Hi... I live in Medford... I went to Penn Hosp with Dr Kirkland. He is a great doc! I would refer anyone to him. He listens to you. As I have read in here some docs are making people wait for their 1st adjustment. Dr. Kirkland wants you to be sucsessful & does not want you to have the hungry feeling at all. So me having my surgery on 10/5 he is ajusting me on 11/5, then again before Christmas. I feel like I need an adjustment as I am starting to get hungry. Good luck in your search. Check out Dr Kirkland. Google him and you will see he is a great doctor.

The first four days my stomach my back chest hurt till I learn to sip and paste self.. I have to color to keep myself buzy to do this right. Don't let anyone say this is the easy way out. How many fills to your sweet spot
slimgirl replied to Eeyore's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had my first fill on July 21st, so now I'm getting another fill for August 21st because I'm starting to get hungry before meals, and in the morning I am really wanting breakfast, it's so not like right after the surgery where I was tight and not wanting to eat in the morning. Now my first fill was 2.cc in a 10.cc band. So I am definately telling them to juice me up this go around. -
I got my band on Feb 19 and it gurgles at me too. If I drink a little too much or to big of a gulp I will get "feedback." It sometimes gurgles to say "FEED ME!" if I have gone more than 3 hours between meals. I giggle to myself when I hear it.

OMG...16 page psych test!
mandyb replied to happygirl65's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think many people have to go through the "MENTAL TEST" before anything else is decided. I had a 10 page questionaire to fill out before my initial intake visit. They emailed it to me and when I went to print OMG 10 pages. It was all about my family history, my history, when i became over weight, diets I have tried, suppliments I used, reason for being overweight, my religious views, my work status, maritial status, if my spouse is alright with my choice of WLS... Then to have to be evaluated by the psychologist!!!! I am diagnosed already with anxiety and depression...I don't need them to tell me that! Anyways, They really have to do that because some people are SERIOUSLY addicted to food. I had a friend of mine, her brother had the band done, and has completely lost his mind (because he couldn't turn to food). He turned to alcohol and drugs...lost his license and (WAS) a local fire fighter...Needless to say not anymore...but these surgeries are LIFE CHANGING!!!! Remember that! If you are not mentally stable enough then honestly, you shouldn't have surgery! Good luck on your journey!!! -

Stacy160 replied to Koolkatva's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My work is moderately physical, and at 10 days I went back for two 6-hour shifts on Thursday and Friday with no problem, then back to my regular full-time schedule the next week. What type of work do you do? -

I stopped about 10 months out. I still get reflux sometimes but I follow certain rules for myself: No eating or drinking 1-2 hours before bed. No laying down after eating/drinking Don't over eat so that acid bubbles up in your throat. -

Telling people Im having weight loss surgery.
jinvegas replied to karinbuck's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have only told my immediate family and they have been very supportive. I haven't told friends or extended family because, and I'm assuming, that they will feel I took the easy way out. Now, I know it is not the easy way out by any means. Every time I am reassured that it isn't the easy way out I start getting teary-eyed. I chose not to tell all the people in my life because I feel that I need to focus on my journey more than what people think about what I'm doing with my life. I'm 10 days post op and have lost 18lbs since the day of surgery. The first week was super hard, mostly because I was an emotional wreck. Today I feel a million times better and love love love seeing the weight melt off. I have a neck people!!!!! I'm excited every time it can see it! But anyways, that's me!! -
I got a letter in the mail from the insurance company saying they were denying me because my bmi is only 36. I'm going to talk to the office tomorrow and if they have had people get approved by gaining 10# I may do it. But I don't want to have to stay there. I'm not willing to stay at that weight for an extended period of time though. I mean I'll gain a few pounds and then drink a ton of water night before going in. But I'll have to see if that would get me approved

I don't feel my anxiety is a problem, I was diagnosed with it over 10 years ago for the first time, I take daily anti-psych medication, and have my own (medication-free...no-benzodiazepines) coping mechanisms that work for me.

I find it really difficult chewing with my dentures. This was an issue before, now it's ×10. I don't want to blend everything. Anyone with uppers have this issue? If so do you have any suggestions?

