How long did it take for your incision area not to hurt?

I'm allergic to adhesive too. They didn't put any bandages on me after my sleeve surgery. Just skin glue. Hopefully they will do that for you also. -
November 2022 surgery support!
NP_WIP replied to feisty one's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Almost at 5 months and officially 50 lbs to goal weight. Have been following my exercise regime and feel more toned. Clothes that I had saved from many years ago are loose, I may need new clothes for my vacation next month or will use safety pins to wait it out until mid summer. Feeling confident and energetic so booked a few activities that I wouldn't be willing to do prior to surgery. Increased my calorie a little bit since I'm lifting heavier this week but stay within 800 calories. -

Please do not worry about your weight so much. My surgeon asked me to keep a low carb high protein diet. Your weight will fluctuate and they are aware of it. You will be at least two weeks prior to the surgery on a liquid diet and you will loose weight drastically at that time.

Scalp itchiness - side effect?
pintsizedmallrat replied to greekgoddess2468's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It could be due to the decreased fat in your diet. I know a lot of us complain about dry skin in general. -
Scalp itchiness - side effect?
NP_WIP replied to greekgoddess2468's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a little bit of itchiness at the beginning, and also had skin, not dandruff, peeling from my scalp, I put coconut oil or castor oil in my scalp once a week and that helped. -
Scalp itchiness - side effect?
learn2cook replied to greekgoddess2468's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used to get scalp itchiness when I was younger because I found I am allergic to sulfates in foods and shampoos. Yep, wine casts are cleaned out with sulfates too. But skin issues are often related to vitamin deficiencies like B vitamins and D. This may take some detective work. I have found taking a mini omega-3 also helps with skin and eye dryness. My dietitian recommends using a small amount of olive oil in my daily salad dressing. Maybe it’s part of your skin shrinking? Detective work. -

Itchy red rash on stomach
Bariiime replied to MK1122's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
it's definitely related to the surgery... i have learned that the surgeons don't like to admit it. I have gotten the run around with my issue... tried several things and even was turned away from surgeon office and was told to see a dermatologist. Finally did that and was told again it's from the surgery I had that caused the rash. It have something to do with the gut bacteria being invaded. I now have all these medications and washes I need to use on my face and chest in which i'm scared it will mess up my skin more. You can find some info here and ai hope it helps. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7377524/ -
It a really hard ask when we have all done diets in the past and failed, but we only need to believe in the process. I was a doubter too. All you need to do is stick to your teams plan and have some patience. After you have stalled a few times and stay away from the scales as much, it will sink in that you are steadily loosing.

Two days post op

I guess I’m wondering too if it’s possible at my size to loose enough on the VSG to not need the Sadi? It sounds like I’m the past it worked, I’m just hoping someone in my BMI could be successful too. I would love to not have another surgery. -
Thanks for being honest and I agree with summerseeker, you should contact your care team for help! I am still in the preop stage and that is my fear” loose weight quickly and then fall back into my old patterns”. Good luck in your journey ❤️❤️

Try and get some help before this gets out of control and you feel that you have failed. Contact your team and a therapist quickly, You are not the first and person to struggle. I still have a fear of loosing my restriction and doing the same. Chocolate is my nemesis

I am new and have looked over every thread and searched every which way. I am 3 of 6 supervised diet program and keep gaining. I do not understand why. I am eating right, no cheating, exercising to the best of my ability (i get horrible headaches and dizzy), taking the vitamins but still gaining. I have Carefirst BCBS VA and looked at the medical policies required for the surgery. NO WHERE does it say I have to loose weight during the diet phase. I obviously cant seem to do it alone thats why im going for the surgery. Im 5'4 with a BMI of 49.7 as of this mornings weighing. my insurance policies say i need a BMI over 40 and psych eval. Anyone have experience with Carefirst rejecting due to weight gain? I am at my limit and stressing so bad which I am sure is adding to my weight gain. Hoping for surgery in June 2023 and looking for others experience and help. thanks in advance, and I am sorry if this asked before. I havent been able to find anything with this carrier.

