7/26/16 VSG Surgery, Anyone else?
Erb8 replied to blueeyedgirlvsg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was! I'm sore and bloated for sure, but I'm feeling fine. Walking, drinking Water, having Popsicles, and even had yogurt today but in the 1 oz. cup they gave us from the hospital. I can't seem to drink even the smallest sip of pure Protein, but that's the goal I'm working towards for tomorrow. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
My procedure was the 26th too. I came home Wednesday nite. The first nite home I didn't sleep at all. Last nite was better. My pain has decreased a lot. I do feel a little itchy around where my marks are. Still moving slow. Taking it one day at a time. I'm ready to go outside to walk but it's so dang hot. The dr told me not to go out in the heat. Walk around the house. What have you all been eating? I can do cottage cheese, but I do eat Greek yogurt with one splenda

How to quit sugar ?!?!?!?
reducer623 replied to Armygalbonnie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm in the same boat! Sweets are (were) my life! And anything that would turn into sugar in my body like bread, Pasta, etc... My advice. Take out all sweets that you maybe holding hostage & give them away to friends or family (if opened) and the others you can give them away on sites like Free Cycle or Craigslist. Tell yourself this... "I can look twice as good as those Kit Kats (or whatever it is) taste if I don't eat them." It takes 21 days to break a habit. Another thing that helped me was creating a shopping list before I went to the grocery store. I would ONLY purchase what I have on the paper. Eliminate the middle aisles... They are the DEVIL! Everything that you need are on the outskirts of the market. Notice veggies, fruits & meat are always on the far end & yogurts, almond milk etc are on the other end. Everything in middle is hogwash... Junk and poison for the body. Try to avoids those aisles as much as you can. Eat more fruit! I hope this helps! Best wishes!! If you blend it anything is probably going to be tolerated. The sugar free ice cream still might have too many calories to be a good choice, I think it's something like 70 calories for 2g of Protein per service. A yogurt smoothie might work well for you. The tuna blend looks fine, keep an eye on the amount of mayo and relish you add since those are just extra calories. Ricotta cheese and cottage cheese are also really good for the pureed stage. There's a recipe floating around for a ricotta bake which is basically a lasagna without noodles that I mostly lived off of during the pureed stage.

Ladies I need your advice regarding 'Periods' (sorry gents)!
Kernowgirl posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm on day 3 of the pre op liver reduction diet. My bypass is booked for 11th August. I've just started my period today. I can be on my period for anything up to 10-14 days and heavy. What will I do if I'm still on my period when it comes to the day of surgery? I'm scared that although I'm taking my multi Vitamin and mineral tablets that being on my period whilst only consuming yogurt my body won't cope and I'll become anaemic. Any advice ladies? Late June Sleeve Buddies?
rebecca wills replied to Maggie143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thought I hit a stall but it only lasted 4 days. I have noticed I can eat more now. So swelling has gone down. My goal from here is 60lbs. I've lost 25lbs since pre-surgical diet til now. At this point I'm feeling pretty confident that I can deal with the small plate at every dinner meal, and I'm never going to be a big Breakfast eater. Just not my thing. So shake in the morning suits me. Love my chocolate mixed with PB2. It's so good. And the Oykos Triple 3 Greek yogurt is the best and high in Protein and taste great. The only thing I struggle with is taking Vitamins. It's hard to get them down. Yucky Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
First week & Second week

I'm two weeks post as well. Living on water, crystal light, protein shakes and a very small amount of Greek yogurt. My sleeve isn't ready for more -
So I had a bad day...
MarieLouise replied to reddy4chng's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was the 12th too. I'm still really struggling to meet my Fluid requirements. I sip all day long but still barely hit 32 oz. I am allowed on my plan to advance to oatmeal, mashed up potatoe etc, but I haven't tried anything but Greek yogurt. My stomach just isn't ready. It takes me two days to eat one single serving size yogurt. I'm sick from the sweetness of Protein shakes and couldn't force one down today. I plan to investigate more savory options tomorrow. I only had 11 grams of protein today, waaaayyy below my target. Today was the only day I did that badly. I think it sounds like our sleeves are healing at a similar rate and we just aren't ready to advance much. It will get better. It's only been two weeks. -
I had surgery 7/12, and just started on the puree stage yesterday. Greek Yogurt is on my list to eat, and I ate it for Breakfast frequently before surgery so I decided to give it a try. I got about 3-4 very small bites down (even waiting between) and realized I had made a HUGE mistake. My stomach started rumbling and rebelling. I just stopped there and after a little while continued on fluids. I didn't try to push it further. It settled down after about 30 minutes but was still a little uneasy. lunch time came around and I had some pureed chicken salad. I tried that and it didn't settle either. All day I had to push the Fluid down to get enough liquid. Each sip seemed like I was pushing it down. It was absolutely the worst I have felt since surgery. Tonight I managed some mushed up cottage cheese and it seemed to sit well and do okay but I'm just sore from the day's adventures. This is a very stressful time at work so I'm not sure if that might be what is going on, or if I'm just eating the wrong foods. Both foods were on the okay list. I really don't want to mess this up so I have been nervous all day long in fear I had done something wrong. That combined with the stress of work made for a very yucky day. I felt horrible and exhausted. I hope this will pass, but honestly today was the first day I have questioned "what the H** did I do?"

