hey there! been healing away. since i am now one week post op, thought i would give an update!!! was doing well overall with lots of soreness and some actual pain. had trouble getting liquids for about three days but finally am doing a lot better. (did about 23-28 oz those three days sipping as much as i could… then have been increasing since) was burping with every single sip for three days. also had issues with gas pains that would randomly come on and feel like my sternum would rip in half. moving makes such a big difference !!! i Tuesday and wednesday i started to have a lot of pain/tugging and difficulty with my main incision … the bruising around it spread like deep healing bruises do and i think that was part of the issue. it also felt like a hard lump under the incision area there. i talked to my surgeon and said that was all normal and just keep at it as long as i didn’t get fever over 100 or it started getting red… this morning it feels a lot better, but still hurts… big victory for today is that i can sit and stand more comfortably than the last two days!!! i was finally able to “go” 5 days po.. no real problem but had the runs yesterday… i know, tmi but it’s what we go through zero real hunger and no real desire to even drink but doing it because I have to … i am only down 4.4 lbs so far (actually went up for the two days i was in acute pain this week) … but i am ok with that because my body is healing and know that is more important during this first healing stages… i am wary about going back to work next week part time. know i am going to be slow and really take it easy… i should be fine but know how doing nothing exhausts me lol (i am in bed before 830 every night… used to be 11 easy) hows everyone else in the early stages of post op????

honestly, i just ate more. i was sub 800 calories when i reached goal (127 lbs at 7 months post op) i was also exercising like a fiend...but i was doing the same level if exercise during the last couple months of weight loss phase, so not sure how much of an effect this was on my appearance, all other things being equal. im 4 years post now and average about 1900-2000 cals a day, exercise levels now just a fraction of it once was, and weighed 119.4 this morning. and i look x times healthier than i did at 127 over three years ago. so go figure. 🤷🏻♀️ edited to add: full disclosure... i had plastics to address lose body skin at 14 months post op, so that def helped! i also am currently addicted to botox...but this addiction formed well after i had already joined the land of the living, looks wise. 😂 i mean, im 50 yrs old. my less than firm face is more likely due to to age than wls. -
OMG, three ligaments - argh! Cringing at the very thought of how much pain you were in. Yeah, these sorts of injuries are the long-haul type. I tore the ACL off the bone in my OTHER knee in a skiing accident way back in 2002, so at least I'm already familiar with the very long process of soft-tissue damage never healing 100%. I did get a ligament reconstruction a year later. It's now going to be my "good knee" 🙃. I swear, it's like I just have it in for knee ligaments. Like they've personally offended me over the years.

I dont know what your dress code for your work is but I highly recommend you look at the three in one size pants options! I have a couple pairs of old navy ones. I got them on sale for around 25 dollars. I figured since they will fit size 14 16 and 18 I will get good use out of them! the black rockstar ones are not jean like material so I wear them as if they are skinny slacks for work. (I work in a bank) -

Ok, the last one looks like a big portion to me. I'd either have the salad or the burger/fries thing. What I sometimes do at restaurants when they have fancy desserts and appetizers that I order an appetizer and a dessert. Most people I go out to eat with wouldn't order a three course meal (though it depends on the restaurant's portions sizes of course) as most say it's too much in one sitting. It's different if it's a long evening and the course are quite a bit apart. -
I am 7 week post op. And consume 900-1000 cal. But my nutritionist said I was ok to go up to 1200 because I was feeling woozy or tired. I have not had any complications and am down 17 BLS. Did stall for three weeks but started to drop weight again this past few days again. Remember the calories you consume today compared to what you consumed in the past. For me it is about a third . So it is good. It is a marathon not a sprint. Wishing you good health on your weight loss journey.

Here is the walking tricycle I use for exercise. It's very stable and can be used by people with various disabilities. I got it because my weight and bum knee prevented me from walking or running. However, I love to run with the tricycle because it supports my weight and balance. I try to go at least one mile every day, but have gone as as far as three miles on it. Without it, I can walk only a few blocks. Notice that there are no pedals! One's feet are the locomotion and brakes. I do not recommend gravel! My friend and I usually ride on sidewalks, back roads, and parking lots. It folds in half and the wheels and seat can be popped off so it fits in the trunk of my car. My friend travels with hers, riding it in airports right up to the jet way where it is gate-checked just like a wheelchair. Check it out on Alinker.com. Alinkers tricycles cost about $2900 US, but the company has "rent-to-own" and crowdfunding programs.

