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had my revision on 12/17/19. I too had complications of GERD from my sleeve that I had almost 13 years ago. Since surgery no GERD. I've been on a liquid diet until yesterday and I was able to start protein shakes with no problem. Prior to the surgery everything including water at times would come up. I lost over one hundred pounds with the sleeve and I did keep it off. I'm currently a bit underweight, but soon I will be able to eat healthier and hopefully live a better life. I must admit the conversion was a bit more painful, but I'm also a lot older too and my body has been traumatized a lot for the last two years. I had my surgery at the # 1 hospital in the country. I won't give the name because I don't want to put something they told me without their permission. Prior to the sleeve I had no problems with GERD. The surgeon told me they no longer do the sleeve there because they have had so many patients come to them for revisions after the sleeve due to GERD. I hope your surgery went as well as mine and you are on the road to recovery.
