Anyone Have March Surgery Date?😊
Hop_Scotch replied to Lily66's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My revision (to a gastric sleeve) date was confirmed today, 18 March. Can't come quick enough, I am looking forward to moving on. -
I will be undergoing a revision from ESG to gastric sleeve mid March, I have been looking at protein products for the pureed/soft post op stages. I came across lupin soup made by Formulite. Just wondering if any one has tried it? How did you find it? I could also water it down more and filter for use in the liquid stage if needed. My program has a short liquid phase. I'd only be using it for a short while for the pureed/soft stage.....I could probably do my own broth thing and add flavourless protein powder...but I know me I wouldn't bother making the broth so best to have something on hand other than protein shakes or protein water. Thanks https://formulite.com.au/shop/lupin-soup-500g-beef-flavour/

Sleeve to RYN No restriction
Michelle_I replied to Builtbetter78's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am considering revision from the sleeve to RNY-I would think you would have to feel some type of "fullness". I mean look at the images above. It is a heck of a lot smaller than the sleeve. It can all be so overwhelming sometimes! -
Hello All! I wasn't able to find a thread that had this in it - or maybe I wasn't looking for the right things. I wanted to know what post op patients have been told is a good ration on foods when it comes to the Total Fat for the amount of Protein. For example; Calories - 160 / Total Fat - 13g / Protein - 11g I'm a 6-month post op DS patient (previously had Lapband - but this was tech not a revision). Only 15 lbs away from goal so now i'm looking for ways to maintain.

Gastric Bypass for Senior Citizen
AuntGrandma replied to Too old to lose?'s topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm almost 64 and had lap band at age 52 in 2008 revision to RNY 2014 at age 58. I never reached goal but I am determined to get back on this horse and fight for more weight loss. Lowest I got was 219 from 289 and then over the last 5 yrs gained back 60 of those 70 lbs. I have recently been following low carb low fat diet for the last 2 months and have dropped 35+ lbs. Yeah me!!! My current weight is 232 lbs down from 269 in Dec 2019. My 1st goal is to get to AT LEAST 219 lb... another 13 lbs down (my previous low weight) THEN I want to continue on to reach my goal of 180. I'm sure that's possible..... isn't it?? -
Sleeve to RYN No restriction
GreenTealael replied to Builtbetter78's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
So here's something you probably didn't know going into a revision from sleeve to bypass: with a sleeve your natural/original pyloric sphincter/valve remains intact but once converted you no longer have use of it. The strong restriction that was felt/existed with a sleeve *may* never be felt again. But that's OK because you have a malabsorption tool now and if you use it properly (not chasing a restriction feeling & following through with the lifestyle change) you'll do just fine ❤ -
Do ALL DS'rs have problem with smelly poop?
Briswife15 replied to SAMMY1970's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I had bypass 11 months ago and was worried about this presurgery. All I can say is that for me post bypass poop doesn't smell any worse than pre bypass. Maybe in the beginning it did, but at almost a year out it is just a normal stink!![emoji6] Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Problems with Esophagus
AZhiker replied to Pamela R.'s topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My hiatal hernia was repaired at the same time as bypass. My endoscope before surgery showed a Barretts polyp that had to be removed and doc made me wait a month before surgery so that it was healed. Endo several months after surgery showed all esophageal issues resolved. No more esophagitis or any sign of Barrets! And no more GERD! -
Sleeve to RYN No restriction
