  1. Hi I am just starting this journey and I am two weeks into the "diet" so I am replacing one medal with a protein shake. The problem what do I eat??? I find that I have done too many diets when now I have no idea what just am doing? I find I am eating too much fruit and sugar free jello/pudding. Is anybody else stuck? I know that I am concerned enough to make another appointment with the dietician. Any advice??

    weight loss stall!

Watch the carbs...track them with myfitnesspal or some type of tracking program. If you are working out more than before you possibly are putting on some muscle, so you can expect some gains. Make sure you are getting all your protiens and waters in. More cardio helps too. At about week 3 your body adjusts to the sleeve and holds on to the fat much harder than before. Going as low carb as you can, and getting in all your exercise, is going to get you going again.

    Looking for a Maine Mentor

I'm in NH (seacoast area) and had my surgery on March 24, 2011. I'd be happy to help in any way that I can!!! I'm 10 weeks post op today and am down a total of 44 pounds! About 16 pre-op and the rest since surgery. Feeling great! Just got back from a vacation at an all-inclusive resort......what a difference from last year! LOL
  4. I'm new here and have my band revision surgery scheduled for June 20th. I of course can't wait to get this thing out of me and get some relief from the reflux and the sinus drainage that backs up my throat at night. I do have a few questions I haven't found answered here so far and hope you kind people might weigh in (pun intended) on some possible answers. !. Are any of you still plagued by mucus drainage backing up at night from your stomach up and out? Either when you have a cold or it's sinus season (which for me has been quite long each fall and spring)? My surgeon says this may still be an issue for me but hopefully not as bad as with the band. 2. My nutritionist thinks since my allergies seem heightened right now that I may be slightly allergic to whey, which is making my mucous thicker aggravating the issue. She said to stay off milk products for 2 week to see. Since my band is giving me issues I have been drinking milk for Protein and drinking RTD Meal Replacements with whey. I have stopped the milk /whey products and it does seem to help. My question is since soy is not a good protein for post op diet but whey seems to aggravate the mucus issue what can I substitute for the whey protein during the clear and liquid stages? I hope that with the band out the mucus won't be as big an issue and I can do the whey but if the sleeve is swollen from the revision surgery I may still have this issue. Any other allergy sufferers out there that are band to sleevers? 3. After reading about the hopefully less hunger sensations I'm hoping to be one of the the no hunger folks. But head hunger is an issue with most of us who ate ourselves into needing WLS for a solution. I've passed my second psych evaluation (first was with lap band), I lost 85 pounds with the band in 2 1/2 years but in the last 6 - 8 months I've gained back 18. Some of this is band issues, fills, unfills, etc. but I have to admit there is a part that is from depression over the band issues, constant reflux, esophagitis, and slidder foods as comfort foods. I'm so afraid the head hunger will still be an issue. Have any of you had to deal with the head demon just as bad as before the sleeve? If so how have you dealt with it? This being my second WLS, I want it to be my last, the band failed me and has probably caused some damage to my esophagus and then there is the scar tissue. But I want the sleeve to be my long term answer. 4. Last question: Who still replies on Protein drinks for nutrition after the post op surgery recovery? And how far out are you? I appreciate your answers and think this forum is great, such a kind group of folks. Thank you all for having this out here for us all. Gloria
  5. Hi to all. I am 3 weeks post op. I'm still having pain in the area the band used to be and in my lower abdomen on the right side. Is this normal? This is mostly at night when I'm sleeping but also throughout the day if I sit a certain way or turn a certain way. Anyone else experience this?

    Belching

I'm two weeks post op and have realized when I over eat or eat too fast I will burp. This is a warning sign to slow down or stop eating.

    Thanks to all of you!

So earlier this week I was battling with some lack of focus in my efforts to stay on track. I am 1 year post-surgery, have lost a good amount of weight, but I still have about 30 pounds to go before I get to my goal weight and goal BMI. I have been stalled for a while and I was feeling down. I want to thank you all for sharing your stories on this forum! Reading all your experiences, troubles, successes, and thoughts has re-energized me to lead the healthy life that I know I need. I live pretty far from my hospital so it's hard for me to attend the once a month support groups that they offer. This on-line forum has allowed me to check in each day with others who are fighting the same battles that I am and has provided me a way to reach out to others who know the road we are all on. I may stay on forever, I may stay on for a couple of weeks, but this forum and all of you came along at the right time for me. So thanks!

