  1. I do love me some meal prep! Things I’ve learned- individual Greek yogurts while more expensive are easier for “no spoon” days. I usually add homemade granola or a 100 calorie pack of nuts and fruit for a quick protein packed meal. cooking a protein bland for the first cook makes customized meals easier later. A beef roast in beef broth can later be made into shredded beef for tacos, BBQ beef, or korean beef bowls. I love soup! I’ll usually make a batch on my meal prep days and either put it in the fridge or freeze it. Scrambled eggs (so they’re still glossy and not rubbery- most people overcook scrambled eggs) are great to put into meal prep containers with a couple sausage links or patties and microwaved later in the week. Hard boiled eggs are another great option. Just peel and store in the fridge for up to a week. They’re good as egg salad or on salads. Use a lettuce knife- it’s a special knife made of nylon with serrated edges that cuts lettuce so it doesn’t oxidize. This keeps lettuce longer over the week after you prep it so it doesn’t get brown and yucky.

Wow, we have a stunning woman in our forum. Well done on your journey so far. Try a little boiled egg mashed with mayo. Try and find some protein yogurt you like, try it with mashed strawberry or other berry fruit. It helps the bowels. I had to resort to tinned soups with the bigger bits squashed with a fork. Many have mashed potato and gravy but it wasn't for me. Hummus is good especially if you can eat it with mashed avocado. I was allowed crispy melba toast as it melted in the mouth. You can always go back a stage if you are struggling, its your journey, just keep up your protein quota
  4. I seriously doubt they will say anything about your gain unless they specifically told you not to gain? Our weights fluctuate and they know that. My pre op diet wasn’t bad. I was allowed 2 shakes and then a lean protein low carb dinner (meat and veggies). Plus we had free foods like jello and pickles we could have if we just had to eat something. If I remember correctly we could chose between shakes and yogurt. And we were allowed to have broth. I didn’t love it but I wasn’t starving at all. Even if your is more strict because of your liver you just gotta keep your eye on the prize. I know I could do anything for a week or two in order to change my life for the better. And during that diet, if it gets a little touch check out the thread called “weirdest non scale victories” and see some of the changes you have to look forward to post surgery. Also, whenever you want to eat, hop on here and get talking. We are here to help you through it.

I did hummus and avocado spread. Just a spoonful of each. Maybe even try some sugar free pudding or greek yogurt. Definitely start off slow and go from there.

I can actually have pudding, oatmeal, cottage cheese and yogurt in my full liquid stage. I think my doctor is very different than most considering I didn’t have to do a liquid diet pre-op either.

Stand still for 3-4 months now

Also forgot to add that I am trying to stop snacking. I have a cheese stick here, protein chips, yogurt, fruit, cottage cheese. My guilt has been Teddy Grahams and Ritz baked and thin chips. I know this is bad and is probably the cause of my long long stall. I do see inches coming off however.

As you found out, I'm on purees. 200 cals from protein powder alone (50g). Then cream of wheat, soup, yogurt, pudding, peanut butter powder and food boredom making up the rest.

i try to stay away from olive oil because of the calories but I will have to try the cold sauce another day. I am out of yogurt and don’t like Mayo. But it sounds good, thanks. I did find a recipe online that sorta jazzes up the fake butter I may try for tonight since I have the ingredients.