GotItDoneInHarlem replied to Builtbetter78's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I feel the exact same way. I had a sleeve to RNY revision and I worry about my restriction. I have no restriction on liquids and feel like I'm eating way too much. I've been told that once I'm on solid foods that the restriction will become evident. I'm hungry to. I've found that eating something small once an hour helps. I've been living off of yogurt and salmon for the last week. I doubt that either of us had a fake surgery, but that's what it feels like sometimes. I had the revision at 178 pounds (for GERD) and have lost 5 pounds in two weeks. I don't want to go below 160, but I think that's going to take some time. I think we need to just take deep breaths, follow our doctor's orders, and trust in the process. It's going to be okay. -
Sleeve to RYN No restriction
Builtbetter78 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hello All! Hope all is well, So I had the VSG is TJ Mexico in 2016. I lost over 100 pounds. I have gained 70 back. So I went back to my original surgeon in TJ and he did a RYN bypass...or so I think I did. I had more restriction before I had the revision. I am at a loss. I wander if they did anything at all, I mean I am sore from the surgery and I feel like I had surgery but I feel hungry, don't really feel full. How am I suppose to loose this weight??? If I had to do it all on my own than what was the point of the surgery? Sorry y'all I am just venting and really worried. Can anyone share their input? -
Howdy everyone! I have lurked in the shadows for a while now and finally feel like I am at a point in my life where I can come out into the light and say, I have started this journey -for real- now! loss surgery has been on my radar for years thanks to my dad-I've been obese if not morbidly obese since 4th grade (I am 30 now). I have started the process of getting sleeved twice before this year. First time I only got past the initial consult with the surgeon and maybe one weigh in for the supervised diet but then we ended up moving and I let it fall by the wayside and the second time I actually moved in with my dad and started the process (I was still on his insurance) as Duke has a good program and my step mom has achieved success after having the gastric bypass so the hope was to use her as a resource as I plugged away at the insurance requirements. I even had a good therapist to work with. Alas though, it was not meant to be as my mental health staying with my dad was no bueno. Fast forward to last October, my birthday. I've turned 30. I am now a good 10 pounds heavier than my heaviest. Finally at a point where I was ready to really pursue this, during open enrollment with my work provided insurance I opted to pay more each paycheck but have a 10% reduction in my co-insurance, as well as lower deductible and out of pocket max. Even if it was just for a year, I was going to do this. Found myself a PCP I really like, and made the consult appointment with the surgeon-Dr. David Provost with Baylor Scott and White in Temple(who I REALLY liked). The appointment went really well, I have 7 months of supervised diet, which is just fine with me, I have a lot of head work and habits to work on. I also have to do a psych test and sleep study, go to a lifestyle class and at least one support group meeting(I am stoked about maybe meeting people!). Best part so far of working with Baylor Scott and White? I have a WHOLE BOOKLET of information ranging from what to do several weeks pre-op to months post-op, they also made every appointment I will need (with the exception of I think the psych-they will call me to set it up) so I can see how my next few months will progress. My last weigh in with my PCP is September 28th, my birthday is October 29th....maybe, just maybe I will get to be sleeved as a birthday present(crossing my fingers)? I have no co-morbidities----not sure how I lucked out on that one. I love hiking and my most recent accomplishment was a 7ish mile hike on Christmas Eve. I don't know what has clicked that wasn't there before but y'all....I am READY! I have enjoyed reading your triumphs, set backs and learning along with you and am finally ready for this!

