I had my band to sleeve revision done on the 2nd. First thing I asked when I woke up was if it was successful since it was being done in one operation vs two. When I heard "yes", I was ecstatic. I'm happy and excited for you! I'm like on post day 7, I believe and well, it's been wonderful vs my first week with the band. That is awesome!! How's your recovery going?First day was a little rough, but after I got home that evening, it was smooth sailing. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App That's good. Thought I was waiting for approval - Dr wants to switch to bypass =(
KristenLe replied to bostonmama's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@bostonmama I'm wondering if this will happen to me as well - my GI study showed mild reflux. I have an appointment next week with the surgeon. Although - I've already been approved for the Sleeve so not sure how that would work. Anyway - if the surgeon recommends bypass - that's what I'm going to do. I also didn't want the malabsorption issues - but I'd rather not get Sleeve and have reflux so bad I need a revision. You need to take Vitamins with the Sleeve and the Bypass - so that shouldn't be an issue/concern. Before you panic - talk to your surgeon and see what they say. Good luck! -

Sleeve surgery but not in a hospital - dr Kim
Sai replied to TXhottie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
6 days post op of the outpatient band to sleeve revision. In at 7 am, walking by 11 am and out by 4 pm. Dr.Holden and team definitely knows what they are doing. ^^ Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App -
I am 6 days post a revision surgery (band to sleeve). Although it's normal to feel nervous, knowing that it doesn't really help get over that feeling. What helped me is, where it is new to you and me, these doctors have done zillions of sleeve surgeries. It's routine. It's mundane. It's ordinary. You'll be just fine. The post op isn't too bad either. Only hard day was the first for me. I was in at 7 am, out by 4 pm. in the same day. Excited for you! Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

Surgery Section for Patients with Multiple Surgeries

Hi Alex, I'm wondering if there is anything that can be done for someone in a case such as mine who has had two bariatric procedures done? I had my lap band in May 2013 and still was ~150 lbs lighter when I had my revision-to-gastric sleeve done 2 weeks ago on August 24th... it seems like I'm only able to merge the info together which either makes it look like I had the gastric sleeve done in 2013 OR that I lost 160+ lbs in 2 weeks while it's pretty funny it also makes my history appear very misleading. Thank you! -

Hi Pink Lantern i know your fustration well. i will be 4 months out september 24th.. i had my revision from band to sleeve on May 24th and after losing 25lbs (250 - 225) in about 2 and 1/2 months i have been stuck on 225 for the past 4 or so weeks too.. i agree and understand that the weight loss may be a little slower but i didn't think it would just STOP lol smh i just continue doing what i am suppose too i do notice the inches coming off though.. keep doing what you are doing it will eventually move. good luck ! -
Well I was banded in 2008, and my band did more harm than good, eventually I was converted in 2011 to a sleeve. I thought my acid reflux would go away but it has gotten worse and I know know have Barret's esophagus. If I would've listened I would've had the bypass done from the very beginning I never really did lose much weight with the band and only minimal with the sleep. I have been to many support groups and I've noticed that the band is useless and almost every single person that I've met in a group has had a revision to either a sleeve or bypass and those who've had the sleeve continue to have issues with the acid if not worse like me but for those who had the bypass could not be happier. I'm hoping to hear from my new surgeon to see if I will get the bypass and give me some relief from my terrible acid reflex. I wish you luck Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Which surgeons do you recommend in Tijuana, Mexico?
hbrhonda replied to shesticklish's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Dr Ariel Ortiz at Obesity Control Center is the BEST. He did my LapBand in 2006. He is a little higher priced than other Tijuana Drs but 1st class all the way. If you do research your will find him everywhere. The Doctors show, Oprah, Dateline, there was a write up in Newsweek naming him one of the top bariatric surgeons in the US. For my revision to sleeve in May 2016 I used Dr Fernando Garcia. Another first class experience but cost wise he was in my budget. I did a lot of research before using him too. I had zero complications and felt I was VERY well taken care of. His surgery center is new and state of the art. PM me if you need any other questions answered. -
I am close to 14 months post op RNY. I initially went into this dead set on the sleeve. I had just heard about it and had done a lot of research. I liked that my intestines wouldn't be rerouted and the unused portion of the stomach would be removed. The approval process for my insurance was lengthy, and during that prolonged period though, I began to have second thoughts. I was offered the choice of either procedure so the end decision would be entirely my own. Some of the reasons I had for the change of heart was that I was 54 at the time. I'd lost and gained weight my entire life. I really believed that this was my last chance to "get it right." My metabolism was already slower than someone younger. I'd learned (although it's not true in every case) that with the sleeve you might lose weight slower than with RNY. I wanted the weight off as fast as possible. I wanted to take as much advantage of the coveted "golden period" of rapid weight loss as I could. Now I know there are many sleevers who lost their weight just as fast or faster, but in my personal case the RNY seemed a better fit. I was coming across a lot of posts from people who had gotten the sleeve, but were later revised to the RNY due to GERD issues. That really scared me. If there was the slightest chance of needing a revision after the sleeve, I just wasn't willing to risk it. Again, there are a lot of sleevers who never encountered this issue. I liked the idea of the "possibility" of dumping as a fail safe to help keep me on the straight and narrow. I had a wicked sweet tooth. Of course there are many people who have never dumped after RNY, myself included, but I still use the possibility of it happening as an extra incentive. It works very well for me. I didn't know anyone who'd had the sleeve, but I knew two who'd had the RNY. One gained her weight back and the other didn't. Both had theirs years before me and it afforded me an up close and personal example of how much I would be personally responsible for my eventual success or failure. As much as it's "said" that WLS is only a tool, it's still hard to imagine yourself as a post op when you're a pre op. Watching them gave me that personal access. One kept to a healthy lifestyle and exercised. The other went back, almost immediately, to her bad habits. The former kept her weight off and the latter didn't. Which brings me to my final tilt from sleeve to RNY. Initially the idea of being able to eat anything I wanted only in smaller portions, was a big draw. But in the end I knew myself too well. I was a junk food addict, and even in smaller portions, a bad thing is still a bad thing. I chose to make a complete break from those bad choices, and felt that the RNY was the only way I could achieve it. There just wasn't enough research on the sleeve yet to satisfy me either. And let me stress again, that this decision was made for me only, my circumstances and my lifestyle. It is not meant to sully the sleeve in any way. Regrets - not a single one! I'm nearly 14 months out, and reached my goal of 130 back in April. I've never been happier or fitter in my life, and have been maintaining easily. I still track my weight and exercise daily, forever reminding myself that I could easily gain it back if I start to slack. It's a powerful motivator. I did completely rid myself of bad habits. Since surgery I no longer drink soda, or eat fast food. Aside from the occasional Protein drink, I only drink Water. I don't eat bread, rice, Pasta, and red meat. I don't add salt to anything. My cravings are pretty much non existent. I'm 55 and feel like I'm in my 20's! I would do this again in a New York minute! Best decision I ever made! Best of luck to you on your journey, wherever it takes you. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Dr. Roshek is doing my band to sleeve revision, probably in Oct. I researched him and the Nicholson Clinic and they have a good reputation, plus Dr. Roshek removed my daughter's gall bladder 2 years ago and was awesome and so nice. I've had my 1st consultation with him and am happy with my choice. Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App

