    I Am So Beyond Frustrated...

I am with you on that. I was banded on January 14. The first 2 weeks I lost 15lbs. Since then I have lost 1 lbs. I am so disappointed. I had a fill of 2cc on 2/18 and on 3/3. I am still feeling hungry. Why does it seem like this is working for everyone exept me. I expected to loose at least a pound a week.

    I Am So Beyond Frustrated...

I have a little of the same going on. I have been banded only three weeks, but per dr. Plan am on real food, three small meals a day. I do have 2 cc's in the 10cc band and I am not hungry except when I am supposed to be. But I am finding a problem area right after school ( I am a teacher) when my own kids are scarfing snacks I want to eat bits of what they have or another unhealthy food. Yesterday I ate a doughnut because I treated my kids to one. What we need to do is find a replacement behavior for those problem times. When I am tempted to emotional eating I've found that I am usually stressed or frankly feeling sorry for myself, and have found that melancholy or inspiring music is a good replacement, I can brood and then change my outlook too. I even created an iPod album for it. Another thing I did was journal all the reasons I am doing this, so when I am feeling tempted I read that or write in it some. I am a mom of three (8,4,and,2), I work full time and am in the middle of getting a master's degree. My hubby was against my getting the surgery and has not been helpful, so I know all about stress eating. It is incredibly hard for me not to pop a little of my kids leftover snacks or dinner in my mouth and I haven't conquered it but am analyzing my habits and making plans. You ARE powerful and you do not have to succumb to this challenge, just keep plugging away at it even if you only make a little progress at a time, don't give up!

    I Am So Beyond Frustrated...

Story of my life! I felt as though it was me posting this! Hell I lost more weight on my pre op diet than what I'm actually losing now! I know the band isn't the answer but shouldn't it be doing something !? I have had 3 fills and I get restriction for about a week or 2 then nothing.....and honestly i get frustrated when I see all these success stories and I feel like I will never get there : /

    Needing Motivation

I had a similar situation however I have gained about 50 lbs back and just feel so defeated. I kept my weight off for almost three years. Then my husbands career ended a month later we found out he had cancer. Then cancer surgery. Thru it all I started to use food to cope and quickly regained so much. In our area our program does not have much of a follow up program. It is all about getting you to the point of surgery. After that you are basically on you own. I am starting a new program this Friday with a new nut to help me get back on track. This is sad never thought I would be this heavy again. Dealing with obesity for a life time......surgery is not a cure-all. I have to learn to deal with stress in some other way.
  5. I also have had Splenda and a few other 0 calorie sweeteners without any harm too. I keep seeing articles and posts touting that artificial sweeteners can make you gain weight but when it comes right down to it I don't see any plausible explanation as to WHY. They typically just mention the fact that it wakes up cravings for sweets causing the person to consume other high cal sweets, I haven't had it happen to me. I drink a few diet 0 cal sodas a week, 2 cups of coffee with Splenda a day and have pretty steadily lost. I recently started to lose again after being stalled at 210 for over a month but while my weight stayed the same my measurements kept decreasing, I was building muscle from working out and displacing fat. Short answer - no one really knows, if they do their not coming out with a scientifically backed answer.
  6. Hi All...I'm 6 days post-op and the hunger is starting to set in. My doctor says water, broth, jello only for the first week and that's what I've been doing. I'm trying to learn when I'm "full". It feels like my pouch gets full after 4 - 6 oz of liquid, but there is still a "lower stomach" hunger. Has anyone else had this? It's very strange to feel like you can't drink anymore but yet deep in my stomach I feel a gnawing hunger. I wonder if this is just the way hunger feels now.
  7. Thanks Jack. I needed to hear that. I don't have the hunger, but I am bubbly, and it feels just odd. I needed to hear that it is going to feel better at some point. I feel bad for folks who can't be on full liquids to start. I've been lucky in that Doc said anything that'll go through a straw since Day 1. I think I did about 2.5 days clears, and I am on day 3 of full liquids. I think I'll be in this stage for another week or so before I move on to mushies. Thanks for telling us it gets better.
  8. Today is one of those days where I feel like I'm going backward. Though I've made amazing progress in the past three months, the past week is what is getting me down. It's the yo-yo plateau. You know, the same two pounds...back and forth, back and forth. Ugh! I am trying to step up my exercise and mix it up a bit. Watching my calorie intake. Trying to keep my water intake up as well. Those two pounds just won't leave forever! I know I should focus on NSVs like all the positive comments I'm getting from people; the fact that I have very few items in my closet that fit; the fact that I just got a pair of pants that are THREE sizes smaller than what I had when I started this journey. Isn't it amazing how two freakin' little pounds can trip you up in such a way. Okay....gonna try to be more positive tomorrow.

