Hi Jazziej I like your story and you are looking good. I like you have read and researched so much on gastric surgery mostly on youtube but l found some was helpful others scared me a little. I like you am worried about surgery but l know its worth it. The lsd l did was shakes of 200 cals which l purchased from the hospital called Optifast. I could have 4 sachets per day with veg x 2 daily. It started to get hard the last few days of the 2nd week trying to find different ways of making veg look and taste different and not boring. I only drink half cup coffee in the mornings l mostly drink herbal tea as l dont seem to want to drink coffee. I have not found a good protein shake yet my hospital has given me a list so l will look around as they are expensive for a quality protein shake. I hope this has helped.

Acne after surgery?
Pretty_In_Purple replied to beachgurl84's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never had any huge acne problems until after surgery. The doctor said it was not related to the surgery. Maybe not from the surgery itself but the change in diet and exercise, hormones, stress, etc., I had the worse acne i'd ever had about a month after surgery. My advice is, After working out and sweating, wash your face with antibacterial soap or a cleanser that has benzoid peroxide in it. Also, if you are taking biotin, lower your dose. I was taking 5000iu a day. I've halved that to 2,500iu. My face is much better. I always make sure to take the time to wash my face after a workout or if my skin just feels oily. I'm 15 weeks out Monday. -

I have a suggestion about the Isopure - don't buy a case, or even more, until you try them. I bought a case (12 bottles for $50.00 at GNC) and I cannot drink it. I drink the shakes... no problem.... liquids for weeks... no problem... but those things taste sooooo nasty to me. I forced 2 of them down, but going to see if they will take the rest back. Not everyone has the same taste buds, and I know lots of people drink Isopure, but just buy one or two until you see if you like them. I bought some unflavored whey protein powder at GNC, and it has 21 g. of protein in each scoop. I mix it with my yogurt and can't even taste it. I too think it is hard to get in so much protein when you aren't eating much food. Good luck to you!!! Becky

Do you keep a food log? Do you supplement with Protein shakes or bars? Are you getting in your Water? The good news is you will likely continue to lose. The bad news is stalls are fairly common. Your body needs a minute to re-calibrate and adjust to all the changes happening in a relatively short period of time. You can try putting the scale away and taking your measurements instead. Does your nutritionist want your to cut back on calories? I am 4 mths out and avg around 800 - 850 calories a day. I workout 4-5 days a week mostly in classes. Occasionally I have a day where I go higher because I'm hungry.

Taking whole pills
Josh2xh replied to fatinthehead's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had trouble with chewables. They just tasted too much like chalk. The horse pills weren't something I could handle even before surgery. Last week someone told me about gummy Vitamins. They are amazing and taste great. My only concern with them is the sugar content. 3 grams per serving, but I have to weigh that against not taking a Vitamin. -

Any Michigan Peeps?
DeletedMember replied to momma_missie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am from metro Detroit. I had RNY surgery on 3/21 with Dr. Weiner out of Huron Valley Hospital. I was also over 50 BMI, so 6 month diet was waived. It was 6 weeks from first visit on Feb 9th until surgery on March 21st. I have been extremely happy with Dr Weiner. I'm down a total of 90 lbs. 46 lbs in the 6 weeks prior to surgery and 44 lbs in the 8 weeks since surgery. -
Ditto to what everyone is posting....IT WILL GET BETTER! LOTS BETTER! I am 9 weeks out and felt exactly like you....regret! Drinking gets easier, you start feeling better. Just hang in there!! I am sooo happy and 8 weeks ago I thought I would never say that!

I appreciate the support. I had been very health conscience in the last 18 months. Which means my eating post surgery was pretty healthy. I think that may be part of my concern; I wasn't able to do this myself without the surgery. I was working out almost daily last year and managing my calories but only lost 20 lbs in 6 months. I have dropped 20 lbs in the past three weeks! Did any of you feel sad because you weren't able to do his without the surgery?

Throwing up?
Rebeccaabrooks86 replied to Rebeccaabrooks86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks it makes me feel better to know I'm not alone. I will try my best to stop the moment I feel I may be getting stuck and be sure to take tinier bites and chew more. I'll be seeing my surgeon next week to discuss further. I'm still unfilled. -

My insurance requires me to have 6 months of documented dieting which I go to my 5th month appointment next week and 5 years of medical history. I have done everything that was asked but I am having a really hard time with the 5 years of medical history due to my insurance changing every year for the last five years. I have been with the same company for 8 years now but to keep insurance cost down they have changed insurance each year. I do not even know how to start on getting 5 years of history or if I even have 5 years of history. Any suggestions?