Anyone Have March Surgery Date?😊
AuntCyn replied to Lily66's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi. My gastric bypass is scheduled for March 9 in Cambridge, MA. I am nervous as hell, but excited too. -
Got approved to have vsg surgery but I want the gastric bypass now! Can I switch.. my surgery date is March 11, 2020 help
StarlaK replied to Stephaniiee_u's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon at first suggested the sleeve because of my age, I’m 66. But I told him I would prefer the bypass and he really had no problem going with it. I had the feeling he left it up to the patient unless there was a major reason for one over the other. -
I'm new here, I had my initial appointment with the surgeon last Thursday and told him I was unsure which procedure I wanted. He said I was a good candidate for surgery and that with my BMI either surgery was a good choice. He pretty much said to keep doing more research and go with what my gut told me. While I appreciate the trust he has in me deciding, I'm of course worried I'll choose wrong. He did say that he currently does about 10 Sleeves for every Bypass. Currently leaning heavily towards the sleeve, but I'm a bit worried about GERD. It hasn't been a major problem for me, but I know it's a risk that it can get worse. Also sounds like slightly less weight loss, but probably not enough to worry about in the grand scheme of things. What was it for you that helped you decide on the sleeve?

February 2019 weight loss buds
Gottajustdoit replied to TheMarine79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My surgerversary was on Feb 13 and I just had my 1-year checkup with my nutritionist and surgeon. I'm at 150lbs and have been for about 3 months so I'd definitely say I'm at my maintenance weight. They asked if I was OK where I was at and I said YES! My surgeon said that the next year is crucial for ensuring the weight doesn't creep back on. He told me that many gastric bypass patients will gain back about 10% of the amount they lost. I thoughts those stats were pretty good and manageable but I'm wondering what the rest of your doctors and/or nutritionalists are telling you at the 1-year point. Are they sharing the same information? Are they cautioning you on other things in terms of diet and exercise? My nutritionist asked about what i have been drinking and it's only been Vitamin Zero and water. Pre-surgery I drank a lot of Diet Coke (for the caffeine) and seltzer water and I have been craving them. I never drank coffee. She said that many people do no tolerate the carbonation well. Are any of you drinking seltzer water and what has been your experience? Overall I'm feeling well but I'm not sleeping well. I can fall asleep but I often wake up during the night. I take my iron and vitamins at night so they don't counteract with my Synthroid I take in the morning. I'm wondering if the vitamins are preventing me from sleeping well. My labs yesterday showed that my vitamin B12 levels are high. My nutrionist has not heard a correlation between high B12 vitamins and sleeplessness but my sister claims B12 causes her not to sleep well. I'm taking OPurity multivitamins by Bariatic Advantage...only two capsules (taken together) per day so it's very easy to get in the recommended doses. Anyone else take those and have any issues with sleeplessness? It's been great hearing all your successes, team! Keep on sharing! -
I have Arkansas Medicaid and I am looking for a specialist in Arkansas that would accept my insurance (Medicaid) to cover gastric sleeve or bypass.

Lap band fitted and filled, but my stomach holds as much as before!
FluffyChix replied to ChinchillaMum's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Sorry you're struggling. I'm a bypass so can't speak to the band part. But the only thing I do know is the doc is the only one who can answer if your tool is intact. He would have to do imaging and tests to know for sure. But the thing that jumps out at me is that you are trying to use this tool for weight loss, but you are eating bread and pasta? During weight loss mode (WLM), I was very strict with protein first and veggies and hardly no fruit. And only a tiny bit of healthy fats. Did you receive any nutrition counseling? I'd ask for a referral to a nutritionist and also a bariatric counselor as well. It's important to work on the head as much as on the diet and exercise. -
February Surgery ?
GotItDoneInHarlem replied to PSquared_vsg's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang in there. I've had a sleeve and a revision to RNY and both times pain control was very effective. I wouldn't worry about the pain. -
I know DS is more complicated to operate, but I am less worried it. I am 5 yrs post sleeve and gaimed back half of the loss in the last year. Feel bad. Look bad. Domt feel good about myself. Am considering resleeve or DS revision and I am only worried but Vitamin deficiency with DS. It looks like a more suatainable option. I am worried about future ability to take regular pills when I am old and need them. Worried about mulabsorbtion of minerals. Can you please she your life stories after DS and your experience with the above issues. Im a male 51 years old

My daughter had bypass a year ago and she warned me against weighing myself every day...she said that it can be very discouraging when you reach a stall as you have described here.... I get my gastric sleeve tomorrow! Hugs to all Grace

Lap band Revision Sleeve vs. By-Pass
JRT Mom replied to Wags1's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I just had an eleven year old band removed three months ago and a conversion to the bypass. I went with the bypass because I have a history of GERD and the surgeon said that a sleeve would likely cause the GERD to reappear. I have lost 41 pounds since my surgery. Also I am now at the same lowest weight that I achieved after my band. And it's too soon to tell what my weight will bottom out at, but even if I don't lose another pound I think the bypass was a success! Good luck with whatever you decide! -
3rd Revision- RNY,band over bypass, D—Switch
HamHockSkye replied to HamHockSkye's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had the RNY in 2005. And as expected the pouch does tend to stretch over time. At the time in 2013 I chose to do band over bypass because I had loss some restriction. The D-Switch was not being done then and was the band only revision option in my area. It wasn't until last year that I was made aware the D-switch could be done. So I decided to have the band removed and do the d-switch with the intention of not continuing to gain more weight. Since the D-Switch I’ve been pretty stable but I was hoping to see more of a progression. The reason I made the post was in hopes to find someone in a similar situation. I am re-learning my body again. I’m not looking to do another surgery -
Lap band Revision Sleeve vs. By-Pass
catwoman7 replied to Wags1's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
you can gain weight with either surgery, so I wouldn't let whatever rumor you heard about that be your deciding factor. If you don't follow your plan, then the weight will come back, no matter if you have sleeve or bypass. the bypass is the more powerful surgery of the two - although people have been successful with both (and people have "out eaten" both and gained weight). If there is a medical reason for you to go one way or the other, then I'd go by the surgeon's recommendation. Otherwise, either surgery is a good choice.
