Thought i knew what i wanted...

Bypass was never a consideration for me. Too radical, I felt. Sleeve wasn't offered, as far as I knew when I had mine done. I'm extremely happy I chose the band, but today, I'd want to consider adding plication. Consider, being the key word. Theres another thread on here today from a longer term bandster, whos considering surgery revision, to add plication, with his surgeons advice. Maybe check out that thread for additional info/suggestions. Best of luck in your decision. -
Congrats on your revision. I hope that it works out well for you!

congrats on your revision...I will be going for revision in June....how was your pain in the hospital compared to when you had the band placed in??
-
Hi--I will say that I had more pain with revision I think...but it has been 3 years so i'm not sure how accurate my memory is. Its wasn't that much more pain though. I'm glad I had the one night stay in the hospital though because the nurses really took good care of me. I was up and moving and had to go to the bathroom about every 2 hours after surgery due to the IV bags. My surgery was Tuesday and today is Thursday and I'm still taking pain meds but I think today will be my last day of pain meds. Its really not that bad. Most of the pain in the beginning was gas pain, not incision pain. They only time I have pain now is when I get up or sit down. So, overall, its not too bad. Hope that helps :-)

Freaked myself out by reading Negative experiences. Give me the truth, please.

If 6/10 people banded have complications OR revisions, I don't think doctors would be performing so many... Check the source of that info, it sounds like rubbish. -
So I'm scheduled to have my revision on June 19th from the band to the gastric sleeve and I wanted to see if anybody traveled after they had theirs. I'm supposed to be flying out of town on June 26th for a family reunion and I guess I want to get a feel of how you guys felt after your surgery. I'm thinking I might be OK by then but I really have no idea so I would love to hear your stories please. Sent from my SM-G925P using BariatricPal mobile app

My Port has flipped - Revision surgery!?
TulipStar replied to TulipStar's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I just wanted to give everyone an update. I met with my surgeon this morning and he is as devastated as I am. He said that this is the 5th time this has happened to him and he has done well over 500 surgeries. He also said that he started using dissovable sutures for stitching the port and since he started that, I am the 2nd person who has had a flipped port. So, he is switching back to regular sutures. He told me that I ruined his week. I was like "YOUR WEEK!!" He was kidding, but pretty upset with the situation. My revision surgery is scheduled for the 28th! -
Can anyone feel there port, or see it sticking out?

my doctor told me as I get closer to goal weight, I may have to have a port revision surgery to place it deeper under my muscle tissue -
Sleeve revision (re-sleeving)
klwilliams posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hey everyone!! I am new here and am SO glad I found you all. I had my sleeve done in Mexico (I know... ) back in 2011. I have no complaints, except there was no after surgery care. So, long story short... i have gained almost all my weight back and would really like to hear from some of you about re-sleeving or another surgery that would help me. I am looking to lose, atleast, 80lbs. I don't think I want the DS, simply for the malabsorbtion and dumping issues it comes with, however, I would still like to hear from someone having gone thru each of the surgeries. Thanks in advance!- 8 replies

Sleeve revision (re-sleeving)
Hopefulmommy44 replied to klwilliams's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Does it really resolve IBS? I wasn't in the market for revision, but this would be worth it! Is there research on how it improves IBS? What is the recovery period? I had vsg in 2012, need to lose 80lbs to get back to goal...which I'm committed to seeing this through, but I'm just off of an IBS flare up, and it's horrible. -
Band > Sleeve now what?
NeedaBreak4Me replied to Debaria's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Well the fact you have had two surgeries, i highly doubt you would have major weight loss with a 3rd. The shock value of reducing calories is gone, and your metabolism would have adjusted to it. I know for certain that weight loss is slower 2nd time around, so i would imagine how much slower it would be a 3rd. Sorry i am not trying to be a negative nelly, but thats just how our bodies work.... its a fact that you lose slower and slower with each revision, and being a lower BMI also works against you. Perhaps try your pre op diet again? Cut out carbs and sugars and stick to high Protein and see how much you can achieve doing that. Are you exercising? -
Oy. *sigh* How to explain postop diet?

I get along fine with my husband's children - they are in their mid 20s, he has grandkids, I love them and they love me. Their Mom though, not so much. There is no open hostility there, just a lot of pride I guess. In any case, they don't know I had the Band and they do not know I am in the midst of getting revised to a sleeve. I have recently found out they are coming to visit for a few days in my postop period. I will be on three weeks of thin liquids, then another three weeks of thick liquids and ultimate pureed foods before graduating back to a regular diet. I do not want to disclose my bariatric surgeries. That is just plain out of the question (so please dont' try to tell me there is nothing to be ashamed of. This is about privacy, not shame for me). What can I say to explain my strange eating habits while they are here? -
I need everyone's help and support please!