The surgery may be science, but the art of eating, post-surgery, isn't one size fits all as I have learned. I had the bypass and a hiatal hernia repair on June 6 and have been expanding my permissible diet within the general guidelines. I find that the hardest thing is the the line between full and over-doing it, particularly with new post surgery foods. I had one instance of "foamies" that caused me great discomfort- I wish I could have puked and gotten it over with; instead, I suffered gastric distress for hours, and eventually fell asleep sitting on the living room couch. You should talk to your nutritionist - sometimes, it seems, it is the food itself; sometimes, perhaps eating too much, too quickly. I'm finding the line between full and overfull to the point of distress to be a pretty fine one and easy to cross. The "frothing/foamies" gave me religion in the sense that I'm more careful about what I put into my gullet, how much and how quickly. This is a significant operation that changes a lot of your physiology- the volume and nature of the food you can accept and the degree to which you can explore new food options (within the guardrails) that don't make you sick. My take, also as a new post op patient, is that you have to take it slowly, be deliberate and work with the surgeons' staff and nutrionist to help you on your way. Nobody said it would be easy, but the rewards start to come pretty quickly. For me, just a little more than a couple months out, I have far more mobility, I'm not focused on the scale but more on my physical capabilities. I go see the surgeon for a follow up next week. My blood work looks pretty good, it has improved already. One other thing: I can still enjoy the sensation of eating good food, but that's subordinate to my main mission to remedy the problems that necessitated the surgery--not just weight loss, but Barrett's. The bypass pretty much eliminated GERD, which was huge. The weight loss is coming a long nicely and I'm deferring to the surgeon's team for advice.

Hi, I'm 6 days post op and will be turning 60 next month. I try pretty hard to hide the silver on the top of my head but after hearing all the stories about hair lose I may be grateful for any strands, no matter the color, in a few months. Think this group is a great idea. I know one thing I've noticed this week is I don't bounce back surgery like I used to. Had a knee repaired 8 years ago and was back at work in a week. I think I will be putting in a few hours each day, from home, next week. Looking forward to hearing from all in the group

So I went to my local family Dr last week and he told me I have high blood pressure and this is a first for me. So he told me to monitor my blood pressure for a couple weeks before putting me on medications. My surgery is November 10 in Mexico & want to get my pressure in check before then! Does anyone have foods they would recommend to lower blood pressure? Did anyone have high pressure prior to surgery? Were you ok or did u go on medication to lower it?

Pre-op challenge #2: Family Birthday Party
kparadisek replied to bloreorbust's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I knoiw exactly what you are going through I'm on my second week of the pre-op diet. We celebrated my Moms birthday and with my family its always food and drinks. Needless to say because my diet allows for one meal I saved that for my Mom's house. She actually had prepared items that I could eat since she knows about my surgery next week. I had a small plate and actually got tired of eating so I wrapped the rest of it to carry with me. Granted since I've been drinking these shakes and eating the small meals I don't really require as much food. As for the drinks, everybody is used to me having wine, long island iced tea or a cosmo but I was on Iced Tea flavored Crystal Light so they all kept asking quesitons. I simply said I'm detoxing my body. I refuse to jeopardize my surgery so that was my motivation. All I could think about was my liver shrinking for my upcoming surgery and the 7 pounds I lost last week. I can't wait to see what the scale will say the end of the week. I'm also going to retake my measurements on Saturday or Sunday along with another picture. Good Luck! We can do this! -
Banded 1/12/11 WEEEEE!!!!!
SpecialK replied to TheShark's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Best wishes to the newbie! You will be thrilled as I am. At three years out, I'm starting to learn the ups and downs of staying down for my -140 lbs and I still have a way to go but I'm so much healthier and happier with myself--regardless of what others think. -
:ohmy:I had the LAP-BAND® 2 yrs ago and just found out that I am 7 weeks prgnt. Totally unexpected and still surprised. Band is still in place - not loosened for pregnancy. Need any and all advice that you all can provide - questions for doctor and any change in vitamins. .

I was under the same impression about Advil and erosion. But I'm approx 4 weeks out as well, and I've used Advil. If there is no restriction then your ok, but if there is and the Advil sits in that small little pouch and only moves slowly, then erosion could occur. Hope u feel better soon!!!

7 wks pregnant - over 40 Yikes
ok813 replied to gordonfmly's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Hey there ladies, I'm 1 year 5 mths out from surgery. I am 25 weeks pregnant as of tomorrow and have only gained 10 lbs so far. My doctor put a weight limit of 15 lbs. for the entire pregnancy because I'm still overweight. I have not had any of my fills removed, my surgeon says only if you have difficulty keeping food or water down will you need to have any removed. So far so good as far as that goes. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I can keep my fills throughout my pregnancy. Good luck with your pregnancy. Hope all is well. -
7 wks pregnant - over 40 Yikes
rachelesq replied to gordonfmly's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Congrats! I am 5 weeks pregnant with my second. I am really excited. I was scheduled for a removal and replacement last Thursday but found out I am pregnant -- I am so happy but concerned about the band. I have a dilated esphogas and a hiatal hernia -- it is going to be a long pregnancy! I had my first son a year out -- I had a slight unfill and no issues. (Hard to relose the weight you gain so be careful!) Rachel
