  1. Often people (regardless of gender) who don’t ask for help won’t be open to unsolicited advice, however well-meaning it is provided. Ongoing unsolicited advice, especially when all previous advice has already been ignored, can be construed as “nagging”. Which is unpleasant for everyone involved. You have voiced your loving concern. He has chosen to do his own thing. If he was a child or some other type of dependent, one could make a case to further persist and/or intervene. But he is a grown man and can make decisions on his own. Yes, he *may* have undesirable effects from his choices (but so far so good, though, I understand?). And his outcome, however good or bad will be his, and his alone. Sometimes the best way learn something is to learn it yourself. And this is not to say that he is destined to hurt himself. Maybe the lesson to be learned is that what he’s doing is fine for HIS body. And then again, maybe its not. Only he (and his body) can say. That said, i agree that bacon and eggs at 2 weeks post op is not part of the food transition plan than even i was given. But he seemed to have tolerated it well and he would not be the first person i’ve heard/read who did not follow the plan and came out unscathed (health-wise, at least…) Good Luck! ❤️
  2. I hit the three-week stall at 2 weeks. Mainly because my body was taking Water back in after being dehydrated and recovering. I hit 3 weeks yesterday and the scale is going down again. I started weighing myself every day, but I am learning to let go and not do that every day. I think I am going to weight once or twice a week at specific times of day. I went crazy worried that this wasn't going to work, but it is and I am so glad I had the surgery.

    Oh girl, I'm right there with you. It's a total mind f*ck. I tell myself I won't weigh. Then I weigh. I hit the dreaded 3 week stall and am frustrated. I'm about to put my scale in a closet in another room to take away the fact that it's staring at me in the bathroom every morning. I think we are just so anxious to be further along in the journey, with the results to show for it. For me - I also think there is a bit of amazement that it is working and fear when the scale doesn't move that maybe it's NOT working. I just need to chill, trust the process and focus on what I can control. Water, protein, vitamins and nutrition in general, and movement.

    I weigh myself every day and the scale has not really moved in the last 4 days. So I might be in the dreaded 3 week stall. I think that you can gain weight even with the low calories but I don't think its fat, I think its water weight or constipation. Eventually your body will get the clue and let go and you will see the scale move. I would call your dietitians though and let them look over your food log and see if they have any suggestions. My dietitians said usually the stalls are caused by either not enough calories, low protein or not taking vitamins. But I would talk to your team and see what they think. It should at least help your anxiety and give you some input from the experts. Good luck!

    Hey Bluehogg, I was 417 when i started, currently at 278. I walk 3.5 miles every other day, and ride stationary bike 9 miles twice a week. You will do great!

    i weigh daily. for now at least. i wanted to be able to analyze the data and see trends especially as it relates to stalls. i’m in a stall right now and even “gained” a pound yesterday. i just try not to obsess about the daily bc it’s an overall downward trend when i look at the weekly. i’ll probably stop weighing daily once i get to a month

    Pre-op Diet Gut Rot?

    Hello! I'm on the 2-week liver shrink right now, 1 week in. I'm experiencing what feels like indigestion, maybe sour stomach or heartburn. It's very mild, but definitely there. Anyone else feeling this? This isn't my first rodeo with the liquid diet, but I don't remember this issue from before.

    Weighing daily would drive me nuts! I do once a week right now, but was already thinking I may go to once a month.
  9. I weighed myself everyday but I only logged it once a week. That way when I looked back at my log it was a more obvious downward trend. Something about not logging it helped but if the fluctuations still get to you, consider only getting on the scale once a week.
  10. So it has been a week since my mini bypass and I feel.... great! The first three days were HARD. I was so confident about my pain tolerance and how good I would feel after surgery, so it was a huge shock. The gas pain was no joke, although I think the worst part was just how icky the various drugs for anesthesia made me feel. I was able to manage my pain with regular tylenol the whole time, it was just this constant I Don't Feel Good sensation that wore me down. Last night I was able to sleep on my stomach again, and I'm finally feeling hunger, which I am actually thrilled about, because I had such strong aversions to anything but water in the beginning that I was dreading having to eat. I am still noticeably more tired than usual, but I think once I am consistently hitting my protein goals, I will be just fine. Last day of liquids!
  11. I had put on weight with menopause pushing me from 75kgs (always my highest bounce back weight) to 91kg very quickly. Could not shift it at all and after three years I woke one morning & said that’s it. Enough! Rang my GP straight away for an appointment to get a referral to a surgeon & not quite 6 weeks later I had my surgery. Had a friend who had surgery a good year before, but it wasn’t really on my mind until that morning. I didn’t have any comorbidities (except for my feet which would get sore from carrying my weight if I stood for a couple of hours or wore heels). I knew it was likely they were ahead of me though.

