    Food Before and After Photos

    had my three girl friends over fir Christmas drinks & catch up. I always over cater & now my fridge is overflowing with leftovers. Sigh! Also have leftover bottles of champagne too which I don’t mind about. Made a baked Brie (baked with quince paste, vino cotto & served with toasted walnuts & fresh thyme). So delicious. Bought mushroom & fete, & spinach & feta quiche slices & some salads from Botanica who specialise in gluten free & vegetarian foods & vegan salads. (Did you discover them when you lived here @ms.sss?). The coffee pavlova with coffe cream & coffee drizzle was made by one of my girlfriends & another made the fruit salad. (Forgot to take some of the pxts before we started eating so they’re partially devoured.)
  2. The grocery bill went down though because I went from not eating lunch & morning & afternoon tea to eating them it wasn’t as much of a drop as I expected. But boy oh boy replacing clothing was an expensive process. Was being very careful & buying very little as I was losing predominately just to supplement my old smaller sized clothing. I got caught because when I was at about goal I started buying more thinking I’d stabilise but I kept losing & dropped two more dress sizes. Had to be refitted for bras three times, twice replaced my knickers, twice replaced pyjamas & have shoes that are smaller than what I used to wear but bigger than what I wear now. The additional cost not many talk about. Plus it’s so exciting to be able to buy beautiful clothes, underwear & shoes in small sizes & things that are flattering & fit properly. Addiction transference??? 😁😁😁 Donated a lot of things, gave away a few shoes but still have quite a few clothes & shoes that are one or two sizes too big. Just in case.
  3. My surgeries were eye opening. I had surgery in March, where my surgeon discovered, my previous surgery was done wrong so he had to abort and close me back up. He had to assess the next steps to consider how to fix the issue he found. We made a plan and I had to wait three months for my next surgery. I had my 2nd surgery June 27th. Dr Chaisson was going to fix the issues he found the first time and do the revision. Surgery was expected to be 3 hrs but ended up being 8hrs long. This time, with a more thorough look at the anatomy, he found out my common channel was only 25cm long and my pouch was larger than expected. Both of those things mean that I never had a RNY bypass but a biliopancreatic diversion. So my surgeon had to fix the issues with my anamostasis to the pouch, resize my pouch and make my common channel longer. So it wasn't what we expected at all, my loss has been slow, but I've lost about 50lbs since June.
  4. so i had 3 procedures...breast lift, tummy tuck and arm lift. and i gotta say, of the three, the breast lift was the surprise fave. while the TT addressed my vanity needs (to rock a bikini at my age, which doesn't happen often anyway), and the arm lift adressed my self-consciousness of my flappy upper arms when wearing sleeveless tops (which i wear ALL. THE. TIME.), the breast lift addressed a quality of life issue i didn't know i had. i go braless most of the time, and its nice to not have to deal with the post bra-wearing itch or the binding feeling of wearing one. i sleep more comfortably cuz i don't need a bra at night, nor do i have moist "underboobs" anymore. running (or any type of exercise) is much more comfortable cuz i dont have the extra skin or bulk bouncing around when i move vigorously. button front shirts fit nicely over my boobs without the tell-tale gap between buttons, so i no longer keep checking if im busting out or flashing a bit of boob or bra unintentionally.
  5. There’s grazing & there’s grazing. Grazing when you eat an appropriately portioned size healthy meal over a few hours or eat several small healthy meals over the day that meet your caloric & nutritional needs are fine. Anything else, like grazing just to eat, or for boredom, etc. or grazing beyond just a mid morning &/or mid afternoon snack can be worrying & lead to the weight gain fear you have. Consider what you’re grazing on & why you’re grazing. Do you exceed your caloric need by grazing? Maybe try the mini meal grazing or eating a meal by picking at it over a few hours. Or even reduce your grazing to just a single between meal snack. (I snack three times a day. It gives me a needed additional 25 odd grams of protein but still fits within my caloric needs.) Worth trying.
  6. I've had a long history with weight problems. By the age of ''4'' I was already 68 pounds despite having the diet of the typical child. By the time I was 15 I was in the 180's and eating honestly no different from my peers. By 17 I had joined a teen fitness group and failed to lose any weight what-so-ever. I resorted to starvation about a year later and by 19 I was 150 pounds and subsisting on 500 calories per day, taking diet pills and using tea laxatives. This lead to a cardiac issue which lead me into an Anorexia treatment center by 20. I cleaned up my act and began a ''healthy eating journey'' but sadly for me that resulted in a slow creeping weight gain of about 7-8 pounds per year. Sometime in 2014 I had reached ''180'' again and decided to join a gym. Worked out for months and lost nothing. I reduced my sugars, cut out processed food.. somehow I ended up weighing even more. I was 186 by the end of that year. By 2021 I was ''210'' pounds. My doctor weighed me. I was in shock. Literal shock.. could not even believe it because I was working with a nutritionist at the time and following through with everything. This last year I have worked out constantly, eaten no carbs and I am 208. I have only lost two pounds. I am nearly 33 year old and my weight has been a seemingly life long struggle and close to resistant to change unless extreme measures were taken (Anorexia). I am very disappointed with this. I have been tested for PCOS, Cushing's, NCCH etc many times and nothing showed up. I had severe acne (took accutane three times) and mild hirsutism as well but all blood tests come back normal, ultrasound reveal no cysts and I've gotten a monthly period since 13 years old. No doctor can explain this. I feel as though they do NOT believe me when I tell them what I eat. I just had an appointment with an endocrinologist and he said what I was telling him was ''impossible''. I have asked my doctor to refer me for weight loss surgery but at 210 pounds and 5'7 they just won't do it. I am at a loss.
  7. head hunger can be a lot of the hunger you few early on… take the opportunity to make sure you are getting good nutrition and protein/fluids.. we are so used to chewing and eating three or more times a day it’s a bit of a mental trip to suddenly not… takes a while to adapt to your new realities (i am still adapting)

