Agreed. Wow! Btw. Just because you have issues doesn’t mean you wish it upon others. He was also talking about my insurance carrier which can be a pita. My doctor Stated results are great with revision. Did you have lapband? and you’re kidding you’d prefer being overweight and possibly unhealthy then now? -

Revision seems to be a common thread around here and I’ve always wondered if it’s so doctors can get two surgeries in instead of going straight to RNY?? -

So sorry it did not work for you. Luckily this is not very common when revising to full bypass. Which surgery did you revise to? -

What did you start with and what did you revise to? Have they been able to explain why you are still experiencing such terrible gerd? -

I had revision last year for severe GERD. Miserable was an understatement. Since revising I still have excruciating heartburn if I don’t take meds both morning and night. When I weigh out all pros and cons of my WLS experience overall, I would never have had it in the first place. My original weight was not nearly an obstacle compared to how the GERD holds me hostage now. So I also say, “good luck...but don’t get your hopes up.” -
Did any of you keep your surgery a secret? I have! Please give input!
biginjapan replied to Freedom&Bliss's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had my surgery almost exactly 3 years ago and didn't tell anyone other than 2 friends who live halfway around the world and are not connected to any of my other friends, family, or co-workers. I wasn't going to tell anyone, but then I thought someone should know in case something happens to me. When people asked about my weight loss I focused on the the low carb/portion control aspect of what I was doing (which, let's face it, is what leads to long-term success). I'm going for my revision surgery in a month's time and this time no one will know. The only people I would be willing to tell are some friends who are also morbidly obese - but only if they asked me specifically about it. In a few years time, when I am hopefully in maintenance mode, I think I would be more willing to talk about it openly, but while I'm still struggling, it's not something I can really talk about. I live in a country that has one of the lowest overweight/obesity rates in the world, so it's not like there are a lot of people out there who have a shared life experience that I can talk to about it. -

Yeah I have never experienced anything like the gerd that I had before revision. I would have acidic fluid streaming from my nose and mouth. Was so bad a few times that I lost my voice. I guess surgeons are all different about ppis. Mine is against them completely. i was so nervous about the ppis that I was supposed to take them for 3 weeks after revision. I didn’t experience any gerd symptoms so I just didn’t take them. I had already been on them for more than 1 year after my sleeve surgery. -
Right now I'm eating between 650 and 800 calories a day. I can reach my 65g of protein, and I can hold about 6 oz of food per meal, but I tend to just eat 4oz. 3oz of protein and 1 oz of a veggie. Is this normal 1 1/2 months out? Am I eating too much? My doctor says I'm doing fine, but I just dont want to mess up or stretch my bypass out. I guess I'm paranoid.

How are my fellow December surgeries doing?
BigLoser2020 replied to lys's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had RNY Gastric Bypass on 12/2. I lost 50 pounds during the first five weeks. I'm now at week 8 and my weight loss has been stalled. In the last three weeks, I've only lost 6 pounds. Very frustrating after seeing that first 50 pounds come off so quickly but I'm making a few adjustments and increasing my exercise in hopes of getting past this quickly. -
Had popcorn on my preop liquid diet!
grandmap replied to sassygirl055's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so happy to hear I am not the only one that broke down and had some popcorn before my surgery. I go this Monday, February 3 for gastric bypass. I am scared and excited at the same time. I was going to have it done last year and my family talked me out of it, so I had to re-qualify again. This time I’m going through with it. -

Here is an interesting article I read that helped me to feel better about revising https://www.naturalnews.com/2019-12-03-dangerous-drugs-linked-to-fatal-diseases-and-cancer-heartburn-meds-death.html -

