Linda13108 replied to Panda333's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my gastric bypass on Friday and I am feeling GREAT! They even sent me home a little after noon on Saturday. 😊 No problems meeting protein or fluid goals. You’ve got this for sure. 😊 -

Had my bypass on March 2nd. Still having pain and I never feel hungry which makes it hard for me to remember my protein shakes. Also struggling to meet the 64 fl oz goal, but as long as my urine is pale and I’m not dizzy I’m not too worried. -

Yup... just curious if it's done the same way - I mean, I have a hernia being repaired too, umbilical, so maybe they'll do lapo instead of endo.. I will have to ask, regardless, they overturned it, Thank God, with no help from my surgeon's office.. I had to send in EOB from my last surgery, which was hard to get, they purge systems, etc. My clinical were never sent in with the revision request -- had to get 2014 medical records. I did it all myself and faxed things in ... coordinator was on vacation, he'll see when he gets back that I did it all we are moving forward! Maybe theyll do endo. hope so! -

original surgery means it's the only weight loss surgery I've had. A revision surgery means you've already had a weight loss surgery before getting this one. mine was laproscopic. I think endo is a new technique (they didn't do that when I had my surgery five years ago). -

Revision is lapro or Endo. I’m confused. Or is it surgeon choice. -
My surgery was February 3rd and I've been stalled the last 2 weeks. I was a revision so I was expecting a slow loss but I was not expecting to be stalled for 2 weeks when I'm only eating about 800-850 calories a day. My carbs are low, fat is low and protein is where it should be. It's frustrating but I do measure and I have lost inches those 2 weeks. I think we just gotta hang in there and the scale will start moving again.

Tomorrow is 5 weeks post op for me for revision from mgb to rny. The first 2 weeks I was constipated, the next 2 weeks I had severe diarrhea and then BAM constipated for the last week! I have no idea what's going on and how it can go from one extreme to the next in a matter of one day.

Random drug tests? Dang, that's harsh. What are they gonna do if you test positive after the surgery? Go back in and reconnect your bypass?? -
What does full feel like after bypass?
JRT Mom replied to Rocky_Mountain_Mama's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I know I'm not long term yet, but since I have had both a lap band and a bypass I feel qualified to answer. With the lap band I NEVER had that comfortable feeling of fullness. I always felt queasy rather than full and vomited often, depending how the first bite landed. I ALWAYS regurgitated meat of any kind, that's why I'm a vegetarian today. With the bypass I get that nice "whew, I'm full" with no feelings of queasiness, and I haven't vomited once since I got my bypass. I got my band a month before yours and it worked well for 5 years, but I also developed s slip, a hiatal hernia, and even with the fill pulled out I was vomiting up almost every other thing I ate. I don't miss it it all, and like elcee if I knew then what I know now I woulda gone straight to the bypass. Good luck! -

oh we can eat - unfortunately!! Mine wasn't a revision - it was an original surgery. I had it because I had GERD prior to surgery - RNY usually improves if not outright cures GERD (did mine!). I lost over 200 lbs - but again, it wasn't a revision. -
For those who had Robotic Gastric Bypass, how many days did you stay in the hospital including your surgery date? I was told if all goes well and I am scheduled for the surgery in the AM which I am scheduled for 10:30 am, I will be discharged the next afternoon as long as I am keeping fluids down.

Lots of people have had really good success with ESG, particularly in USA and other countries where it has been carried out for a while (as its a fairly new procedure). In Australia there seems to be a higher failure rate due to many reasons: some doctor technique is lacking, overeating, etc...some others lost restriction for no apparent reason. I think in time Australia success rate will improve as the doctors gain more experience in the technique and ongoing the technique is being improved. I am member of a few ESG fb groups where the posting is a little bit more frequent than this subforum. Message me if you would like the links. There is one good site with a lot of people from USA...it a fairly positive site. I had my ESG in Australia over a year ago. No real pain other than stomach cramps for the first few days and I did recover well. At first restriction felt good, and I had good weight loss (lost about half of what I wanted), over time the restriction lessened and I have none now. I have gained some weight back though I haven't reached my pre-procedure weight. An endoscopy showed I have about one suture intact. There is no one reason why my ESG failed and it is possible I contributed with a couple of bouts of overeating. I will be converting to a sleeve fairly soon. The surgeon has done a few conversions and he feels I should be able to convert to a sleeve, if not, he will do a mini bypass. The anchors can prevent conversion to a sleeve. I have been working hard (which help) on what causes me to overeat, it is an ongoing battle but I have made some great progress and feel quite confident going forward. I do regret my decision but only for the fact I wish I had waited until the Australian doctors had more experience with the procedure and ongoing the procedure is being refined to ensure better outcomes. My tips to get the best of your procedure would be to follow all post op guidelines particularly around volumes of food, exercise once you are able to, don't be tempted to test your restriction just because you can eat more than the guideline volumes...once you get past soft food stage, try and get as much protein from food as opposed to shakes (satisfaction and restriction will kick in quicker than with fluids), avoid slider foods and if your doctor/clinic as a post op management program make sure you commit to it and make all your appointments. Don't abandon the program with embarrassment if you have stalls or weight gains along the way...this will the time when you most need to reach out to the experts. One important thing is to work on what causes you to overeat, this won't change with the ESG, those battles will still be there, if you work on them now you will have better outcomes for your ESG. My outcome is but one of many of successes and failures, on the main ESG group on fb there have been some great successes particularly in USA.