You could try a mixture of olive oil, lemon, and garlic with fresh cracked black pepper. When you go to eat it cold try a mixture of low-fat Mayo (or yogurt), lemon, salt and a dash of hot sauce. It’s the sauce they use for cold lobster rolls. I’m kind of a snob though when it comes to fats and the only time I willfully eat margarine is in my mom’s no bake cookies.
  11. I agree that it’s not really self sabotage unless you actually intended to harm or sabotage yourself. Don’t beat yourself up, Just try to learn from your mistake and do better today. Have you tried searching for a sugar free or no sugar added alternative? I have found Many sugar free or no sugar added options out there that honestly don’t taste bad. I had sleeve so I don’t have issues with sugar, but I found Yasso Greek yogurt bars that are only 100 calories and satisfy my sweet cravings. They do have some sugar 13g total and 9g added sugars? I am pretty sure that’s quite a bit LESS than regular ice cream though. I don’t have any ice cream to compare it to. Okay I just searched Walmart real quick and it is less than regular ice cream but Klondike makes no sugar added desert bars that have even less. 6g of sugar per bar (11g of sugar alcohol. I’m not sure how that plays into it). Also, Bryers makes no sugar added with 5g sugar and 10g sugar alcohol (salted caramel flavor). I personally like the idea of the bars cause it’s already portioned out for us. Most but Not all products have the nutrition info online so a little research and hopefully you can find an option that will work for you. If you live near a Publix I have found that they tend to carry a wider variety and have more of the healthier options (compared to walmart). Trader Joe’s and Aldi are supposed to be good for healthy options too but I don’t have either of those I am, of course, not advocating that you eat ice cream this early out but i will admit that I tried a few treats just to see if I could eat them once I got to regular food such as chocolate, pizza and pasta. For me it was a mindset thing. Once I knew I could tolerate them in small amounts and eventually have them later it was that much easier to do without them until maintenance. Everyone is different though. All we can do is what we think is best for us. I hope this helps
  12. Has anyone tried one of these? I’m thinking of using it for salad dressing but wonder if the creamy ones would be too thick?? It has the tablespoon measurements on it which would be great to measure out a serving if it works. I found them on Amazon. They are made for oil and vinegar but I want to use it for my yogurt ranch. I may get one just for thanksgiving day though cause my husband uses olive oil for the Turkey and I want him to see just how much he uses. Transitioning from shakes to food

I was advised to slowly decrease the Shakes as I was able to eat larger portions. If you can only eat an ounce of chicken you aren’t going to be able to get enough protein from food. Well technically if you also eat a bunch of yogurt you can but you get my point. I am over a year out and still have a shake for breakfast everyday but that’s more for convenience and cause I like the taste of it (the caffe latte by premiere protein) many people get off them alltogether. But my advice would be to calculate your protein (not counting the shakes and yogurt) for a week or so and see if you consistently get to 30 or 60 or something like that and drop a shake as you can or just calculate for each day if you eat a lot of variety and have a shake or yogurt as a late snack if you need it.
  14. Question??? How did you transition from mostly using shakes to getting your protein from food sources? I started really tracking what I am eating due to my 3 week stall. I'm noticing that due to my milk allergy that most of the shakes and yogurts I eat are a bit higher in carbs and calories than I would like and noticed I am more reliant on the shakes than food to get my protein in. How hard was the transition? Should I gradually start eliminating the shakes? Thanks for any info you could share.
  15. It really depends on where you're going to be traveling. In the US? You can probably stop at a Walgreens/CVS/Grocery store and buy some Fairlife Core Power drinks. Hummus and cheese from a grocery store if your hotel has a fridge or you're staying at someone's house. Refried beans from a Mexican restaurant. Flaky fish. Chili (no raw onions on top!). Low sugar Greek yogurt. I traveled for work most weeks starting at 5 weeks out from surgery. It can get boring and repetitive, but by six weeks out you're probably eating real food, just very little of it. Stay away from chicken breast and steak. Ground meet and flaky fish are your friends. Tofu would be good too. Don't try to be perfect in terms of avoiding sugar/fat in sauces; just make the best practical choices. I did a lot of butter and cheese sauces.

Eating too much? 3 - 4 weeks Post op

Me personally, I don't feel it's too much perse. How many calories were you eating prior to surgery? You should only be able to eat 2-4 ounces at one sitting but I was able to eat an entire container (5.3oz) of Greek yogurt. [emoji2368] Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app
  18. I Am Enough!

    August Surgery Buddies!