    Neurotic!

Ive been banded a year and to break the news to you, this is what they told me was bandster hell and it doesnt change until you reach restriction. The 1st couple of weeks I felt like a drug addict I was feining for food. I lost 15lbs drinking the broth, jello etc thats in the 1st 2 weeks. WHen I went for 2 wks post op I begged the doc for food cause I was so so hungry. He laughed at me and alloowed me to go on solids in moderation as tolerated. Let me just say my 1st stop was to get some rotisserie wings :-) It can take months to get restriction and it dpends on your band size, etc. I have a large band and it took me about 5 fills for restriction. My doc only will do them about every 3 weeks or so and if I was losing he wouldnt fill me just to suit me. If I had less than a 3lb loss then he would do it. It really does get better, just make sure u xoomunicate to doc. I told him "look I can eat a whole fats food chicken dinner and the biscuit without it bothering me" Then he understood more clearly and gave me a more aggressive fill in April and I havent had to go back since.
  10. I spoke with a Dr. today (new, I have not seen him before) and #1. He will only give me a referral within the system He/I work for (I work for a hospital), thereby excluding the other hospital which is where the majority of lap band surgeries are done. #2. He was very condescending and discouraging. Told me I would never meet the criteria for a lap band as my BMI is barely over 35 and high cholestrol and breast cancer and back and knee pain and depression and sleep problems and failing over and over again for the past 40+ years to take the weight off and keep it off are not enough for insurance to cover me. He told me "just eat a little less and exercise a little more. You can do it" I will NOT go back to him again. However I did get a referral from him to see a lap band surgeon (the only one) in the system (albeit 70 miles away!) so I guess I will talk to them and take it from there. I am hoping and praying for help. I really believe in my heart of hearts that lap band is key to my health. I have run out of other options. Thank you for listening. Joy p.s. I have been reading here for several weeks now and have no doubt this is the answer I am searching for. For those of you who pray, please pray for a miracle for me. Thank you.

    Think I Messed Up...

It's funny how advice varies so much. My doctors had us on real food within a week (soft) and regular food after 3 weeks.

    I'm so disgusted with myself

There's still time to change! We all have slipped up in one way or another at some point on our journey. Just try and remember how much time & effort you have put into this thus far. You had to have made changes or they wouldn't have allowed the surgery. Of course it dosen't help that the Holidays are here and our famalies are all busy gaining the "Holiday 10" all around us! I reccomend you call your nutritionist on Monday & form a plan for the upcoming weeks. That's what they are there for, they realize there is a gradual need for food and will make sure you are physically post op safe. :cursing:
  13. I had surgery 4/10 and my port flipped. It hurt for weeks after surgery - I don't mean sore, but actually hurt - muscle ripping. I found out on 5/22 (1st fill scheduled) that it flipped. It was corrected this past Friday with outpatient surgery. I was under general anesthesia. It is so much better now - much better than the first time around. I just left my follow-up appointment with my doctor. All is looking well now. You can PM me if you have any questions.

    I'm a loser...and not in a good way

No lecture or harsh words from me. You have alot of stress on you right now, you have gotten excellent advise from the above posters. Don't give up, Fluffy. Take a step back and regroup. Do just one thing for a week, Get all your protein, drink all your water, take your vitamin, eat healthy. It may not all happen at once, but if you change one thing at a time it will happen. Keep the faith, baby, keep the faith. Believe in your band. And 26 pounds down is 26 pounds gone. Bonnie
  15. You don't say how long ago you had the unfill, but maybe it's time for another fill. If you're not feeling restriction, and two weeks have passed since your unfill I'd make an appointment for a fill for sure. You may only need .5cc or 1cc to get you to your sweet spot. Often times a small amount makes a big difference when you get close to your sweet spot. I only needed an extra .5cc at my last fill in August to get me from okay restriction to great restriction. I'm glad you're going to start taking time for yourself, you deserve it.