    Chronic pain and transfer addiction

    I’m a big fan of acupuncture. When I did my back & ended up with oozing discs, I did three sessions of physio over two weeks & no real help - she just gave me exercises which I religiously did. Went to my acupuncturist & had a dramatic improvement after one session. He used heat lamps & electroacupuncture. Worth a try.

    I’m HUNGRY!

    Hey everyone! I was sleeved in September, so I’m almost to the three month mark. My appetite is returning & it seems to be back with a VENGEANCE! Of course I’m unable to eat passed half a plate (maybe even pass a quarter of a plate lol), but I seem to be hungry more & more throughout the day. Has this happened or is happening to any of you? If so, how are you satisfying these little bursts of hunger?

    Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first

    I have three. 1. I have reached that point where my armpits are actually pits. Weird. 2. I can feel my hip bones. And my hip bones can feel stuff. Weirder. 3.     Water whoopsie

    I am three days PO and completely forgot I couldn't handle water like I used to. I was extremely parched and gulped about four to five ounces of water.     What am I doing wrong?

    Our weight loss journeys will have similarities but lots of differences too. Yours just may lose at slower rate & that’s okay. I don’t think you’re being dramatic as your dietician suggested. This is a big emotional, mental physical (& financial) investment in your life so there’s nothing wrong or ‘dramatic’ about wanting to be sure you’re doing the right thing. Oh & don’t worry too much about not exercising & that affecting your weight loss. I didn’t do any & I lost all my weight & more. I just increased my normal day to day activity - used stairs not escalators/lifts, parked further away, did multiple trips up & down my stairs (why do one trip to bring up the groceries when I could do two or three). All I do now are some stretches to support my back & some resistance exercises with bands. As @catwoman7 said, exercising only accounts for 20% of your weight loss (though I read it was only 10% for most people). Of course there are many health benefits to exercising. Just find something you enjoy when you’re ready.
  13. Stalls are extremely common @rparker3313. Everyone experiences at least one with the first usually occurring at about week 3 & they usually last 1-3 weeks. Some start earlier or later or last longer. But your snacking won’t be helping and, like with @RDC2019, therapy will likely be of help to you to so you can discover why you’re snacking when you’re not hungry. It’s sabotaging your weight loss. Snacks tend to be high calorie foods with poor nutrition & especially when you’re still so early out the nutritional value of what you’re eating is essential for your health & for your body to function effectively. Protein, protein, protein. Eat it first & then when your plan allows eat some vegetables & lastly, if you’re able a little fruit or low processed multi/whole grains in a meal. I remember being able to eat my protein & maybe a green bean or two or a cauliflower floret & that was all for a meal for about three months.
  14. Ate Taco Bell! Ordered a side of beans topped with a three cheese blend, ordered chicken on the side (they give you more) & put it all the small bowl. Taco Bell says its 120cals but I feel it was maybe 180. Yummy!

    October 2022 surgery support

    I got my surgery on October 6th about 3 weeks in. I had about a three week. Where I wasn't losing weight... I was having 600 to 800 calories a day because that's what my doctor suggested I should be sticking to with the gastric sleeve... I was very strict on amount of protein I was getting. I was getting 60 to 90 g of protein a day. Was also getting my water in everyday. I felt so defeated and overwhelmed like I was doing something wrong. So I even called my doctor's office and they said no. It's totally normal your brain. Your metabolism are trying to catch up with your new stomach... Hang in there. My only suggestion would be to double check with your doctor on what your calorie intake should be this soon after surgery... Let us know if you need any more suggestions. I hope that my story helped you in some way. Hang in there girl
  16. Let me start by saying I know stalls are normal. I know it won't drop off over night. I know this is a process, and I must trust it. But I can't help thinking that I might be doing something wrong here?? I am 7-8 weeks post op, and since my three week stall 😞 I will lose half a pound, then stay that weight for a week or longer, then loose half a pound, then stay that weight. This has been happening for over a month, and it is so frustrating! I haven't seen anyone else have something similar to this happen. The only thing on my plan that I haven't completely 100% followed is working out consistently. I walk as much as I can, daily, but haven't gotten to really do weights or anything because I have no idea what I am doing in the gym (meeting with a free consultation to get a better grip on what they have and what is what at the gym tonight) Could not weight lifting really cause this though?

    the stall won’t last .. it’s natural especially at the three week mark.. your body is adjusting and needs some time for the scale to reflect.. eat healthy, check your macronutrient count and the scale will move again … if in doubt you can also add different exercise to get things going

    I have hit a Plateau...

    that's actually really late for your first plateau - most people have their first one about three weeks after surgery! But like the others said, do nothing. Just stick to your plan and stay off the scale for a few days. Stalls usually last 1-3 weeks. If you stick to your plan, it'll break and you'll be on your way again. And like sillykitty said, this won't be your last one.