I was originally considering the sleeve, but my surgeon was concerned about the reflux so we opted for the bypass. I'm so sorry to hear you have to go in for a revision, but I sure hope it brings you some relief. I have a standard two week liquid pre-op diet, nothing special. But I'm modifying my Keto Chow protein to use almond milk instead of heavy cream during that time. Last night I made fluff for the very first time using the SF jello and greek yogurt - it was very good. So experimenting with recipes to see what I like/don't like cause I know I might too tired or need a family member to help
  19. I am in Spain at the moment and am having a difficult time finding foods to eat in the hotel restaurant. The eggs are so hard boiled or over cooked scrambled that I cant digest them. The soup is shocking and has no body. The meat is so tough, I am living off milk and yogurt and am really weak at the moment. I hope you are going to a better hotel than this. Take some foods or protein supplements with you just in case. I never realised it would be so difficult for me
  20. I'm trying more tea and that helps. And eating Greek yogurt...the oikos high protein ones too

    Food Before and After Photos

Everyone posting their restaurant meals and all I can think is “I could make SO many meals for that price!” Anyway, this was dinner- homemade skin on mashed potatoes and a burger with mustard and Mayo and waaayyy too sweet pickles. No calorie tracking today but ate it all. That was before I prepped 7 meals for my kids for the next 3 days. I find it easier to meal prep for them so they aren’t constantly snacking or wondering what to eat over school breaks. yogurt parfaits with berries and homemade cranberry pecan granola egg and veggie sausage mini bagels with berries Korean beef bowls (veggie chicken nuggets for the vegetarian) with brown rice pasta salad with pepperoni and salami (hard boiled egg for the vegetarian) and berries cheese tortellini in homemade tomato sauce pasta salad with roasted chicken thighs (hard boiled eggs for the vegetarian) and leftover burgers with mashed potatoes and peaches.

    Struggling hard 3 weeks out

Ok, Breathe. Its happened to lots of us and we survived to tell the tale and help others. If you have tried all the shakes and hate them all, try letting them down with milk. Try milk and protein yogurt mixed thin. Try protein water. If all that fails try milk with dried milk powder added to it to boost the protein count. Try warm drinks. Leave the food a couple of days while you up your liquid count. Your Doc has no right being mad at you because you are trying your best. Its your teams job to help you recover, make them help you
  23. I know it's early, only 3 weeks after my bypass. But it's just been one struggle after another. I was increasing my ability to eat and drink for a little while, but I seem to be going backwards now. I can barely force myself to consume maybe 25oz of liquid and 4 bites of food a day. But I can't stand any of the protein I've tried. I found one shake that's okay but I can only tolerate about half of it and not every day. If I have a shake or half a yogurt, I can't eat for the rest of the day at all. I feel sick all the time. Nauseous, dizzy, lightheaded, weak. I use a transdermal multivitamin patch approved by my surgeon. I'm having big regrets. I know it will probably get better later but I feel like it won't ever get better if I'm only consuming water and a couple bites of food (usually yogurt, well chewed soft meat, or sugar free ice cream). I have my 1 month follow up next week. Doc is already mad I'm haven't found a way to meet my protein goals. I'm trying so hard it but it's so uncomfortable to eat drink, even water. I haven't been vomiting so I don't think there's any real problems but I can't survive like this.

Am I doing this right am I broken?

You won't be on liquids forever so your mindset will definitely change. Even adding soups and yogurt helped me SO much. But if you're feeling faint regularly and having trouble getting your protein, I'd make sure to tell your doctor and/or nutritionist. One thing I've seen here is there are many, many post-op diets, and they may be able to ease up some of the restrictions to help you feel better and meet your requirements.
  25. I don't have an exact date yet but my surgery team planning end of Sept. I started my journey in April and have been working hard to get rid of some of my old habits. Drinking diet coke was the hardest, but now soda free. I can't just drink water so I've been drinking crystal light. Breakfast was also I've not really done. Now, I'm faithful every morning even it's just a greek yogurt. Also , throwing the straw away was tough but I keep thinking of how much better things will be. I've been journaling as a request from my dietitian and it had been a good tool for me to see what I need to watch. I've lost 19lbs in a few months which I'm grateful for.