I had the Loop DS (which is a little different) January 23 2020 (right before the Covid crap storm). From what I remember... I didn't poop a whole lot the first two or three weeks since I was on liquids and then puree and barely ate anything so from my own experience maybe your plane ride will be fairly normal. I did have overactive bowels once I hit stage 3, but hell, when I hit stage 4 I actually got constipation issues (and then learned it was because I was taking too much iron. Went from taking 3 multi's with iron to 2 and then finally down to 1 multi with iron. My family actually tends to hyper absorb iron and I forgot about that so... I actually don't need as much of it and still test in the normal range. Smack dab in the middle of normal at that). They probably won't warn you, but there is the rare chance it'll happen to you too so... 1. I vomited old blood after my surgery. It hurt like hell, but only happened 4 times so... not too bad, I guess. And, 2. Any surgery with malabsorption has a 3% chance of you developing either a wheat allergy or Celiac Disease (I got the wheat allergy). Also, when you do get put onto general diet try to avoid fatty foods because they will likely cause stomach issues (at least they did to me earlier on. And still kinda do that to me now). And if you wait too long to eat your stomach may decide to empty everything in your bowels (I can't be the only one who had this surgery that this happens to. Also, I'm not joking). It's incredibly annoying, but if I have constipation issues I know how to solve it lol. Problem is though that you will be in and out of the bathroom for a few HOURS because your stomach will not settle and my surgeon warned not to take imodium because it can cause bowel blockage and with this surgery you REALLY don't want that. So you'd be stuck at home. Best thing to avoid this is have something like a granola bar next to your bed so you can eat if your stomach wakes you up (mine does. but I'm stupid and ignore it sometimes because I'm tired and I pay for it later... bright side, if you can call it that lol, is that after the day spent in the bathroom you'll drop 2-4 pounds and no, I'm not joking. You really go that much. Or I do, at least. TMI, sorry). Also, regarding needing to be around a bathroom... not necessarily, but make sure you know where it IS. If you need to go then you will get a rumbling in your tummy and you will know when you need to rush to the bathroom. So make sure you do know where it is just in case. Also, the thing they say about never trusting a fart? Don't gamble because you might lose lol (I'd say 80% of the time it's an okay gamble, but the other 20% could be embarrassing if you were in public). Again, sorry for the TMI, but I figure it's info that you'd probably need to know. I'm happy with the surgery I chose, btw and have no regrets (other than wishing I hadn't had to take a med for my Trigeminal Neuralgia that made me gain 18 pounds back and even if I lost half of that since I switched meds I still can't lose the other 9 pounds for the life of me. But really that's not the surgery's fault, it's just my stupid ass TN that decided it was going to crap on my happy parade and send me into absolute agony and force me to take meds that make me gain weight... and yes, I'm still upset about it since the flare is still going on 7 months later and even if it's mostly under control now it's a progressive disorder and I REALLY don't want to have brain surgery AGAIN! Sorry. Rant over). Anyway, I wish you the best and hope everything goes well for you! -

Seitanmedaillons, Semmelknödel & Rotkraut. It matches the season. (Cleaning out the fridge, freezer and shelves again.) Usually a brown sauce belongs to this dish but I didn't have any so I did some fusion kitchen and used some hoisin sauce. I also had duck sauce available but after trying and not liking it I threw that one out. The medallions were made in the oven which made them a bit too dry but I was too lazy to pan fry. Not sure how I will dress up the four leftover ones. I also have three Knödel as leftovers. Maybe I'm simply opening a package of Rotkraut again, lol. -
You may not want to hear this but this may not be a stall. This may be your body’s set point (the weight your body is happiest at & is easiest to maintain) and/or you’ve reached a point where your food intake is equivalent to what your body needs (burns) to function. Not everyone gets to the goal they’ve chosen. The average weight loss after three years is about 60/65% of the weight you had to lose to put you in a healthy weight range. Have a chat with your dietician & review your eating plan & activity. Though if you decrease your calories & increase your activity to lose those last 10lbs you will have to maintain that to remain at the lower weight. Only you know if that is sustainable.

