I am seeking advise on mentally and physically preparing for surgery. Iโm about 5-6 weeks away from revising from a sleeve to a LOOP DS and feel that last time going in I was mentally prepared I was losing weight and in control. This time for insurance purposes I havenโt lost weight and while I havenโt been binge eating I canโt seem to do the 2 shakes a day light dinner thing Iโve been trying to do (my idea not my doctors suggestion). I want to give myself the best chance at losing the 55-60. I go between thinking Iโm ok the surgery is going to help me dont panic if you eat 1800 cals a day to you must only drink protein shakes and eat under 1000 or you wonโt be successful. I do have a therapist and I am truly trying to figure out my head. Any advise would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Anyone using a bullet journal to track their progress?
biginjapan posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had a sleeve done three years ago and will be going in for a revision to bypass in March. I really want to do more to keep myself on track, and thought about having a dedicated bullet journal just for this - goals, trackers, etc. Of course, I already use apps to track food and macros, water, step count, etc, but they are in different places and, having just started bullet journaling for another part of my life, Iโve realized how much I miss actually writing things down and having more space to write about high points and low points, as well as a place to keep photos, etc of my journey. Iโve done some research online but most bullet journals just have a one page spread for the month tracking exercise or water or whatever, there are very few ideas out there about setting up a journal for those of us going through bariatric surgery (pre- and post-op diets, liquid/purรฉe/soft food stages, etc). Just curious if anyone out there has set up a journal for themselves and are willing to share the kind of spreads they made. Iโm currently sketching out a few ideas and will share as soon as I can make them somewhat decent. -
Rapid weight gain following Gastric Bypass 10 months ago
elcee replied to yesno789's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
You say you have to eat sweet and sugary food! Really, why? The thing to realise here is that surgery is only a tool. It doesnโt choose what you put in your mouth and doesnโt make unhealthy choices. You do. You buy the food and you eat it, not your sleeve and not your bypass. The only person that can make this work or not is you. You need to remember why you had these surgeries , what you hoped to achieve and refocus. Go back to basics. Use a small plate, eat protein first then healthy veg. No grazing. If you want something sweet have a small piece of fruit or yogurt with stevia and cinnamon or a cracker with low sugar jam etc. Track your food, including any sweets. Go and see a psychologist, get help. But above all refocus, take responsibility and take charge. You can do this -
Nausea vomiting one year out
Losingit2018 replied to roselover50's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This is gerd and is quite common with the sleeve. I too would wake up with acid flowing from my nose and mouth. It was horrible. Best option is to revise to a bypass. you need to see a surgeon. They may put you on a ppi but those are not safe long term. Gerd can lead to much worse things like cancer. Please see a Dr ASAP. -

Ummm KFC pasta soft drink and you wonder why you're gaining weight???? Icecream... Why even ask a stupid question is not the bypass its your bad choices.... You know what you're doing wrong even if you can eat a plate how about a plate of fresh veggies or tuna salad or make your own chicken breast; there's plenty of healthy options.. -
Rapid weight gain following Gastric Bypass 10 months ago
yesno789 posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi all, I am a 30 year old male. I previously had a gastric sleeve surgery 5 years agobut due to the massive regain of weight, I had a revision gastric bypass in February 2019. Anyways, since my lowest recorded weight and initial weight loss success in June 2019, I have since gained 7kg to date and feel like I gaining 1-2kg a week. Specifically, I have regained 6 kg since early Dec 2019 to date. Over the past 3 weeks, I have regained at least a 1kg a week. I feel like I can eat just as much, if not more, then my first gastric sleeve surgery 5 years ago. I know that the bypass is a tool only, but I am shocked in the amount I can eat and want to eat. I can easily eat a plate of pasta or a whole wrap with chips from KFC (I know I should be eating healthy and not these type of foods, but it is easier said than done!). On a normal day, I drink at least 5 cans of sugar free coke zero and at least a box of paddlepop icecream. I'm super addicted to sweet and sugary food and I know this is the issue. My issue is I pretty much have to eat sweet sugary food. Luckily and thankfully, I am not diabetic (not that I know of anyways!) I've read stories of people who were much bigger than me who initially had the surgery who now eat a few bites and get full and they don't really ever feel like icecream and other sugary food. Yet I am always hungry and even after I eat food, I still crave sugary food. My old workmate who had the gastric sleeve never used to eat! They were never hungry or craved anything, yet I am completely the opposite. Anyways, my question is can anyone on here following their gastric bypass surgery still eat a plate of food or even close to? I just can't comprehend how following 2 surgeries without any complications (thankfully ) I still am able to eat so much food. Look forward to hearing from anyone. -
I do believe the pouch can be stretched. If anyone watched that recent episode of this new season of My 600 Lb. Life, there was one woman that had the sleeve, only made it to 300 lbs and was on the show again to get a revision, because she ate her way back up to 600 plus pounds. When he did the revision, he said the first sleeve procedure she had was completely undone. And her revision was hard because she had tons of scar tissue. We totally can undo what we've done. That fact always frightens me and makes me remember to measure my portions, whenever possible.