Everyone's journey is different, you will see those that started to loose fast at the beginning and slowed down, and others that were the opposite. Surgery was end of month, so I count the calendar months to be easier. I lost 1st month 18.70 (including preop), 2nd month 17.4, but after it has been 8-10 per month. I did review my diet and cleaned it up a little and added exercise so I think this month will be different.

I'm getting so frustrated, 7 months out and almost 2 months stalled
NP_WIP replied to SuziDavis's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The support group nutritionist said that even though stalls are normal and part of the body adjusting, must stalls after the honey moon phase are due to the amount of protein we are consuming and we should start looking at macros at that point (60-80g protein anything above can become fat, 50-60 carbs net if lifting/HIIT, 30g fat). I have seen members of the group have slow losses around month 6 (less than 6lbs per month) and come back with a 15lb loss the next month. But if you are not loosing at all for 2 months, I will call the Doc and see if they can help you. I know you can send the nutritionist your food log and she can review to see if something can be tweaked. -
Almost to scheduling day

Had the Endoscopy done and everything checks out good. I still want bypass instead of sleeve. We talked very loosely about dates and its a tentative May 17th which is 1 week before when I wanted but it'll still be good. The sooner the better I guess. -
Hey ya'll...been a minute!!!

Things have been super annoying lately. I had surgeries for all the polyps in my stomach in Jan, Feb, and March. Thought I was done, then the doctor looked down through my duodenum and found nodules all through it, so now I have a surgery on the 14th of this month to remove them. Hopefully he can get them all, if not, then I'll have 1 last one in May. THEN I will be cleared for revision surgery in either June or July. On the plus side, my A1c is now 5.3, which takes me out of even being pre-diabetes and is now officially normal. My blood pressure stays around 110/70ish. I'm in size 18 clothes now (from size 28), size 7 ring (from size 10), have a lot of annoying loose skin (the only real skin that bothers me is the loose skin on my neck/chin). I'm back to being able to do my normal work outs again. All in all, I'm doing well. Just want these surgeries to be finished so I can have the revision, recover, and get back to living my life normally. There will be new adjustments with the bypass (my main fears are strictures and malabsorption) but I'll get the hang of it like I did with the sleeve. Just ready for everything to finally be finished. -
The first month I lost 30 pounds. Then I hit a stall. Now at 11 months out, I lose around 8-10 pounds per month. But I have more shape and definition in my body, a lot of excess skin, I'm way healthier and stronger, and as long as I don't gain, I'm happy. I've had some complications and I need to have a revision to the bypass, so I assume I'll lose the rest of my weight then. I just do what I can now. But it's normal to hit stalls and slow down losing weight.

Do you think I can lose 70lbs naturally? I'm at a crossroads :(
Jaimester replied to helenah's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi Helenah, I was like you on this journey where I wanted to see how much I could loose without surgery. I lost 68 lbs before my surgery through the program and medications to help. I did start stalling after that and decided to go for the surgery, however I have about 150 lbs to go to be at my 200 lb goal weight. I just had surgery and will see how quickly I loose. I ended up with the sleeve. Good luck on your journey and do what makes you feel comfortable. -
March 23 buddies yet?
GeorgieLynn replied to ceri84's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are doing great! This isn't magic and as you've read many times everyone is different. You are still recovery and you just need to be concerned with following your plan and getting your fluids and then protein. Keep your head up and only weigh once a week. Also remember the lower your BMI the less pounds you are going to loose when comparing yourself (dont) to someone with a much higher BMI. We should be talking about percentages of excess weight instead of pounds/kilos lost. As percentages generally match long term. Increase exercise in small incriminates as you can tolerate and stick to your prescribed diet and you will succeed! -
Thats brilliant - Yes I went back to liquids today to give my tummy a rest. I'm moving too fast I feel - 4 weeks yes. Sure I want it all now!!!! Thats great now I'm not loosing my mind.

In the first 2 months I lost 32 pounds after surgery. At my size, age and disability, I knew my losses would be slower than than a fit, young person with a active lifestyle. My team told me I would l loose for 18 months to 2 years after surgery. Its a bit like the tale of the hare and the tortoise, we all get to the end of the race , some take longer than others You seem to be doing good. What does your team say?