i am three days away from my 2 month gastric bypass post-op and oh boy has it been a journey! 9/7 - laparoscopic gastric bypass (general anesthesia; overnight in hospital) 9/15 - began vomiting and couldn't progress eating 10/4 - endoscopy (general anesthesia) 10/12 - laparoscopic surgery to revise scar tissue build up (general anesthesia; overnight in hospital) 10/17 - occasional vomiting again 10/27 - upper GI to look for strictures or blockages 11/1 - endoscopy #2; balloon used to open up stricture (general anesthesia) 11/2 - CT scan to make sure all is good to go as of today, it looks like i'm finally in the clear and should be able move my food progression forward to soft foods. -
Stalls are common and normal. It takes a while for your body to adjust and your set-point to change. Be diligent in weighing and measuring. Eye-balling quantities just does not work. Weighing, measuring, and recording keeps you honest. If you have not already done so, get some bariatric cookbooks or look up bariatric recipes online so that your meals are not boring and repetitive. You might try cutting out all high carb items such as bread and other things made with flour, white potatoes, rice, processed foods, and anything made with sugar. Avoid protein bars and processed "protein snacks"--they are CANDY to your body and will trigger you to eat more. In the almost two years since I started in the bariatric program I have encountered stalls frequently. The worst one lasted for over three months. My best advice is to stay off the scale, no matter how tempting it is. Check the scale just once a month. Contra-intuitively, sometimes it takes eating MORE for a few days to help reset your set-point. Measure yourself instead: neck, upper arm, bust, chest below bust, waist, hips, thighs. Record the measurements in an app or diary. You'll see losses even if the pounds are sticking. You'll also see your clothes fitting differently or need to replace them with smaller sizes. My second tip is to shop at thrift stores! I've gone down from size 30-32 (4x) to 18-20 (1-2x). Who can afford retail with that many size changes?!

Lucky you. It will be harder when you have no restriction. It's essential that you use this period to learn how to eat differently and continue to hold the line. I lost half of my weight-loss prior to surgery. Because of complications, after my RNY>RNY revision surgery I had three endoscopy procedures which stretched my pouch and anastomosis. After a few weeks I had very little physical restriction. I've had to work very hard to eat differently and continue to lose weight. My post surgical loss is now equal to what I lost prior to surgery, and I struggle every day with cravings. I need to keep my calorie count in the area of 1000-1200 per day. I eat almost no sugar, flour, white potatoes, rice, or processed foods. But--it's worked and I will continue to do this for life, recording every morsel in my (Baritastic). app I know that as soon as I start to return to old eating habits I will regain what I have lost. It's hard work, but so worth it. Hang in there!

Well I actually did a lot of research and it turns out it doesn’t matter when the dr checks your levels, if it’s over 200 you are diabetic whether you have eaten anything or not. It’s a random test and it’s listed on that CDC link you sent me spartanmaker. (And Thank you for that by the way it was very helpful). I did the test today and they said he was looking to see if it was over 140 though which would point to the possibility of pre diabetes but it wasn’t even close. It was 114 after eating worse than I have since my surgery so I’m definitely not diabetic. I also did my labs this morning which included three thyroid tests so maybe something will come of that. If not, I did ask him for a referral to an endocrinologist to make absolutely sure nothing has been missed. He said if my thyroid labs are good he would be inclined to agree with the surgeons that is my bipolar meds making me eat more but seeing an endocrinologist couldn’t hurt for my peace of mind. I have to admit when she gave me the very positive results that I am not diabetic I felt a little let down just for a second. Of course I don’t want a diabetes diagnosis but I AM very much desperate for an answer. Some answer. It’s just so darn frustrating. I just feel like such a failure that I went through with this huge invasive surgery and I am gaining it back. I think I am most annoyed with myself for not asking more questions and pursuing more tests BEFORE I did surgery. I guess what’s done is done though and I just gotta keep trying. I did lose two pounds before my big high calorie meal today. That’s something I guess. Lol

Relax you’re doing fine @MyDogsLoveMe. Twelve pounds in three weeks is a pretty darn good achievement. People who lose at a faster rate initially usually start at a much higher weight than you did. Plus we all lose at our own rate. Some weeks you may lose more the next may be less. As long as your general trend is downwards you’re doing great. Struggling to eat much more than your protein is the way it goes at least for another couple of weeks when you may be able to get in some vegetables. In your soft food stage, try adding a few vegetables & see how you go. I remember being able to eat a single green bean or a small spoon of steamed cabbage back then. I was able to throw a few vegetables (tomatoes, onion, celery, mushrooms) in soups & mince dishes & let them simmer away for ages so extra mushy. You’ll slowly be able to eat more & a greater variety of food. Remember you are still healing & are starting the retraining of how & what you eat. Oh, and I still take about an hour to eat a tub of yoghurt & I’m almost 3.5yrs out. I eat slowly & taking more than 30 minutes to eat anything is usual for me. -
It's been awhile for me, but I think by three or four months out the swelling was mostly gone (although my surgeon said it could take up to a year to see the final results). I didn't do any belly button training - in fact, it was never mentioned. Mine looks like a normal belly button now - has for a long time.

