Ok It has been years since I have posted on here I am six years out since my revision to RNY. However in the last few months and now in the last few days I can feel sharp pain where the small intestines are connected bypassed on the bottom and I can feel the pain. Its getting worse my surgeon has since retired and I have moved its getting worse the pain I mean, I have been trying to ignore it but now I cannot sleep. I became very Anemic a year ago and they never found the cause. I just want to know if anyone else had this pain and what they did. My wife wants me to ignore it however The pain is increasing across the intestine. any ideas

Saying “hello” to everyone here, and “Happy New Year”. I see my surgeon on January 9, 2020, and we will determine my surgery date. It has taken me more than 2 years to get to this place and I am excited but also feeling a bit anxious. I started worrying last week that I would never be able to truly enjoy any kind of normal food after this, and it would all be chicken breast and steamed veggies. I actually cannot even type that without cringing a bit. Did anyone else who is now well into the gastric bypass journey (or other method) feel this at the pre-op stage? I am active and love cooking, but have always eaten too much my whole life. I do enjoy healthy foods like veggies and fruits but my sweet tooth is crying right now...am I crazy? I worry about how I can do this. Any thoughts you share are appreciated.

I can eat more food in one sitting now than I could during that first year. I think the sleeve gets a little bigger over time. I can't eat as much as I did before the surgery, but it is still too much. I am also looking into doing the Gastric Bypass.

Lap band to gastric bypass
JRT Mom replied to angievasser42@gmail.com's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Yes, the bypass is much better for people who have GERD. I'm happy your niece has had such a great outcome with her RNY! You will do well with this too, especially since you have a family member who's been through it to help you. Keep us posted! -
Lap band to gastric bypass
JRT Mom replied to angievasser42@gmail.com's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I was lucky that my surgeon will do the revision in one surgery. It was nice only having one hospitalization, recovery, etc. My lap band was over 10 years old so I'm not sure the age of the band is a factor as much as the scar tissue is and once it forms it might not get worse the longer it's there. Good luck, y'all! However you do it, it is TOTALLY worth getting that useless band and port out. I can lay on my stomach without the port sticking into me without pain now! -
Lap band to gastric bypass

Thanks, Mark. Good luck with healing from your unbanding and sailing through your bypass! I'm hoping I can be unbanded and get RNY simultaneously. Prefer one surgery to two. Since it has been so long, I'm not sure if that's possible. However, I haven't actually met with any surgeons in person yet, so we'll see. The worst part (I hope) is removing this stinkin' port. There's scar tissue on the tubing, I can feel it. My older sister, BIL and a niece have all had RNY and have been long-term successful. Fingers crossed for all of us! -

Labs after your RNY bypass
Slimming Down Steve posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is there anyone that could share an example of what is looked at on your lab work after a RNY bypass. Don't know if it is just Calcium, and different vitamins, exc.... My primary care physician has a full lab in his practice. He said if he knew what labs are drawn for then he will taylor it for me every 90 days and it won't cost anything through my insurance company. But if I have labs drawn anywheres else will cost me handsomely. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using BariatricPal mobile app -
Does anybody know how long rny patients have to take Opmeprizole?

After your RNY BYPASS how long did your doctor want you to take Opmeprozole? Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using BariatricPal mobile app -
Hello, my husband had Gastric Bypass in mid-November & is currently on mostly soft foods. We are working on trying to cook our meals together for things we can both eat & feed our two kids, as well. I prefer the keto diet for myself to lose the weight I need to lose also, which is not optimal for the bypass diet, at this point I don't think. Has anyone experienced trying to cook meals that everyone can eat or is it easiest just to cook individually based on needs?

