Oy. *sigh* How to explain postop diet?
anonynurse posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I get along fine with my husband's children - they are in their mid 20s, he has grandkids, I love them and they love me. Their Mom though, not so much. There is no open hostility there, just a lot of pride I guess. In any case, they don't know I had the Band and they do not know I am in the midst of getting revised to a sleeve. I have recently found out they are coming to visit for a few days in my postop period. I will be on three weeks of thin liquids, then another three weeks of thick liquids and ultimate pureed foods before graduating back to a regular diet. I do not want to disclose my bariatric surgeries. That is just plain out of the question (so please dont' try to tell me there is nothing to be ashamed of. This is about privacy, not shame for me). What can I say to explain my strange eating habits while they are here? -
Starting to worry
RJC5197 replied to Autumn Riley Arnold's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too had same issue and grateful for it. I just means we are not as sensitive, and need to measure and eat the right amounts to satisfy, and not eat to the full feeling. Eating to the full feeling can be very painful and not good for the pouch long term if done too often. I had a revision and to this day have never felt "Full" and can eat anything, unlike many others. The WLS is a tool only and we cannot depend on the pouch to control us, just use it the best we can. Good luck in your journey of seeing what works best for you. -

VSG to RNY: please give me your stats
IrishKatieKat replied to Heather0811's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Good luck with your surgery in the AM. I got revised 4/15. Highest weight 311, Surgery weight 288, Current weight 243. I did good with my sleeve till the I fractured my spine. I developed a hernia and my GERD was rediculous. Then I got a pregnant a year later and only continued the weight gain with post partum depression. Doing great mentally and physically now, steady weight loss but I am right on par considering the meds I have to take slow it down. Sent from my SM-G973U1 using BariatricPal mobile app -
One surgery revision stories please!

Well...let's see. Banded in 2006. Got the typical probs...reflux, vomiting, uber restriction w/fluid removal. Fast forward to 5/20/13 and had removal, revision AND hernia repair all in one surgery. Now...I am 70% down in weight and in a size I've never seen in my life! I got the best reaction on my visit home this summer. One of my best friends of 20+ yrs. walked right past me until I said something to her back and then she recognized my voice! This surgery is what I hoped my band would do. Good luck to those upcoming revision folks. Work the plan, stick to your mini goals and long term goals and it WILL happen for you! -

Hello, I didn't have a revision but I choose Bypass due to already having severe GERD. My surgeon explained that it was very likely my GERD would remain the same if not worsen and that bypass would likely reduce or completely cure it. Almost 4 months out it seems to have CURED IT! I have had no signs of anything acid reflux/GERD related. I was on 2 prescriptions plus eating tums daily. I am off of ALL GERD medications and have not eaten a single tums since surgery. I am so pleased about that because it was miserable! As far as weight loss, I have lost 73 lbs since surgery in a little over 2.5 months. I am 6ft tall. Stats are on the side panel too if people set them up. Good luck- I hope your acid issues are resolved! -

Long story short: 2010: Band...minimal loss 2011: band slipped, repair surgery past two years...several small slips, reflux, and constant daily vomiting. I did lose weight! ha. but at what cost. Five weeks ago...band slipped, all Fluid removed GAINED 25 lbs. I went out of control. My own fault. Going to Mexico FRIDAY for revision with dr. jaime Ponce de leon He has been very honest...saying he won't know until he gets in there if he can do both procedures (removal of band/sleeve) in one surgery. IF you have had band to sleeve in one procedure...please share. And all good thoughts are welcome! Laura -
Severe Gerd/esophogeal dysmotility. Revision vs nissen or just hernia repair?
starladustangel replied to starladustangel's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
3 days post op from revision and hiatal hernia repair. Way more pain this time than before. My surgeon said I could try a protein shake tomorrow but I am having pain eating a sugar free jello. So far the best things have been sugar free Popsicles and twinings comfort tea with a little stevia. I am wearing a binder and using a cane to walk around the house due to the abdominal pain. I have not felt any gerd yet so hopefully it stays away. -

Yes. My insurance covered both my original surgery as well as my revision. -

I had absolutely terrible constipation post revision too! I also had an enema then stayed on laxatives for a long time, under the supervision of my surgeon of course. (I was so afraid of constipation again that I think I stayed on them a lot longer than I should have. In fact I am finally lax free using a stool softener only when necessary. But I’m happy to report that the plumbing still works on it’s own 👍🏽) Speedy Recovery! -
Wondering how many Aussies we have in here as I suspect that guidelines here in Aus are different to in the USA. I was banded in June 2009 and I know at that stage food recommendations here were very different to in the US. I am now looking at revising to RNY. It would be nice to be able to compare experiences with other "locals". When I got my band I belonged to a local support group and that was great but the group no longer has regular meetings. Also most members seem to be struggling or have had their bands revised to a sleeve. So if you live in this vast land jump on and lets share

I Made It! I've crossed over.