    You may want to spend a least a few weeks tracking exactly what you're eating. Most people find they eat a lot more than they think.

    Puréed Phase Recipes

    I roasted broccoli, cauliflower, onion, carrots, bit of salt and olive oil. Roasted for about 45 min at 375. In a big pot I added water and a box liquid no salt beef broth, some low salt soya sauce and the roasted veggies. Simmered for 2 hours and cooled. The ran it through blender and was done. Roasted broccoli and cauliflower creamy soup. Separated into portions and froze 1/2 for later on. Could always add more water or broth to thin out if too think. Next week I'm going to try with asparagus and mushrooms.

    Oh bummer. I haven’t brushed my hair in a few years. it’s short and curly. So I’m not sure if I’m going to notice. it’s been 5 1/2 weeks now and I can finally transition to sloppy/purée foods. yay for me.

    Omigosh that actually makes me feel so much better - my doc didn't have me lose prior so I expected big numbers in the first few weeks. Thank you so much really appreciate it.
  16. Nothing has really changed. I eat the same things, but I can consume more now. I wasn't exercising then (I walk at least 3 miles a day, and that hasn't changed), and I've never been one to count calories. I just keep track of my protein and carbs.

    October 2022 surgery support

    Of course last night I got my period, a week early, thinking it was all the stress. Sorry if that's TMI just worried about it, im sure the nurses will have delt with it before but it's still a little weird for me.
  20. I weighed 393 at my highest. I always wanted to get under 200. I was there as a teenager and young adult, when I weighed around 160. I had hoped to get down to 160 or 170, but knew I'd be happy to get to 199. I got down to 187 in July, and I'm in maintenance now, 2 years and almost 3 months post op. I have gained a few pounds and I'm at 193 right now. I'm very happy at this weight, even though it's not a "normal" weight for my height. I wear a size 12 or 14, and I'm very happy with that!   21. I don't know how many of you are in your third week, but I am concerned about my calories. My doctor has us do 3 meals and 3 snacks. Shooting for 60 grams of protein and 64 oz of water. I have no problem with the protein. I make a lot of keto soups and blend them down. I am concerned in the calories. I was hovering around 5-600 calories. Today if I eat everything, I wrote I should end up around 800. I couldn't believe it. I have not had any issues with food until yesterday. I am in my soft food stage and yesterday I had a few of Russel's sugar free chocolate. My TOM started yesterday, and I think I was just craving. That did not sit well at all. So, no more off that. Where are you all at in terms of calories?

    October 2022 surgery support

    October 10th for me. I'm on day 7 of my two-week liquid diet on Tuesday. I'm so excited . . . but also nervous.
  23. Just had my revision 4 weeks ago! My liquid diet was protien shakes, broths, low sugar yogurt, low fat cottage cheese, sugar free jello, and sugar free popsicles. Oh, and any sugar free drinks (non-carbonated) and tea. I had a sleeve 7 years ago and gained all my weight back as well. I decided to do gastric bypass because I knew I needed more permanent help if I wanted to truly get healthy. I was arrogant and not in the right frame of mind when I got my sleeve so I sabotaged myself. This time, I was 100% ready and its been soooo much better and the will power to want to do better seems almost natural now. Having said that, when I did my liquid diet before surgery, I dropped weight so fast! 12 lbs in 1 week and was down 21 lbs by the time my surgery rolled around (3.5 weeks). So, doing the liquid diet again definitely re-starts your sleeve but it will be up to you to keep up the diet after, which for me is the hard part. Good luck, whatever you decide to do!
  24. I've read before you can restart your sleeve by going back on a liquid diet for 5 days. I had a sleeve 7 years ago and just updated to a bypass 4 weeks ago an I can tell you when I had to do my liquid diet again, I dropped weight FAST. Like 12lbs in a week! Almost to the point where I questioned if I even wanted to have another surgery. In the end it was better for me to have it, but maybe that might help you.
  25. I kept calling my surgeons office last week for updates and they continued to give me the same excuse that my case is still "pending"... BUT after calling Blue Cross on Friday they explained that my surgeons office had to resubmit my case because they didn't add the codes for surgery the first time!!!! This made me so upset because no one at the office bothered to inform me of that. I reached back out to the office and the coordinator said she is requesting BCBS mark my case as urgent now. We're down to the wire (surgery is in 8 days!) And I could use all the well wishes and fingers crossed that I get approved on time 😔