Losingit2018 replied to kglowins's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I totally understand! That is exactly how I felt. I came very close to backing out of the revision and taking my chances with the ppis. plus at the time of my initial surgery I almost switched to rny right up until surgery. My thoughts were that I did not want to have the surgery twice. Don’t fear the bypass though. Just be sure to take vitamins every single day. Keep up with having your bloodwork done and you should do just fine. -
VSG to Revision
Walter Lindstrom replied to ge0rgette2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We've successfully helped several GHI members get revisions so please be optimistic - BTW, whether or not you regain weight is IRRELEVANT since changing eating patterns due to severe GERD is not only common, but often a necessary way people can tolerate ANYTHING! Let us know if you're submission is denied before anyone at the doc's office does something that might hurt your chances of being approved and GOOD LUCK! GERD really sucks so hopefully you get approved without a problem. -

Not dramatic at all!!! I agree with you. I wonder why GERD is a big deal. I would have even done bypass instead of sleeve in the beginning. -

Thanks for sharing. I did it six years ago. I know this may sound dramatic but it almost feels like I'm being punished to have to go through a revision when I've done so well. I don't want to start over...not that I necessarily have a choice. But if I had known at the time how common revision surgery was because of reflux I don't think I would've had surgery at all. -
oh, bless you, you poor thing. I had a volvulus (remnant stomach twisted tightly and cut off blood supply, made me very ill) post op and was converted to a bypass 1 week after my sleeve, in agony, couldn't drink, let alone eat also ended up with a picc line but the conversion to bypass fixed me kinda (still having issues eating) no TPN for me but headed that way if I can't get my intake and nutrients up. I'm also a nurse so have given TPN a lot. Are you able to consume anything? What's going on with your gut and bowel? Big virtual healing hugs coming your way x

The "Leak" Experience: How bad?
Bastian replied to Dr-Patient's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
a leak usually refers to staples/stitches coming undone and has to be fixed permanently or can end in fatality, so a leak itself isn't ongoing as it is an emergency and you end up in ICU. sOOOO (oops bkwds caps lol-) a bypass is probably the best option for you. What do you think about conversion to a bypass? -
Gastric Bypass for Senior Citizen
JRT Mom replied to Too old to lose?'s topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Medicare will pay for it as long as you meet the criteria. I think it was over 35 BMI with a comorbidity. There was a three month "supervised" diet (during which you don't have to lose weight), and documentation of past failures with diet alone. You must be obese for 5 years, and have a psych evaluation. I was nervous because I had been told by another office that Medicare wouldn't pay for revision surgery (failed lap band) which was odd because Medicare hadn't paid for the first one. But they came through and my bill was paid. -
Hello everyone. I had RNY gastric bypass on 12/2/19. Initially, I lost around 50 pounds in the first 5 weeks. During that time, I was only consuming 3-500 calories per day (just wasnt hungry). On my follow up visit with the surgeon, she expressed concern that I was not getting enough calories and wanted me to shoot for 1100 per day. I have done my best to increase my caloric intake but it has required me to eat higher calorie food in order to do so (not what I would consider to be diet food at all). I have been able to get up to an average of around 800-900 calories per day now. Since increasing my calories, I have nearly stopped losing weight. Over the last three weeks+ I have only lost 5 pounds which is very frustrating after seeing that first 50 pounds fall off so quickly. The last 7 days, my weight hasn’t moved at all. Am I doing something wrong or is this just a long stall that should go away soon?

NSAIDs aren't recommended after a sleeve or bypass by most doctors. I have a bad back and I take Tramadol when I have to. Losing 87 pounds has helped a lot, but it was not a cure-all for my back pain.

Losingit2018 replied to kglowins's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I revised from sleeve to rny almost 9 weeks ago because of gerd. I am just now starting to have pretty bad hair loss so it does happen with each surgery. I am not due to have vitamin levels checked until next month. I keep up with taking vitamins and if there are any deficiencies, I will correct them. I think that a person just has to stay on top of being checked so that nothing gets too far out of control. I no longer have gerd and my hernia was repaired. So far the surgery has been well worth it. -
GERD is like the main side effect of the sleeve and is always usually resolved by doing a revision. Wow, what lame-o's.