I was also sleeved on Tuesday.... band to sleeve revision. Some discomfort/pain, some nausea, and def hard to get in liquids, but overall not too bad. I also burp after every sip. I hear day 3-6 are the roughest, so let's hang in there. We got this! Hope everybody has a smooth recovery! -
Is the acid reflux permanent?
Tiffykins replied to steve-o's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hope some of the others pop in here. I've chosen to stay on my Prilosec, and not wean off of it. The long term side effects are truly minimal, and I'm not willing to feel like crap just to avoid popping a Prilosec. I know there's a few around here that have had success getting off the PPI. I am not willing to deal with rebound acid, or any of the other symptoms of acid reflux. I didn't have reflux before my revision, and I don't plan on suffering from it now. My surgeon agrees that me staying on it is not an issue. I won't even test the waters to get off of it. Some patient's reflux improves, or is resolved, and others have it worsen. It's kind of "luck of the draw" on this one in my opinion. -
I had a circumferential tummy tuck in September of 2011. At the time the doctor had suggested a fluer de lis tummy tuck but I was opposed to it give the potential scarring. Five months latter I am considering have the circumferential revised to a fluer de lis to deal with the sagging middle stomach, as I am still unhappy with the results. Anyone have one? What are your scars like? Are you happy with the results? Thanks

I’m assuming that post op diarrhea is normal due to the stages of eating . I just had a revision from band to rny on Thursday so I’m 6 days post op. I was just discharged Sunday . I’m on stage 1 of clear liquids still and protein. I’m gassy and every gas is watery stools and constant . I’m also on an antibiotic and the side effect could be the trots . I’m sure sugar alcohol had aggravated it too. I’m just worried about dehydration happening as I’m trying to stay hydrated . I did introduce a triple zero Greek yogurt today because I’m tolerating fluid fine just being slow as instructed . I have had waters, a premier protein shake , some broth, some high protein low sugar ice cream (Enlightened) so about 300 calories today . I’m probably extra gassy from the 3 net carb good for you ice cream but I was already pouring watery stools being just on clear fluids . I’m hoping that once other textures come back that this tapers off? Thursday they should start me level 2 since I ate Greek yogurt today as I consider it liquid once it goes in.

Is ESG and Gastric plication the same thing?
frust8 replied to PinkMints's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
Well I've heard the difference is they do the plication with sutures and the ESG with some sort of rivets. I base this on Dr Tom Umbach from Blossom Bariatrics on You Tube. He said it is almost impossible to revise an ESG for this reason. Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app -
I have the same thing. In fact my doc says that every band to sleeve revision he's done results in a pouch above the sleeve. He told me that when he does the sleeve it looks normal, but because that upper tissue is stretchy from over dialation with the band, it makes a pouch. That makes it really important to measure out your food as it is easy to eat too much and when the food proceeds down the sleeve it could really stretch out over time.

Well after being denied and appealing the surgery and waiting 7 weeks for a surgery date which is 3/18, I believe they are canceling my revision due to the virus. Because it’s elective. I hope I’m wrong. I am in so much pain from the heartburn. I’ve been on a liquid diet for 2 weeks. I’m so upset.

Lapband to sleeve revision done oct 3
timarland replied to Road2health's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
How long was the surgery? How long did you stay in the hospital after your procedure? I'm having my revision in December - I've had the band for almost 10 years. Sucks. -

Weight loss slower than anticipated
Smanky replied to mathiasinthe314's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
You're losing much faster than I did (I averaged about 2 pounds/1kg per week), and I wasn't a revision patient. Just be patient and kind to yourself and stick to your plan and you'll get where you want to be. -
Weight loss slower than anticipated
catwoman7 replied to mathiasinthe314's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
as others have said, weight loss after revisions is almost always slower than after a virgin surgery. Plus you're starting at a lower BMI to boot (and starting BMI is another factor in how fast or slow the weight loss is). Honestly, even given that, you're still losing faster than most people who've had a revision (and even faster than some of us slow-pokes who had a virgin surgery!). You are doing great - I'd quit worrying about it. Stay if the scale if it's playing with your mind too much - maybe just weigh once a week or a couple of times a month. If the general trend is down, you're good. -

Sleeve Stretch

I was only sleeved 4 weeks ago so I'm not sure. I am still on soft liquids and I do feel a little restriction but I was a revision so it could just be mis shappen from that...