Just converted my Sleeve to the SADI-S and have millions of questions....
wlssuccess replied to wlssuccess's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I'm feeling I on all the stuff u notes girl. I've been pretty lucky so far with the weight loss, but last time my body also responded really well to the surgery. It's of course coming off slower than last time, but a million times faster than when I kept trying and failing over and over again to lose the damn regain on my own. I'll be 1 month out in 3 days and I've dropped 17 pounds....very happy with that. A contributing factor might have been that I was back on soft solids after 1 week, not my doctors advice, but I knew my tummy hadn't changed, I just needed to be careful with my intestines. I can't begin to express again how much ur feedback and experiences are appreciated. I've had literally no one to talk to who had this revision with no change to their tummy so I've had to make everything up as I've gone along. So u taking the time to share ur experience with me is literally invaluable. Oh, I've been vlogg in my entire journey since 2010 on YouTube (cecelialane) ...check it out so we can "meet" and email me anytime at cecelia@wlssuccesswithcecelialane.com. I'm also on IG, ooVoo, Facebook (Cecelia Brown Lane) and Messenger So happy things are improving for u too. Now I'm pootying primarily just in the mornings, albeit about 6 times. Buta till, it's a relief. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

According to http://www.dartmouth-hitchcock.org/bariatric/risks_of_bariatric_surgery.html Intestinal obstruction (blockage) In some cases, scar tissue or inflammation can narrow the new connection between the stomach and intestine. This is called a stricture. Strictures usually develop four to six weeks after surgery, and affect less than five percent of bariatric surgery patients. Patients with strictures will notice that they are progressively less able to take in fluids and food. Strictures can be treated with an endoscope, which is a thin, flexible tube with image sensors and special tools at the tip. A doctor will use an endoscope with a tiny inflatable balloon at its tip to open the stricture. An ulcer may narrow the outlet of the pouch as it heals after surgery. The ulcer can obstruct the passage of food, or cause bleeding. Such bleeding is usually controlled by medications. To prevent ulcers, patients must take an acid-blocker (like Pepcid) for two months after surgery. If you are already on an acid-blocker, such as Prilosec, Nexium or Prevacid, you can continue this medication. In addition, all patients must avoid aspirin (unless you take aspirin for your heart or to prevent a stroke) and other medications that increase the risk of bleeding (such as ibuprofen, Advil) for two months after surgery. Only in unusual cases is surgery needed to revise the stomach-intestine connection. After any abdominal surgery, internal scars (adhesions) form in the abdomen. In rare cases, the lower intestine (bowel) can become twisted around an adhesion and cause an obstruction. This keeps digested food from passing through the body. An obstruction can happen at any time, even years after bariatric surgery. Because the obstruction must be repaired before the intestine loses its blood supply, an emergency operation may be necessary.

Sleeve to bypass revision
1Day1Life4Now replied to justhere4theshow's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am also having a revision to RNY and my tentative date is Oct 10th. I had the sleeve done in February of 2014 but have suffered with severe reflux ever since. I am so nervous about this. Do you know anyone else who has had this done already? I'm anxious about what to expect. -
I had a band to sleeve revision and I have 5 incisions. I am two weeks post op and one is still pretty sore. Doc says its normal because that was the deepest incision he had to make. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Gastric Sleeve to RNY Bypass Revision ...Anyone had this yet?
StartingOverAfterCancer2 replied to 1Day1Life4Now's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am in the same boat. I had the sleeve in November 2010. I lost 83 pounds in 7 months but then I got pregnant (after YEARS of infertility and at 40 years old!). During my pregnancy I discovered that I had breast cancer so I went throug surgeries and chemo. Now that I am a breast cancer survivor, I now have Barrett's esophagus (pre-cancer) and my acid reflux is OFF THE CHARTS HORRENDOUS!! I am in the process of trying to get a revision to roux n y because of the acid. I am also nervous and not looking forward to doing the liquid diet and starting all over with everything but I'm terrified of getting cancer again! I'm in Baltimore, MARYLAND. -