    Hunger growls

6 weeks, you're eating regular food, are you taking a PPI? It could be acid causing you to feel hungry or dehydration. Or that dreaded thing called head hunger. Eat some Protein or have a Protein shake to see if it goes away. If it doesn't than it's most likely not true hunger. My stomach sounds like fireworks sometimes but I know it's not hungry. It's been loud enough to startle my dog lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  19. I'm six weeks out and for the past 3 days I have been having a constant hunger with the feeling in my stomach and making growling noise .could it be cause it's right before my period and my hormones just making me feel so hungry.

    Hi Everyone

I didn't eat popcorn or rice until I hit maintenance at 20 months out. I still don't eat much of either. Neither are very nutritious and take up precious space in your stomach. I ate two tablespoons of ice cream on my birthday three months after surgery. I can handle it, but it's not the best choice. A lot of people (at least people who've had RNY) dump on ice cream, so if you do decide to indulge, be careful with it. I would be careful with getting back into eating unhealthy foods in general - it's a slippery slope. A lot of people never make goal or end up regaining their weight by letting bad habits slip back in....

    hypocondriac!

I appreciate so much all of your replies, although, Leo, I didn't get the yahoo thing, sorry. My doctor called just before I connected this morn to check for replies and said basically not to worry. Then I read your replies, and I am even less worried now.... cannot promise I won't freak again tho. This is so foreign, so strange, and I have been having doubts the whole week.... wondering if I did the right thing, if I could have tried harder with less dramatic methods, like 25 years of trying wasn't enough proof that i cant do it, not long term anyway (I'm only counting from my first weight watchers experience at 8). Anyway, thank you all so much! I like this place Tellie
  22. I finally have another fill appointment this week and I am just not looking forward to it. I hope to actually get the fill, because even though I can go for quite awhile without eating sometimes, I'm hoping for more restriction. I only have about 3cc's in my 10cc band. ...but, I also don't like feeling uncomfortable like I do after a fill. Last time the PA had a little trouble with finding the spot on the port to inject the saline. I'd really like more restriction, because it has been a struggle the last couple of months. I'd like my weight loss to start coming off a little faster again. Yes, I do exercise everday for about 45 minutes, with the exception of the weekend, when I usually do just a lot of squats, stretches, arm weights & some walking. I think I need a little encouragment to make sure I stick with making the best food choices I can.

    8 weeks 264 lbs

    From the album: My Transformation

  24. Be very careful about eating solid foods this soon unless your surgeon says it's okay. Part of the first six weeks or so after surgery is to allow your body time to heal up. Your band was stitched in place on your stomach wall. Those stitches need time to heal up. If you eat solids before you should, you run the risk of affecting the healing of those stitches. Just because you didn't feel anything doesn't mean it's okay to eat improperly. As to your two pounds loss, that's good to have (as is any weight loss), but it's normal to lose a fair amount in the few weeks right after surgery. Your body is getting rid of fluids taken in during the surgery, and your system is adjusting to how you're eating now. So a certain amount is weight lost is normal, and you should see even more weight coming off over the next few weeks. But again, the focus should be on healing up. Take things slow and take it easy on yourself. The weight WILL come off, but you need to adapt to the stages of recovery. Developing patience is the hardest part of this. Good luck with things. Dave

    Scared Silly in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

If you scroll through this site, you will find a Saskatchewan support group in Saskatoon. Also, Dr. Ortiz can be found recommended by many Canadians. For instance, try the Vancouver headings. What you have to is is research not only the doctor and clinic, but what aftercare you get. Aftercare is vital, because you are dealing with fills/defills, band erosion, band slippage, etc. Some clinics give free fills and defills indefinately, some for one year, some for three years, some clinics will replace the band free of charge and other charge. Can you now or in the future afford to fly to your chosen clinic to have any problems sorted out? These are a few aftercare questions. Everyone supports their clinic/doctor as the best, but you have to decide what is the best for you. But I think you can be assured Dr. Ortiz is reputable.