Lap Band Slipped... Not sure what to do next
FluffyChix replied to SpaceCowboy74's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm sorry for your troubles! I'd talk to your bari team for sure and get their recs. @elcee is totes right! If it were me, I'd also do the band to bypass route as quickly as possible. Gaunt face happens. It comes with rapid weight loss. But after a year it kinda evens out and you no longer look drawn. Try not to listen to people's opinions and just do what you KNOW must be done. Now for this...the quote. This raises a HUGE red flag to me. Why? cuz it tells me you are emotionally really tied to your food. I'd sure suggest a bariatric counselor so you can work through the headwork this time through. I get wanting a revision just so you can have food without feeling crap after and vomiting. Perfectly natural!!! ((hugs)). But this isn't magic bean surgery. It isn't everything in tiny portions cuz you WILL end up having more room in your tool and you will also learn to eat around it. In my opinion there are very few people who are successful in keeping it off long term without changing their head. I know of some people here who are successful at that, but they HAVE still changed some of the things that they do... -
Lap Band Slipped... Not sure what to do next
elcee replied to SpaceCowboy74's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Generally a sleeve after a band is not recommended because of the extremely high risk of severe reflux. Also former band patients do not do well with a sleeve as they are both only restrictive procedures. A lot of surgeons will recommend an RNY as it has both restrictive and malabsorption components and a much lower risk of reflux. I went band to bypass last Jan and couldn’t be happier. All excess weight list, diet much healthier and no more stuck episodes. -
Happy New Year I just had my lapband removed 2days post op. glad to see that nightmare gone! (banded in 08) I was supposed to get a revision to gastric bypass but too much scar tissue said the surgeon... now I must wait patiently for the 3-5 month for the bypass...ugh! I was so prepared and bought so many items I would need..well guess I’ll heed it sometime in the not so far future...

Revision Surgery Scheduled
Mark.olypenn replied to Mark.olypenn's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Traceyringo, My bypass is scheduled Feb 27 in WA. For months, we were sure I would revise to a gastric sleeve. My first appointment my surgeon recommended gastric bypass, but we were set on a sleeve. It wasn't until my pre-op appointment for my band removal, 3 months later, with the surgeon, that he explained the detailed risks of a sleeve given my history. Realizing I might have the same issues or worst with GERDS and acid reflux, we agreed with his recommendation to do a bypass. This site has helped me better understand what I will face with bypass. Honestly, I am comfortable with the decision and looking forward to the surgery. -
You maintain your weight when you meet your TDEE. Your TDEE depends on quite a lot of things, e. g. age, gender, activity level, past dieting attempts etc. For the sleeve people... yeah, maybe it is the metabolism thing sillykitty already mentioned. For the bypass people there is also the mechanism of malabsorption on top. However, quite a few patients complain that they start gaining on 1800-2000 kcal.

Yep... it definitely gets harder for a lot of us... sleeve and bypass alike

How are you doing? Are you glad you had the revision done now? I just got back from the Dr. office and they want to revise me to RNY due to GERD and erosive esophagitis. I am having mixed emotions about this. The surgery is scheduled for Feb 26th. -
January 2020 Surgery Date
Gem 2020 rny replied to Krimsonbutterflies's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all, greetings from Hereford, England. I’m set for the 20th January for my rny bypass. Was going to have the sleeve but given I currently suffer from heartburn I have decided with the bypass. I’m excited and scared in equal measures -
Did your doctor do a HIDA scan with CCK? This would indicate how well your gallbladder is functioning. a lot of doctors will suggest gallbladder removal for gallstones as a preventative measure to reduce risk of future blockage of bile ducts. for most people any gastric issues after gallbladder removal is temporary, you can help with fat digestion after surgery with use of bile salts and digestive enzymes, which most people should be taking anyway with harder to digest foods. for me my HIDA scan was borderline low function, I had no stones, but had constant pain and symptoms. At first they didn’t think I needed surgery but when I had my gastric bypass surgery the doctor did the gallbladder removal at the same time and it turned out my gallbladder had chronic inflammation. likely it had been an issue for years. it is extremely common for bariatric surgery patients to later need their gallbladder removed due to the rapid weight loss.

I started this journey due to metabolic disorders, inability to exercise due to chronic illness, and after my gastric bypass surgery had to make a decision due to endometriosis that sent me straight into menopause. But thankfully so far due to diligently tracking protein and calories my weight has been going down and I was able to ring in the new year for the first time in many years at the high end of a healthy weight rather than being overweight or obese. I still have 14-20 lbs to lose and loose saggy skin I wish to deal with. My nagging worry is the long term maintenance. Not that I won’t continue to be diligent but what my body will do as my lifelong chronic illness and disability gets worse. Thankfully menopause hasn’t seemed to have made drastic changes. So perhaps I was already heading there anyway.

I just got home from my Dr. appointment and am being revised to bypass due to Gerd and erosive esophagitis on Feb 26th. To be quite honest I don't know what I think about this, but he said it would not get better without it. UGH -