I see that you are about a month out. I am also a band to sleeve revision and had some complications while in the hospital. I had to stay 5 days instead of the usual 2. My surgery was on 12/9 and I am feeling very good now. For the first few weeks I was iffy on how I felt. As long as you know from your doc that you are ok inside, I would just keep trying to drink your water; sometimes Water enhancers work. I was not able to drink plain water in the first month so I used enhancers and it went down just fine. Also, of course the Protein is important. Just sip, sip sip and keep plugging along. You should be able to eat your protein by now in foods but I have gone back to shakes at times. You'll feel back to normal soon. All the best to you. -
Starting to worry
RJC5197 replied to Autumn Riley Arnold's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too had same issue and grateful for it. I just means we are not as sensitive, and need to measure and eat the right amounts to satisfy, and not eat to the full feeling. Eating to the full feeling can be very painful and not good for the pouch long term if done too often. I had a revision and to this day have never felt "Full" and can eat anything, unlike many others. The WLS is a tool only and we cannot depend on the pouch to control us, just use it the best we can. Good luck in your journey of seeing what works best for you. -

VSG to RNY: please give me your stats
IrishKatieKat replied to Heather0811's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Good luck with your surgery in the AM. I got revised 4/15. Highest weight 311, Surgery weight 288, Current weight 243. I did good with my sleeve till the I fractured my spine. I developed a hernia and my GERD was rediculous. Then I got a pregnant a year later and only continued the weight gain with post partum depression. Doing great mentally and physically now, steady weight loss but I am right on par considering the meds I have to take slow it down. Sent from my SM-G973U1 using BariatricPal mobile app -
One surgery revision stories please!

Well...let's see. Banded in 2006. Got the typical probs...reflux, vomiting, uber restriction w/fluid removal. Fast forward to 5/20/13 and had removal, revision AND hernia repair all in one surgery. Now...I am 70% down in weight and in a size I've never seen in my life! I got the best reaction on my visit home this summer. One of my best friends of 20+ yrs. walked right past me until I said something to her back and then she recognized my voice! This surgery is what I hoped my band would do. Good luck to those upcoming revision folks. Work the plan, stick to your mini goals and long term goals and it WILL happen for you! -

Hello, I didn't have a revision but I choose Bypass due to already having severe GERD. My surgeon explained that it was very likely my GERD would remain the same if not worsen and that bypass would likely reduce or completely cure it. Almost 4 months out it seems to have CURED IT! I have had no signs of anything acid reflux/GERD related. I was on 2 prescriptions plus eating tums daily. I am off of ALL GERD medications and have not eaten a single tums since surgery. I am so pleased about that because it was miserable! As far as weight loss, I have lost 73 lbs since surgery in a little over 2.5 months. I am 6ft tall. Stats are on the side panel too if people set them up. Good luck- I hope your acid issues are resolved! -

Long story short: 2010: Band...minimal loss 2011: band slipped, repair surgery past two years...several small slips, reflux, and constant daily vomiting. I did lose weight! ha. but at what cost. Five weeks ago...band slipped, all Fluid removed GAINED 25 lbs. I went out of control. My own fault. Going to Mexico FRIDAY for revision with dr. jaime Ponce de leon He has been very honest...saying he won't know until he gets in there if he can do both procedures (removal of band/sleeve) in one surgery. IF you have had band to sleeve in one procedure...please share. And all good thoughts are welcome! Laura -
Severe Gerd/esophogeal dysmotility. Revision vs nissen or just hernia repair?
starladustangel replied to starladustangel's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
3 days post op from revision and hiatal hernia repair. Way more pain this time than before. My surgeon said I could try a protein shake tomorrow but I am having pain eating a sugar free jello. So far the best things have been sugar free Popsicles and twinings comfort tea with a little stevia. I am wearing a binder and using a cane to walk around the house due to the abdominal pain. I have not felt any gerd yet so hopefully it stays away. -

I had absolutely terrible constipation post revision too! I also had an enema then stayed on laxatives for a long time, under the supervision of my surgeon of course. (I was so afraid of constipation again that I think I stayed on them a lot longer than I should have. In fact I am finally lax free using a stool softener only when necessary. But I’m happy to report that the plumbing still works on it’s own 👍🏽) Speedy Recovery!