Oh wow! I don't even eat steak yet and I was cleared to eat whatever I wanted 2 weeks ago! Everyone has already talked about why you shouldn't have it yet, so I won't go in to that. I wanted to tell you that while I LOVED protein shakes before surgery, they were just fine for my pre-op prep. I HATED them after, it wasn't even the taste, my stomach started reacting poorly. Fortunately, I have access to Fairlife milk and Fairlife is easy on your tummy because its lactose free AND it has higher protein per serving than regular milk, its a great protein shake replacement if you are still in a mostly liquids stage and need to get your protein in! I was drinking three 8-10 oz glasses of Fairlife Lowfat milk a day, until just recently because I can now have protein bars and other solid forms of protein. The shakes or the milk are SUPER important to make sure your body gets enough protein until you are cleared for solid foods. When I was in the pureed stage my go-tos were refried beans with a little cheese and taco sauce on them (still eat that now!), cottage cheese, low fat/low sugar greek yogurt, Protein 2 O (its a protein water!), and Fairlife milk. Good job on your progress, take care of your new little tummy! -

I only take a multi with iron and two calcium citrate and my rx meds. I am able to take the rx meds with the multivitamin in the morning and I take the calcium at noon and three. I just set alarms. Some people like to use breakfast, lunch and dinner and/or bedtime. It really is dependent on how many doses you have to separate and what works best for you to remember. -

I had sleeve and I was told to take a bariatric multi with iron and two calcium citrate daily to start. They do blood work at the three month follow up and adjust from there if necessary. My labs were good at 3 and 6 month and one year. That seems to be working for me. I take the procare health multivitamin with 45mg iron. That and the bariatric advantage chewable were recommended by my team. I started with the chewable and I didn’t think it tasted bad (some people hate the chewables though) but it was more expensive and you had to take it twice a day so I switched to the capsule at about one month out and that’s been fine for me. I have it on auto ship which is convenient and it qualifies me for free shipping. I did keep my leftover chewables in case they ever didn’t arrive on time but a year and a half later that has never been an issue. The calcium citrate I take is just a normal vitamin from Amazon (just make sure it’s “citrate” though. The other one doesn’t absorb as well for us. -

Almost 3.5 yrs out & I still eat slowly, 30-45 mins, leaving a couple of minutes between bites. Sometimes I take longer depending upon what I’m eating & how I pace myself. Salads with lots of leaves, yoghurt & prawns can take 50-60mins. Gotta allow time for the message you’ve had enough to get through. In the beginning, because you’re eating so little you won’t take 30mins to eat a meal more like 20. I used a teaspoon & only dipped into what ever I was eating, never a spoonful. I also used a cocktail or buffet fork (spork) & again only used the tip. There are little things you can do to slow yourself down & take breaks between bites. Take a bite during the ad break, or play a game on your device, respond to someone on this forum or read a thread, read a couple of pages of a book, etc. Eating with others? Then take a bite in conversation breaks, put your cutlery down & sit back from the table between bites. You’ll work out what strategies work best to help you slow down your eating. Eggs can be a little rich & filling @Smoothiegal which is why some people struggle with them. I used to scramble two eggs which would take me three days to eat so only being able to eat half an egg at your stage isn’t that unusual. At 6-8 months I could barely eat one egg. I ate two scrambled eggs for the first time last month. -

that is exactly how I hope it goes for me … going to dl shows to my ipad in case the wifi isn’t great and hope for an uneventful night! I have a big unknown which scares me.. not my sister and mother being extremely ill after general anesthesia (nausea and vomiting) for two or three DAYS post op…. i have never been under except for the endoscopy and that is lighter sedation so don’t know how i will react.. i hope I take after my Dad for that lol he is a champ and shakes it off easy -