Looking to go from sleeve to either bypass or DS
RickM replied to Megxelizabeth91's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
For treating a regain problem, I prefer the DS as it is stronger metabolically than either the VSG or RNY - the RNY is too close to the VSG in strength to reliably offer a significant improvement in weight loss, from what I have seen over the years. Figure maybe 20lb loss on average - about what one would expect from going through all the intense dieting associated with going through surgery again. (There are some who do significantly better, bit it seems to be more a function of their determination to "make this work" or "not screw it up again" than the actual surgery itself. Call it something like a surgical placebo, lol.) By your surgeons not finding the codes for the DS implies that they are talking about the newer SIPS/SADI/"loop DS" which is a single anastomosis adaptation of the traditional BPD/DS (biliopancreatic diversion) which has been routinely covered by US insurance and Medicare for the past 14-15 years, but is a more complex procedure that relatively few bariatric surgeons perform. Some practices that do the SIPS/SADI use the BPD/DS billing codes which is technically insurance fraud, but if they're comfortable doing it, that's their concern. Revising the VSG to a DS, of either flavor, is straightforward as each use the VSG as its basis (some don't even consider it a revision, more a "completion" of the ultimate configuration.) The strong point of the BPD/DS is its regain resistance - regain is possible as it is with any of these procedures, but it is harder. I know many with the DS who are 10-20 years out (my wife included) who are still maintaining a healthy weight; some are up a bit more and working on losing their "Covid 19" - just like "normal" people but major regains are relatively uncommon. The SIPS/SADI type of DS seems to fall somewhere in between the VSG/RNY and the BPD/DS - I have seen a few in the various forums who have had it and seem to be doing well with it, but it doesn't have as long a history. Any of these procedures - the RNY, DS or SIPS - will be somewhat fussier and less care-free than your VSG when it comes to supplements and follow up; the RNY is maybe a bit less so, but one can get into some serious trouble with any of them if one slacks off. If keeping up with supplements and annual labs is not an issue with you, then any of them should be fine. -
nearly 10weeks postop and loving life!
celina11 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have finally reached my first mini goal of getting out of the 200s and into the 100s. I am 5'8, 22 years old. Starting weight was 235 and today I weigh 197!!!! I'm very excited to finally be back in the 100s! My bra size has gone down from a 40D to a 38C. Pant size from a 14-16 to a 10! Overall I am loving my sleeve! I have been lucky to not have any complications or pain. I am able to eat normally and nothing really irritates or upsets my stomach. I'm not sure if at 10 weeks and having lost 38lbs is a good pace or not...how is everyone else? -
B or C I guess. I'm 1 year out, down 98 lbs. So far, due to work and life in general, exercise hasn't played a factor in the weight loss. I don't eat bread, rice, pasta or have anything to drink but water and sometimes tea. Breakfast is usually Carnation instant breakfast because nothing really wants to go down at 5am. Around 9am I have a banana. Usually lunch is Wendy's chili or lunchmeat and cheese, chicken breast, etc. Dinne is whatever I fix for my family. Last night it was salad, rotissiere chicken and bread sticks. I managed 5 bites of salad and 4 bites of chicken before the lettuce got stuck (typical when i try to eat salad). I never deprive myself from "junk food". We're all food addicts, we're surrounded by food every day and its NOT gonna go away. We have to learn how to have a little and be satisfied. Those that just avoid "the bad stuff" aren't really learning how to work their band in my opinion. No, its not good for us, but I've learned to be content with ONE cookie instead of 8-10. Whatever I want, I eat, whether its good for me or not. What works for one person isn't necessarily going to work for anyone else. Find what works for YOU and stick with it

He had better consult with his surgeon. I have had many of those things and I am a bypasser with a stricture, food can't pass through. This is usually a gastric bypass problem but not all VSG are exempt. And if one variety doesn't work, tastes so bad you can't stand it, there are many others to chose from. The kind that works for me isn't one you commonly hear of. After 10 months of protein shakes one does become a connoisseur, I finally found one that doesn't choke me up, has flavors I can stand and doesn't totally break the bank. And lastly your son may have developed a temporary allergy to some of the milk proteins, there are soy-based, or plant- based, personally I don't like them as well but they are a total God-Send for many. There are always answers to every question, just not always easy to find.

I've heard of the 3 week stall. But I stopped losing weight at 1 week. I lost 10lb during my 1 week pre op diet and 10 lb the week after my surgery. My surgery was 11/30. I haven't lost anything since 12/7. I use a Bariatric app to track all my food/water/vitamins. My calories have gone up over the past 2 weeks (as expected) from around 300 to 600 and my carbs are higher than I would like (around 35 avg), but I'm finding soft foods are limited. I am not meeting my water goals of 64 oz. I'm getting about 30 oz. If I do too much moving around, my incision sites get really sore so I have not started walking but I do a lot house work and go into my office a couple days a week (not just a couch potatoe, like week 1). Anyone else experience this? Sent from my SM-N975U using BariatricPal mobile app

Hi Everyone. I was wondering if anyone had to have another surgery the same year as their WLS? I was sleeved on 3/10/16 and have a torn meniscus in my left knee that will require surgery? Just wondering how long I will have to wait? Thank you.

am i the only person who has not lost a ton of weight on the liquid diet? i've been following it to a T, and consuming less than 1000 calories a day, and have only lost 5.8 lbs in my first 10 days. i take synthroid for a thyroid issue and have PCOS, but assumed that with the liquids, i'd be seeing bigger losses. i am so afraid that the surgeon will think i've been cheating, or that my liver will be too large. what gives?

I'm a self pay patient with Dr. Schroder, Dr. Brengman's partner! My surgery date is coming up soon -- 2/19. -
I'm 10 weeks out and have been experiencing this for 2-3 weeks now. The only thing I enjoy consuming is coffee. Getting my Water and Protein in is difficult and I rarely come close to my goals.