For those who have lost 100+ pounds

I should say I got the sleeve, not bypass. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I had a big weight gain. I was eating things I shouldn't because my home situation changed. After the 70 lb weight gain. I moved out of the situation I was in. I have lost close to 40 lbs. It took years and I am still trying to get back to my previous weight. Hopefully I will lose 50 Lbs more. To get to a more sensible weight. I had RNY and tried a revision surgery to SADI. It doesn't seem to be doing much good. Maybe I am eating too many calories. I was eating between 1500 to 1200. Now I am eating 1000 to 1200. My doctor wants me to go lower than 1000. I am not sure how you do that without relying on protein drinks. Which he told me not to do. I lost 17 lbs since the surgery 12/4. Most of that was during the preop diet and the initial post surgical time. Any suggestions about this situation are welcome.

* 7 LBS AWAY FROM HEALTHY BMI *
New&Improved posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WOW I CAN'T BELIEVE HOW FAR I'VE COME. I started my diet journey 5 months ago today. at my heaviest in the surgeons office I weighed in at 322lbs. I was admitted to hospital for surgery 256lbs now I'm 3 months post op and feeling great. JUST hit 190lbs this morning and also realised I'm just 7lbs away from the top end of a healthy BMI. I'm doing so well I might even get down to 180lbs yet and that feels amazing. I've been doing a lot of fasting and that has really helped. I've also got my new rowing machine and started using it tonight; it is hard work that's for sure ๐ officially lost 132lbs now ๐ I still say RNY BYPASS was the best choice I've ever made and to anyone else looking at bypass don't stress too much I've not had one issue or complication so far!! THANKS. MIKE. -
Forced to do Bypass
AZhiker replied to Christina.Rose's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
If it's any consolation, gastric bypass surgery has been around for a long time, with a lot of success. You will always find someone with a complication - to either surgery, actually. If reflux and the possibility of Barretts/cancer is an issue, please don't be afraid to take the GB plunge. There are advantages and disadvantages to both surgeries. The sleeve is not a "minor" surgery, nor is it without risk or complications. If you choose to go ahead with GB, you need to reframe your thinking to a positive mindset, focusing on all the advantages GB will give you, most importantly the decreased risk of esophageal cancer. -

Sleeve revision to RNY or Bypass reason
Christina.Rose replied to AchieveGoals's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I can only tell you what I am experiencing. I had the lapband......may a thousand curses befall that BS..... Then I got the sleeve. I kinda loved it. I lost 70+ lbs. But now, 2 years in, I have horrific acid reflux. My surgeon said I was maybe 6mo out for cancer. Precipitated by Barrett's esophagus. Now I am sadly submitting to a gastric bypass. I never wanted it. I still don't. But, hey, it beats cancer! Im unhappy, but I am the reason my stomach has been eviscerated. Sent from my moto e5 supra using BariatricPal mobile app -

Forced to do Bypass
Christina.Rose replied to Christina.Rose's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Barrett's esophagus is what my doctor said would likely happen without intervention! And then, of course, cancer....I really hoped I could hang on to my tiny banana stomach. But, here I am. Not happy. Afraid of all of the reasons I never wanted a bypass. However, my doctor, Monali Misra, is such a wonderful person. I truly trust her with my life. If she says she's not comfortable with revising my sleeve, I am confident. I have to make alot of changes. Sent from my moto e5 supra using BariatricPal mobile app -

Has anyone had a gastric sleeve revision?
carlacv replied to OutbackJo's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had the gastric sleeve 3 years ago and then I started having acid reflux. Told my surgeon about it he did two tests an endoscopy and barium test. Turned out I had a hiatal hernia. So in order to fix it I have to have surgery and while They fix it gonna have gastric bypass so it wonโt returned -
Just saying hello.
Tamarita replied to fiddlinjellybean's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm at about the same point except I was approved before I met with my surgeon. My last pre-op appointment is scheduled for 11 February, then I'll be scheduled for surgery. I elected the gastric bypass. I agree, the sleeve seems less scary to me also but I'm afraid my reflux would be an issue. Good luck! -

Forced to do Bypass
AZhiker replied to Christina.Rose's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I developed Barretts esophagitis from my reflux, including a lovely precancerous Barrett's polyp. Gastric bypass was my only option for WLS. Guess what?!?!?!?! My Barrett's is now gone! No more reflux, no more polyps, and my esophagus is normal. So glad I had the bypass surgery. -
So I won the lawsuit against SLIMBAND IN TORONTO how do i collect
jenottawa replied to ppaja60@gmail.com's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I have contacted a legal firm in Vancouver that already has a class action against the company that makes Lap-Band. Since we already have many people interested in a class action against Slimband, they might just take the case on a contingency basis (i.e. they would get 10% of any money recovered). I will let you know if/when I hear back from them. Since the Slimband clinic is closed, that would not be our target. And unfortunately it wouldn't be Dr. Patrick Yau either. It would be the owner of BOTH Slimband clinic and CreditMedical.com where many of us got our medical loans from, as it is still practicing and making TONS of money charging huge interest rates on medical loans. Where there's big money, you can bet a lawyer is going to be interested - especially since they've probably already done a lot of research into banding for their initial suit. Personally I will probably have the band removed at some point but not until I can find a surgeon that will revise my RNY to make the pouch smaller. I had an RNY in 2002 and the pouch expanded so I got the Slimband in 2013 to increase restriction again. If I take the band off, I will still have the big pouch, and I don't want that. I expect that with missed work due to Slimband complications since January 2013, I will be owed in the tens of thousands of dollars easily.