I add Protein powders to everything, including my morning eggs and my afternoon yogurt. I want it up to 100+g.

There are alot of foods you can try. Tuna, baked fish, salmon, cottage cheese, hummus, beans (add cheese), ricotta bake (recipe online), greek yogurt, home-made Protein Shakes (watch sugar), chicken salad..Experiment and see what works.

Soft food stage problem
triplethreat replied to triplethreat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@JamieLogical what you describe is just what I feel so perhaps it is overeating. I'm trying to eat 2 ounces per meal, sometimes it's a struggle to finish. I have eaten puréed chicken, and I have eaten Greek yogurt, separately before together. Not sure if the combo mattered. If that is overeating then forgot about it, it's miserable. Soft food stage problem
OutsideMatchInside replied to triplethreat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When you start on soft foods. Eat one thing at time. Don't mix things. If you eat just chicken, you would know if your issue is chicken. If you eat just yogurt you would know it is yogurt. -
So far, everything is fine. I don't have a headache, and my stomach isn't hurting as bad as I expected. I am hungry and yes, I do have cravings, but they're manageable. Is this a good sign? Or do the hunger pangs usually come later; like on day 2 and 3? I'm trying to remain positive, but I'm still worried that maybe the hunger pangs will sneak up on me, lol. >_< I've heard many people say that day 1 and 2 are the worst, and that by day 5, the hunger usually completely goes away. This is what I've had so far: Breakfast - 1 Muscle Milk Protein shake (20g protein, 130 calories), 1 Light & Fit Yogurt (70 calories) lunch - 1 Muscle Milk Protein Shake, 1 Light & Fit Yogurt, 1 cup of Cream of chicken Soup (Diluted with Water and spit out the chicken, lol. ) dinner - I haven't had dinner yet, but I plan on drinking another Muscle Milk with a yogurt, and maybe some chicken broth. I may go to bed early so I can avoid the cravings, haha. Good thing I don't get burnt out on things in just a week. So, drinking Muscle Milk and yogurt will be pretty easy, especially since they taste amazing. I've love to hear your experiences. Thank goodness I only have to do this for 1 week. EDIT: I swallowed a few very tiny pieces of chicken when I was eating my cream of chicken soup. Is this ok? Next time I will strain the soup.

I'm in the soft food stage and notice that sometimes after I eat I feel sick, like I have flu or something. Today I ate some pureed chicken to which I added a bit of plain Greek yogurt. After I felt like I would throw up, felt really bad. It passes after about 30 minutes. Could it be what I'm eating? I'm eating slowly, small amounts. No liquids 20 minutes before or after.

First week & Second week
suzzzzz replied to madisunshine1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did not have an eating schedule. Was told to sip, sip, sip as getting in liquids was first priority in order to prevent dehydration. My plan added protien drinks on day 3 and I just sipped what I could and stopped. Week 2 was pretty much the same, just adding in thicker liquids like cream soups, yogurt, etc. -
Today is my first day. I'm drinking Muscle Milk Vanilla Creme with 20g of protein. I actually love the taste. It's definitely not like a vanilla shake from McDonald's, but it tastes pretty good. I'm not as hungry as I expected. I mean, yeah, I feel hungry, but I'm not suffering, haha. I bought the sugar free popsicles too. I haven't tried them yet. Today I'm going to be drinking Protein Shakes, eating cream of chicken soup, light and fit yogurt, and maybe broth for dinner. It doesn't seem that hard. I just dread getting a headache; headaches make me throw up for some reason. So, I bought children's liquid Tylenol just in case. XD Good thing I only have to do this for 1 week.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one struggling with this phase, it sounds like you have it all together, I may try some of those things you're doing and see it works for me! I live in a foreign country so I understand! I guess I'm finding it hard because I'm just not hungry so I don't want to eat, but I know I need to but if I'm still full from the previous meal why force myself to eat?! The struggle is real Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I hear you but you do have to force yourself on the protein a bit. My doctor wants me getting at least 60-70 grams a day. That's why the shakes are so clutch. Honestly I grabbed a bunch of single packs for this trip last minute and thank god I did. I don't know how I would have hit my goals without them. I just checked and I only have 3 left for 4 more days and I had been relying on them 2x a day. So I'm going to need to force myself to eat like fish or something on a strict schedule over the next 4 days or I won't hit my goals. It's really hard though. Like this morning I had to leave for the airport around 6 am. I woke up at 5 and forced myself to choke down a half a Greek yogurt. I sooo didn't want it, I'm never hungry that early. But now I'm on a plane and won't be anywhere near food/protein until at least noon. I looked frantically in the airport for a protein shake but they didn't have them. So even the measly 7 grams of protein I got from the yogurt was a worthwhile battle because without it I'd be at 0. Actually I just remembered I threw my last babybel in my bag so I can eat that now. I don't think we're ever supposed to be "hungry" at this stage. I would happily just sip fuids at this point. If it helps you at all- I make my protein shakes with milk for added protein. They have milk in Germany! Wow you're doing great, I guess I really need to focus more and really make sure I'm getting in my Proteins and such whether I'm hungry or not, I've been using almond milk never been a huge fan of milk unless it's in Cereal. Thank you for taking the time to respond with helpful tips/info I appreciate it! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I'm 8 weeks post op and am on stage 4 (mechanical soft). I need ideas for Snacks in between meals. No nuts. I have babybel and yogurt. I'm looking for something with good Protein that I can throw in my lunch bag and not have any prep to eat it (I'm a teacher so want something quick and easy I can eat in 5 mins during passing period.) I'd love to hear what you suggest! Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I'm on soft food/purées and I have to agree- it is seriously a full time job to get this right at this stage. All the advice about planning and regimenting consumption to a schedule is spot on. For the past week I've been traveling in a foreign country and I've been so busy with work or sightseeing for the bigger part of the day that I've actually been forcing myself to wake up 2 hours earlier than I need to in order to start getting in fluids and Protein. So I wake up and down 8-16 oz of Water and a Protein shake. That takes me 60-90 minutes. Then I wait 30-45 minutes and have my 2 oz of yogurt or cottage cheese. While I'm out and about I have loads of water and a Powerade zero. I've been packing a yogurt and a piece of cheese. Then when I get home at night I have another protein shake and another piece of cheese. Wait 30- 45 minutes and finish a 16 oz water before bed. Almost exclusively dairy which is annoying. When I was home last week I was eating canned or cooked soft fish and sometimes eggs which made a nice difference. I'm heading to an all inclusive resort tomorrow for the rest of the week and I'm planning to get my 2 oz of soft protein rich food at least 4 times a day and break the dairy dependence.

