  1. February 5th I found out I am indeed pregnant. I’m close enough to what’s recommended (march27,2019 is my surgery date) so I don’t want any lectures. This is for the ladies who have successfully gotten pregnant after wls did you have healthy and successful pregnancies? Did you have any complications?
  2. I am considering having a revision now due to weight gain during pregnancy. I didn’t gain back all my weight. 50 lbs out of the 117 I lost but I have been dieting for months and it’s just not coming off.

    January 2020 Surgery Folks

Around 2 weeks post op I added iron to my supplements and a few days later no more dizziness. Only issue I have now is getting in enough calories. My sleeve seems to be operating like a bypass in that I can barely eat 1 oz of anything at one meal so I’m still relying heavily on protein shakes. Foods I used to love I can no longer eat so it’s tricky. But try to get in your protein and fluids and add iron to your supplements. B-12 definitely helps me with energy.

    Progress!

Had my first appointment today with the surgeon. She was great! I was able to ask questions, and tell her about where I'm coming from/why I'm pursuing this opportunity all that. Gave me things to start thinking about in preparation. She said she'd recommend the bypass instead of the sleeve, which is what I was going for. Doesn't see any medical problems that cause her concern. Asking about a timeline what to expect, anddddddd she said that within the next 4 months I should be able to meet the requirements! I need to lose another 25 pounds to meet the weight for ideal safety. I've lost 12 pounds in the last 3 weeks. Super excited!! After I get that last 25 off, I have to do blood work and get cleared by the phychiatrist.
  5. Hi bikerchick519, Thank you for the reply. What made you decide to go from a mgb to a full gastric bypass?
  6. So, ready for my surgery but my surgeon is already 30 minutes late. I called the nurse and he's supposed to be on his way. So ready to get this over with. I'm having a sleeve revision, hernia repair and some other big word I didn't know, lol.

    Gastric Bypass for Senior Citizen

Good Morning, I kind of knew what I would go through. Three of my family members have had surgery. I have probably lost about 60 pounds so far. I am moving along a lot slower than my girls.I truly believe my stomach is larger than an egg! I had gastric bypass "laparoscopic".I am grateful that my diabetics and blood pressure have been under control. I do find myself getting very sad about muscle loss.I have extreme back issues that limit my ability to exercise.I can already see the loss of breast. lol "I never had big ones" but now forget what I"m thinking. So I find myself getting very weirded out about my body.I'm sure my insurance won't cover any procedures, other people, don;t understand . They think it is better than being fat. O well, I have to get off the pity pot and be grateful for all the blessing that has come along with the surgery. I'll just tuck it in" literally"lol and move forward. Have a wonderful day

I'm not sure that's true. People experience tiredness after all surgeries - I did after my plastic surgery as well. Yes - the lower calories can amplify that, but that happens with the sleeve as well. also, less than half of bypass patients dump. And that can be controlled by limiting or avoiding sugar.

Which surgery are you getting? Bypass could make you more tired. What with the malabsorption and dumping. The sleeve doesn't cause malabsoption or dumping.

    TPN anyone.?

The bypass was a huge relief for me, I would go for it if I were you and stop all the problems, my twisted gut was severe hence the emergency bypass.

    FEBRUARY 2020 Surgery dates🌹❤️

I'm having bypass. I'm all prepped and soooo ready. Not nervous just very excited to finally start the real work. My surgery is in the morning. Not sure of our time difference. I'm in North Carolina USA. I'll have almost 2 weeks in when you have yours. I will keep you posted 😄

    TPN anyone.?

I too am on tpn. I had surgery 11/7 and have been in and out of hospital several times. I have had 3 stricture dilations that have not helped. Mainly due to sleeve being twisted. I am barely able to eat or drink anything. I'm lucky to drink 10oz a day and have maybe 2 to 5 bites of food. Maybe 100 calories a day. They want to do another dilation I have told them this has gone on too long needs to be fixed. They say only other option is revision to bypass. But seeing the above reply I'm concerned I wish you the best I hope they fix your issue so you can feel better! Hugs!

    Revision to sleeve

I had the gastric bypass. Its been 12 years. I gained a few pounds not much, I'm still in my ideal weight range. So I think the bypass is great. I got the bypass instead of the sleeve because I wanted quick results. I don't know if this is a good reason to get it done but it worked for me. My son just got the balloon done and he loves it. Although I had the bypass I would get the sleeve or the balloon and lose it slowly. Mentally, its very hard to lose all that weight in such a short period. I lost 140 pounds in under a year. It took a lot to getting used to...to tell you the truth I still struggle and its been 12 years.

Anyone a few years after bypass?

another thing to consider - the bypass has been around for a long time, and there's a lot of long term data on it. Not so with the sleeve. I don't know that you'll find many people 10-15-20 years out who've had the sleeve, so I don't know what, if any, long-term issues might be.