Oh Wow. I’ve had “slider” Issues with the sleeve. that was due to a few bad choices. My own fault 🙂 I always saw a bypass as never eating again. LOL! I recall many many years ago people having it and never eating a meal again that wasn’t liquid. Guess not. i has a friend who revised due to her stomach flipping ... she won’t admit the revision but her son slipped up and told us. She doesn’t want people to know as she didn’t or hasn’t lost anymore weight from her original sleeve. Unsure what she’s hiding. did you lose any weight w the revision? As long as I get rid of the heartburn and feel good everyday. I can’t take it. This liquid diet today isn’t fun so I hope it’s worth it. -

Thanks everyone. I don’t remember even asking about dumping lmaooooo I was half asleep I guess lol Dumping is vomitting or the other day around. and why does it happen anyways? I know what Bypass is and how does that change the way I’ll eat. I better do some research. -
Agreed. I’d speak with Dr. Keshishian regarding a revision to the DS. He’d give you a fair opinion.

What does full feel like after bypass?
Rocky_Mountain_Mama posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
After being successful for 10 years with the lap band I will be having a revision surgery from band to RNY In early April. The need for revision is like so many others, slipped band and awful GERD that ultimately required deflating and has resulted in my gaining almost all of my pre band weight back. :( My weight struggle had/have a lot to do with the fact that I just simply do not ever feel full. I can eat crazy amounts of food because I just never get a message in my brain that I’m full. The band changed that IMMEDIATELY! I believe that’s why I had such great success, because I knew very quickly if I’d eaten to much or too big of a bite and full was a sensation I finally recognized. As soon as the band was deflated, I went right back to having no sense of fullness and could eat as much and as long as I chose. It’s like I have no shut off valve. My question is this; What does being full feel like after bypass, as in long term, not during the recovery period. Do you know immediately if you’ve taken too big of a bite or haven’t chewed well? Do you stop eating because you know you’re full? As in, “whew I can’t take another bite!” and you don’t even want to, because you feel full! Thanks for any insight! -
Have you had any medical evaluation of your GERD other than just what you are feeling - an upper GI or endoscopy to see whats going on in there to cause it? Self diagnosis is not a good start toward a revision. The VSG has a predisposition toward GERD owing to the stomach volume being cut down much more than the acid production potential along with its high pressure character (much like the RNY is predisposed toward marginal ulcers, dumping and reactive hypoglycemia owing to its specific quirks.) If your GERD is a simple result of the above VSG factors, then revising to a DS won't help the situation; an RNY is the more typical solution. However, if your GERD is caused by a hiatal hernia or a malformed sleeve (strictures and the like) then it is not unreasonable for surgery to correct that particular problem will do the trick; a DS in itself will not do anything for GERD as it will use your existing VSG as a starting point - a re-sleeve may be done at the same time depending upon need. Revising to the DS will help some with losing some regain but mostly will help avoid future regain, but revisions in general are typically only marginally successful in treating regain. I can't speak for your specific insurance, but generally insurance will cover any medically necessary revisions for treating complications.

*Almost* no Surgeon will revise a VSG to a DS if GERD is a factor. Something to consider...

Hi everyone, im 4 weeks post op gastric bypass. I have lost 8 kg so far, but mostly due to not being able to eat either due to liquid diet or my recent ulcers i feel fine now. But im afraid the honeymoon period is already over. Im no stranger to weight loss surgery this is my third...i just feel a type of exhaustion coming over me...i have lost 30 kg in the past...and now thinking about my 8 just seems like im such a long way off...especially since this time i started heavier than before. I dont have access to psych support..im wondering if at least i can find some people to talk to here... ...i still crave food...i had 12 pieces of sushi today...why am I tolerating this much food? I feel too heavy to exercise, my back and knees hurt...i just feel i did all this for nothing its a very dark day for me today i feel i will never reach my goal

Has anyone had a revision from sleeve to a duodenal switch with GEHA insurance? I’m having terrible GERD. I had the sleeve 6 years ago and have been on nexium ever since. My GERD is getting worse. So I’m thinking about starting the process of having a revision. Not sure if GEHA would cover it or even where to start with the process.

My surgeons office has a one year minimum on alcohol, but not everyone follows that. Let me tell you about my uncle though... he had Gastric Bypass and a few weeks after surgery he thought it'd be okay to start drinking beer. He had one about every other day. A few months go by and... they tell him he has cirrhosis of the liver. The thing is that before his surgery there was absolutely nothing wrong with his liver. Now after drinking 3-4 beers a week he developed cirrhosis. Apparently it's rare and only happens in like 2% of people (or so he was told), but within six months he was dead. My uncle had lost 180 pounds and had the surgery to extend his life because he had a young daughter and now she'll never remember him. He's been gone for four years. Don't drink until the doc tells you ok and even after that monitor your health really closely because you don't know if that 2% will be you. Just a word of warning... Also, I didn't tell you this to scare you, I just wanted to caution you on how serious it is to follow the doctor's orders. I can't help but think that if my uncle had waited the full year that he might still be alive.

Gastric Bypass - April 2019 -
So I had my gastric bypass on February 25th. The doctor found a 1 inch hernia on my diaphragm while inside that he repaired. How it was missed before hand, I don't know. I had 2 EGD'S and an ultrasound of my gallbladder trying to discover the source of the excruciating acid reflux and stomach pain.
Anyhow, I was to be released the next day but that didnt happen. I was kept in for 4 days. My vitamin levels were low and the pain in my left shoulder was awful (due to gas and hernia). After leaving hospital, I went in Monday this week for infusion with 2 liters of fluids and today for 2 liters of iv fluids and steroids for inflammation. I'm concerned because I feel like I want to pass out a lot. I'm doing good at drinking my protein shakes and broth and my water, but I'm still showing that I'm dehydrated. I wonder if anyone else has had this problem?
On the upside, I have lost 18 pounds! That makes me happy. I feel like I need to figure this out so I can get over this hump and really get to work on myself. If anyone has any suggestions I would really love some advice.