    My first stall

I am low BMI and 6 weeks post op. Experienced my first stall today. Eating is stressful as I am trying to maintain protein levels and I am eating with that in mind. Difficult to maintain fluid levels. I am embracing stall but will be more diligent with intake.

    Full liquid diet stage 2

I'm the same way I'm 5 days post op and can't seem to stay full for long but then I go to eat my pudding or drink milk three or four sips/bites in I'm full I don't understand.
  15. OMG I was about to post the same thing!!! I’ve not necessarily been very hungry but I’m stalling also and my surgery was the same day as yours. So frustrating! I walk almost 2 miles everyday as instructed and eat protein for every meal. I’m stuck at a 23lbs loss
  16. I completely agree with you. I am so jealous you are going as soon as next week. Good luck. I wish you the best.

    Slow Loser? Maybe not . . .

Good wake up call! I'm the same way. Had my surgery on 3/19, have lost 52 lbs and in a stall. Everyone else that I am friends with on this forum that had surgery the same day have outpaced me. I'm 6'0 and my weight loss show immediately - very lean do to distribution. I think that is the reason why it is slower. Plus, I'm perimenopausal too. Comparing is Madness! Great post!!!

    wight loss

muaraclegg - you are right, too. I need to drop my calories and get to the gym. I can do the eliptical for a whole 30 minuites without feeling near death. That is a feat for me! bel;e - I am envious that you can do the elliptical that long. I tried the gym and even have a treadmill in my basement, but I get BORED!! I walk 3 miles as many times a week as I can, plus I do some exercise vids I found OnDemand. But I am in a slow spot in my weight loss now and it is annoying to me... I need to boost my metabolism.... someone recommended I try and fool it by upping my calories for a day or too and then dropping then back down (prob not the healthiest), I am trying that today.. going to drop back down on Sunday to my normal 600-800. Also drink plenty of Water - I think I lose more when I drink more water. Unfortunately I am a diet coke - aholic. I can't drink it from a can or bottle anymore so I allow myself a fountain soda every day - if I don't have it in the house I freak, if it's here I can drink water all day and it won't bother me,

    Not losing weight

Sounds like you are in a stall... Which is very very common and you will have more stalls along your journey. Just keep at it.

    Not losing weight

I had VSG in February and haven't really lost that much weight. I started at 192 the day of surgery, and am at 172 today. I have been 172 for 3 weeks now and have not seen any change I wonder if I'm not getting enough calories. I only eat about 1000 calories a day. I struggle to get my fluids in as well.
  21. Hi everyone! I'm a 26 year old woman from Texas, and I'm going in to get banded on Monday of next week. I'm excited, scared, and thankful to have gotten the opportunity to have this surgery. I'm single, and I figure that my twenties is the perfect age for me to start getting thinner. I think the bad (food getting stuck, not eating out as much) outweighs the good (being healthier, looking better). Does anyone remember the kinds of pain medication they were prescribed? Did you have to take a steroid? I'm kinda sensitive when it comes to pills. Do you have to take out all of your piercings when you have the surgery? (I've got alot of ear piercings....) Any advice?
  22. I just came down with a sinus/head cold. I am afraid if i dont get better i wont be able to have my surgery. Surgery is scheduled for Tuesday March 17th. Did anyone else have this problem beforehand? What did you do? If its not done next week i have to wait 3 months.

    Weeks 3 and 4 exhausted

Well, it's possible that your body is working to readjust again to the new intake "style". However if it doesn't improve in the next week or so, make sure you talk to your doctors!

    more restriction?

Hi, I think you should contact your Nut about this. I have days like that, but I'm only 8 weeks out. Good luck with it though.
  25. Hi there! I am 24yo myself and even though my family has been very helpful, it was very difficult the very first weeks. I would almost leave the dinner table out of anger twice a week because it would just be so painful and awful to eat. But it will be better, I have had my sleeve since February 2016 and now I basically lead a pretty good life. My BMI is down to 23, I feel healthy and physically and mentally free of all the restraints I had when I was obese: no more running out of breath, no more CPAP to sleep with, no more disgusted looks or hints that I should lose weight (now it's actually the rather opposite), my self-esteem has gone up and I dare to do simple things that ashamed before like eating in public, going to the beach or even take a seat in a train or the bus (I might have been pretty paranoid). So yeah, tough beginnings, but you will see, it will get better!