    Portion size

    First, there is no amount of weight one "should" lose by now. Everyone is different. If you are on plan you are doing great. Focus on your plan not on your scale. Get rid of your scale, it will make like much easier. On to plan. Again, each of our plans are different. Some are better or worse but it's probably more important to learn the discipline of following a plan than the particulars of the plan. By 3 months I was at my "forever" plan, which was 3 meals per day consisting of 3oz protein, 1oz veggies. I can't always manage the whole meal. If I can't get past one or two bites I may try again in an hour or so. I dump on sugar and fats, so I learned pretty quickly to avoid those. Otherwise I could eat anything. Some foods, like most snack foods, anything potato, I could eat easily and in volume. For the first two or three years I avoided such foods completely until I could master moderation, which for me was a new concept. Surgery doesn't deal with 100% of our issues. What goes into our mouths is still a choice. @liveaboard15 I've commented before that your pictured food would be a perfect meal and it looks delicious. The great aspect of them is that even if one is eating the chicken (as an example) for 4 or 5 meals in a row, adding and changing the sauce can still create quite a variety of flavors.     Portion size

    Yes, you should be eating more than 2 tablespoons at three months. Best to check with your dietician though to be sure as plans & your needs do differ. I was told start with 1/4 - 1/3 cup slowly increasing to a cup as I was able which I reached at around my 6 month mark but it did depend upon what I was eating. I was barely eating 900 calories at that point. Remember not every portion is the same & calories & nutritional content play a part too as well as the density of the food. Oh & 30lbs is a good amount to have lost by three months. I’d lost about 33lbs at three months & my surgeon was very happy. So you’re doing well. Congrats.

    Questions about MMJ use.

    To be honest I smoked the day I was discharged which was a little too early I feel it was hard on my chest it got easier after 3 days coming from a heavy smoker before surgery heavy as in I smoke at least three times or more a day I knew it would be tough but now I am 6 days post-op and I smoke it doesn't hurt my chest it feels normal if I do feel like I am getting that hungry feeling I drink my shake or I eat a Popsicle or eat some jello and it helps but I definitely helped me with my pain also. It's all about willpower and self-control and with this journey I learned that that is something that I have to have especially being around other people my willpower has become so strong when it comes to food so I know me smoking and being able to control my Munchies is okay Sent from my SM-N970U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Would probably be best to ask this as a new question rather than on an existing thread for fed insurance. Also be advised surgical programs have their own waiting lists and COVID may strike again so switching a plan that already has coverage to get surgery sooner may not be worth your time. My three month long wait from my insurance ended up being 17 months.

    Head Hunger vs Actual Hunger

    I'm on week seven post-op. Sometimes I think I am actually hungry and I may be, but I give myself about 30 or 40 minutes after drinking a little bit of water to see if I'm still hungry.... Also, another giveaway for me is that I start getting really nauseous if I'm actually hungry, but if it's been less than 2 or 3 hours since my last meal, I drink enough water to try to fill my stomach and remind myself that it's probably just the habit of constantly eating in the past and not true hunger because I ate within the last two to three hours, so I should still be pretty satisfied technically...   25. Heaviest weight 356. Weight before surgery 313... Weight since getting surgery October 6th...drumroll please........279! Woot woot! 23 lbs toil I hit 100 lost! About 3 to 4 weeks after surgery. I didn't lose weight for about 3 to 4 weeks... I was freaking out. I felt defeated like I was doing something wrong but then I looked back and realized I was doing every single thing exactly how it was told to be done... I know we're not supposed to doctor Google but I looked it up and The three week post-operative stall is actually a thing! It happens to most people that get bariatric surgery and it can last anywhere from two weeks to 5 weeks roughly. It is simply your body and metabolism getting used to your new stomach... But I'm back on track and happier than ever with the decision that I've made. Just thought you guys deserved an update for the ones that are rooting for me! The ones that think this was the easy way out. It's okay. You're entitled to your opinion, but you're definitely wrong... It's been a lot of work and dedication. It's been pain and hunger at times, but for the most part it's been the best experience I've ever put myself through for my own self-love and care. I started routine to take care of myself such as putting makeup on every day for work and doing my hair for work. These things sound small to some people, but for somebody like me that suffers with depression that's huge. So if you're not proud of me, I sure am! To the left is April at my largest weight. I have no full body pictures because I was so ashamed of myself... To the right is me last week... Progress not perfection.. how is everybody else doing for my October?