Ricotta Bake from this link is GREAT! http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2007/08/pureed-foods.html There are also some other suggestions on that page. I ate greek yogurt with 1/2 scoop of Protein powder added, sugar free pudding cup with 1/2 scoop of Protein Powder added, pimiento cheese (homemade so lighter on the mayo), hummus, avocado smashed up, Laughing Cow cheese wedges (very soft), Soups, chili, refried Beans with cheese melted on top, Taco Bell Pintos & Cheese. That is all I can think of right now. I did not do well with any pureed meats. It just looked too awful so I couldn't do it.

I am 10 days post op and also on mushies/pureed. I have to eat 6 -2oz "meals" a day and sip Water the rest of the day. For the first month post op I have no Protein or calorie requirements for my first month, and our water goal is at least 32oz a day. My 2oz meals are a variety of things, Protein shakes, soup/broth, cottage cheese, yogurt, mashed avocado or banana, v8, a spoonful of potent butter, humus, refried Beans or baby food. @@GinaCampbell What a nightmare for you and your friends. I can absolutely understand your frustrations, and agree that the booklet you mention should've been given first. I'm in the US and self-pay, so the idea of complications is pretty terrifying, since I have to cover them myself. I already have irritable bowel syndrome, and a lot of foods I can't eat, so that's another concern... that it will make it worse. I've heard about lactose intolerance issues post-op and since I love milk and yogurt, that is also a concern. I nearly died due to my gallbladder issues, and it was removed almost 6 years ago, so I don't have to worry about that. I was aware of that risk, however. Your story is one of the reasons that I, personally, am opposed to WLS being done on smaller people who don't have any health problems. Because I think that it just invites the risk of too many permanent side effects that people could've avoided. But then I hold the unpopular opinions that fat doesn't automatically equal unhealthy anymore than thin automatically equals healthy. I believe you can be fat, athletic, happy and healthy. I believe you can be thin and terribly unhealthy, and no one ever knows because you "look healthy." I have fibromyalgia and I'm far heavier than you and your friends were. I have a hard time getting adequate medical care/tests and while I think that's crap, and that people shouldn't have to resort to measures as drastic as WLS in order to get proper care, we live in this world, not the one I think we should live in. Given my mobility issues, exercise is very hard for me. I have no idea if surgery will make that better or not. I'm not naive enough to believe it's going to "cure" anything. I can only hope MAYBE it helps, and MAYBE I can get some improvement. Thank you for sharing your story and being so honest. I feel like the people who have experiences like yours are shunned on most WLS forums, and viewed as being overly negative. But your experience is valuable in helping people make truly informed decisions.

I kind of felt the same, but I think for me it is really because I am home with more options or not moving/doing as much as during day. Like it is definitely in my head. I have 2 Protein shakes and an unjury chicken broth throughout the day. With 2oz meals I want to boost my protein so this extra 80g has been great. I have a Premier Protein on way to work, another one on way home, and then in evening maybe a couple hours or so after "dinner" I have the chicken "broth." I do start to feel empty or hungry in late afternoon so shake has been great for drive home. Last weekend, I was out in sun and walking a LOT, I was late in eating lunch even though drinking Water all day...I really felt the need for more calories (like the 190 from shake and 2 oz of yogurt was spent!). That is as close to real hunger that i have felt. I mostly feel very satisfied.