Dr Spann was also involved with my surgery and he is AWESOME too! You won’t be disappointed with your choice! The online support group is THE BEST - highly recommend you join as soon as you’re a patient. Mine was a revision from a previously messed up revision so can’t really help you with the insurance process BUT as soon as you become a member of online group ( they’ll give u access when you go for your appointment- pose the question to the group - you will get LOTS of info
  17. I had started my WLS journey because I needed a right total hip replacement due to osteoarthritis and my ortho surgeon wanded my BMI to be under 40 before he would do it. Fast forward to the shots in my hip no longer working so I had my hip replaced on 5-29-2018. I had gastric bypass on 9-5-2018. Today I have lost 149 pounds and I am still recovering from my left total hip replacement on 1-17-2020. Recovery this time was so much easier - I was back to work in 17 days. I am still doing PT to make sure I have the proper gait and muscle recovery. I look back at pictures and think how did I walk 60 miles in 3 days with all this excess weight? Like everyone else, I only regret not doing the surgery sooner.
  18. I'm wanting to get a revision to the sleeve I had in 2015 I've gained roughly 70lb and I feel like I or the sleeve failed me. So I want the bypass now. Any input on this

    March 10th surgery date

I haven't received insurance approval yet, but I do have a March 10th tentative date for rny gastric bypass.
  20. I could have sworn i checked into this thread... if i did I can't find it. So here i am... Checking in now... Late to the party. I "originally" got to this site back in 2009 when it was called LapbandTalk.... I was banded back 11/10/2009. I am 5'2" and that SW was 232lbs. I was 42 years old and married. Lost and stayed at 143lbs for Yearsssss... well until my beloved Tina had to be removed. I got a bad case of the flu and threw up violently and slipped my band... it was a terrible day. So March 23, 2017 I became WLS...less... No more tool. Up till then i was a model bandmember.... Over the last few years, I regained 30lbs.... I had started looking for a dr. to do a revision, but kept being told i didn't "weigh enough"... I was fixing to head to Mex when i stumbled on the dr. i have now.... He said the fact that I was a previous WLS pt he could do a revision.... Yeahhhhh... So Aug 21, 2019 I started my liquid diet... at 173.5lbs. 31.7BMI. SX was August 28, 2019. SX weight 165. Today, almost 24 weeks PO I weighed in this am at 133.4..... down 40lbs.... Lost the 30 i had gained post band removal and another 10..... so happy. After 26 years of marriage, it fell apart. A lot due to the WL and his NEVER supporting my SX. Then he got very jealous... He couldn't handle the men hitting on me.... and i couldn't handle it either.... the attention was intoxicating. I have since met and remarried the most amazing man.... Our last conversation... Me: i can cook a meal at home for Valentine's day. Him: no, i want you to get all dressed up so i can show you off... Band sizes.... 20 pants, 2xl shirt, 7.5 shoe, 44H bra..... After, 6 pants, lg/xlg shirt, 7 shoe, 34H/G bra Sleeve.... 10 pants, lxg shirt, 7 shoe, 36H/G bra..... Today... SIZE 4 PANTS, SMALL/MED SHIRT, 6.5 SHOE & 32G BRA..... I'm having trouble eating the amount of cal/prot. i should be... i find i can eat about 4 bits and i'm done. My hair is falling a bit (thank god i have a lot). Please tell me how yall are doing... Today i go for a check-up and talk with the dr. on my progress. can't wait to see what he says.
  21. The reason why I wanted to know is that they gave everyone (bypass, sleeve...) the same diet to follow. I want to follow a specific diet for my own situation. Knowing more about the percentage will lower my anxiety when trying to eat something new or drink more liquids.
  22. Nearly the same as with my VSG, but every case will be different because specific revision techniques will vary surgeon to surgeon.

    november sleeve

Hey november11, this is a great forum, but I thought it was for sleeves, and I had a bypass so I thought I'd start one on the bypass forum. Hey, I can tell by your stats that we've lost the same amount of weight! Yay for us!😁

    January 2020 Surgery Folks

I had RNY bypass revision after lapband done in 2013 so going into 2 weeks ago (Jan 27th) and I am able to drink Water, only core power protein shakes bc I’m allergic to Whey protein I discovered without sipping also and I am on Presoft foods already per my doctor stating in paperwork if I felt ok to move to Presoft go forward so that consist of Soups, unsweetened applesauce and Oikos Triple Zero yogurt and I have been fine I have appt today for my two week follow up but I had a very bad allergic reaction and I am on three meds to help me not get a ulcer and prednisone(which has not made me hungry😊) to help with the itchy, red breakout. It’s been only two days since I been on the prednisone but I can tell it’s working already still a little itchy but the rash is fading. I think it’s just us healing but the food part is weird bc I thought it would feel major restrictive like the band was but it’s not been that way so far hopefully my pouch is fine. Praying that the doctor states I can start back exercising today I have a treadmill at home and weights but I’ve already lost in two weeks a good amount so you guys are giving me hope! Go Jan Surgery tribe✨💕Thanks for sharing😊
